Full textLiterary theory and statistics may seem far removed from one another, but their combination makes it possible to propose a singular point of view in the field of literature. This research has been conceived in the light of the possibilities offered by such an approach, which is likely to provide a response to a literary curiosity about the extreme contemporaneity observed in France. The object of study is the young adult imaginary literature, which, in France, shows clear-cut degrees of success depending on the origin of its published titles: on the one hand, translated Anglo-American books with exponential popularity; on the other, French books whose most popular representatives are nonetheless far less popular than their contemporaries. And if certain external influencing factors can logically be determined, what about those that may be in action within the text itself? The heart of this research will be to interrogate, detect and even predict these possible textual reasons from a statistical angle, without however ignoring external ones, which will also be examined in order to best measure the weight of the influences at book. In other words, to use the double modality of the title of this research, an objective that can be translated in the form of the following problematization: “Can the successes of young adult imaginary literature in France be, to some extent, explained and predicted on the basis of textual material?”.This approach, at the crossroads of the exact sciences and literary theory, made possible by an analytical approach based on typologies and models conceptualized through a combination of approaches in structuralism, narratology and textometry, aims to measure and verify the characteristics of success external to the text through the prism of statistics; but above all, proposes to examine textual phenomena in a quantifiable form, and detect those at by in action within the fiction itself and to mirror them according to the commercial success that the books have enjoyed

Full textThis study consists of an integrated linguistic analysis of the work of Milan Kundera. By integrated analysis, we mean a linguistic study carried out through qualitative and quanti-tative methods. These methods belong to the field of textometry, a discipline whose objective is to analyse textual corpora through computer processing (Guiraud, 1960; Lebart, Salem, 1994; Pincemin, 2020). More generally, this work could therefore be included in the field of stylometry, since this textometric analysis is functional to the characterization of a style of writing (Magri, 2010). Indeed, the main objective of this research is to detect by contrast the elements that define Kundera's prose. To this end, two corpora were composed : a corpus of study and a reference corpus (Rastier, 2011). The first comprehends almost all the texts of Kundera's Œuvre I, II (Gallimard, Pléiade). The second is representative of the French literary landscape of the period in which Kundera published his texts (1968-2013).The corpora were first digitised and then examined using the textometry software Hyperbase (web and standard version), which employs both classical statistical methods and deep learning techniques (CNN, Convolutional neural network). This software allows various analyses on lexical, morphosyntactic and semantic levels. In particular, the following elements have been investigated : the vocabulary structure, morphological and syntactic aspects, morphosyntactic and multidimensional patterns, and finally the thematic structure. These elements were examined in an endogenous analysis of the corpus of study and in a series of exogenous analyses between the corpus of study and the reference corpus. Indeed, comparative studies between Kundera's work and the contrastive norm represented by the reference corpus aim to isolate the linguistic characteristics of the literary language of the time in novels, essays and short stories, in order to detect the distinguishing elements of Kundera's prose that differ from the linguistic model of his contemporaries' literary language. In addition, endogenous analyses of Kundera's work - made possible by the compilation of subcorpora - can account for linguistic constants that are independent of genre, period and/or language, as well as for linguistic variants determined by literary genre, diachronic and/or linguistic variability. In conclusion, this study employs an integrated methodology (linguistics, literature, statistics, deep learning) with the aim of defining the prototypical features of Kundera's idiolect, that is, the most significant elements that distinguish his writing from that of a representative sample of his contemporary French authors

Full textFor several years now, there has been an exponential growth in cases of plagiarism not only in the arts, but in scientific research as well. Reality warrants that in the absence of a specialist in literature in court to separate the gold from the dross, the judge is often compelled to play the rote of both a specialist in law and in literature. It is against this backdrop that this research work is inspired. The aim is to analyze four biographies, two novels and three court rulings in an attempt to address the shortcomings of “legal approach” to literature and propose a systematized literary analytical framework. This analytical framework is the result of combining two processes : the manual process and the computer-assisted one. As a matter of fact, against a general framework of analyzing the complete works, manual analysis is combined with textometry, carried out using two softwares: TXM designed by the iCAR laboratory of ENS Lyon and Hyperbase designed by Professor Etienne Brunet of Nice University. It is after all these investigations that the literature specialist may issue a reasoned opinion that the court may use to say what the law is and... mete out justice

Full textIn this thesis we study the representations of Parisian modernity during the “Grand XIXème siècle” through representative sampling of 31 novels. Modernity is for us like a tradition of the new incessantly renewed. Novels are the main source of this research, to which we add a source that we have created using textometry and GIS softwares. Authors describe the city of Paris by the walks of their characters. We can associate them with urban walk. We can identify and mapping these walks, by the names of streets which are used. So we can create a cartographic representation of the city of Paris in our sampling. Texts and maps are analyzed in the same time, because they give us two points of view of literary representations of Parisian modernity. We studied the modernity of Paris from the micro to the macro, from the intimate space of the housing to the large urban transformation operations. We identified four incarnations of modernity in the French capital: architecture, business, networks and transport. Modernity is an accumulation of characteristic markers. Some seem absent from the novels in our sampling. We consider them as contrasts of modernity, between absences, ambivalences and negative modernity
