Abstract:
Several years ago, when Airbus Industrie launched their twin-engined A 300 Airbus, it became apparent that a new generation of long-range aircraft was about to add a different facet to the shape of international air travel. The enormous power available from the big fan engines coming into use meant that adequate performance was available even when an engine failure meant the loss of half the installed thrust. Coupled to this was a standard of fuel economy and tank capacity which meant that the new aircraft were capable of operating over ranges far in excess of those previously attained by twin-engined aircraft.

Abstract:

ABSTRAKT

Det här är en sammanfattning av den formella delen av vårt projektarbete. Under hösten 2007 och våren 2008 har vi på uppdrag av Egon Nilsson överhalat en hjälpmaskin ombord på Calmare Nyckel. Maskinen var i stort behov av en renovering, det läckte både kylvatten och smörjolja på olika ställen. Det har varit mycket väntetid på reservdelar eftersom maskinen är ovanlig och tillverkas i England. Mot slutet av arbetet råkade vi på bekymmer med vattenläckage i smörjoljan som gjorde att jobbet blev försenat några veckor. Läckaget lagades och maskinen provkördes. Resultatet blev bra, maskinen fungerade och gick som den skulle. Under arbetets gång har vi försökt i möjligaste mån följa de instruktioner som finns i instruktionsboken.

När man genomför ett projektarbete av den här typen, skall all dokumentation rörande projektet redovisas. Materialet som presenteras i den här sammanställningen är upplagt enligt följande. Inledning till ämnet och projektet vilket följs av avsnitten projektprocessen och resultat. Till denna dokumentation har vi bifogat, arbetsdagbok och offert.


ABSTRACT

This is a summary of the formal part of our project. During the autumn of 2007 and spring 2008 we have done an overhaul on one of the auxiliary engines onboard Calmare Nyckel. The assignment was given from Egon Nilson. The engine was in bad shape, lubrication oil and coolingwater was leaking from several cylinders and thereby in big need of a service. There have been some waiting time during the order of new parts because of the rare engine type which are British and therefore all the parts had to be ordered from England. At the end of the project we discovered some difficulties with coolingwater leaking in to the oil sump, this causing further delays finishing the project. The problem were solved and at the test run the engine run satisfactory.

During the project we have as far as possible followed the manual and other instructions available.

During a project like this it is important that all documentation of the project is shown.

The materials that are shown are presented with an introduction followed by the process and the result. To this documentation we have attached a working diary and quotations.

Abstract:
Memory-safe execution of C programs has been well researched but the ability to find memory-safety violations before execution has often been overlooked. One approach for memory-safe C is SoftBoundCETS which infer some memory-accesses as statically safe and others become runtime-checked. One problem with this approach is that it is not obvious to the programmer which checks are runtime-checked and which are inferred as safe. This report analyses the approach taken by SoftBoundCETS by implementing a runtime bounds-checks lister for SoftBoundCETS.The resulting runtime bounds-checks-listing program that can track 99% of the inlined runtime bounds-checks to user program source code lines in programs compiled with -O3 and link-time-optimisation. Analysing SoftBoundCETS with this tool reveals SoftBoundCETS can eliminate about 35% of the memory loads and stores as statically safe in Coreutils 8.27.
Mycket forskning har utförts om minnessäker exekvering av C-program men förmågan att hitta minnessäkerhetsöverträdelser har ofta förbisetts. En approach för minnessäker C är Softbound-Cets som härleder vissa minnesaccesser som statiskt säkra och andra blir kontrollerade vid körtid. Ett problem med denna approach är att det inte är uppenbart för programmeraren vilka kontroller som utförs vid körtid och vilka som härleds som säkra. Denna rapport analyserar Softbound-Cets approach genom att implementera ett program som listar fältaccesser för Softbound-Cets. Det färdiga programmet som listar fältaccesser vid körtid kan spåra 99% av inline-expanderade accesskontroller vid körtid till kodrader i användarprogram kompilerade med -O3 och länktidsoptimering. Analysen av Softbound-Cets med detta verktyg avslöjar att Softbound-Cets kan eliminera runt 35% av minnesaccesserna som statiskt säkra bland programmeni Coreutils 8.27.

This thesis examines the day to day practices that constituted Anne Lister's (1791-1840) sexuality and sociability within the range of her writings, as well as her society. Anne's writings were a detailed account, spanning her lifetime, of her own love and relationships with the 'fairer sex' (Whitbread 1988, 145). Anne's sociality, seen in her correspondence and plain handwritten journal entries, has been explored by Muriel Green in Miss Lister of Shibden Hall and Jill Liddington in Female Fortune and Nature's Domain (Green 1992; Liddington 1998; 2003). As a gentlewoman of adequate means, Anne has garnered some attention from women's historians interested in her agency within an early nineteenth century social and historical context. Anne's sexual identity has been extensively analysed over the past nearly twenty years by lesbian feminists, queer theorists, women's historians and historians of sexuality concerned with the history and development of modern Western female homosexuality and gender. The source for theorising Anne's sexuality has been the edited selections of the crypted journal entries, published by Helena Whitbread in I Know My Own Heart and No Priest but Love (Whitbread 1988; 1992). However, many analyses deal either with the theorisation of Anne's sexuality or her sociality; the theoretical difficulty with reconciling these categories has troubled the analysis of her complex subjectivity. Drawing upon the archival materials, I have used an interdisciplinary feminist approach to analyse the sexual and social processes of Anne's everyday interactions in her writings. Taking the seven month period of the sojourn to Paris in 1824-25, I have focused upon Anne's textual practices within her journal volume and letters during her residence in Paris, her social practices with the other guests at the guesthouse 24 Place Vendome and her sexual practices with her lover, the widow Mrs. Maria Barlow. The journal volumes and correspondence are a valuable historical record of one gentlewoman's engagement with early nineteenth century British culture.

Abstract:
Jusqu'en 1980, date à laquelle la variole a été déclarée éradiquée suite à la pratique de la vaccination, elle a constitué un véritable fléau pour l'humanité. Le risque de réémergence du virus de la variole dans un contexte bioterroriste, compte-tenu des conditions de production, de la faible immunité de la population et des complications post-vaccinales liées aux vaccins historiques, rend le développement de nouveaux vaccins antivarioliques nécessaire.
L'objectif du travail de thèse présenté dans ce mémoire est l'étude du vaccin antivariolique historique Lister dans un cadre de stratégie d'élaboration d'un nouveau vaccin issu de cette souche.
La séquence génomique de ce vaccin est déterminée et décrite. Sa comparaison avec d'autres souches de virus de la vaccine met en évidence les singularités de la souche Lister.
Par ailleurs, l'étude de la diversité de la population virale et sa caractérisation phénotypique et génétique devraient permettre d'éclairer le choix de la stratégie pour développer un nouveau vaccin dit de deuxième génération issu de cette souche : vaccin constitué d'un seul clone viral ou vaccin polyclonal.
Enfin, l'étude de l'interaction du virus de la vaccine avec la barrière hémato-encéphalique montre une augmentation de sa perméabilité suite à l'infection des cellules endothéliales par le virus de la vaccine. De plus, des études in vivo mettent en évidence l'entrée et la réplication du virus dans le tissu cérébral, entraînant des atteintes cérébrales parfois mortelles. Ces perspectives permettent d'appréhender la neuropathogénicité du vaccin historique reliée aux encéphalites post-vaccinales, complications létales de la vaccination antivariolique.

Abstract:
Anne Lister (1791-1840), a provincial gentlewoman of Shibden Hall, near Halifax in the West Riding of Yorkshire, produced between 1806 and her death a four-million-word diary documenting her daily life, intimate thoughts, ambitions, sexual and emotional adventures with women and her musings on the nature of her sexuality. About a sixth is written in cipher. Lister scholarship so far has focused mainly on the social and cultural implications of her writings. This thesis, however, examines the diary as a literary text and considers Lister's deployment of literary forms and structures, strategies and conventions in producing a sense of self. It explores her relationship to contemporary ideas of authorship and to notions of public and private, and investigates the impact of reading in the autobiographical writing of Lister and her circle and the significance of the cipher in her social and sexual self-representation. It asks whether her literary production helped accommodate her self-representation as a traditional country gentlewoman with her unconventional sexuality. The linking theme throughout the thesis, bringing together the many different aspects of Lister's self-fashioning, is the significance of literary considerations in her diary and letters. It begins the work of investigating the literary structures and strategies of her writings, and offers a fresh perspective on this remarkable work of literary self-construction.

Abstract:
The premise of this project was to engineer a novel viral platform with the capacity to enhance antitumour immunity. To this effect, the N1L gene was disrupted in a Lister strain vaccinia viral backbone that had previously been engineered to be tumour selective (VVL15ΔN1L) and armed with transgenes encoding murine and human versions of GMCSF and IL12. In vitro, they retained potency for infecting, replicating in and killing a panel of murine, Syrian hamster and human cancer cells; all viruses were able to express their transgenes to detectable levels upon infection of every tumour cell line. In comparison to the parental virus (VVL15), VVL15ΔN1L administration into immune competent in vivo tumour models (of pancreatic and lung cancer) led to enhanced intratumour (IT) infiltration of neutrophils as well as markedly elevated circulating numbers of natural killer (NK) cells. VVL15ΔN1L also enhanced the tumour infiltration of CD8+ cells. Functional immunoassays and flow cytometric analysis of T cells provided evidence of enhanced tumour specific adaptive immunity. In comparison to VVL15, IT VVL15ΔN1L significantly reduced the growth of subcutaneously implanted syngeneic pancreatic tumours. This effect was predominantly due to cytotoxic lymphocytes, evidenced by the complete abrogation of efficacy upon repeating the experiment in mice that had been depleted of CD8+ cells. A similar treatment schedule reduced the formation of lung metastases from a primary spontaneously metastasising syngeneic lung cancer model; and translated into prolonged short-term post-operative survival when used as neoadjuvant to surgical resection. Efficacy in this context was contrastingly, due to an elevation in systemic NK cells; concurrent depletion of NK cells (but not CD4+ or CD8+ cells) completely abrogated the survival advantage. The IL12 transgene armed recombinant was the most effective antitumour therapeutic. Its IT administration into pancreatic tumours led to complete tumour eradication in over 80% of tumour bearing mice and was effective in slowing the growth of other aggressive flank tumours. Neoadjuvant administration of VVL15ΔN1L-mIL12 into metastatic lung cancers dramatically prolonged long-term post-surgical survival, with apparent cure of 88% of mice.

Abstract:
Experimental investigations on the knock rating of gaseous fuels were carried out on a single cylinder SI engine of Lister-Petter make. The Service Methane Number (SMN) of different gas compositions is measured and then compared to the standard Methane Number (MN), calculated by the AVL software. Effects of engine parameters, by mean of the Methane Number Requirement (MNR) are also highlighted. A linear correlation, between the SMN and the MN, has been obtained with a maximum absolute deviation lower than 2 MN units. A prediction correlation giving the MNR from engine parameters has finally been deduced from experimental data with a good accuracy (mean absolute deviation of 0.5 MNR unit).

Esta proposta considera o colofão como uma estrutura conceitual para pensar listas e listar dentro de nossa(s) prática(s) criativa(s). Convencionalmente, o colofão é um pequeno trecho de texto que detalha informações sobre a realização de uma publicação ou seu uso pretendido. Na maioria das vezes, o colofão especifica “como, onde e quando”: os tipos de letra e de papel; o local, data, número da edição e método de impressão. Também pode colocar em primeiro plano os aspectos relacionais da publicação — o “com quem” ou o “porque aqui”. Os colofões aparecem na abertura ou no fechamento de publicações, e as informações deles podem formar uma espécie de lastro para o que os precede ou os sucede. Ou seja, a listagem do trabalho material, processual e relacional que foi necessário para fazer as publicações é reconhecida como uma necessidade estrutural. Como essa concepção de colofão é útil para pensar sobre os outros tipos de listas e listagens que fazem parte de nossas práticas? Folhas de execução; listas de materiais; conteúdos; listas de títulos; índices; legendas; glossários; registros; manifestos; cronologias. Estes tipos de “listagem” comunicam contextos relevantes e importantes e, desta forma, tornam-se uma parte conceitual dos próprios trabalhos criativos. Estes formatos também são práticas citacionais onde os materiais, processos, informações e relações são compartilhados livremente — como qualquer exto escrito estaria na lista de referência de uma publicação. Em seu livro, “The Hundreds” (2019), as teóricas culturais Lauren Berlant e Kathleen Stewart listam textos de Adorno e Agamben ao lado de “uma máquina de cozinhar ovos” e “alguns amores-perfeitos presos em uma caixa de janela” na seção de referência, todos em ordem alfabética, sob o título “Algumas coisas com as quais pensamos”. Esse tipo de lista (e o próprio conceito de colofão) não é uma divisão indiscriminada em partes separadas, mas um destaque estratégico das condições e abstrações da obra de arte. Como surgiu a coisa (lista) que vocês tinham antes de se unirem, e como você poderia “fazer” também? Como você pode fazer escolhas diferentes e quais seriam essas escolhas? O colofão, como estrutura, existe não apenas para reconhecer o que contribui para uma publicação, mas também para rastrear possíveis pontos de desvio da convenção. Como uma tática dentro da prática criativa, o colofão é como uma abstração conceitual; ele contém todas as partes constituintes que compõem um projeto em um só lugar. O “com” que Berlant e Stewart exploram é a chave para o “como, onde e quando” das relações que o ato de listar reúne. Este artigo irá compartilhar três perspectivas sobre a listagem como uma tática sincronizada com a ação funcional de um colofão. Onde palavras e imagens podem girar, torcer, desviar, inclinar-se e acenar com a cabeça, e a forma conceitual de um projeto toma forma “com” as coisas.

Abstract:
Increasing the in-cylinder oxygen availability of diesel engines is an effective method to improve combustion efficiency and to reduce particulate emissions. Past work on oxygen-enrichment of the intake air, revealed a large decrease of ignition delay, a remarkable decrease of soot emissions as well as reduction of CO and unburned hydrocarbon (HC) emissions while, brake specific fuel consumption (bsfc) remained unaffected or even improved. Moreover, experiments conducted in the past by authors revealed that oxygen-enrichment of the intake air (from 21% to 25% oxygen mole fraction) under high fuelling rates resulted to an increase of brake power output by 10%. However, a considerable increase of NOx emissions was recorded. This manuscript, presents the results of a theoretical investigation that examines the effect of oxygen enrichment of intake air, up to 30%v/v, on the local combustion characteristics, soot and NO concentrations under the following two in-cylinder mixing conditions: (1) lean in-cylinder average fuel/oxygen equivalence ratio (constant fuelling rate) and (2) constant in-cylinder average fuel/oxygen equivalence ratio (increased fuelling rate). A phenomenological engine simulation model is used to shed light into the influence of the oxygen content of combustion air on the distribution of combustion parameters, soot and nitric oxide inside the fuel jet, in all cases considered. Simulations were made for a naturally aspirated single-cylinder DI diesel engine “Lister LV1” at 2500 rpm and at various engine loads. The outcome of this theoretical investigation was contrasted with published experimental findings.

A multi-zone combustion model is used in the present study to examine the effect of increased in-cylinder oxygen availability (either by using oxygenated fuels or by increasing the oxygen percentage of intake air) on direct injection (DI) diesel engine performance characteristics and pollutant emissions. Simulations are produced for a single-cylinder DI diesel engine (“Lister LV1”) by keeping constant the oxygen content of in-cylinder fuel/air mixture and the engine brake torque. The effects of the two oxygen-enhancement techniques on combustion characteristics, soot and NO concentrations inside the combustion chamber are examined using model predictions for a common diesel oil, a neat oxygenate and the case of increasing the oxygen fraction of intake air. The multi-zone model is also utilized to interpret the relative impact of fuel-side and air-side oxygen on soot formation mechanism by examining the temporal evolution of combustion characteristics and soot formation and oxidation rates inside the fuel jet zones. Evaluation of the theoretical results revealed that the increase of in-cylinder oxygen availability by both techniques resulted in earlier initiation of combustion, increase of peak cylinder pressure and increase of in-cylinder and exhaust NO concentrations. It resulted also in reduction of exhaust gas temperature and exhaust soot values. Fuel oxygen addition was proven to be more influential on combustion process and consequently, on soot and NO formation mechanism compared to oxygen-enhancement of intake air. This is attributed to the higher oxygen availability inside each fuel jet zone, which is observed in the case of oxygenated fuel combustion.

In a recent study, Moldovan et al [1] have demonstrated that in the presence of 11.3 mol% dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) a pore can nucleate and grow spontaneously in a lipid bilayer even in the absence of an externally applied stresses or electric field. The authors rationalized the spontaneous pore nucleation, in the absence of any external driving force, by considering the combined effect of the entropy of pore shape fluctuation and the significant decrease of the bilayer line tension in the presence of DMSO. Building on the classical nucleation theory developed three decades ago by Lister [2] the authors propose a new formulation for the bilayer free energy that incorporates the pore shape configurational entropy. According to this study, in the presence of DMSO, the pore nucleates spontaneously and grows provided the bilayer line tension decreases below a threshold value, λ. In this study we report our recent simulation results on the effect of DMSO concentration on both bilayer line tension and bilayer structural stability with respect to pore nucleation. The lipid bilayer systems investigated in this study by molecular dynamics (MD) consists of 96 molecules (48 in each leaflet) of dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC) immersed in DMSO-water solutions at various concentrations. In all MD simulations reported the bilayer systems were followed over 100 ns. Our simulations results indicate the existence of a critical DMSO concentration below which there are no pores nucleated in the lipid bilayers. Our findings corroborate and complement the entropy-based pore nucleation model proposed earlier by Moldovan et al. [1].

Mnoštvo je pitanja koje se u stručnoj javnosti preferiraju kao bitna i opredjeljujuća kada je riječ o reformi izbornog zakonodavstva Bosne i Hercegovine. Nedvojbeno jako je bitno i pitanje vanrednih ili prijevremenih izbora, kao i ograničavanja fenomena preletača ili implementacija presuda međunarodnih sudova, i mnogo drugih, u najmanju ruku problematičnih izbornih instituta. Ali, ono što bi trebalo da je srž suštinskih promjena u sferi izbornog zakonodavstva je institut uvođenja otvorenih lista, i nadogradnje instituta preferencijalnog glasanja. Individualne ili otvorene liste omogućavaju jednom kandidatu da se kandiduje za razliku od trenutnih rješenja gdje je definisano da se vijećnici i poslanici biraju sa lista partija, koalicija ili grupe građana, pri čemu se glasa kolektivno za listu, a ne pojedinca na njoj. Individualne kandidature su nešto što je nesporno i to je pravo birača da shodno svom izbornom postignuću i kapacitetu igra značajniju ulogu u parlamentarnom i političkom ambijentu države i društva. Otvorene liste i preferencijalno glasanja bi državnost i konstitutivnost Bosne i Hercegovine, kao složene države, podigle na viši kvalitativni i stabilniji nivo održivosti. Uz svo uvažavanje ustavne konstitutivnosti naroda, iste bi urušile partijsku državu, povećale odgovornost izabranih dužnosnika i omogućile veći stepen neposredne demokratije.

Introdução: Cocos nucifera L., é considerada uma das frutíferas mais difundidas mundialmente. A importância socio-econômica do coqueiro deve-se à produção de diversos produtos e sub-produtos oriundos de diferentes partes da planta, principalmente, do fruto, utilizado nas agroindústrias e in natura como alimento para a população. As doenças do coqueiro são fatores limitantes no desenvolvimento desta cultura, afetando de forma direta e negativa a produção dos frutos e, consequentemente, trazendo prejuízos significativos para os produtores. O registro acerca do potencial antagônico direto para espécies de myxomycetes é extremamente limitado, sendo ainda mais restrito o conhecimento deste potencial para o bio-controle de fungos fitopatogênicos de interesse agronômico. Objetivos: Com o intuito de contribuir para o desenvolvimento do conhecimento científico acerca do bio-controle de fungos fitoaptogênicos e o potencial biocontrolador dos mixomicetos, o plasmódio de Diderma chondrioderma (de Bary & Rostaf) G. Lister foi testado in vitro como antagonista de ascomiceto patógeno a plantas de interesse econômico. Materiais e métodos: A espécie de fungo foi isolada de folhas sintomáticas de Cocos nucifera L., identificada como Neopestalotiopsis foedans (Sacc. & Ellis) Maharachch. (Amphisphaeriales, Ascomycota) com base em caracteres morfológicos e análise filogenética (ITS, β-tubulina e TEF) e testada a sua patogenicidade, a qual foi confirmada para o hospedeiro. Resultados: Após a primeira semana de observação, registrou-se o crescimento considerável da colônia do fungo inoculado e a migração do plasmódio na direção do micélio, em todas as placas testes. No início da segunda semana foi evidenciada, em todas as culturas, atividade predatória exercida pelo plasmódio contra o fungo. Observou-se a sobreposição do micélio pelo plasmódio e excreção de material fagocitado, na medida em que o mesmo avançava pela colônia. Os conídios foram fagocitados, juntamente com o micélio e facilmente vistos no fluxo do conteúdo citoplasmático do plasmódio, impedindo a esporulação do fungo. Após a cobertura total dos micélios e conídios pelos plasmódios, as colônias se tornaram inviáveis e não apresentaram crescimento quando inoculadas em BDA. Conclusão: Este estudo apresenta o primeiro registro de atividade antagônica para a espécie D. chondrioderma além do primeiro relato de bio-controle acerca da espécie N. foedans, patógena a C. nucifera.
