Abstract:
Inclusive literature as a component of the process of real involvement of people with disabilities in active social life remains out of the attention of researchers. The paper aims to study the state and existing problems in publishing literature for people with disabilities and the use of inclusive topics by Ukrainian publishers. The results were obtained due to the theoretical comprehension of the empirical materials, which were based on a survey of 42 operating various domestic publishing houses. The vast majority of them expressed an understanding of the importance of publishing literature about people with disabilities and accessible editions for them. One-third of those surveyed publishers have experience in publishing inclusive literature. About 24% of respondents have books in accessible formats. They mainly used such publishing or engineering technologies as books with large print, picture-books, and books with pictograms. The study also found that among a few current insurmountable restraining factors of development of inclusive literature is the commercial inexpediency of such projects. The results of this study will contribute to the formation of collective public opinion on the importance of inclusive literature and, consequently, the attraction of the financing of inclusive publications of patrons, sponsors, crowdfunding platforms, etc.

Abstract:
The paper explores the actual features of the historical and literary context of book culture in Finland in Russian. On the example of the publishing house "Biblion" (1919-1921) the information is provided that contributes to the study of the publishing activities of foreign organizations, subjects of Sweden and Finland, contributing to the appearance of books of fiction by many Russian authors, the most famous of which during this period were Leonid Andreev and Alexander Kuprin. For a more complete presentation of the issue of the development of Russian book publishing between 1919 and 1921, it is necessary to know not only about trends on a national scale, to see the features of the development of book publishing in the regions, but also to take into account the specifics of the work of publishing houses and publishing activities of Russian abroad. The relevance of the issue is confirmed by the lack of domestic studies on the topic of publishing Russian literature abroad. The results of the work can be used in teaching courses on literature and culture of the Russian abroad countries, the history of Russian literature of the 1/3 of the XX century, studies of regional literature, with the refinement and addition of biobibliographies, bibliographies, catalogs, encyclopedias, other publications of Russian literature abroad.

Abstract:
Since the late 1990s and particularly after 2000, Romani literature has been characterized in part by the influence of international and global developments within the Romani movement as well as the growth of digital technologies and the internet. Romani publications are going digital in different formats, including the digitization of public domain materials, e-books, audiobooks, internet publishing and social media publishing. This article discusses how digital technologies have been incorporated in Romani literature production and proposes a typology of the digital forms of Romani literature. It also provides an analysis of the issues and challenges that are observed in Romani digital publishing, some of which are specifically related to this type of publishing, while others apply to Romani literature in general.

Abstract:
Publishing the results of research is the final outcome of a research paper - what has not been published is considered not to have existed. The aim of publishing research is to promote an original idea or to improve existing ideas, with the use of reliable sources. When writing different types of publications (research and professional papers, doctoral theses, books, etc.) it is necessary to state the sources that the ideas or text related to that publication were taken from. Science did not start with the authors of any individual research paper nor will it end with them - whatever the topic of the research is, there is a high probability that someone has already written something about it. If other authors' ideas or text are used in one's research, this must be stated in the text of that research. The standardized method of referring to sources is citing. Sources are cited in three ways: by quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing. Citing sources may be direct and indirect. Sources may be referred to in the text (citing), at the end of the page (footnote), or at the end of the paper (endnote). Different sources may be cited: books, scientific journals, pictures, videos, audio sources, etc. The basic citation unit is a reference. Software for reference management enables the authors of publications to gather and organize references, insert quotes into the text, and create a bibliography. There are many such different programs. Some can be used free of charge (Mendeley, Zotero), while others must be purchased (EndNote). With the development of Internet technology, this type of software is also developing new functions in order to facilitate cooperation and networking amongst researchers, as well as to assist in the development of academic social networks. Accurate citing ensures the integrity of existing scientific knowledge that is being presented, it contributes to the reputation of a scientific journal and strengthens the credibility of the author and the research itself.

Abstract:
This paper explores the dynamics of publishing of non-Russian Soviet literatures in Soviet Estonia, establishing the output of titles and the most popular source literatures. The analysis follows the position of Soviet national literatures during four periods in political history: the Stalinist years, the Thaw, Stagnation, and Perestroika. The study uses statistical yearbooks, bibliographies, archival material, as well as research literature as sources. The publishing of Soviet literature was strongly regulated by the publishing authorities and dependent on ideological directions. The analysis demonstrates that the proportion of the non-Russian Soviet literatures started to increase during the Thaw period, but the peak of its production was reached during the 1970s and the beginning of the 1980s due to official pressure. The total number of source literatures was 49, demonstrating the diversity of translation production, although they were represented equally. The top source literatures were Latvian, Lithuanian, and Ukrainian. The interest of the literary circles and reading audiences in the translations was rather weak, although the top authors attracted the attention of the more intellectual segment of readers.

Abstract:
Background: Predatory publishing is an exploitative fraudulent open-access publishing model. Most predatory journals do not follow policies that are set forth by organizations including the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Council of Science Editors (CSE), and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Jeffrey Beall, an associate professor at the University of Colorado Denver and a librarian at Auraria Library, coined the term ‘predatory journals’ to describe pseudo-journals. Our literature review has highlighted that predatory journal authorship is not limited to early-career researchers only. Majority of authors are unfamiliar with practices in pseudo journals despite publishing manuscripts. Methodology: For the purpose of this review, a systematic literature search was carried in October 2019 of the following databases: (1) Web of Science (all databases), (2) ERIC, and (3) LISTA. All stages of the review process included access to the search results and full articles for review and consequent analysis. Articles were added after screening fulltext articles by meeting the inclusion criteria and meeting none of the exclusion criteria. As there were a high number of articles reporting findings on predatory journals, they were further screened re-evaluating them for any deviations from the theme of this study. Relevant material published within the last five years was used. Results: After a thorough review, 63,133 were located using the Boolean logic. After reviewing 63 abstracts and titles for relevance, 9 articles were included in the literature review. Four themes are concerned with the results of the synthesis that demarcate legitimate and predatory publications. They include factors: (1) Related to the journal, (2) Academic and professional, (3) Dissemination, and (4) Personal. Conclusion: Our literature review found that there is a lack of one single definition for predatory journals. We believe that it is essential for potential authors and young researchers to have clear guidelines and make demarcations of potential journals that seem dubious. Moreover, the authors’ selection of publishers should be modified to control the risks of tainting ‘open-access’ publishing with fraudulent journals. The academic and research community ought to revise their criteria and recognize high quality and author journals as opposed to ‘predatory’ journals. Research mentorship, realigning research incentives, and education is vital to decrease the impact of predatory publishing in the near future.

Lee, Yu-Ching. "Transformations and Mutations of the Chinese Language Publishing Field in the Digital Age." MANUSYA 18, no. 2 (2015): 92–112. http://dx.doi.org/10.1163/26659077-01802005.

Full text
Abstract:
In the traditional publishing arena, the publishing fields around the world all operate according to a fixed value chain system, which has been in operation ever since the existence of the publishing industry over 500 years. Now the publishing industry is going through a transition period toward digitization, which has overwhelmed not only the entire system but the entire publishing field. In this digital age, publishing houses in the West have carried on with their conventional model of value chains and have established a comprehensive digital publishing system. But in Chinesespeaking regions, due to factors such as market traits, consumer reading habits, publishing policies and consumption habits which are vastly different from those in the West, the Western system of digital publishing is not applicable. This study analyzes the Chinese language publishing field by interviewing Cross- Straits publishing experts. The aim is to examine the differences between the publishing structure of Chinese-speaking regions (specifically mainland China and Taiwan), the typical publishing field in the West, and the traditional paper-based publishing field which has existed for hundreds of years. The result shows that Taiwan follows the Western e-publishing model. However, because of the differences in market size and reading habits, the e-publishing model is not applicable in Taiwan. China, on the other hand, has developed its own system called “Internet Literature” in accordance with readers’ reading preferences and habits. Moreover, this model uses the intellectual property to extend the value of publications by transforming literature texts into other forms of cultural production. This publishing business model is carried out by big Internet companies such as Tencent, Baidu, rather than by publishers. These mutations of Internet literature content have really challenged the Chinese state-regulated publishing system, and have become the foundations of a successful business model. This development in China has challenged the conventional definition of publishing, as literature has been a symbol of highbrow civilization whereas Internet Literature is more a symbol of uncultured entertainment.

Abstract:
The dual goals of efficiency and effectiveness when writing a literature review are considered. Effectiveness is concerned with producing a synthesis of the published knowledge. A systematic approach to reviewing is at best a partial approach to efficiency because the foundations of the academic publishing system are rigidly locked into old technology. An outline for redesigning academic publishing to jump literature reviewing efficiency to a new level and enhance the productivity of many other aspects of scholarship is proposed.

In this essay Kenner meditates on the past, present, and future of university publishers and scholarly publishing. He reflects in particular on the financial pressures resulting from changes in tax laws that have contributed to the decline of the scholarly monograph, and he considers as well the pressures generated by the development of online publication. He further tells cautionary tales, from his own experience, that underscore how important it is that the public stewards of scholarship and literature at academic presses not make hasty decisions about what titles to publish and what to prune from their backlists.

Abstract:
The study examines the newspaper company „Radikal“, which is founded in 1914 and declares bankruptcy in 1939 in the wake of WWII and the major transitions in Bulgaria during that time. The company’s final end comes in 1953. There are no studies in the journalistic literature that examine „Radikal“ in detail, so this study aims to fill this gap by tracing and evaluating the company’s activities. The study uses a chronological approach and content analysis and is based on archival sources that have not been previously used in the scientific literature, as well as on newspaper sources and other references from the journalistic and historic literature. The study concludes that „Radikal“ presents a good example of a successful party-associated newspaper publishingcompany, which is why it left a significant mark on the newspaper industry in the history of the Bulgarian Kingdom.

Abstract:
Abstract This essay is a response to the eight essays collected under the title “Literature and Publishing, 1945–2020.” In this response, I consider the timing of such a collection: Why publishing now? Why should we be reimagining literary history through the lens of publishing at this particular moment? I suggest that we can only fully grapple with the relationship between literary studies and publishing in the present moment by attending to the relationship between literary studies and the university. In the midst of twin labor crises inflected and exacerbated by questions of race, class, and gender, we must recognize the parallel conditions of those working in publishing and those working in higher education. This project’s timely interest in the institutions that shape the contemporary literary field—publishers, agencies, distributors, prizes, etc.—comes as our toehold on our own institutions (that is, the endurance and relative autonomy of university literature departments) seems increasingly tenuous.

Abstract:
Abstract This article is a presentation of the general framework of a research project in which 56 translated and 94 non-translated books published for children in Argentina during 1997 are analyzed. In the project, the translated books are compared with the non-translated ones from paratextual, literary and linguistic viewpoints. Translation is considered to be a decision-making process and the broad approach proposed here makes possible a comparison of the decisions taken by publishers and translators in different areas and, most importantly, to the interrelations of these decisions. The results will increase the general knowledge of translation for children and of literature published for children in an Argentinean context. Moreover, they will be of importance for methodological issues such as the selection of corpora.

Abstract:
In the history of mankind, translation has played an important role in popularizing the individual achievements of different civilizations among other nations. This rings true about the Chinese translated literature in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian translated literature in China. The article focuses on individual books as it is extremely challenging to include in this collection the translations published in magazines and newspapers. The translation of Chinese and Bulgarian literature had prolific periods marked by significant accomplishments. It is worth looking back at those works on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Bulgaria. Both the translation of Chinese literature in Bulgaria and the translation of Bulgarian literature in China are taken into consideration, paying specific attention to the main titles, authors and their publication. The publishing houses specializing in culture and art in the two countries occupy the larger part of the book market. It may be concluded that all these translations tend to give spiritual food to the Chinese and Bulgarian readers. Although they introduce the people to a different tradition, culture and civilization, the choice of the main themes can be interpreted as a sign of a common taste for values and beauty.

Abstract:
In article the insufficiently known aspect of Mychajlo Rudnytskyi activity is covered: his publishing projects. The history of M. Rudnytskyi’s formation as a publisher, his cooperation with the Polish bookstore Bernard Polonecki, as well as with the Kyiv publishers are considered. The period of M. Rudnytskyi’s publishing activity in Kyiv was studied, in particular, on the materials of his correspondence with M. Zerov. M. Rudnytskyi’s views on the Ukrainian publishing process of the interwar period, its current state, tasks and prospects are analyzed; in particular, the orientation of Rudnytskyi’s publishing projects to the popular, or, more precisely, to the commercial aspects of the publishing repertoire. The focus is on cooperation with the publishing house Izmarahd, in particular with the publisher Mychajlo Matchak. The article examines Mychajlo Matchak’s publishing views, his way of implementing a non-profit publishing project so that it becomes profitable and financially sustainable. The repertoire of the publishing house and M. Rudnytskyi’s cooperation with this publishing house are analyzed. The article contains also the issues of the implementation of the largescale publishing project «Biblioteka “Dila”», the main editor of which was M. Rudnytskyi: the history and the publishing tradition of Dilo magazine, the concept of this publishing series, the organizer, the financial director responsible for publishing stability and commercial success of which was Dmytro Levytskyi. The repertoire for the two sections of the series is analyzed: the section of original works of contemporary Ukrainian literature and the section of translations of world literature. The article contains materials of interest to researchers of the book and publishing process of the interwar period, as well as to historians of literature and translation scholars. Abstract:
The use of computational methods to develop innovative forms of storytelling and poetry has gained traction since the late 1980s. At the same time, legacy publishing has largely migrated to using digital workflows. Despite this possible convergence, the electronic literature community has generally defined their practice in opposition to print and traditional publishing practices more generally. Not only does this ignore a range of hybrid forms, but it also limits non-digital literature to print, rather than considering a range of physical literatures. In this article, I argue that it is more productive to consider physical and digital literature as convergent forms as both a historicizing process, and a way of identifying innovations. Case studies of William Gibson et al.’s Agrippa ( A Book of the Dead) and Christian Bök’s The Xenotext Project’s playful use of innovations in genetics demonstrate the productive tensions in the convergence between digital and physical literature.

Abstract:
Children’s and youth literature in new China The author describes the difficult beginnings of publishing in new China, a country devastated in large part by the Japanese occupation and civil war. Publishing houses of all types were then scattered over a huge territory and very few. This was particularly the case for publishing children’s and youth literature. Despite this difficult situation, as early as the end of 1950, the first specialized publishing house for children and youth audiences was established in Shanghai. The author shows the difficult further way of building a large publishing movement and institutions cooperating with it, which specialized in work for children and youth audiences. It indicates the role of the publishing movement in expanding the education of children and young people in China. It signals the collapse of an excellent business in the gloomy period of the cultural revolution, and then shows a gradual rebirth, and then, again, the dynamic development of the industry in the early 1980s in connection with the implementation of the “reform and opening up” policy. An important stage in this dynamic development was the formation of a new media group aimed at children and youth audiences in 2000 – the Chinese youth and children’s information and publishing cooperative. This has led to the creation of similar media groups throughout China. Over 70 years of operation, new China has made tremendous progress in the field of children’s and youth literature and publishing. Interestingly, this process, especially in the initial period, was carried out in cooperation with its counterpart in Poland. Many Polish books for young Chinese readers have appeared on the Chinese market and this phenomenon continues to be beneficial for both sides.

Abstract:
Abstract Launched in 1999, at a time of radical change for the publishing industry, Persephone Books has become a successful independent publisher of neglected female authors mainly from the 20th-century inter-war period. Publishing being an industry primarily shaped by the differential distribution of symbolic and economic capital (Bourdieu, ‘The Market for Symbolic Goods’, in The Rules of Art, Polity Press, 1996, p. 9), competing principles of cultural legitimacy within an increasingly commercial climate clarify the position of modern publishing at the intersection of culture and commerce (Bourdieu, The Field of Cultural Production, Columbia University Press, 1993, p. 27). This article explores how Persephone Books’ understated assertion of publishing’s ‘middle ground’ and commitment to the historically reviled ‘middlebrow’ genre have reconciled the perennial tension between culture and commerce to create a thriving yet unintentional publishing brand.
