Full textThe traditional literature of Gabon, western in nature with ifs roots in the 1920's, was first bought onto the world stage with the timid French voice of "L'Echo Gabonais". Since that time, a number of irregularities can be identified the first publishing house wasn't established tilt 1980, some sixty years later. The themes of Gabonese literature between 1920 and 1970 differs from other works produced in the African sub continent, we can note an absence of creativity and quality of the literature produced. It woutdn't be unti! the 1980's before the voice gave up ifs timid whirnper and cried out for ail to hear, its writers finaily gaining a voice on the world stage. This slow trial over the first sixty years has proven that the Gabonese literature has corne of age, and one day we hope that ifs writers and authors will gain prestige within the ranks ofthe their peers

Full textThis thesis gives voice to gabonese women's novels according to the new criticism approaches on french-speaking african women's literature. The critics are agree to recognize that women literary production bring a new breath to african literature, because the female writers don't restrict themselves by developing autobiographical stories, but they treat marginal questions and they're concerned about today's problems in their society. In regard to these considerations, we wanted to assess by questionong the novels, the extent of newness so often praise by the critics. For that reason, we relied on some elements liable to express this change. Gabonese novelists illustrate the new tendency of women's literature by their free speaking and by developing a new vision round about woman's body, her sexuality, her motherhood, her freedom aspiration, her filial and matrimonial connections. But at the same time, their writing follow the african way of writing. This one doesn't yet offer - in spite of recourse to oral art and other african forms of language - interesting perspectives, on expression viewpoint, who can lead to an african esthetic renewal

Full textGabonese literary works in general and the novel in particular raise amazement because of their being scarce. The goal of our dissertation has been to improve some aesthetical approaches of the Gabonese novel. It has consisted in turning down the common description of the Gabonese novel as being behind. The aesthetics of the Gabonese novel reveals an identity of isolation. The systems of its setting up result mainly from this aspect. Revealing how the novel has been built up in the Gabonese literature through the writings of Peter Ndemby and Chantal Magalie Mbazoo Kassa means, on the one hand, developing issues of influences in the Gabonese prose and shaping the relationship between text and society. This process helps to uncover a better definition of literariness in Gabon according to the works of Fortunat Obiang Essono. On the other hand, in dealing with the modalities of the Gabonese novel, we have had to develop its literary peculiarity through its mimetic and autistic literariness, and its ‘exiguousness’. From the literary story of Lanson through the sociocriticism of Claude Duchet and Pierre Zima, the Gabonese novel has unveiled peculiarities requiring new approaches, a new conception of literariness in the Gabonese novel

Full textThis study of women’s problems as expressed linguistically, through word usage, is based on a corpus of representative works by Gabonese authors and its French title plays on the homonyms maux meaning « problems, predicaments », and mots, meaning « words ». The underlying methodology used here relies on Goldman’s and Duchet’s sociocritical approach combined with Charaudeau’s and Ratier’s discourse analysis and the interactional focus of Kerbrat-Orecchioni. The study determines that specific lexical and syntagmatic items (name words, titles, hypochoristic names, etc. ) are linked to a particular topology, that of Gabon, and they also highlight the levels and register of language which have been chosen by authors of different cultures, generations and sex. Moreover, grammatical categories (nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs) point to characteristic patterns of speech used by female characters. A comparison of the way these linguistic elements are used shows the diverse relationships of the authors to the langage they have chosen to write in

Full textInfluenced by traditional initiation, gabonese novels embodies the basic ingredients of the rites and beliefs of the gabonese people. Gabonese novels evoke common themes which reflect different fundamental aspects of gabonese culture and tradition. In some novels, the subject of social integration is illustrated as certain characters undergo rites of circumcision or "tchikumbi" which marks the passage from childhood to adulthood. On novels, the subject of spiritual purification in other, principal characters undergo an initiation into the spiritual or invisible world and a mastery of the art of magic. And lastly, some novels situate on the theme of sorcery whereby sorcerers indulge in self metamorphosis and anthropophagi. These eight literary works which embody our literature highlight important symbolic characters, transcendental environment and an initiation parlance which unveils the one hand the link between the gabonese people and the sacred clan and on the other, the dynamic relationship between the traditional belief system and Christianity presumably the largest religion in Gabon, a relationship initially confrontational and later constructive based on inculturation, tolerance, dialogue and acceptance and recognition of mutual differences

Full textThe Gabonese literature, strong in its dynamism, sees more writers make the choice to describe social realities in a French language reappropriated. What is for them to reinvent the French, in the image of their society, and to make their own language of writing. Our thesis proposes to study this phenomenon in the Gabonese crime novel, this booming genre represented by Janis Otsiemi, and to demonstrate that creativity from the point of view of language remains inseparable fromthe commitment and conviction of the Gabonese writer, and afro-sub-Saharan by extension. At first, it is a question of distinguishing the language of writing from the writing of the language. To do this, to study the writer's writing strategies, to identify the various gabonisms and Africanisms present in Otsiemi's novel and the functions proper to each linguistic peculiarity, allows us to describe literary aesthetics and Gabonese languages practices. In the second place, the objective is for us to proceed with a hermeneutic of the work of Otsiemi to free, thanks to the subversion of writing, the subversive poetics of his work. To do this, situating the author's style amounts to evaluating the author's commitment to language and writing, to coping with a hybrid writing resulting from the proliferation of intertexts, and to approach the identity both revalorized and deconstructed by the author, thus respecting the elementary principle of the crime novel that is to write black

Full textRepresentations and identities of African descent in Peru and Gabonese women in literature is a comparative study on the status of women in their respective societies. In either society, one cannot fully grasp the experience of these two categories of women without looking into their social status, their life and the role (specific or not) that they play in their different communities. In Peru, women of African descent are constantly hobbled by many stereotypes and prejudice. We are interested to know the forms they take in contemporary Peruvian literature. That is why the analysis of female characters in the literary texts selected for this study represents a crucial step toward questioning this stereotyping dynamics. More importantly, attempts to “deconstruct” this social malady by Gregorio Martínez through such works as Canto de sirena, Crónica de músicos y diablos and Cuatro cuentos eróticos de Acarí were also analized.In Gabon, on the other hand, women's condition, their social status and the discrimination that they have to face is mainly due to the dual effects of traditions and misogyny in the modern society. In such novels Histoire d' Awu (“The Story of Awu”) and Féminin interdit (“No females”) by Justine Mintsa and Honorine Ngou, the characters are portrayed as the victims of traditional society because of their lack of freedom. Because of certain customs, women are oppressed, and abused; “they are constantly silenced, denied humanity and made nonfunctional”. Full textThe esthetic nature of the novel of Gabon is marked by two major influences : Realism and Oral tradition. Realism is firstly rooted in the geography and culture of the people. Looked at through the lens of "power" - we first see the influence of "political power" found in African literature since the period of independence in the 1960's, and from another angle that of "witchcraft" a recurrent theme in particular in Gabon novel. The recording of oral traditions is birthed from a place of "realism" with writers describing village life through the beliefs and rituals of the people. The place of "oral tradition" in the novel of Gabon is the second part of this study. "Oral tradition" encompasses all the rich wisdom of a people, transferred from ear to ear, from past generations through the ages. The transposition of "oral tradition" in the literature is a recording of the African oral universe made up of its beliefs and practices. There is from one side the desire to convey the traditions of a people, and from the other side, to expose the shortcoming of modern society. In the third part of this study, there is under-line through the ties between political power and witchcraft, a calling into question of traditional practices in modern society. Literature serves as a tool to analyse society, with some authors opting for a "hidden" denunciation through the use of writing styles, which offer a certain "security", especially during periods where it is not advisable to criticize the actions of political power. Others denounce through the depiction of "truth" or modern reality. The rehabilitation of society needs therefore to pass through the use of words that are forever a part of ancestral wisdom
