Abstract:
The paper focuses on implications of the EU accession for competitiveness of New Member States, and specifically, Lithuania. Basing on a case study analysis of internationally trading Lithuanian company, effects on its performance, caused by European trade regulation, are being revealed. Authors raise a question whether the EU accession facilitated international trade for newcomers, and if not, what reasons conditioned unfavourable effects. Subjective and objective factors impacting business activity in the after-transition years are being considered.

By contrast, many Estonians worried that the accession would reinforce Estonia's underdevelopment and dependency on the West. Abstract:
In 2012, the European Union Directive (2012/29 EU) was adopted establishing minimum standards on the rights, support and protection of the victims of crime replacing the Council Framework Decision 2001/220/JHA on the standing of victims in criminal proceedings. Both documents are legally binding of the general kind, the first of that kind, when it comes to victims of crime and EU legislation. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the importance of this Directive for promotion of the position and rights of the victim of crime and the necessity for its implementation in national legislation.

Abstract:
In May 2024, the Georgian parliament adopted the law known as the “foreign agent law”, which was followed by a barrage of Western attacks on the Georgian ruling party. The US imposed sanctions on Georgian Dream parliamentarians and Germany effectively froze Georgia’s EU accession. The Hungarian government, on the other hand, has expressed its support for the Tbilisi administration and vetoed a unified EU statement of condemnation on Georgia. However, even the Presidency of the EU Council is not enough to launch accession negotiations, thus Budapest can only offer alternative support to the EU

Abstract:
Bilateral disputes between European Union member states and candidate countries are one of the key obstacles to EU enlargement. They have been plaguing the EU accession process ever since the breakup of Yugoslavia and the subsequent border dispute between EU member Slovenia and candidate country Croatia which then ensued. More recently we have the case of North Macedonia. It became a candidate country in 2005 but ever since, its accession negotiations have been bogged down by endless bilateral disputes. While the case of North Macedonia and its decades long conflicts with Greece and Bulgaria a

In the aftermath of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, enlargement has shot to the top of the EU’s agenda. However, the accession policy is hardly fit for purpose. With EU Member States now exerting control over the enlargement process – exploiting it for their own benefits as and when necessary – they undermine both the accession principles and general Union objectives, as set out in the Lisbon Treaty. The disjuncture between the enlargement policy and geopolitical realities leaves aspiring states (especially those from Eastern Europe) in a precarious limbo. We offer a set of essential

The aim of present study is to provide a concise review of Serbia’s military neutrality, both the conditions of its “genesis” in 2007 and its “operationalization” in form of strategic documents and military cooperation during the period of Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) government (2012-2021), with special emphasis on the presidency of Aleksandar Vučić (2017-2021). The paper concluded that the “genesis” and maintenance of Serbian neutrality is due to both internal political considerations, as well as Serbian diplomatic exigencies with regards to the unresolved status of Kosovo. Abstract:
In the wake of Russia’s full- scale invasion of Ukraine, European Union (EU) member states have taken decisions that have shifted the focus of civilian Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) more firmly to its Eastern Neighbourhood. This shift has raised the geopolitical profile and relevance of civilian CSDP, but it has also increased the stakes. Although civilian CSDP has become more geopolitical, it has not necessarily become more strategic, as decision making and action remain ad hoc and reactive. This raises questions about the EU’s capacity to use civilian CSDP more strategically and
