Abstract:
Abstract The reactions of N-alkyl-N′-picolyl-benzimidazolium bromides or N,N′-dipicolyl-benzimidazolium bromide with silver oxide yielded the silver dicarbene complexes of the type [Ag(NHC)2][AgBr2] 1–4 (NHC = picoline-functionalized benzimidazolin-2-ylidene). The silver complexes 1–4 have been used in carbene transfer reactions to yield the gold(I) complexes of the type [AuCl(NHC)] 5–8 in good yields. A halide exchange at the metal center of complexes 5–8 with lithium bromide yielded the gold bromide complexes 9–12. Finally, the oxidation of the gold(I) centers in complexes 9–12 with elemental bromine gave the gold(III) complexes of the type [AuBr3(NHC)] 13–16. Molecular structures of selected Au(I) and Au(III) complexes have been determined by X-ray diffraction studies.

Abstract:
The processes of air cooling at the gas turbine unit inlet by absorption lithium-bromide chiller have been analyzed. The computer programs of firms-producers of heat exchangers were used for the gas turbine unit inlet air cooling processes simulation. The absorption lithium-bromide chiller refrigeration capacity reserve (the design heat load excess over the current heat loads) generated at the reduced current heat loads on the air coolers at the gas turbine unit inlet in accordance with the lowered ambient air parameters has been considered. The absorption lithium-bromide chiller refrigeration capacity reserve is expedient to use at increased heat load on the air cooler. To solve this problem the refrigeration capacity required for cooling air at the gas turbine unit inlet has been compared with the excessive absorption lithium-bromide chiller refrigeration capacity exceeding current heat loads during July 2017.The scheme of gas turbine unit inlet air cooling system with using the absorption lithium-bromide chiller refrigeration capacity reserve has been proposed. The proposed air cooling system provides gas turbine unit inlet air precooling in the air cooler booster stage by using the absorption lithium-bromide chiller excessive refrigeration capacity. The absorption chiller excessive refrigeration capacity generated during decreased heat loads on the gas turbine unit inlet air cooler is accumulated in the thermal storage. The results of simulation show the expediency of the gas turbine unit inlet air cooling by using the absorption lithium-bromide chiller refrigeration capacity reserve, which is generated at reduced thermal loads, for the air precooling in the air cooler booster stage. This solution provides the absorption lithium-bromide chiller installed (designed) refrigeration capacity and cost reduction by almost 30%. The solution to increase the efficiency of gas turbine unit inlet air cooling through using the absorption chiller excessive refrigeration potential accumulated in the thermal storage has been proposed.

Endogenous bromine has been found to be raised during lithium treatment, and it has been suggested that it may augment the therapeutic effect of lithium. Our findings in a study of 12 patients and 12 controls support this contention. Electroencephalographic effects of bromine, vanadium and aluminium were studied – higher bromine and vanadium levels were associated with irregular cortical activity. Electroencephalographic abnormalities were associated with more side-effects of lithium.

Based on the structure and characteristic of automotive refrigeration system and engine circulation cooling water system and exhausted waste heat system, combing the working principle of lithium bromide absorption refrigeration system, the authors used the automotive exhaust pipe and cooling water tank improved as the generator of the lithium bromide absorption refrigeration system, which might realize the objective using the lithium bromide absorption hot-cold water unit to replace the automobile air conditioning refrigeration and heating system and the automobile engine cooling system. The methods of the thermodynamics, the heat transfer, the hydrodynamics are used to do the computation of the thermodynamic and the heat transfer area of the lithium bromide absorption refrigeration system. The result shows that it makes good use of exhausted heat of engine circulation cooling water and exhausted waste and reduces the consumption of oil. And structure is simple and compact for small heat transfer area of the automotive exhaust pipe and cooling water tank improved.

For lithium halides, LiX (X = Cl, Br and I), hydrates with a water content of 1, 2, 3 and 5 moles of water per formula unit are known as phases in aqueous solid–liquid equilibria. The crystal structures of the monohydrates of LiCl and LiBr are known, but no crystal structures have been reported so far for the higher hydrates, apart from LiI·3H2O. In this study, the crystal structures of the di- and trihydrates of lithium chloride, lithium bromide and lithium iodide, and the pentahydrates of lithium chloride and lithium bromide have been determined. In each hydrate, the lithium cation is coordinated octahedrally. The dihydrates crystallize in the NaCl·2H2O or NaI·2H2O type structure. Surprisingly, in the tri- and pentahydrates of LiCl and LiBr, one water molecule per Li+ ion remains uncoordinated. For LiI·3H2O, the LiClO4·3H2O structure type was confirmed and the H-atom positions have been fixed. The hydrogen-bond networks in the various structures are discussed in detail. Contrary to the monohydrates, the structures of the higher hydrates show no disorder.

Abstract:
Lithium carbonate is a medication used for the management of various mental disorders. The present report describes a case of prolongation of rocuronium bromide in a patient concurrently taking lithium carbonate. A 64-year-old woman was scheduled to undergo cystectomy under general anesthesia. The patient took lithium carbonate (600 mg/d) for treatment of bipolar affective disorder. General anesthesia was induced with propofol, fentanyl, remifentanil, and sevoflurane. After loss of consciousness, rocuronium bromide (50 mg) was administered, and the trachea was intubated. Approximately 1 hour after the administration of rocuronium, the degree of residual muscle relaxant was evaluated using a nerve stimulation device. No muscle contraction occurred with train-of-four (TOF) stimulation. Following administration of sugammadex (200 mg) the TOF ratio increased to 95%. The ionic size of lithium is similar to that of sodium; therefore, lithium is transported into the cell with sodium. The resting membrane potential decreases, leading to a reduction in the height of the action potential. Thus, the effect of the remaining lithium may have been superimposed on the rocuronium neuromuscular blockade. Evaluation with a nerve stimulation device in patients taking lithium is crucial before extubation because of the risk of rocuronium potentiation.

Abstract:
L'objectif de ce travail de thèse était de concevoir une thermofrigopompe opérant jusqu'à 240°C au désorbeur et produisant au condenseur de 13: chaleur utile à 160°C, destinée à être associée à une frigopompe de type commercial, pour la climatisation de bâtiment. Le fonctionnement jusqu'à 240°C est réalisé grâce à l'emploi de graphite impregné, résistant au phénomène de corrosion par la solution de bromure de lithium. Une part importante de ce travail a été l'extension aux hautes températures des données thermodynamiques des solutions aqueuses de bromure de lithium qui n'étaient disponibles qu'à basses températures (<160°C). Les diagrammes thermodynamiques ainsi établis ont été utilisés pour effectuer l'analyse détaillée des divers composants de la thermofrigopompe. Plus généralement, un chapitre est consacré à l'analyse exergétique des divers procédés de séparation et de mélangeage, en utilisant un modèle thermodynamique qui permet de représenter les propriétés thermodynamiques de la solution aqueuse de bromure de lithium. Enfin le travail expérimental a porté sur l'étude des performances d'un désorbeur diabatique en graphite, et d'un désorbeur adiabatique de type nouveau.

Les machines à absorption LiBr/H2O, appliquées aux systèmes de rafraîchissement par compression chimique présentent des avantages et des inconvénients à l'heure de leur intégration dans des bâtiments de basse consommation. Grandes tailles et coûts de mise en œuvre élevés les rendent peu attractives. Le développement de modules évapo-absorbeur et desorb-condenseur compacts et multifonctionnels, utilisant des échangeurs à film ruisselants couplés peuvent être une solution pour réduire les coûts de mise en œuvre, et augmenter la compacité et le rendement global du processus d'absorption. L'étude se centre autour de l'absorption de la vapeur d'eau à basse pression au sein d'un film de bromure de lithium qui ruisselle sur des échangeurs à plaques verticales. Les objectifs de la thèse sont le développement d'un modèle théorique simple décrivant le transfert de chaleur et de masse et sa validation à l'aide d'expériences de référence. Le modèle analytique est construit à l'aide des méthodes intégrales mettant en ouvre un écoulement laminaire établit à l'entrée de l'absorbeur et des conditions de saturation à l'interface Nous avons résolu le problème couplé de transfert de masse et de chaleur en prenant en compte couches limites thermiques et diffusives. Une représentation adimensionnelle des transferts à l'aide des nombres de Nusselt et de Sherwood en fonction du nombre de Graetz permet de décrire de manière générale les différentes zones thermiques et diffusives. Les variations de la température et la concentration à l'interface sont prises en compte, en considérant la linéarité des équations de transfert et, en appliquant la théorie des perturbations. Un banc d'essais a été spécifiquement développé pour l'étude de l'absorption de vapeur sur des films ruisselants de bromure de lithium à basse Reynolds (Re < 500). Il permet de fixer l'état de la solution LiBr à l'entrée (température, concentration et débit) ainsi que les conditions aux limites (pression de vapeur, condition adiabatique ou de température imposée à la paroi verticale). Différentes géométries de plaque sont comparées aux résultats du model en vu de quantifier l'impact des effets de bord et des instabilités.

Abstract:
La climatisation automobile est un enjeu majeur pour les constructeurs automobiles dans la mesure où elle occasionne un rejet de 10 g de CO2 par km, une surconsommation énergétique de près de 5 % et sera pris en compte dans le bilan MEVG à l'horizon 2020. Dans cette perspective, le constructeur automobile PSA Peugeot Citroën a développé un nouveau procédé : la climatisation par absorption de vapeur d'eau par une solution saline de bromure de lithium, qui marque la rupture avec le système classique à compression de vapeur. Le travail mené dans ce manuscrit s'est focalisé au niveau de l'organe principal du système, l'évaporateur/absorbeur où les deux fluides s'écoulent et sont confinés chacun entre deux grilles tissées par des effets capillaires. Les transferts de masse et de chaleur qui s'y produisent, ont lieu à l'interface liquide/vapeur formée par des ménisques de forme complexe qui constituent la surface de d'échange. L'objectif est d'intensifier les transferts de masse et de chaleur qui diffuse à travers l'interface. Un banc expérimental permettant la description tridimensionnelle de la forme des ménisques au moyen de la microscopie confocale a été développé. Le modèle « volume of fluid » a été utilisé pour la reconstruction numérique de l'interface liquide/ vapeur. La comparaison entre les données expérimentales et les simulations numériques a montré un bon accord. Ces simulations montrent que l'écoulement est influencé par la grille avec la création de zones mortes et des mouvements de vorticité. Une optimisation numérique a été menée avec comme fonction objectif le flux qui diffuse à travers l'interface. Celle-ci a permis de définir des paramètres optimales de la grille permettant d’atteindre un flux de chaleur de près de 2,5 fois supérieur à celui du cas de référence. Cette optimisation a permis l'identification d'une zone préférentielle dans laquelle les transferts de chaleur sont maxima. Le travail a aussi abordé l'influence de la forme des fils et de la forme des ménisques, montrant qu'il est préférable d’adopter des matériaux à caractère hydrophobe avec des fils à section circulaire<br>Abstract The automotive air conditioning is a major challenge for the automotive manufacturers insofar it causes a release of 10 g/CO2/km, engenders an extrafuel consumption of 5 % and will be taken into account in the balance sheet in 2020 MEVG. In this perspective, the automotives constructor PSA Peugeot Citroën has developed a new process, absorption air conditioning of water vapor by lithium bromide solution, which marks a break with the classic vapor-compression system. This manuscript is focused at the main body of the system, an innovative evaporator/absorber where both fluids are flowing down and confined between two finely meshed plastic wire screens and maintained between them by capillary effects. The heat and mass transfers in this system occur at the liquid/vapour interface formed by complex menisci that represent the surface of transfer. An experimental test bench allowing the description of three-dimensional shape of menisci using confocal microscopy has been carried. The volume of fluid model has been used for the numerical reconstruction of the liquid/vapour interface. The comparison between numerical and experimental data has shown a good agreement. Numerical simulations have shown that the flow is influenced by the geometry that promotes the creation of stagnant layer solution and vorticity zones. A numerical optimization has been carried with as objective function the heat rate that di uses through the interface. This one has allowed to get out the optimal parameters allowing to have an heat rate of more than 2.5 times higher compared to the reference case. This optimization has highlighted a preferential zone in which heat transfers are maximum. The work has also dealt with the e ect of the shape of the wires and the effect of the shape of menisci on the transfer, showing that it is preferable to work with hydrophobic materials and with cylindrical wires

Ce travail présente l'étude expérimentale du transfert thermique et de l'hydraulique de films ruisselants de solution aqueuse de LiBr sur une paroi verticale garnie de promoteurs de turbulence ou sur une paroi lisse spiralée à faible pente. Les parois sont en graphite à cause de la corrosion. Le régime hydraulique est laminaire, les régimes thermiques sont l'échauffement et l'évaporation. Pour les deux géométries, les films ruissellent avec des sections d'épaisseur non-uniformes, mais stables et constantes le long de l'écoulement. Ceci est du à l'effet Marangoni pour l'écoulement rectiligne et à la force centrifuge dans l'écoulement spirale. Des modélisations simples permettent de retrouver de manière qualitative le comportement expérimental atypique de ces films. Une modélisation globale est proposée pour permettre un classement des différents types d'évaporateur à film ruisselant sur des critères de puissance thermique, taux d'évaporation et encombrement.

Abstract:
La climatisation par absorption est un système de production de froid tritherme énergétiquement intéressant. La compression mécanique intervenant au sein des systèmes classiques à compression de vapeur (premier poste de consommation énergétique) est remplacée par une compression dite thermochimique nécessitant un apport de chaleur important. Dans le cas d'une application automobile il est possible de faire fonctionner le système grâce aux pertes thermiques du moteur. La climatisation par absorption est à l'étude au sein du service R&amp;D du fabricant d'automobiles PSA Peugeot Citroën depuis une décennie. L'innovation majeure de PSA concerne l’évaporateur/absorbeur : un nouveau système basé sur le confinement du réfrigérant et de la solution absorbante à l'intérieur de structures capillaires a été breveté. Ce nouveau système a pour but d'éviter le mélange intempestif des fluides. L'analyse expérimentale de cet évaporateur/absorbeur a montré que la puissance frigorifique est limitée par le phénomène d'absorption. Il a été prouvé que l'effet frigorifique produit par le système est égal à un tiers de l'effet maximal qui pourrait théoriquement être réalisé. Un modèle simple de la zone d'absorption est proposé, il fournit une ligne directrice pour améliorer la conception du composant. Une revue de la littérature a montré que les modèles d'absorption sont basés sur des hypothèses dont la fiabilité n'est pas évidente. Aussi, la plupart des auteurs considèrent que les propriétés thermophysiques sont constantes. Cette hypothèse a été étudiée dans le cas simple de l'absorption statique. La modélisation des transferts simultanés de chaleur et de masse au sein de la solution absorbante nécessite de prendre en compte l'augmentation de volume de cette dernière. Les équations régissant les transferts ont été résolues par la méthode des volumes finis, sur un maillage dynamique. Deux procédures pour la déformation du maillage ont été mises en oeuvre et comparées. Les résultats numériques ont été comparés aux résultats expérimentaux obtenus sur un banc développé dans le cadre de ce travail et aux données expérimentales issues de la littérature. Enfin, l'impact des gaz incondensables sur le taux d'absorption a été étudié numériquement et expérimentalement, dans le cas de l'absorption statique. Cette étude a permis de confirmer les phénomènes à l'origine de la diminution du taux d'absorption. Cependant, l'effet de la gravité sur l'impact des gaz incondensables n'a pas pu être clarifié avec certitude<br>Automotive air conditioning systems are based on the vapour compression cycle that requires mechanical energy for its operation. This mechanical energy is provided by the engine, which engenders year-averaged fuel extra consumptions, and thereby extra pollutant emissions, of the order of 5 %. Absorption cooling technology is of interest as this system could be driven by the engine waste heat.The absorption air conditioning technology has been under the scope of the R&amp;D services of the french manufacturer PSA Peugeot Citroën for a decade. PSA's major innovation concerns the evaporator/absorber: a new system based on the confinement inside capillary structures of refrigerant and absorbent falling films has been patented. This new layout aims at avoiding unwanted mixing of the fluids. Experimental analysis of this original component has shown that the refrigerating effect is limited by the absorption phenomenon. It was proved that the refrigerating effect produced by the system is equal to one third of the maximal effect that could be achieved. A simple model of the absorption part has been proposed. It provides a guideline to improve the design of the component. A literature review has revealed that the absorption models are based on assumptions whose reliability is not obvious. Especially, most of the authors assume that the thermophysical properties are constant. The impact of this assumption has been clarified in the simple case of pool absorption. Modeling the simultaneous heat and mass transfer that takes place in the liquid absorbent requires to account for the increase of the liquid volume. This was achieved by means of a finite-volume treatment of the governing equations over a dynamic grid. Two procedures for the grid deformation have been implemented and compared. The numerical results have been compared to experimental results obtained on a bench developed on purpose and to experimental data from the literature. Finally, the impact of the non-absorbable gases on the absorption rate has been investigated numerically and experimentally, in the pool absorption case. This study enabled to confirm the phenomena at the origin of the decrease of the absorption rate. However, we could not clarify with certainty the importance of gravity-driven flows in the vapour phase, in the presence of non-absorbable gases

Abstract:
Le présent travail est une contribution à l'étude des pompes à chaleur à absorption. Nous nous sommes intéressés en particulier à l'hydrodynamique et au transfert de chaleur par la technique du film ruisselant. Cette étude nous a permis de concevoir et développer des nouvelles structures d'évaporateurs et désorbeurs à ailettes spiralées internes et externes en graphite pouvant résister de manière significative à la corrosion des couples de travail utilisés dans des pompes à chaleur à absorption à des températures de l'ordre de 230°C de pressions de l'ordre de 6 à 7 bar. Le premier chapitre présente une analyse bibliographique et une étude expérimentale de l'hydrodynamique d'un film ruisselant sur des contacteurs gaz-liquide de différentes structures. Le deuxième chapitre repose sur une étude expérimentale du transfert de chaleur en échauffement d'un tube en graphite à ailette spiralée externe. Nous comparons notamment ces résultats à ceux des modèles existants. Dans le quatrième chapitre nous abordons la modélisation et le calcul d'une frigopompe utilisant le binaire eau-bromure de lithium. Nous présentons les résultats obtenus en échauffement et en évaporation sur le banc d'essais d'un désorbeur-condenseur qui peut être une des bases pour la conception d'une pompe à chaleur à absorption à trois effets. Enfin dans le cinquième chapitre nous présentons les diagrammes enthalpiques, entropiques et exergétiques calculés pour le couple eau-bromure de lithium qui peuvent être utiles pour une analyse entropique et exergétique des irréversibilités dans les processus de séparation et de mélangeage

Abstract:
Ce travail porte sur l'étude de la capacité des 3-aminopyrrolidines (3-AP) chirales et de leurs amidures à former des complexes non-covalents avec des énolates de lithium dérivés de cyclohexanones engagés dans la réaction de protonation énantiosélective. Après une introduction portant sur les diverses méthodes d'obtention de molécules optiquement actives, un petit historique puis une bibliographie de la réaction de protonation énantiosélective sont présentes. Puis nous présentons la bibliographie de la synthèse de ces 3-AP ainsi qu'une méthode précédemment développée au laboratoire à partir de la transhydroxy-(L)-proline naturelle, et les développements apportés à cette chimie dans la perspective d'une synthèse à plus grande échelle. Une deuxième méthode d'obtention des 3-AP est également présente à partir d'un intermédiaire clé dont la synthèse avait été précédemment décrite dans la littérature. Ces 3-AP secondaires ont ensuite été mis en présence d'énolates de lithium de cétones. Trois types de complexes (amine/énolate : 1/1 ; amidure : énolate : 1/1 ou amine/amidure : énolate 1/1/1) ont été retenus. Pour chacun de ces types nous nous sommes attachés à faire varier quelques-uns des paramètres susceptibles d'influencer l'asymétrie de la réaction de protonation énantiosélective. Dans tous les cas, l'utilisation des 3-AP secondaires en tant que ligand chiral des énolates de lithium dérivés de cyclohéxanones n'a pas permis de relever la moindre induction asymétrique. La protonation par l'acide acétique de l'énolate de lithium de la 2-méthyltétralone en présence d'une 3-AP primaire, la 1-benzyl-3-(S)-aminopyrrolidine, a permis d'obtenir un e. E de 15%. Les meilleurs excès (39%) ont été relevés avec ce même énolate lorsque ce dernier, complexé avec l'amidure de lithium de la 1-benzyle-3-(S)-aminopyrrolidine et deux équivalents de bromure de lithium est protoné par deux équivalents d'acide acétique. Cette réaction est à notre connaissance, la seule impliquant un amidure d'amine primaire et un énolate lors de la protonation énantiosélective. Au cours de ce travail, l'influence directe de la qualité du MeLi. LiBr utilisé pour engendrer l'énolate a également été démontrée. L'étude RMN 13C, 1H, 6Li du complexe MeLi. LiBr a permis de caractériser les différents agrégats formés par le méthyllithium et le bromure de lithium dans le toluène comme étant des tétramères de formule brute (MeLi)4-n(LiBr)n avec n compris entre zéro et quatre. Les populations de ces cinq types de complexes ont également été déterminées.

Abstract:
Le stockage de l'énergie solaire thermique s'avère aujourd'hui nécessaire si on veut atteindre une meilleure efficacité et une utilisation à grande échelle de cette ressource. Le stockage sous forme de potentiel chimique se révèle être adapté au stockage de chaleur sur le long terme (cycles saisonniers ou pluriannuels) parce qu'il présente les moindres pertes thermiques par rapport au stockage sensible ou latent. Malgré les avancées significatives faites ces dernières années dans ce domaine, il n'existe pas aujourd'hui de système achevé dédié à ce type de stockage. Le but du présent travail est de démontrer la faisabilité d'un procédé de stockage de chaleur solaire à long terme par absorption pour le chauffage des bâtiments. La chaleur est stockée en été grâce à la désorption et restituée en hiver à travers l'absorption. Une analyse multicritère portant des couples de sorption possibles a permis d'identifier le couple LiBr−H2O pour la démonstration de faisabilité du concept. Il a été montré que la cristallisation d'une partie de la solution permet de multiplier par trois la densité de stockage énergétique et donc d'améliorer la compétitivité du procédé. Un modèle dynamique a été développé pour dimensionner et simuler les performances du système sous différentes conditions opératoires. De nombreuses simulations paramétriques ont permis de discuter de l'influence de différents paramètres et aspects du contrôle du procédé. Cela a donné lieu à la conception et au dimensionnement d'un prototype de démonstration capable de stocker 8 kWh de chaleur et de produire une puissance moyenne de chauffage de 1 kW. Ce prototype a été construit et expérimenté en fonctionnement statique et dynamique sur un banc d'essai, dans des conditions compatibles avec une installation solaire domestique. La faisabilité de la charge du procédé a ainsi été démontrée. L'absorption durant la phase de décharge est effective bien que des problèmes, dus notamment à une conception inadaptée de l'absorbeur, n'ont pas permis d'assurer la restitution de la chaleur. Différents aspects tels que la stratification et la circulation de la solution dans son réservoir ont également été abordés. La confrontation du modèle et des résultats expérimentaux a ainsi été réalisée et discutée.

Le transfert radiatif dû aux gaz joue un rôle important dans les applications industrielles comme les chambres de combustion, les sciences atmosphériques, etc. Plusieurs modèles ont été proposées pour estimer les propriétés radiatives des gaz. Le plus précis est l'approche dite Raie Par Raie (RPR). Cependant, cette méthode implique un coût de calcul excessif qui la rend inappropriée pour la plupart des applications. Néanmoins, elle reste la méthode de référence que nous utiliserons pour l'évaluation d’autres modèles approchés. Le modèle de coefficient d’absorption corrélé (Ck) est généralement suffisant pour de nombreuses applications. Cette méthode est réputée précise lorsque petits gradients de température sont rencontrés au sein du gaz. Toutefois, si le milieu gazeux est soumis à d'importants gradients de température, la méthode Ck peut conduire à des erreurs qui peuvent atteindre 50% en termes de flux radiatifs par rapport à des simulations de RPR. Le but de cette thèse est de proposer une version améliorée de la méthode Ck, appelée l'approche de coefficient d’absorption corrélé en multi spectral (MSCk). La principale différence entre les modèles Ck et MSCk est que, dans l'approche Ck les intervalles spectraux sur lesquels les propriétés radiatives des gaz sont moyennées sont choisis contiguës alors que, dans l’approche MSCk, ces intervalles sont construits afin d'assurer que le coefficient d'absorption soit corrélé sur ces intervalles. Par conséquent, l'hypothèse de corrélation dans l’approche MSCk est mieux adaptée que dans l’approche Ck. La construction de ces intervalles spectraux (en utilisant la méthode de classification automatique de données fonctionnelles) est détaillée. Cette approche est évaluée par rapport à la référence RPR dans plusieurs cas test. Ces cas traitent de mélanges de gaz (H2O-N2 et H2O-CO2-N2) dans l’intervalle de température [300-3000K]. Les résultats montrent que la méthode MSCk permet d'obtenir de meilleures précisions que les méthodes Ck tout en restant acceptable en termes de coût de calcul<br>Radiative heat transfer of gas plays an important role in industrial applications such as in combustion chambers, atmospheric sciences, etc. Several models [11] have been proposed to estimate the radiative properties of gases. The most accurate one is the Line-By-Line (LBL) approach. However, this technique involves excessive computation cost which makes it inappropriate for most applications. Nevertheless, it remains the reference approach for the assessment of other approximate models. The Correlated k-distribution method (Ck) [11] was shown to be a relevant choice for many applications. This method performs usually well, when only small temperature gradients are involved [21]. However, if the gaseous medium is subject to large temperature gradients, it may lead to errors that can reach 50% in terms of radiative heat fluxes when compared to LBL simulations [21]. The aim of the present paper is to propose an enhanced version of the Ck method, called the Multi-Spectral Correlated k-distribution approach (MSCk). The main difference between Ck and MSCk models is that in the Ck approach spectral intervals over which the radiative properties of the gas are averaged are chosen contiguous whereas, in the MSCk technique, those intervals are built in order to ensure that the absorption coefficient are scaled over them [27]. Accordingly, the usual assumption of correlated spectrum used in k-distribution approaches for the treatment of non uniformities is more acceptable in the MSCk case than in the Ck one. The building of those spectral intervals (using Functional Data Clustering, [52]) is detailed and the approach is assessed against LBL reference data in several test cases. These cases involve H2O-N2 and H2O-CO2-N2 mixtures in the [300-3000K] temperature range. Results show that the MSCk method enables to achieve better accuracies than Ck methods while remaining acceptable in terms of computational cost

Absorption chillers have currently become an important device in saving energy because of its effectiveness in utilizing low grade heat. Lithium bromide is widely used as absorbent in this system. But there were few outstanding concentration measurement methods in practice before. In this paper, complete electrical resistivity data of lithium bromide aqueous solution for concentration measurement was given. The electrical resistivity of lithium bromide aqueous solution was measured at concentrations of 35–70 wt% of lithium bromide and temperatures of 10–100°C. Results of this work can meet the requirement of concentration measurement of lithium bromide in absorption chillers without extracting samples.

Viscosity of the suspension fluid, mixed with nano-particles, is an important thermal-physical parameter in researching the flow pattern and heat transfer properties of the fluid, and is closely related to the stability of mineral suspension. Therefore, it is important to study the varying mechanism of the viscosity of lithium-bromide/water solution added some of nano-particles to enhance their heat transfer. This paper investigated the lithium-bromide/water solution’viscosity after adding dispersant and nano-particles by the rotation method. The influence of different adding nano-material content and various temperatures on the viscosity of lithium-bromide/water solution were discussed reasonably. Finally, the relationship between the viscosity of lithium-bromide/water solution and dispersant, nano-particles addition and applied temperature was made.

Absorption refrigeration systems are generally characterized by low Coefficient of Performance (COP). Absorption enhancement is an effective way of improving the COP of refrigeration systems. Literature is sparse on the use of magnetic field for the enhancement of absorption refrigeration systems despite its cheapness and environmental friendliness as compared with other enhancement methods. Although the method has recently been employed on ammonia solution, its influence on lithium bromide (LiBr) solution is yet to be fully studied. In this paper a numerical model for the magnetic field enhancement in water-LiBr absorption systems was developed and evaluated. The flow within the film thickness to the absorber wall was considered as a two-dimensional steady laminar flow. A Finite Difference model was developed based on conservation of mass, momentum, energy equations and mass transport relationship. The model was validated using data from the literature on ammonia solution. Standard parameters including absorber wall length (1 m), film thickness (10–3 m), magnetic field vacuum permeability (1.257 × 10–6 kgmA-2s2), magnetic mass susceptibilities and magnetic induction intensities were used for LiBr solution’ modeling. Changes in their concentrations, both in the direction of falling film and across its thickness, were investigated. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and Student’s t-test (p = 0.05). The concentration distribution of lithium bromide solution in the direction of falling film was between 54.9% and 60.0% for the magnetic induction range of 0.0 and 3.0 Tesla. Across the film thickness and for the same range of magnetic induction, the concentration distribution was between 0.0 and 0.19. The concentration of the solution increased from 0.0 to 21.7 when magnetic induction was increased from 0.0 to 3.0 Tesla, implying higher cooling effect. The COP of lithium bromide solution absorption refrigeration system was increased by 0.3% for magnetic induction of 3.0 Tesla. Magnetic field enhanced the absorption performance in the lithium bromide solution; hence can be used in typical absorption refrigeration systems.

Gas Turbine (GT) performance seriously deteriorates at increased ambient temperature. This study analyses the possibility of improving GT power output and efficiency by installing a gas turbine inlet air cooling system. Different cooling systems were analyzed and preliminary cost evaluations for each system were carried out. The following three cooling systems were considered in detail: a) Traditional compression cooling system; b) Absorption single-acting cooling system using a solution of lithium bromide; c) Absorption double-acting cooling system using a solution of lithium bromide. Results clearly indicate that there is a great potential for GT performance enhancement by application of an Inlet Air Cooling (IAC). Technical and economical analyses lead to selection of a particular type of IAC for significant savings in capital outlay, operational and maintenance costs and other additional advantages.

Abstract:
The Building Energy Data Book (2009) [1] shows that commercial and residential buildings in the U.S. consume 39.9% of the primary energy and contribute 39% of the total CO2 emissions. In the operation of buildings, 41.8% of building energy consumption is provided for building cooling, heating, domestic hot water, and ventilation for commercial buildings, while in residential buildings, this percentage increases to 58%. In energy system analysis, the energy approach is the traditional method of assessing the way energy is used in an operation. However, an energy balance provides no information on the degradation of energy or resources during a process. The concept of exergy combines the first law and second law of thermodynamics. The exergy analysis clearly quantifies the energy quality match between the supply and demand sides, and also addresses the exergy destruction (entropy generation) in each component. In this paper, a solar thermal driven absorption cooling system was analyzed for providing cooling to a building, the Intelligent Workplace South Zone at Carnegie Mellon University. The system includes a 52 m2 parabolic trough solar collector, and a 16 kW (4 tons) two-stage lithium bromide absorption chiller. The energy model and newly developed two-stage lithium bromide absorption chiller are programmed and integrated in Engineering Equation Solver (EES). The temperature, enthalpy, entropy, mass flow rate, and mass fraction of lithium bromide in the solar absorption system were presented in steady state operation. The exergy destruction in each component is calculated. The exergy destructions for the solar collector, generator, absorber, and heat exchangers were significantly higher than those in evaporator, condenser and expansion valves, the overall energy and exegetic efficiency were also calculated.

In order to investigate the effect of n-decanol, a kind of alcohol surfactants, on the absorption of water vapor into lithium bromide aqueous solution, this study focused on microscopic structure of the liquid-vapor interface of the electrolyte solution, the impact of n-decanol molecules on the interfacial properties and the absorption dynamic process employing the method of molecular dynamics simulation. The liquid-vapor configuration of lithium bromide aqueous solution added with four concentration of n-decanol can be analyzed by examining the density profile, the radial distribution functions and orientational order parameter. The computed results revealed that n-decanol molecules tended to adsorb at the interface with the methyl group pointing into the vapor phase and hydrophilic hydroxyl group pointing into the liquid phase which do much help to form a hydrogen bond network with water, and the tendency of this kind of preferred orientation became distinct with the increase of the amount of n-decanol. The hydrocarbon chains of n-decanol molecules were inclined to close to stay upright near the interface while the monolayer of n-decanol came into being near the interface. Ions were repelled from the surface. The direct interactions between hydroxyl hydrogen of n-decanol and anion exist, and there are much stronger electrostatic interactions between oxygen of n-decanol and cation. The dynamic process of the absorption of water into aqueous electrolyte solution with or without n-decanol was explored by molecular dynamics simulation under non equilibrium conditions. The simulation results showed that in comparison to the lithium bromide aqueous solution without n-decanol, the electrolyte aqueous solution with n-decanol can absorb more water molecules distinctly for 100 ps.

Abstract:
This paper presents an advanced energy cogeneration system that utilizes low temperature waste heat in the range of 60°C to 95°C to produce cold thermal energy storage (TES). Since there is usually a temporal variance between the availability of low temperature waste heat and demand for commercial building air conditioning, a cold TES system is incorporated into this advance energy system. The proposed TES system uses a lithium bromide/water solution both as a refrigerant and as a cold thermal storage material. The cold storage material can be stored at ambient temperature without thermal insulation for an indefinite period of time without losing its charge, making it an ideal system for utilizing peaking system’s low temperature waste heat or to utilize low temperature waste heat during nocturnal operation of continuous generation systems at a time when there are usually low or minimal air conditioning requirements. The heat pump and waste heat is used to recover the thermal storage by reprocessing the stored lithium bromide weak solution to a higher concentration.

Abstract:
In this study, an alternative absorber design suitable for the plate-and-frame absorber configuration is introduced. The design utilizes a fin structure installed on a vertical flat plate to produce a uniform solution film and minimize its thickness and to continuously interrupt the boundary layer. Using numerical models supported by experiments employing dye visualization, the suitable fin spacing and size and wettability are determined. The solution flow thickness is measured using the laser confocal displacement measurement technique. The new surface structure is tested in an experimental absorption system. An absorption rate as high as 6×10−3 kg/m2s at a driving pressure potential of 700 Pa is achieved, which is considerably high in comparison with conventional absorption systems. The effect of water vapor pressure, solution flow rate, solution inlet concentration, cooling water inlet temperature and solution inlet temperature on the absorption rate is also investigated. The proposed design provides a potential framework for development of highly compact absorption refrigeration systems.
