La presente these porte sur les principales aires geographiques et culturelles de l'empire islamique au moyen-age et se compose de quatre parties: 1 -presentation des sources utilisees; 2 -fetes religieuses et calendaires; 3 -fete profane et princiere; 4 -egypte fatimide. Le principaux auteurs etudies sont: gahiz, mas'udi, biruni, nasir-i husraw, maqrizi, qalqasandi, ibn tagri birdi, ibn al-hagg, dimasqi, qazwini et les historiens egyptiens contemporains des fatimides: ibn zulaq, musabbihi, ibn al-ma'mun bata'ihi, ibn al-tuwayr, qadi al-fadil. Nous avons etudie les regles qui regissent les differents elements de la fete de la rupture du jeune et de la fete du sacrifice, les deux seules fetes reconnues unanimement par tous les juristes. Parmi les fetes chiites, nous avons retenu principalement la fete de l'etang et la 'asura'. Nous devons a biruni et a maqrizi des exposes importants sur les fetes juives. Les fetes chretiennes sont connues de nombreux auteurs (surtout mas'udi, biruni et abu i-fida'). L'essentiel de la documentation sur les fetes iraniennes anciennes se rapporte a la periode sassanide. En egypte, les anciennes fetes de la crue du nil furent progressivement islamisees. Les hitat de maqrizi et le madhal d'ibn al-hagg comportent d'importants passages sur le fete populaire en egypte. La grande majorite des fetes etait d'origine saisonniere et suivait l'annee astronomique de 365 1/4 jours. Elles etaient liees a la nature. Mais la tradition, l'imagination de l'homme et son besoin de spirituel les ont de bonne heure rattachees a la religion, a la mythologie, a l'histoire. Les femmes sont peu presentes dans les recits relatifs aux fetes. Lorsqu'elles y sont evoquees, il s'agit principalement du milieu populaire. L'islam a su reserver aux fetes qui se sont developpees sur sa terre un formidable accueil fonde sur la tolerance, s'accordant a son peuple de croyants et aux cultures etrangeres<br>This thesis deals with the main geographical and cultural entities of the islamic empire in the middle-ages. The study is composed of four parts: 1 -presentation of the source materials that have been used. 2 -religious and calendar feasts. 3 -profane and princely feast and its various constituents. 4 -fatimid egypt. Main authors used as references are: gahiz, mas'udi, biruni, nasir-i husraw, maqrizi, qalqasandi, ibn tagri birdi, ibn al-hagg, dimasqi, qazwini and the contemporary egyptian historians of the fatimid era: ibn zulaq, musabbihi, ibn al-ma'mun bata'ihi, ibn al-tuwayr, qadi al-fadil. We have studied the rules that govern the various components of the festival of the breaking of the fast and of the sacrifice festival, the only two unanimously acknowledged by the legal experts. Among the shiites feasts, we have, before all, insisted upon the celebration of the 'id al-gadir and the 'asura'. We owe biruni and maqrizi some important reports on the jewish feasts. The christian feasts are well known to a lot of authors, particularly mas'udi, biruni and abu i-fida'. The biggest part of the documentation, on the iranian ancient feasts, refers to the sasanid period. In egypt, the old feasts of the nile flood were gradually islamized. Maqrizi's hitat and ibn al-hagg's madhal comprise important passages on the popular feast. Our study has brought us to the following findings: the greatest number of feasts had a seasonal origin and followed the year by 365 1/4. They were linked to nature. But tradition, man's imagination and his need for spirituality have early linked them up to religion, to mythology and history. Women are little present in the narratives related to feasts, and when they are mentioned, it is in general linked to the popular sphere. Islam has been able to wonderfully welcome the feasts that have expanded on its earth and its welcome was founded on tolerance, in agreement with its people of believers and foreign cultures

Notre travail vise une documentation organisee et argumentee sur le vocabulaire de la critique litteraire et de la rhetorique fonde sur le vocabulaire d'un ouvrage essentiel dans le domaine envisage "le kitab al-sina atayn" d'"abu hilal al-askari" nous n'avons retenu du vocabulaire d'"al-askari" que les termes cles qui correspondent aux notions majeurs de la poetique et de la rhetorique arabes, notions reprises par d'autres savants : philologues, grammariens, critiques litteraires cites par al-askari ou auxquels nous faisions appel pour eclairer les divergences conforter les points communs. . . Bref pour insister sur l'importance que ces termes cles revetaient dans la culture litteraire arabe<br>This work like to unite an organised and argumentated documentation on the vocabulary of an esserary crit critique and rhetoric based on the vocabulary of an essential book in the considered domain : the "kitab al-sinaatayn" of abu hilal al-askari. We have only used from the vocabulary of al-askari the key terms which correspond with the major notions of the arabic poetic and rhetoric, notions studied by oth other scientists : philologist, literary critics mentionned by al-askari. In short we insist on the importance of these key-terms in the arabic literary culture

Au debut du ve xie siecle, l'espagne musulmane connut une grave crise politique qui aboutit a l'abolition du califat et au morcellement du pays en petits etats souverains. Paradoxalement, cette situation desastreuse politiquement provoque un essor culturel sans precedent, et poetes et prosateurs n'ont jamais ete aussi nombreux qu'a cette epoque. La production litteraire fut exceptionnellement abondante et variee. Les hispanos-musulmans ont traite tous les genres et tous les themes poetiques tout en reservant une place speciale a la vie de plaisir et a la nature. Mais les circonstances politiques ont voulu que ce fut avant tout une poesie de cour vivant du mecenat. La prose fut dominee par l'emploi du sag (prose rimee et rythmee) et par la passion qu'avaient les auteurs andalous pour le badi (style fleuri). Leur souci majeur n'etait pas la recherche de l'originalite. Ils voulaient vant tout rivaliser avec les orientaux. Dans une large mesure, ils y sont parvenus<br>At the beginning of the fifth eleventh century, in islamic spain, burts a serious political crisis which ended by the abolishment of the caliphate of cordoba and the carving up of the country into many tiny kingdoms. Paradoxically, this desastrous situation, from the political pint of view, originated an expansion in the culturel field as never before. Actually, never had poets hand prosaist been so numerous, nor literary works so abundant and varied. The andalusians dealt with all poetic matters in every possible maner, but with a special interest for nature and pleasures of life. Yet, due to political circumstances, it had to be a court poetry and itwas supported by the petty courts ruler's patronage. As to the andalusian prose-writers, they had a special predilection for the flowery language (badi) written in versified and rithmical prose (sag). Originality was not their main concern; more than anything else they wanted to compete with the orientals - or even surpass them. And indeed, to a great extent, they succeeded

A quel point la religion islamique a-t-elle eu une influence sur la poesie arabe? notre etude demontre que la poesie de la'ancien islam s'inspirait de deux cultures: l'une profane, leguee par les poetes anteislamiques, l'autre religieuse, promulguee par l'islam. Cette derniere aspirait a etablir une rupture avec la premiere. Nous avons considere ce procede comme etant un facteur contribuant a la destabilisation des gouts et a l'aneantissement des talents poetiques. Ceci s'applique aux poetes de la periode du passage de l'epoque anteislamique a l'epoque islamique. Cependant, il a fallu attendre des conjonctures plus prometteuses pour observer l'inspiration des poetes par une source unique qu'est l'islam, en particulier le coran ceci apparaitra avec la naissance des partis politico-religieux au sein de la societe islamique, notamment le parti kharijite qui nous a legue une oeuvre poetique digne du terme "islamique", celle-ci differe des poemes arabes classiques. Elle temoigne d'une exaltation religieuse importante. Les reminiscences coraniques abondent dans cette oeuvre, cela s'explique par le fait que ses auteurs etaient des grands lecteurs du coran, et celui-ci exerca du seul fait qu'il fut appris par coeur une action inconsciente sur les styles et les contenus<br>How important was the influence of islamic religion over arabic poetry? our investigation allowed us to remark that the poetry in early islam was inspired by two cultures: one is secular and passed on by preislamic predecessors, the other is religious and promulgated by a new religion: islam, which established a breack with the former. This proceed, we considered it as a factor which contributed to the destabilisation of tastes, and to the annihilation of poetictalents. This establishment applies particularly to the poets of the period of the passage from the preislamic era to the islamic era. We waited for more promissing conjunctures to remark that poets were inspired by a unique origin: islam, particularly by coran. This would appear with the birth of politico-religious partis in the islamic society, especially the kharijit parti which passed on to us a poetic work (different from classic arabic poetry) worthy of the term "islamic". It relates a religious exaltation. The coranic reminiscences abound, and this is because the authors were great readers of the coran, and this exerced an unconscious action on the styles and the substances

Dans cette recherche nous essayons de comprendre la vision particulière qu'a al-Gahiz (776-869) de la langue(comprenant ici langue, discours et langage). Cette vision apparaît d'un côté à travers sa théorie du Bayân, (théorie de la signification et de la communication) qui impose une vision statique de la langue. La langue devient une réalité fixe au même plan que sa " référence " extra-linguistique. Le rôle du sujet parlant dans l'engendrement du sens est limité et les concepts linguistiques de la convention, du signifiant et de la référence extra-linguistique ne trouvent plus de place dans l'univers du Bayân. La valeur particulière de la langue se dégage du discours argumentatif de notre auteur, dans lequel elle devient un " lieu " de l'argumentation, un argument agissant sur la réalité physique observable. Le domaine du linguistique et celui de l'extra-linguistique s'interpénètrent<br>This particular vision appears on the one hand in his theory of Bayân, (theory of meaning and communicationʿ wich leads to a static vision of language. Thus language becomes a stable reality similar to its extra-linguistic referenceʺ. The role of the human being using language in creating meaning is limited, and the linguistic concepts of convention, and extra-linguistic reference have no more place in the universe of Bayân. The particular value of language can be found also in his argumentative discourse in which language becomes an argument influencing the physical observable reality. The domains of what belongs to linguistics and what is extra-linguistic penetrate each other

Pour decrire la pensee poetique et rhetorique de abd al-qahir al-gurgani, on a procede a une lecture de ses deux ouvrages asrar et dala'il. D'une part on a examine les grands concepts fondamentaux, tels que "rhetorique" "poetique" "eloquence". . . Tout en mettant l'accent sur leur nature et les multiples relations existant entre elles. D'autre part, une description des domaines qui ont largement preoccupe la pense de abd al-qahir, essentiellement la definition et la classification des figures et tropes de la rhetorique arabe<br>The purpose of this study is to depict poetic as well a rhetoric features of abd al-qahir's two books : asrar and dala'il. We should, on the one hand, trace his fundamental concepts such as "rhetoric" "poetic" "eloquence". . . While putting the emphasis on their nature and the varing relations existing among them, on the basis of their meaning. On the other hand, we should describe the spheres which have langely preoccupied abd al-qahir's thought, especially, the definition, classification of tropes and figures of speech in rhetoric arabic

Il s'agit d'une etude sur ibn abi-l-hadid et sur son ouvrage : le sharh nahj al-balagha. 1l'auteur : poete talentueux, ecrivain fecond et savant mu'tazilite d'une rare erudition, ibn abi-l-hadid naquit a mada'in, ctesiphon de jadis, en 1190 apres j. C. Et mourut a bagdad en 1258 apres j. C. 2l'ouvrage : dans ses vingt volumes, l'auteur a commente des discours, des messages et de sages propos attribues traditionnellement a ali b. Abi talib et recueillis dans le nahj al-balagha (la voie de l'eloquence). L'auteur, toutefois, a voulu faire de son livre une veritable oeuvre encyclopedique, et non pas un simple commentaire litteraire. En plus de l'etude d'ibn abi-l-hadid et de son ouvrage, notre travail a consiste a recenser les sources, dans lesquelles l'ecrivain a puise les materiaux de son commentaire du nahj al-balagha, et a les analyser, tour a tour, en traitant de leur auteur, de leur teneur et de l'objet de la citation<br>A study of ibn abi-l-hadid and his works : the sharh nahj al-balagha 1-the author : poet of talent, prolific writer and mu'tazilite scholar of rare erudition, ibn abi-l-hadid was born in mada'in, formerly cteciphon, in 1190 a. D. And died in bagdad in 1258 a. D. 2- his works : within these twenty volumes; the author gives a commentary of the speeches, messages and judicious utterances formerly attributed to ali b. Abi talib and collected in the nahj al-balagha (the voice of eloquence). The author, however, wished to make his book a veritable encyclopaedia and not simply a literary commentary. Not only have we studied the life and works of ibn abi-l-hadid, but we have also made a study of the sources from wich the writer drew the material of his commentary of the nahj al-balagha. These sources have been analysed, in turn, dealing with their writer, their signifiance and the object of quotation

Ce travail de recherche explore la place de la nature dans la poésie arabe à l’âge abbasside (VIII-XIII siècles), en s’intéressant plus particulièrement à l’esthétique de la poésie, à l’imaginaire arabe et à l’essence même de la production poétique. Il s’agit de montrer en quoi l’évolution de la poésie descriptive dans la littérature arabe constitue un sujet, non seulement essentiel, mais aussi sous-jacent à la poésie de la nature telle qu’elle est abordée et traitée par d’autres chercheurs dans des périodes différentes. Pour ce faire, cette étude a délibérément respecté la démarche chronologique, afin de proposer une vue synoptique de l’évolution de la représentation de la nature depuis la période préislamique jusqu’à l’âge abbasside, en passant par la période omeyyade, ère durant laquelle ce thème deviendra un thème à part entière et trouvera pleinement sa place, bien ancrée dans le nouvel essor civilisationnel de la vie citadine. Ce mode de vie inédit a invité les poètes abbassides à se tourner vers la description des aspects de la nature dans un langage mieux élaboré, épousant exactement les changements d’inspiration de la société contemporaine et engendrant naturellement une production poétique métamorphosée, fruit d’une débauche d’imagination spontanée, foisonnant de connotations polysémiques imprimant une dynamique enlevée. Cette représentation artistique versifiée en une langue riche et raffinée, ponctuée par un rythme marqué, miroir fidèle de l’environnement intellectuel et culturel de l’époque envisagée, se manifeste chez des poètes abbassides innovants, construisant de longs poèmes sur le thème unique de la nature dans lesquels ils épanchent leurs émotions et leur vécu. Finalement, ce travail de recherche a montré que la poésie avait atteint son apogée esthétique à l’âge abbasside qui, ainsi, devint l’âge d’or de la littérature arabe<br>The piece of research is exploring the place of Nature in the Arabic poetry during the Abbasside Age (VIII-XIII century), focusing more particularly on the poetical aesthetics, the Arabic imaginativeness as well as the very essence of poetical production. This work aims at showing how the evolution of descriptive poetry in the Arabic literature can be considered as a subject not only essential, but also subjacent to the poetry of Nature itself by the way it has been tackled and treated by other research students in other periods. In this perspective this research has deliberately abided by chronological approach in order to propose a synoptic survey of the evolution of the representation of Nature since the preislamic era until the Abbasside age throughout the Ommeyyade period during which this theme was to become a full one completely inserted into the new civilization development of the urban way of life. Indeed this new way of life invited the Abbasside poets to engage into the use of a more elaborate language for describing the various aspects of Nature, thus, strictly following up the changes in inspiration due to this contemporary society and naturally entailing a deeply transformed poetical production as the fruit of a spontaneous, abundant imagination rich in polysemic connotations inducing a spirited dynamic movement. This artistic representation written in richly refined verses, hammered out in a marked rhythm, faithfully mirrored in the intellectual and cultural milieu of their epoch, is obvious among this Abbasside poets making innovations while building long poems about the subject-matter of nature-in which they pour forth their emotions and their experience-. Last but not least, this piece of research has put in the limelight that poetry had reached its peak of aesthetical perfection during the Abbasside Age that consequently became the Golden Age of the Arabic literature

Dans la première moitié du Xe siècle, Abū al-Faraǧ al-Iṣfahānī (m. 967) écrit son Kitāb al-Aġānī, le Livre des Chants. Des divers sujets que traite l’ouvrage, nous avons étudié la représentation d’une classe située en bas de l’échelle sociale : celle des chanteurs. Al-Iṣfahānī présente des hommes situés sur les marges de la société autant sur le plan physique que moral. Et leur origine de mawlā ne fait qu’aggraver leur situation. Quant à leurs consoeurs les qiyān, elles usent de leur statut d’esclaves - chanteuse pour transgresser les normes sociales et religieuses et, par leur beauté et leur formation d’excellence, parviennent à soumettre les hommes les fréquentant. De la marge, les chanteurs d’al-Aġānī purent ainsi occuper le centre de la vie de plaisir dans les grandes métropoles musulmans. Toutes ces représentations qu’elles soient vraies ou fausses, réelles ou fantasmatiques, sont transmises sous forme de ḫabar avec de longue chaînes de transmission qu’al-Iṣfahānī tient particulièrement à évoquer suivant l’unique méthode d’authentification des récits reconnue à son époque<br>Alī Ibn Al-Ḥusayn, Abū Al-Faraǧ Al-Iṣfahānī (c.967) wrote his masterpieces, Kitāb al-Aġānī : The Book of Songs, in the first half of the tenth century. The various subjects about which the book concerns represent a social class at the bottom of the social ladder : the singers. Al-Iṣfahānī pictures these men physically, socially and morally marginalized. Moreover, their mawlā origin aggravates their situation. On the contrary, Qiyan, their female counterparts, who took advantage of their slave - singer status, their beauty and their excellent training to transgress the social and religious norms, were able to bring the visiting men to their knees. The marginalized singers of Al-Aġānī ironically occupy the center of the life of pleasure in big cities of the Muslim empire. All these representations ; either true or false, real or fantastic, were recorded in the form of Habar through long chains of transmission that al-Iṣfahānī is particularly keen to evoke and repeat one after the other using the unique method of authentication of the celebrated tales of his time
