Abstract:
In terms of the relationship between city and literature, Harold Bloom in his works Literary Places points out city is the poetical dwelling and source of literature, while writers construct various images of city in the literature. By analyzing the relationship between city and literature, on one side, city is the matrix of literature. City provides writers with writing materials and opportunities to demonstrate the panorama of a city. On the other side, writer’s works cultivate a kind of culture in a city and make the city come the unique literary capital.

AbstractThe focus of this article is a vast seventeenth-century panorama of Constantinople, which is an exceptional drawing of the city, currently displayed at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. The panorama is an elaborate piece of anti-Ottoman propaganda designed by the Franciscan friar Niccolò Guidalotto da Mondavio. Guidalotto also prepared a large manuscript, held in the Vatican Library, which details the panorama’s meaning and the motivation behind its creation. It depicts the city as seen from across the Golden Horn in Galata, throwing new light on both the city and the relationships between the rival Venetian Republic and the Ottoman Empire. It also trumpets the unalloyed Christian zeal of Niccolò Guidalotto and serves as a fascinating example of visual Crusade propaganda against the Ottomans in the early modern period.

Abstract:
The Romanian writer George Dorul Dumitrescu arrived at Chisinau in 1933 and worked for a time as a substitute teacher of Romanian at the „Regele Ferdinand I” Military High School. In 1944, a memoir about Chisinau appeared in Bucharest, entitled The City of Remembrance. Thanks to this book, we have the opportunity to recover the image of Chisinau from the interwar period with all the urban and cultural acquisitions, acquired in more than half a century under two political regimes. The author of the memoirs takes us imaginarily through a representative urban space of Chisinau. One by one, as the reading progresses, the center of a „special brilliance”, the wide boulevards and the clean streets with tree salong, the massively built building sand the elegant gardens take shape. For anyone who wants to see this literary representation imaginarily reconstructs, like current digital technologies nD, a true „western city”. From The wanderers in thekidnapped land by Dumitru Moruzi, George Dorul Dumitrescu created perhaps the widestand most amazing panorama of the city in the literary space.

Abstract:
The perception of Fyodor Dostoevsky as a literary painter of St. Petersburg has become an axiom in literary criticism. However, modern researchers pay attention to the significance of other cities for the writer, which are inextricably linked both with his biography and his work. Fyodor Dostoevsky not only instantly noticed visual metaphors and historical and cultural narratives of the places where he was destined to be, but he also included presciently read city texts in his literary works. This article is aimed to identify those ‘local texts’ of the urban space in the novel “The Adolescent”, which contribute to the reconstruction and representation of its basic concepts. This research affirms the consistency and integrity of the artistic geo-panorama created by Fyodor Dostoevsky. The creation and representation of concepts both by the writer and his heroes are carried out by comparing individual points and forming a kind of textual ‘isolines’. As an analytical and illustrative material, various modifications of such “isolines” of are given, the elements of which are St. Petersburg, Moscow, Konigsberg, and Ems. The local texts of these cities contribute to the restoration of the nucleus meanings of the basic concepts of the penultimate work by Fyodor Dostoevsky, which include: disorder, ugliness, goodness, random family, strength, heart, living life, pilgrimage, wandering, care, and flunkeyism.

Abstract:
This essay focuses on the relationship between certain popular visual forms, such as the city sketch and the panorama, and the making of an urban novelistic aesthetic, of which Charles Dickens's Bleak House (1852-53) is the most developed embodiment. In order to delineate the specific features of this urban aesthetic I turn to the very different ways in which William Makepeace Thackeray in Pendennis (1848-50) and, especially, Vanity Fair (1847-48) articulates the city and those who inhabit it-despite Thackeray's familiarity with the representational modes that developed in the relatively "lower" forms of visual culture. Through this process of differentiation I show how this urban aesthetic involves distinct ways of negotiating such problems as the tension between the dispersive and the centralizing impulses of the city, as well as the threat that the teeming, socially unpredictable life of the city posed to the traditional domain of the novel, the middle- or upper-class home. Finally, by setting off Dickens's mode of figuring character against Thackeray's more self-consciously literary methods, I highlight the ways in which the urban aesthetic that underlies Bleak House affected Dickens's methods.

Abstract:
In literary works, the construction of urban space serves as both a canvas for the subjective perceptions of the novelist towards society and a mirror reflecting the objective social order of a particular era. Within Fyodor Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, the city of St. Petersburg in the 19th century emerges as a central backdrop, with the bustling Hay Market serving as a focal point. Dostoevsky adeptly captures the city's darkness and oppressive atmosphere, presenting it as a microcosm of societal complexities. This essay delves into the lives of St. Petersburg's lower-class denizens as depicted in the novel, using Dostoevsky's portrayal of the city's "dark panorama" to examine its broader implications. Rather than merely serving as a backdrop, the city becomes a reflection of human consciousness, encapsulating the author's nuanced understanding of social dynamics and psychological intricacies. Through an analysis of urban space in Crime and Punishment, this paper aims to elucidate Dostoevsky's exploration of the interconnectedness between societal structures and individual psyches.

Abstract:
In my article I reconstructed the picture of literary and theatrical Cracow in the years 1918– 1939, represented in the memorials Młodości mej stolica. Pamiętnik krakowianina z okresu między wojnami (the extended edition, 1984), written by Tadeusz Kudliński. The author was an active participant of the cultural life of this city and a bystander of the great social and historical changes after Poland regained its independence in 1918. I tried to confront his subjective view of the important artistic events and processes in the interwar period with the objectivism of historical studies. Kudliński presented a complete and detailed image but, naturally, he paid more attention only to some facts, disregarding or briefly mentioning others. I wanted to understand the motivation behind thematic selection of the material. In the first part of this article, I analysed Kudliński’s „gallery of the portraits” of Cracovian writers and theatre people, paying special attention to the applied genre convention and description method. In the second part, I presented some individual elements of the literary Cracow panorama: professional organisation and institutionalisation of the literary life, the functioning of the publishing market, the development of local newspapers and periodicals, the financial situation of the writers and the meaning of tradition and avant-garde. In the third part, I reconstructed the image of the theatrical Cracow and the author’s views on the philosophy and aesthetics of the theatre. My main objective was to show the great documentary value of Kudliński’s memories – due to their factographic credibility and variety of content Młodości mej stolica can be a valuable source of knowledge about the history of Cracow.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the image of Buenos Aires in the narrative of Ana María Shua, an Argentine writer of Polish Jewish descent. Urban space plays an important role in her prose described often as apocalyptic or dystopian. Through a historiographical metafiction, the author rewrites the memory of the ancestors in El libro de los recuerdos (2007), a novel that presents the life of Jewish immigrants in the capital of Argentina, divided into neighborhoods marked by their ethnicity. Eroticism and the use of the female body are, on the other hand, the topics that dominate in the author’s collection of micro-stories titled Casa de geishas (2009), where the brothel is described as a singular ghetto, rooted in the city panorama. Finally, the novel La muerte como efecto secundario offers a dystopic description of a future of a ghettoized city, where compulsory geriatric ghettos become a reality. The article, based on the analysis of the aforementioned works, presents a critical look at the use of the concept of “ghetto” or “urban island” in the construction of the narrative structure and space in Ana María Shua’s fiction.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Saul Bellow, as a cerebral, analytical, and philosophical writer, unflinchingly describes the world and gives the readers tremendous thoughts about life and society. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1976 for his human understanding and subtle analysis of contemporary culture. In Mr. Sammler’s Planet, Bellow shows the readers a death-burdened, rotting, spoiled, sullied, exasperating, sinful earth. This insane world is full of droll mortality and morbid entertainments. The coexistence of rationality and bestiality in man is vividly displayed in this novel. In his Introduction to Ethical Literary Criticism, Professor Nie Zhenzhao formulated the theory of the Sphinx factor as composed of the human factor and the animal factor, and the combination of the two makes an integrated man. The animal factor in the novel is fully demonstrated in the black pickpocket’s bestiality, Mr. Sammler’s voyeurism, the Holocaust, killings and thefts. However, the human factor is not so salient as the animal factor in this novel. I argue that the tension between the two factors not only intensifies the conflicts but shows how the author perceives the world. Bellow shows a strong contempt for the world. A pessimistic and critical outlook is conveyed in Bellow’s understanding of cities, represented by Chicago and New York. Robbery, cheating, speculation, beauty, money and lust construct a corrupted panorama of industrial cities. This is one of the reasons why Bellow highlights the animal factor more than the human factor. He seeks to criticize the American city from different perspectives of city culture, including the corruption of the bureaucracy, vices in public transport, changes in the urban landscape, competition between the pursuit of art and the pursuit of money.

Trends in tourism motives include socio-cultural, customs, environment, and panorama, as well as economics and welfare. However, the implementation of tourism will undoubtedly be disrupted by management and development that are not founded on the principles of sustainability. Therefore, through the process of environmental education, preventative and awareness initiatives are required. The main objective of this research was to examine the effectiveness of an ethnoecotourism-based environmental education model for tourism actors in Aceh Province. This model was developed to increase environmental literacy in marine tourism management. Model trials were carried out in the Sabang City Marine Tourism Area. The participants of this research were tourism actors in Aceh Province. The research design uses a quasi-experimental method consisting of pretest-posttest groups and uses multiple-choice questions as a research tool. The data analysis technique applied in this research was quantitative descriptive analysis techniques, in which data were processed inductively using an interactive analysis model. It is known that this model could improve the environmental literacy skills of tourism actors at the research location. It was shown by the significant value obtained at p = 0.000 (< 0.05), where there was a difference in students’ scores after being given the learning process, with the average post-test score of 12.43, higher than the pretest score of 8.40, which means there was an increase in understanding of environmental literacy after being given a learning process using an ethnoecotourism-based environmental education model.

Abstract:
Film noir is one of American cinema’s most renowned and well-studied phenomena. It is a cycle of films made during the 1940s and 1950s, mostly produced as B-movies, i.e., cheaper films presented as part of a double feature. This is one of the most important reasons why it took such a long time for American film scholars to address the importance of film noir. The first monograph on film noir, Panorama du film noir américain, was published in France in 1955, and this work by Borde and Chaumeton remains one of the most valuable studies covering this important cycle. Generally speaking, French film scholars are those most responsible for highlighting the value of American, and especially Hollywood, film while significant American contributions to the study of film noir only began in the 1970s. Like few American films that preceded it, The Killers presented a completely dark world filled with hapless protagonists, where the only location that evokes even a glimmer of happiness is a terrace on the edge of the city. All other locations are a vivid reflection of the state of mind of the film’s main characters, lost in the dark labyrinths of the metropolis, victims of the unfathable threads that fate uses to play with their lives. Utilizing a combination of extremely claustrophobic locations and flashbacks that further fragment an already very complex narrative, Siodmak created a work that is one of the most faithful evocations of fatalism in American film.

Abstract:
The goal of this paper is to investigate the role of disciplinary power regimes of femininity in sporting institutions depicted in sports fiction. With a renewed interest in analyzing sports practices as specifically gendered, this paper addresses how contemporary narratives’ deeper address of the affective encounters of characters has reconfigured the sports literary panorama. As represented in Miranda Kenneally’s novel, Coming Up for Air (2017), friendship poses a challenge to the institutionalized, parental and gendered bodily vulnerability of sports. The analysis reveals how the adolescent body is manageable but can also contest, in direct questioning of the interests of authority. Enjoying friendship in sports, eventually, reveals paths towards more inclusive (bodily) practices in them. Finally, this paper speaks of the fact that juvenile fiction, traditionally considered an archive of negative influence on young readers’ behaviors, can exercise the opposite effect too. On the basis of the analysis of the collections “Heroines and Heroes”, “Queuing for Holy Water” and “The Word of a Kind”, it is emphasized that the views of the capital and reflections around them become a significant part of the textual space, part of the urban landscape, and in some cases turn into a hero of the work: a witness of events, an observer, and even a special participant. It is emphasized that Kyiv in the essays plays the role of an indispensable component of the artistic narrative and authorʼs reflection. Descriptions of the main city of Ukraine are intoned by the author's mnemonics, serve as illustrative material, and sometimes act as the quintessence of the authorʼs observations. Panoramic and reduced in accordance with the authorʼs idea, the locations of Kyiv are mainly concentrated in texts devoted to socio-cultural issues, rarely exclusively literary ones. It is proved that Kyiv in Ye. Kononenkoʼs essayistic interpretation appears in a neorealistic image with certain postmodern accents. The writer does not idealize or sacralize the capital. There are practically no descriptions of famous locations in her works. All places of the capital, chosen by the author for interpretation, are symbolic exclusively for her personally and are often little known to a wide audience. The author, thinking about the problems of the contemporary existence of a creative person, chooses the capital as a background for stories and reflections, offering cultural, social, existential, metaphysical and autobiographical narratives and narratives. The capital becomes the center of the authorʼs existence and at the same time his background. It was concluded that Ye. Kononenkoʼs essays do not deal with a specially created image of Kyiv, and also do not present the theme of the city, traditional for classical artists; it is about the urban discourse around Kyiv, and the works themselves are a reflection on life, creativity, family, communication caused by this metropolis.

Abstract:
The article deals with Dina Rubina's novel On the Sunny Side of the Street, published in 2006. The writer's name became known in Russia in the 70-ies when as a young girl she began publishing her first short stories in the liberal literary magazine Junost ́, and got her first recognition among the reading public as a promising story-teller.After her emigration to Israel in 1990 a new period in Dina Rubina's writing started. A new theme made itself apparent in her stories - the theme of Jews from the former Soviet Union discovering their new Motherland, their new experience of living under absolutely different geographical and social surroundings. She managed to create in her stories a gallery of characters almost recognizable in their uncertainty and fumbling attempts at survival. The stories she wrote then were a success with the public not only because of their plot but also because of a peculiar mixture of humour and sadness, and very vivid and convincing speech characteristics of the protagonists, they also witnessed about the awakening of patriotic feelings of the newcomers. Dina Rubina's artistic style seemed to combine the vividness of the psychological characterization and caleidoscopic variety of depicted situations. The novel On the Sunny Side of the Street is different both in the topic and in the artistic means used by the author. It is telling a story of two gifted persons, mother and daughter, and their different ways of using their talents. This particular story is shown on a wide background of different events taking place in Tashkent during some four decades after World War II with a picturesque variety of characters of different nationalities and beautiful scenery, tragic and comic signs of the Soviet time - all this helps to create a panoramic view of both the city and its inhabitants. The structure of the novel is complicated, the story is often interrupted by voices of former inhabitants of Tashkent telling about their impressions from the town or by the voice of the author telling of her own private experiences and even meetings with the main protagonist, Vera, who is a painter. This fact accounts for the author's masterful use of colourful details both in descriptions of the characters, their speech and the nature. This novel was rewarded with a special Radio-Booker prize in 2006, and with a very prestigious literary prize "Bol ́šaja kniga" in 2007. Dina Rubina has proved that she remains a very important part of Russian literary life.

Abstract:

New york city went through a period of dramatic change between 1845 and 1860. During those fifteen years New York became a complex and multiform modern city-the center of American commerce and culture, and the center as well of the new social problems that large-scale immigration and economic centralization brought. I am interested in the contemporary discourse used to describe the rapidly changing city, and I concentrate here on the convention of the panorama as used in that discourse. I will try to show that the New York panorama — as developed in popular illustration and popular fiction, in journalism and nonfiction — functioned to acknowledge a new immensity of urban scale at the same time as it created an image of the city as a single, comprehensible whole.

Abstract:
The article considers the problems of the formation of the marine facade of the city of Odessa. Based on this, the world experience in the formation of marine facades of the most vibrant coastal cities was studied. It turned out that one of the features of the perception of the city is its panorama and silhouette, where the panorama is a view of the city, and the silhouette is a vertical outline designation of the city. In coastal cities, the formation of an artistic look takes place from the sea and the city, that is, the silhouette and panorama of the city are not only its individual visual feature, but also its hallmark in the field of tourism development. The most responsible and impressive should be the architectural appearance of the city from the sea. Panoramas with views of the building and water, bridges, natural landscape and coastal architectural ensembles open along the water areas. Thus, the coastal territories of the city of Odessa were analyzed in terms of the silhouette of the city from the sea. As a result, it is clear that the silhouette is monotonous and boring, its only feature is port facilities, and the visual perception of Odessa from the sea is not noticeable and cannot compete with other coastal cities of the world, which helps to pay special attention to its coastal territories. To determine the basic principles of the formation of the marine facade of the city of Odessa, the scientific work of Odessa scientists, as well as options for experimental design, were considered. The considered project proposals were based on the creation of a unique marine silhouette of the city of Odessa, as well as the development of tourist and recreational functions on the lands of the water fund. Despite interesting decisions, this entails enormous economic costs and foreign investment. Therefore, the creation of an architectural and compositional solution to the marine facade of the city is possible due to undeveloped coastal recreational zones and depressed economic territories, which is economically beneficial and relevant. Based on the principles that must be taken into account when designing on the coast, it can be concluded that coastal territories can become the dominant objects at the heart of the silhouette of the city. Economic territories that are located far from the coastal zone can be background highrise objects when forming the panorama of Odessa.

Abstract:
In Constructing Melchior Lorichs's Panorama of Constantinople, Nigel Westbrook, Kenneth Rainsbury Dark, and Rene Van Meeuwen propose that Melchior Lorichs's 1559 Panorama of Constantinople was created by using a viewing grid. The panorama is thus a reliable graphic source for the lost or since-altered Ottoman and Byzantine buildings of the city. The panorama appears to lie outside the conventional symbolic mode of topographical depiction common for its period and constitutes a rare "scientific" record of an encounter of a perspicacious observer with a vast subject. The drawing combines elements of allegory with extensive empirical observation. Several unknown structures, shown on the drawing, have been located in relation to the present-day topography of Istanbul, as a test-case for further research.

Abstract:
The current research paper aims at shedding light on self-translation within the Arabic contemporary context, hence delving into a valuable research on the subject which is still not often tackled. This paper provides insight into the self-translation practice of Arab authors who have resorted to such atypical activity. The Algerian context will be given particular importance in order to define the circumstances and reasons that motivated some contemporary Algerian authors to translate their own writings and to embark on this highly challenging endeavor. Thus, our study will put the spotlight on the definition of the concept of self-translation, a brief overview of Arabic literature devoted to it, plus a typology of self-translation and the motives that invigorated this practice. We will then try - through the examination of some Arab self-translation experiences - to identify the characteristics of this practice within the Arab context, and thereby understand the points of divergence that distinguish the Algerian experience from that of other Arab authors, as well as the points of convergence on which these different practices come together.

Residential buildings consume a large percentage of the electricity produced, and improving the energy efficiency of buildings will contribute to energy conservation, as well as energy security and energy independence from energy imports. Significant savings in energy consumption can be achieved through the development and implementation of energy management systems to implement energy-efficient management of modern buildings and the use of smart technologies in buildings, which will allow to control and optimise energy consumption and promote the rational use of energy. The purpose of the article. To develop an energy management system for the residential complex “Panorama” in Dnipro city. The work was carried out within the framework of the international project PRECEPT [1] under HORIZON 2020 programme. Conclusions. An energy management system for a residential complex based on monitoring of climate and air quality parameters is proposed. The system has been successfully put into operation, and in real time receives and processes external data on energy costs, weather conditions and other parameters, analyses and accumulates data, makes the necessary decisions on energy consumption and sends the results to consumers and building managers to save energy or improve comfort.

Abstract:
The historical research of the illustrated Nuremberg Chronicle [Schedelsche Weltchronik (English: Schedel’s World Chronicle)] of Hartmann Schedel comprises the complex historical knowledge about numerous woodcuts which present views of various cities important in the world’s history, e.g. Jerusalem, Constantinople, or the European ones such as: Rome, some Italian, German or Polish cities e.g. Wrocław and Cracow; some Hungarian and some Czech Republic cities. Researchers have made a serious study to recognize certain constructions in the woodcuts; they indicated the conservative and contractual architecture, the existing places and the unrealistic (non-existent) places. The results show that there is a common detail in all the views – the defensive wall round each of the described cities. However, in reality, it may not have existed in some cities during the lifetime of the authors of the woodcuts. As for some further details: behind the walls we can see feudal castles on the hills shown as strongholds. Within the defensive walls there are numerous buildings with many towers typical for the Middle Ages and true-to-life in certain ways of building the cities. Schematically drawn buildings surrounded by the ring of defensive walls indicate that the author used certain patterns based on the previously created panoramic views. This article is an attempt of making analogical comparisons of the cities in medieval painting. The Author of the article presents Roman mosaics and the miniature painting e.g. the ones created in the scriptorium in Reichenau. Since the beginning of 14th century Italian painters such as: Duccio di Buoninsegna, Giotto di Bondone, Simone Martini and Ambrogio Lorenzetti painted parts of the cities or the entire monumental panoramas in various compositions and with various meanings. One defining rule in this painting concerned the definitions of the cities given by Saint Isidore of Seville, based on the rules which he knew from the antique tradition. These are: urbs – the cities full of architecture and buildings but uninhabited or civita – the city, the living space of the human life, build-up space, engaged according to the law, kind of work and social hierarchy. The tradition of both ways of describing the city is rooted in Italy. This article indicates the particular meaning of Italian painting in distributing the image of the city – as the votive offering. The research conducted by Chiara Frugoni and others indicated the meaning of the city images in the painting of various forms of panegyrics created in high praise of cities, known as laude (Lat.). We can find the examples of them rooted in the Roman tradition of mosaics, e.g. in San Apollinare Nuovo in Ravenna. They present both palatium and civitas. The medieval Italian painting, especially the panel painting, presents the city structure models which are uninhabited and deprived of any signs of everyday life. The models of cities – urbs, are presented as votive offerings devoted to their patron saints, especially to Virgin Mary. The city shaped as oval or sinusoidal rings surrounded by the defensive walls resembled a container filled with buildings. Only few of them reflected the existing cities and could mainly be identified thanks to the inscriptions. The most characteristic examples were: the fresco of Taddeo di Bartolo in Palazzo Publico in Siena, which presented the Dominican Order friar Ambrogio Sansedoni holding the model of his city – Siena, with its most recognizable building - the Cathedral dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. The same painter, referred to as the master painter of the views of the cities as the votive offerings, painted the Saint Antilla with the model of Montepulciano in the painting from 1401 for the Cathedral devoted to the Assumption of Mary in Montepulciano. In the painting made by T. di Bartolo, the bishop of the city of Gimignano, Saint Gimignano, presents the city in the shape of a round lens surrounded by defence walls with numerous church towers and the feudal headquarters characteristic for the city. His dummer of the city is pyramidally-structured, the hills are mounted on the steep slopes reflecting the analogy to the topography of the city. We can also find the texts of songs, laude (Lat.) and panegyrics created in honour of the cities and their rulers, e.g. the texts in honour of Milan, Bonvesin for La Riva, known in Europe at that time. The city – Arcadia (utopia) in the modern style. Hartman Schedel, as a bibliophile and a scholar, knew the texts of medieval writers and Italian art but, as an ambitious humanist, he could not disregard the latest, contemporary trends of Renaissance which were coming from Nuremberg and from Italian cities. The views of Arcadia – the utopian city, were rapidly developing, as they were of great importance for the rich recipient in the beginning of the modern era overwhelmed by the early capitalism. It was then when the two opposites were combined – the shepherd and the knight, the Greek Arcadia with the medieval city. The reception of Virgil’s Arcadia in the medieval literature and art was being developed again in the elite circles at the end of 15th century. The cultural meaning of the historical loci, the Greek places of the ancient history and the memory of Christianity constituted the essence of historicism in the Renaissance at the courts of the Comnenos and of the Palaiologos dynasty, which inspired the Renaissance of the Latin culture circle. The pastoral idleness concept came from Venice where Virgil’s books were published in print in 1470, the books of Ovid: Fasti and Metamorphoses were published in 1497 and Sannazaro’s Arcadia was published in 1502, previously distributed in his handwriting since 1480. Literature topics presented the historical works as memoria, both ancient and Christian, composed into the images. The city maps drawn by Hartmann Schedel, the doctor and humanist from Nurnberg, refer to the medieval images of urbs, the woodcuts with the cities, known to the author from the Italian painting of the greatest masters of the Trecenta period. As a humanist he knew the literature of the Renaissance of Florence and Venice with the Arcadian themes of both the Greek and the Roman tradition. The view of Constantinople in the context of the contemporary political situation, is presented in a series of monuments of architecture, with columns and defensive walls, which reminded of the history of the city from its greatest time of Constantine the Great, Justinian I and the Comnenus dynasty. Schedel’s work of art is the sum of the knowledge written down or painted. It is also the result of the experiments of new technology. It is possible that Schedel was inspired by the hymns, laude, written by Psellos in honour of Constantinople in his elaborate ecphrases as the panegyrics for the rulers of the Greek dynasty – the Macedonians. Already in that time, the Greek ideal of beauty was reborn, both in literature and in fine arts. The illustrated History of the World presented in Schedel’s woodcuts is given to the recipients who are educated and to those who are anonymous, in the spirit of the new anthropology. It results from the nature of the woodcut reproduction, that is from the way of copying the same images. The artist must have strived to gain the recipients for his works as the woodcuts were created both in Latin and in German. The collected views were supposed to transfer historical, biblical and mythological knowledge in the new way of communication.
