Abstract:
We present the history of the emergence and development of literary onomastics, the relevance of which is currently not in doubt due to the involvement of its data for the analysis of the artistic world of different authors as linguists and literary critics. The aim of the study is to acquaint readers with those works in which reflections on the function of the proper noun in fiction can be considered as prerequisites for the emergence of onomastics. An important role in the development of science about the proper noun not only scientists, but also critics, writers and journalists, for example, V.G. Belinsky, N.S. Leskov, O.I. Senkovsky. Despite the initial interest of researchers to the etymological meaning of a literary name, in onomastic works middle of 20th century lighting find such problems, as reflected in the anthroponyms of the essential characteristics of the literary character, stylistic conformity onomastic units, social conditionality of name, etc. We point out the primary importance in the problems development of the new branch of linguistics for the 1950s of the works of such scientists as V.N. Mikhailov, R.P. Shaginyan, E.P. Magazanik, D.S. Likhachev. In conclusion we note the modern Voronezh onomastic school research specificity, founded by G.F. Kovalev, the successor of the already classical traditions of Russian onomastics.

Abstract:
Abstract The purpose of the Onomasticon Thracicum project is to realize a repertory of all the Thracian personal names, supplanting the outdated book of D. Detschew (1957). The gathering and the critical examination of these native names in literary sources, inscriptions (epitaphs, dedications, lists, graffiti, military diplomas), papyri and coins will provide a new research tool, rich of about 1400 different names. A large number of Thracian names is documented elsewhere in the Greek (especial Hellenistic) and Roman world, principally because the utilization of the Thracians as soldiers by the Hellenistic kings, thereafter in all the units of the Roman army. This aspect is extremely important for the constitution of their onomastic repertory, completing the more or less plentiful data from the Thracian space. Recently, more new data about Thracian onomastics are available, improving our knowledge, especially for some regions or, very important, for the feminine names. OnomThrac will pay more attention to the study of this peculiar onomastics in its geographical and chronological context. At least four distinct onomastic territories are now obvious for the Thracian complex: Thracian names; Daco-Moesian names; western Thracian names; Bithynian names. More indexes (as a reverse index; or the Genitive forms), as well as a general bibliography, will accompany the repertory.

Onomastic units mean a special number. This field is one of the focus areas of research in modern Azerbaijani linguistics. Special attention is paid to the development of onomastic units in the literary language of our great poet S.Vurgun, who played an exceptional role in the enrichment of the Azerbaijani language. Each of the onomastic units was skillfully used in the work of S.Vurgun. Research shows that our artists used the appellation of words when naming images. This is clearly reflected in the literary language of S.Vurgun. In S.Vurgun's poem, the names are arranged according to the descriptive situation of the event. Abstract:
The article reviews the volume Onomastics between Sacred and Profane (ed. by O. Felecan, 2019), highlighting its contribution to the field of onomastic research as well as to multidisciplinary spheres of knowledge dealing with the concepts of the sacred and the profane. The review follows the structural principles of the volume, summarizing the main findings presented in 26 chapters within five thematic sections: onomastic theory and divine names; toponymy; anthroponymy; ergonymy; literary onomastics and wordplay. In relation to sacredness, the essays cover such issues as genuinely sacred names (divine names) and secular names with motivational and functional exponents of sacredness. Most articles dealing with the concept of the profane, either explicitly or implicitly, confirm the modern tendencies of secularization/desacralization of the sacred and (pseudo-)sacralization of the secular, particularly in Western cultures or cultures, affected by westernization. These tendencies become evident in a number of onomastic practices as exponents of socio-cultural interaction (breaking onomastic taboos, renaming due to ideological reasons, naming secular things after sacred objects for manipulating purposes, etc.). The review is concluded with recommendatory remarks to continue this project and extend its representativeness by drawing data from other geographic regions and national cultures.

Abstract:
The article examines the problem of studying the semantics of linguistic units in fiction, in particular, the study of how proper names function in a literary text. In this study, proper names are treated as functional and semantic units of language, speech, and culture. The re-search material is the story by B. K. Zaitsev ‘Priest Kronid’ (1905), and its object is onomas-tic vocabulary and specific constants of Russian Orthodox Christianity. The onomasticon of the story consists of anthroponyms (Kronid, etc.), toponyms (Kostenka, Dmitrovo), hagionyms (Christ, God), eortonyms (Easter, Trinity, Egor’s day, etc.), zoonym (Kashtan), etc. The purpose of the article is to examine how proper names function in B. K. Zaitsev’s text. The study makes a new contribution to as of yet insufficient research of the onomastic space of fiction by B. K. Zaitsev, and its relevance is enhanced by the importance of studying proper names as a component of the writer’s linguistic picture of the world and the need for scientific understanding of the functional role of onomastic units in the literary text in terms of national religious ideas about the world. The paper uses a complex method of studying proper names in fiction, combining various methods and techniques, namely: the method of conceptual analysis, the method of component analysis of fictional text, the method of continuous sampling as well as the semantic and stylistic methods. The author investigates the onomastic field of B. K. Zaitsev’s text and determines the functional role of proper names of different categories. The story reveals associative and semantic connections of individual onyms with certain constants of Russian Orthodox Christianity. The author also makes a number of specific conclusions about the features of B. K. Zaitsev’s poetics, including those about conceptualizing meanings of individual linguistic units and strengthening of the value component in their meaning in the literary text. The linguistic material can be used in special courses on the onomastics of a literary text or issues related to the writer’s linguistic picture of the world, or in courses that include philological analysis of texts.

Abstract:
Onomastics, medicine and politics in this study are a pragmatic way of depicting the psychosocial condition of Nigeria as an underdeveloped nation. The study explores Femi Osofisan’s The Engagement from a literary onomastic standpoint with the aim of exposing socio-political anomalies in Nigeria. Nigerian leaders commit flaws of egoistical and individualistic interests which often go against the consciences of the led. On this premise, the study explores the characters’ names in The Engagement with a view to gaining insight into Nigeria’s sociocultural and political contexts. Furthermore, Postcolonial Theory and Halliday’s Contextual Theory of Meaning serve as the study’s theoretical constructs. The study is predicated on the underdevelopment of Nigeria which is epitomised as a psychological behaviour of characters in a nation that is under the siege of political anarchy and different social vices.

Abstract:
This article deals with the basic types and functions of adjective constructions “accompanying” proper names in the literary text. This article continues research in the field of poetic onomastics. Stories and short novels by canonical Tatar writers such as A. Yeniki, M. Amir and F. Khusni served as a material for research. The object of study is anthroponyms and their immediate environment (appellatives and their combination with proper names). The novelty and topicality of the research can be attributed to the fact that it is the first attempt to study anthroponyms in particular in combination with different appellative constructions. This, in its turn, allows us to consider anthroponyms as an important structure-forming element of the literary space. The research of the onomastic layer of the literary texts, which we chose, enabled us to draw conclusions about the wide use of dependent words (they are often participles and participial constructions) amid anthroponyms. We make an attempt to reveal the peculiarities of the use and functions of such constructions within the framework of this article. It has turned out that they may contain the most significant, comprehensive information on any character. In addition, these combinations serve as vivid expressive means, reflect specificity of the writer’s artistic and creative thinking.

Todorov’s syntactic, verbal and semantic aspects of the literary text, onomastics and Mauron’s psychocriticism, underlie this paper whose goal is to show that Chinua Achebe’s “Chike’s School Days” is an autrebiography verbalizing Achebe’s early schooling. As two major thematic Ariadne’s threads, the religious, familial and onomastic connections between Chike and Achebe, as well as Achebe’s untimely love for Shakespeare’s language, have been used to compose an autrebiograhical short story, a shortened fiction about the self, which is narrated not in the first-person (“I”), but rather in the third-person (“He”). It is with such a detachment device that Achebe writes about Chike, a character who is nobody else but his double.

Abstract:
Defining the functional nature of English anthroponyms in literary texts for children is complicated philological problems as these language elements perform an essential role in creating the system of images of any literary work. The complex study of anthroponyms functioning in literary texts for children is rather important because it meets the requirements of a new scientific paradigm of literary onomastics. The purpose of the research is to describe a scientific assumption of the phenomenon of literary anthroponymy in general, and that of proper names and literary anthroponyms in particular, and describe their functional peculiarities in literary texts for children. Special attention is paid to anthroponyms and their stylistic expressive abilities, which originate from the time when ancient philosophers regarded proper names in terms of their semantics and purpose of use only. The rapid development of literary onomastics makes it possible to point out different kinds of onyms, anthroponyms, toponyms, and the names of characters in fiction. The key feature of literary anthponyms is their distinguishing stylistic possibilities. It is proved that the functional nature of anthroponyms lies in the fact that they operate in literary texts as vivid markers of the author’s intention, implementing definite ideological, esthetic, and cultural tasks. In a word, they update stylistic features (informative and emotive) at the textual level. Consequently, the wide use of stylistic expressive properties of anthroponyms in literary works led to the need to conceptualize their functional nature in literary texts for children.

Abstract:
The results of the analysis of semantic groups of mythonyms of the poetic heritage of I. A. Bunin as means of explication of various historical-informational and cultural-symbolic worldview meanings are presented in the article. The relevance of the work is due to the interest of literary onomastics in identifying units of the onomastic code of artistic and aesthetic systems of various domestic and foreign writers. The novelty of the work is associated with the inclusion of lexical units with different ratios of the nominated image and denotation into the Bunin mythonymicon, with the synthesis of linguistic and literary-cultural approaches in characterizing each of the selected lexical units. The twelve described semantic groups of mythological names are organized in the form of a field with a core and peripheral parts. For each group, the features of contextual use are noted. The authors come to the conclusion that in the Bunin picture of the world, mythonyms of various semantics perform text-forming and meaning-forming functions. They not only represent archetypal images (Fire, Bottom, Feminine, Garden, etc.), axiological oppositions (light — darkness, good — evil, etc.), key ideas, themes and motives (the idea of being still, themes of love, death, motives of temptation, resurrection, dreams, etc.), historiosophical concepts (moral choice and fortitude), but also participate in the creation of an individual author’s myth.

Abstract:
Most studies of Malay names to date have been based on ethnographic and literary sources. This article presents a new dataset for Malay onomastics, namely Islamic seals from Southeast Asia, inscribed in Arabic script and dating from the late 16th to early 20th century, over half of which bear a personal name. A high proportion of these seals are of sovereigns, and Malay seals are thus an exceptionally valuable primary source for regnal names. Yet while in Malay texts and chronicles the use of personal names is generally avoided in favour of kinship terms, relational names, titles and descriptive epithets, Malay seals are almost invariably inscribed with standard Arabic-Islamic personal names. This feature should be interpreted in the context of the image of self which the sealholder wished to project to the outside world, in which his or her Islamic identity, and membership of the universal ummah, was of prime importance. Keywords: Malay names, onomastic, Malay seals, regnal names, Islamic names Abstrak Kebanyakan kajian tentang nama Melayu setakat ini berdasarkan sumber daripada bidang etnografi atau bidang persuratan.

Abstract:
Problem statement. The article is devoted to the linguistic and linguistic-and-literary analysis of the short story «Dark alleys» by I.A. Bunin aiming at mastering the methods of such type of analysis of an art work. The article aims to consider the linguistic structure of the story in terms of vocabulary, translation, word formation, morphology and onomastics. Special attention is paid to the linguistic basis and lexical base of this story. Results. This paper highlights and describes the features of outdated, non-equivalent, borrowed and calque words, which are used to express the historical space of the story «Dark alleys» by I.A. Bunin. The author's means of information coding concerning important historical events are analyzed. It is found out by what language means the author expresses the ideological and emotional sides of his story and linguistically significant information about the language units used to reflect the real character in the story is revealed. Conclusion. Analyzing the short story of I.A. Bunin, we came to the conclusion that the onomastic material of the story plays a specific role: the name of the main character was chosen by the author in honor of the Russian officer - Nikolai Alekseevich Kireev, and the name of Job in parallel to the "unhappiness" of the author for his whim. As a result, we prove that the text of the story cannot be covered with any quick reading. This story was written using the tools of different language sections: vocabulary, word formation, morphology and onomastics. The story should be read carefully, because placing it in the collection «Dark alleys», the author thus emphasizes that he describes not only love, but also history, and not one, but two at once.

Abstract:
Regional onomastics is an entangled system that involves names circulating in a specific region, which can be relatively well-known or almost unfamiliar outwards. Today, onomastics is an independent branch of science having as its subject of study both lexemes certainly related to proper names (e. g.: toponyms, hydronyms) and lexemes which lie at the border of propriatives and appellatives, including ethnonyms. Region’s onyms studying helps to find out linguistic links between non-related neighbouring languages, to elicit dialectal features, to discover the places of peoples’ previous habitation, to identify cultural interaction and language borrowings – for that reason this topic is of particular relevance. Regional onyms can be regionalisms from the angle of regional linguistics, insofar as they are representative of a particular locality, but are of little notice or almost unknown beyond of it. This article introduces the concept of onomastic regionalism for clearer description of local onomastic realities in the context of regional linguistics and indicates the difference of onomastic regionalism from the term regional onym. As a rule, ethnonyms of small-numbered peoples do not have wide distribution outside their bearers’ places of residence; for that reason, the author considers them onomastic regionalisms. The study of small ethnic and subethnic groups’ names in Russia it still not sufficient from the point of their regional component, this relates especially to the ethnonyms of the Russian North-East; in that regard, the present topic still abides high relevance of research. The ethnonyms of the Russian North- Eastern indigenous peoples do not have detailed investigation from the position of their involvement in the Far Eastern regional onomasticon. In the present paper the author restrains at investigation of two ethnonyms of one small-numbered people in the Russian North-East – Chukchi; he describes its men and women’s official names, Chukcha and Chukchanka, from the view of the lexical units’ simultaneous attribution to literary language and regiolect. This paper is a theoretical study of the question that the ethnonyms Chukcha and Chukchanka belong to onomastic regionalisms. The author gives a practical example of the Chukcha ethnonym transition from the regiolect to the core of the literary language and gives the reasons why the female derivative of this ethnonym, Chukchanka, remains in the language periphery and of little notice outside Chikchi’s habitat.

Abstract:
The character of a proper name, be it an urbanonym or an anthroponym, may bear some stylistic burden, be an accessory of a style, in our case a newspaper one. The material for studying the newspaper is not only its typographical text, but also the marks made in the margins. Some interesting facts related to anthroponymy were extracted, in the course of our research, from various books of famous scientific and literary figures. Further, here are several cases related to toponyms (in the narrower sense, urban names) and their writing. Obviously, the noun-toponym formed by the suffix-prefix way, Подмосковье - has not yet finally entered the codified Russian language at the time of the publication of the newspaper issue for 1910. For the purpose of linguistic comparativization, the most interesting cases related to the anthroponymy and toponymy of today's press are given. Attention is also drawn to the case of accentology, and zoonyms are also discussed. There are cases when the mass media allow for distortion when quoting classics. The features of writing some toponyms are considered (the refusal to incline toponyms with -o). Partly, the article touches upon the theme of occasionalisms, dialectisms, univerbats (univerbs), colloquialisms, hydronyms, and simply names that are interesting for their exceptional rarity; norms of codified language, accentology. The subject of linguistic evolution that is taking place before our eyes is touched upon.

Abstract:The act of naming is considered a certain ritual. It is rooted in a list of options and ends in a stage where the process is narrated. Any object which bears a name, bears it to be seen as individual and unique, at least in the surroundings, and the process of naming a music band is no exception. The concept used for this process is Chrematonymy. The main aim of this text is to present an onomastic overview, out of a several subgenres of heavy metal band name corpus in order to explore the linguistic structure of such names, languages chosen for naming and onomastic aspects associated to social, religious, cultural, literary influences and also to classify and discuss based onomastic nomenclature. Based on a quantitative approach and from the linguistic and onomastics point of view, a corpus 844 Heavy Metal bands’ names from all over the world, a genre which constructed its own subculture with their own rules, fashion, discourse and naming rituals. Our analysis reveals cultural, literary, historical, religious and linguistic in band naming as well as an ample variety of morphological and syntactic constructions in the catalog of names. We can find that the variety of references in the name of a band is a network of social, linguistic and cultural connections and should not be only studied from the musicology or anthropology’ perspective, but also as a linguistic, social and cultural phenomenon.Key words: Chrematonym, Heavy metal, Onomastics, intercategories.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to one of the problems of literary onomastics — an inventory of onomastic units of literary texts as an integral part of the vocabulary of the language of a particular writer. The relevance of the chosen topic is due to the poorly studied issue of the mythonymicon of poetry and prose by I. A. Bunin. The novelty of the work is associated with the description of the mythological names of Bunin the poet as an integral system. The classification of mythonyms is based on five principles: the source from which the name was used (there were three such sources: etiological, anthropogonic, heroic, cult and other types of myths; religious and philosophical literature; multi-genre works of Slavic folklore); the nominated image of a fantastic object (eleven semantic groups are recorded: mythoanthroponyms, theonyms, demononyms, mythotonyms, mythohydronyms, mythoornithonyms, etc.); etymology (otonymic, otapellative and special contextual mythological names are marked); structural type (simple or oneword mythonyms, complex, represented by a bilexeme, and compound mythonyms, two-word and three-word ones are fixed); the presence of connotations in semantics (names with negative and positive connotative backgrounds were found). The author comes to the conclusion that mythonyms in I.A.Bunin's poetry become those stable linguistic signs that carry a huge amount of historical and cultural information and have a rich associative potential, accumulating the specifics of the writer's worldview, they contribute to the modeling of the text space.

Abstract:
The paper discusses the literary proper names Larin, Larina, Lariny (the Larins) from Pushkin’s novel Eugene Onegin, aiming to identify the most important factors behind the choice of this surname. To this end, the researcher establishes a reference for each of the poetonyms, considers their distribution in the text, examines the contexts of the primary and repeated character naming, and explores the semantic potential of these names for characterization and revealing the author’s attitude to his characters. The study has identified six factors that determined the relevance of poetonyms in the given work and, respectively, explain their choice by the writer. The first factor is the commonality of usage which adds to the realism and credibility of the literary image. Another significant factor is the word-formation pattern the name follows. The surname Larin comes from the folk anthroponymic forms Larya, Lara, which, in turn, are derived from the personal name Larion that goes back to the anthroponym Ilarion (from ancient Greek ἱλαρός, ‘cheerful, joyful’). The third factor is related to using the etymological meaning of the personal name Ilarion for characterization purposes. The fourth factor is its associative flow, that is, the ability to trigger associations that describe the surname bearers in the general context of the work. This associative background of the poetonyms evolves in two possible directions: Larin (-a, -y) — lar’ and lary. Both of these perform characterization functions, affecting the reader’s understanding of the poetonym. The fifth factor is the syllabic structure of the surname. The male form Larin is a choreic foot, the female and collective forms of Larina / Lariny form a dactylic foot. Both easily fit into the iambic tetrameter used in Pushkin’s novel. The sixth factor is the phonetic aspect of the surname. The phonosemantic analysis of the poetonyms provides convincing evidence that their exponents have positive ratings across a number of scales. The positive axiological coloring of these poetic names contrasts with the negative coloring of the names of other landowners, which is consistent with the author’s assessment of the characters.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of proper names in the context of such dramatic works by L. N. Razumovskaya, such as the plays “Under One Roof”, “Dear Elena Sergeevna”, “Garden Without Land”, “Maya”, “Home! ..”, “Medea” , "My sister The Little Mermaid." The novelty of the work is that earlier the onomasticon of Russian dramaturgy of the second half of the ΧΧ century, including the plays of L. N. Razumovskaya, was not studied, but meanwhile it occupies a special place and plays an important role both in understanding of theoretical foundations of literary onomastics, and their further development. The paper lists the features of creating and using proper names in the artist’s plays of the word. Here we consider the types and significance of headings, plot and non-plot poem, their status, semantics and functions, especially the use of modifiers in the studied works. The study reflects the results of applying a systematic approach to the classification of proper names functioning in a dramatic text, reveals the cognitive, linguoculturological, paradigmatic, syntagmatic aspects of their analysis, is aimed at identifying the general and individual author's laws of the onymic space (onomastic universals) of the “new wave” dramaturgy using an example of creativity L. N. Razumovskaya. The materials of the article can be used for educational and enlightening purposes in higher and secondary educational institutions - in teaching university courses in lexicology, linguistic analysis of literary text, stylistics, modern Russian literature, as well as special courses and special seminars on onomastics. The results of the study will be of interest to a wide range of teachers and teachers of Russian literature, introducing the modern achievements of philological sciences into the educational process, with the aim of forming students' sustained interest in the Russian language and culture, developing their creative abilities.

Abstract:
А. A. Platonov is a famous Russian writer of the 20 century who was born in Voronezh and had a long and complicated biography reflected in his works. Platonov’s literary heritage which includes prose, plays, features etc. is studied in various aspects but special attention must be paid to the specificity of the author’s usage of proper names from different groups. A proper name is a lexical unit which is regularly used in the process of language nomination of people, animals, countries, rivers, settlements etc. The variety of proper names, both functional and lingual, lead to the foundation of onomastics as a science to study such lexical units. We think that proper names are special artistic elements which do not exist in the text by themselves as they are always connected with other text elements being necessary for the image creation. The analysis of the interaction of all these systems leads to the better understanding of the author’s ideas and the purpose of usage of a certain onym which never happens by chance but is always based on the author’s associations with the name. In the present article we try to analyze a set of contemporary scientific works devoted to the functioning of onomastic units in A. Platonov’s prose. The analyzed works are quite serious but the research of onomastic units in A. Platonov’s creativity is still relevant because of the absence of systematic studies in this sphere.

Abstract:
The history of animal names begins with the early epochs of human evolution, when animalism was one of the basic components of the worldview. Despite a considerable number of works that study zoological vocabulary, the uncertainty of a number of terms and a certain arbitrariness of the use of terms and concepts associated with animal names is still present in onomastics, e.g. "zoonym" and "zoomorphism" refer to such concepts. The purpose of the article is to clarify the terminological meaning of these concepts, to generalize and systematize the basic research on the theory of zoonymic nominations. The research methodology was formed on the basis of theoretical positions in the field of onomastics and the theory of nominations in modern linguistics. As a result of the theoretical analysis the following findings were made. First, the terms "zoonym" and "zoomorphism" are not synonymous. "Zoonym" is a more general term than "zoomorphism". Zoomorphism represents zoological names of anthropological nature, attributing the traits associated with the image of an animal to a human. Zoonyms do not have such attributes. "Zoonim" is proposed to be the general term. Another finding was that the functioning of zoonyms and zoomorphisms in the literary text is influenced by the genre of the text, which is expressed in the genre determinism of the lexical composition of zoonyms nominating animals.

Abstract:
The study examines issues related to translating an author’s name and character names when these are considered paratexts. The introduction briefly describes the interdisciplinary context of study into paratextuality, pointing to the research areas emerging at the intersection of literary theory, translation studies, and onomastics. The paper then analyzes the translation methods used in the case of authors’ names, pseudonyms, title characters, and intertextual names in separate sections, focusing on publications of popular literature and 20th-century Hungarian prose, especially Zsigmond Móricz, Dezső Kosztolányi and Jenő Rejtő in foreign languages. Following the criteria described in the literature review, the study examines verbal paratexts and the visual paratexts of the covers (typography, cover image).
