Abstract:
The Laser-Induced Thermal Emission (LITE) spectra of several solid samples were measured and compared with the usual thermal emission spectra generated by the heating element. The following advantages in LITE spectroscopy were made clear: (1) the spectral background is reduced; (2) the time required for the stabilization of the thermal emission signal is short; (3) the compounds which are coated on background materials with complex shapes can be measured.

Abstract:
In this issue of Blood, results from the Longitudinal Investigation of Thromboembolism (LITE)1 show that, of the coagulant factors IX through XIII, only elevated levels of procoagulant factor XI were associated with a first venous thrombosis. LITE is the first prospective cohort study reporting on all these factors. Factor IX initially appeared to be associated with thrombosis but, after adjustment for primarily body mass index, the association disappeared.

Abstract:
Twenty-four market samples of cottage cheese had an average sodium concentration of 4.91 ± 1.20 mg/g. Two samples of cottage cheese formulated to contain 1.1% “Lite” and Zyest, and having sodium concentrations of 3.23 and 2.54 mg/g had significantly lower flavor scores than a sample containing 1.4% NaCl and having 6.25 mg of Na/g. The Standard Plate Counts and the yeast and mold counts on the cottage cheese after storing 10 d at 4°C were not different between samples containing salt, salt substitute or salt substitute plus a dry yeast preparation. Psychrotrophic bacteria were more numerous in

Abstract:
The recently introduced series of description logics under the common moniker `DL-Lite' has attracted attention of the description logic and semantic web communities due to the low computational complexity of inference, on the one hand, and the ability to represent conceptual modeling formalisms, on the other. The main aim of this article is to carry out a thorough and systematic investigation of inference in extensions of the original DL-Lite logics along five axes: by (i) adding the Boolean connectives and (ii) number restrictions to concept constructs, (iii) allowing role hierarchies, (iv)

Abstract:
ACS-Lite is being developed by FHWA to be a cost-effective solution for applying adaptive control system (ACS) technology to current, state-of-the-practice closed-loop traffic signal control systems. This effort is intended to make ACS technology accessible to many jurisdictions without the upgrade and maintenance costs required to implement ACS systems that provide optimized signal timings on a second-by-second basis. The ACS-Lite system includes three major algorithmic components: a time-of-day (TOD) tuner, a run-time refiner, and a transition manager. The TOD tuner maintains plan parameters

Abstract MetaMap is a widely used named entity recognition tool that identifies concepts from the Unified Medical Language System Metathesaurus in text. This study presents MetaMap Lite, an implementation of some of the basic MetaMap functions in Java. On several collections of biomedical literature and clinical text, MetaMap Lite demonstrated real-time speed and precision, recall, and F1 scores comparable to or exceeding those of MetaMap and other popular biomedical text processing tools, clinical Text Analysis and Knowledge Extraction System (cTAKES) and DNorm.

Finite automata and various extensions of them, such as transducers, are used in areas as diverse as compilers, spelling checking, natural language grammar checking, communication protocol design, digital circuit simulation, digital flight control, speech recognition and synthesis, genetic sequencing, and Java program verification. Unfortunately, as the number of applications has grown, so has the variety of implementations and implementation techniques. Typically, programmers will be confused enough to resort to their text books for the most elementary algorithms. Recently, advances have been
