Abstract:
The article presents a large fragment of the authors glossary (dictionary) on the literature of Russian Germans (the authors definitions of literary concepts related to the literature of Russian Germans, based on its study in a doctoral dissertation and a number of articles). Writers - Russian Germans - Russian-German bilinguals, therefore the dictionary on the literature of Russian Germans should be presented in German-Russian format (articles in German and Russian). In the original literature of Russian Germans, there are phenomena and facts specific to this subculture. The Dictionary of the Literature of Russian Germans, explaining the meanings of words that may be unfamiliar, incomprehensible, or partially incomprehensible to the reader, makes it possible to significantly expand the circle of connoisseurs of the literature of Russian Germans, facilitates the perception of literary and scientific text.

Abstract:
This article takes a “genealogical” approach to the concept of minor literature. It argues that the concept of minor literature originated with the idea of “triple ghetto” that emerged in the Prague Czech-German-Jewish environment and was applied to explain the work of Kafka and his fellow Prague writers. Minor literature is the most famous application of the “triple ghetto” concept. A close reconsideration of Kafka’s German/Czech/Jewish Prague reveals interesting relations among several “small,” “minor” and “ultraminor” literatures, relationships that Deleuze and Guattari overlooked. The relationships between various literary entities in Prague extend beyond the binary positioning of “minor” and “major” inherent in the concept of minor literature. In addition to Kafka’s relationship to German literature, we need to consider Kafka’s relationship to the “small” Czech literature, the marginal “ultraminor” German and German Jewish and Czech Jewish literatures of his times, and perhaps most interestingly, to writers who were equally at home in German and Czech.

Abstract:
This thesis is a critical analysis of W.G. Sebald‘s Luftkrieg und Literatur (On the Natural History of Destruction) and its reception in the German media and in scholarship. Sebald‘s essay caused a public debate in 1997 over the ethical implications of a cultural memory of the Allied bombings of German cities in the Second World War. Since then, the essay has come to be understood as a foundational moment in the discourse surrounding 'German victimhood' in representations of the bombings and the expulsions of ethnic Germans from the Eastern territories. The thesis argues that Sebald‘s essay has been widely mis-read and mis-appropriated in the service of the discourse. Re-inscribing the essay into the aesthetic and philosophical framework of Sebald‘s wider prose oeuvre, from which it is frequently divorced in scholarship, it argues that the text is exemplary of Sebald‘s creation of an archive of 'natural history' with regard to the representation of past catastrophes. Situating the essay within a 20th century tradition of German thinking on history and the enlightenment that informs Sebald‘s thought, I use this thick contextualisation to argue that Sebald‘s fascination with the bombings and the ruined cities provides an intersection between his academic and aesthetic practice, offering important insights into his natural historical gaze, archival technique and preoccupation with the catastrophic history of his country of origin. With this examination of an important but often mis-understood text, the thesis aims to enrich the field of memory studies in relation to post-reunification Germany and correct an oversight in the recent history of cultural memory regarding the Nazi past. It also aims to fill a gap in the scholarship on W.G. Sebald, a writer who has increasingly been understood as one of the most significant in the recent German canon, by reinscribing Luftkrieg und Literatur into his body of work.

Abstract:
No work of art stands in isolation. In one way or another it will have evolved from a form that has been created before, and likewise, it may itself have an influence on future developments and trends in a given genre. The literary reworking distinguishes itself by referring openly and explicitly to a previous <I>fictional</I> model, thus encouraging the reader to draw comparisons and to note contrasts between the model and the reworking. The investigation concentrates on two examples, from each genre, the drama, the novella and the novel. Reworkings of myths and legendary or historical characters have been excluded. Subject of the thesis is (a) an examination of how this link between model and reworking has been established, and (b) the effect the suggested presence of the literary model has on the interpretation of the reworking. With regard to (a) it has been found that each respective writer employs different narrative techniques to establish the link between model and reworking which has been summarized thus: - allusion to classicism: Schiller: <I>Die Jungfrau von Orleans</I> and Brecht: <I>Die heilige Johanna der Schlachthöfe</I>; - ironic reproduction: Hebbel: <I>Maria Magdalena</I> and Franz Xaver Kroetz: <I>Maria Magdalena</I>; - fragmentation: Thomas Mann: <I>Der Tod in Venedig</I> and Wolfgang Koeppen: <I>Der Tod in Rom</I>; - integration: Georg Büchner: <I>Lenz</I> and Peter Schneider: <I>Lenz</I>; - quotation: Goethe: <I>Die Leiden des jungen Werther </I>and Ulrich Plenzdorf: <I>Die neuen Leiden de jungen W</I>.; - character constellation: Goethe: <I>Die Wahlverwandstschaften </I>and John Banville: <I>The Newton Letter</I> With regard to (b) the effect of the reworking when read in conjunction with its literary model is strikingly different in each case, but common to all reworkings is a gain in historical depth, and in each case new themes and issues arise which are not immediately apparent when the reworking is considered on its own.

Abstract:
This dissertation deals with current political immigration debates, the conversations about the philosophical concept of recognition, and intercultural encounters in contemporary German literature. By reading contemporary literature in connection with philosophical, psychological, and theoretical works, new problem areas of the liberal promise of recognition become visible. Tied to assumptions of cultural essentialism, language use, and prejudice, one of the main findings of this work is how the recognition process is closely tied to narrative. Particularly within developmental psychology it is often argued that we learn and come to terms with ourselves through narrative. The chosen literary encounters written by Alev Tekinay, Emine Sevgi Özdamar, Maxim Biller, Rafael Seligmann, and Finn-Ole Heinrich magnify this particular human experience on an aesthetic level and dismantle “mechanisms of recognition,” particularly three aspects illustrating the recognition process: the role of the narrator and his or her description of the characters, the construction of family bonds within the texts, and the linguistic and cultural practice of naming with all of its connotations. Within the chosen texts there is no unified depiction of the recognition process, but rather the texts elucidate a multidimensionality of this concept, tying it closely to the political, social, and aesthetic sphere. In this context the analysis brings to light that the notion of “authenticity” crucially informs recognition as well as the circumstances of a power imbalance that dominates the process. My analysis shows that contrary to popular assumptions in philosophical and political debates, the concept of recognition turns out to be rather limiting instead of liberating.

Abstract:
Persistent gendered assumptions about women and violence predominately depict women as non-violent and peaceful. Due to this gender blindness and simplistic frames used to understand the attraction of women toward far-right extremist groups, women tend to get overlooked as active participants, and their roles ignored or downplayed. This not only hinders the overall understanding of far-right extremist groups but also impedes the development of effective counterprograms that specifically address the experiences and paths of these women. Drawing from the experiences and insights of German initiatives and from additional literature on the topic, this policy note explores the wide-ranging motivations of women joining far-right extremist groups and the different roles they can play in them. By including wider research to why women leave far-right extremist groups, the policy note offers lessons learned and recommendations that may be helpful in optimizing prevention and exit programs aimed at women in far-right extremist groups beyond the German context.

Abstract:
This rapid literature review explains the stages of an election cycle, and how donors provide support to electoral cycles. It draws mainly on policy guidance websites and papers due to the questions of this review and the level of analysis taken (global-level, donor-level). It focuses on publications from the last five years, and/or current/forthcoming donor strategies. The electoral cycle and its stages are well-established policy concepts for which there is widespread acceptance and use. Donor support to electoral cycles (through electoral assistance and electoral observation) is extremely widespread, and the dominant donors in this area are the multilateral organisations like the United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU), and also the United States (US). While almost all bilateral donors also carry out some work in this area, “almost all major electoral support programmes are provided jointly with international partners” (DFID, 2014, p.5). Bilateral donors may provide broader support to democratic governance initiatives, which may not be framed as electoral assistance, but may contribute to the wider enabling environment. All of the donors reviewed in this query emphasise that their programmes are designed according to the local context and needs, and thus, beyond the big actors - EU, UN and US, there is little overarching information on what the donors do in this area. While there is a significant literature base in the broad area of electoral support, it tends to be focussed at the country, programme, or thematic, level, rather than at the global, or donor, level taken by this paper. There was a peak in global-level publications on this subject around 2006, the year the electoral cycle model was published by the European Commission, International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This review concludes by providing examples of the electoral assistance work carried out by five donors (UN, EU, US, UK and Germany).

Abstract:
The literature on WASH and school re-opening during the COVID-19 pandemic is dominated by guidelines with little in the way of recent evidence or lessons learned. Analysis of data from school re-openings at the end of 2020 suggests that with mitigation measures in place community infection rates should not be affected by children returning to school. Although children carry a lower risk of infection, they do have large numbers of contact in the school environment, so hygiene and distancing measures are important. The key guidelines for WASH in schools during the COVID-19 pandemic include: children and all school staff must be educated with regards to hand hygiene; hand hygiene stations must be provided at entrances and exits; hand washing must be frequent and requires sufficient water and soap; school buses should have hand hygiene measures in place; and the school environment must be disinfected daily. Environmental, or nudge-based, cues are recommended to support behaviour change in children based on pre-COVID-19 evidence. Examples include colourful footprints leading to a handwashing facility, images of eyes above handwashing facilities, embedding toys in soap, and putting pictures of germs on surfaces.

The thematic structure of magazines, which is inferior the association of different on age, is considered, by vital experience and professional orientation of people in the conditions of the forced emigration, paid regard to graphic registration of magazines, which, without regard to absence of the proper publisher-polydiene bases, marked structuralness and expressiveness. A repertoire of periodicals of Ukrainian migration is in the American, English and French areas of occupation of Germany and Austria after Second world war, which consists of 200 names, strikes the tipologichnoy vseokhopnistyu and testifies to the high intellectual level of the moved persons, desire of yaknaynovishe, to realize the considerable potential in new terms with hope on transference of the purchased experience to Ukraine. Without regard to unfavorable publisher-polydiene possibilities, absence of financial support and proper encouragement, release, followed the intensive necessity of concentration of efforts for achievement of primary purpose – receipt and re-erecting of the Ukrainian State.
