Abstract Motivation Dictionary-based named entity recognition (NER) allows terms to be detected in a corpus and normalized to biomedical databases and ontologies. However, adaptation to different entity types requires new high-quality dictionaries and associated lists of blocked names for each type. The latter are so far created by identifying cases that cause many false positives through manual inspection of individual names, a process that scales poorly. This thesis considers the role that proper names play in British mass market women’s fiction (genre generally known as Chick Lit) by means of an analysis of the way in which those proper names have been translated into Spanish and Italian. The relationship between source text and target text is explored in terms of the procedures employed to translate each proper name. Our main hypothesis is that Toury’s (1995) law of growing standardization would prevail in the translated text in an attempt to bring the connotations and foreign elements of the source language text nearer to the target languag

Jewish anecdotes reflect the changes over the course of history that have occurred in Bohemia and Moravia in the field of personal names of local Jews. Unlike the rest of the population, Jews could not freely choose any given names, as they were restricted by an official list (1788–1867). After a short period of freedom, another list of permitted names was brought by the Nazi regime (1938). Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to introduce the concept of drop unit substitution in address-based samples for mail and web surveys. A drop point is a single US Postal Service (USPS) delivery point or receptacle that services multiple businesses, families, or households (USPS, 2017). Residential drop units are the individual housing units served by the drop point address. For the most part, address-based sampling frames list the number of units at a drop point address but will not contain information identifying specific units. Drop units comprise less than 2 percent of all residential addresses
