Abstract:
The thesis looks at conflicts about accessing natural resources, within an Indian national park, Kanha, through a sociological perspective. As conservation of natural resources, in the wild, involve segregating wildlife space for the wild flora and fauna and the indigenous human population of the region, therefore this gives rise to issues of who has access to what. The idea of conserving wildlife within legally designated spaces comes from the western concept of creating national parks. But it had various implications when applied to the rest of the world, especially, the developing world.

Abstract:
Heathlands typically experience regimes consisting of frequent and intense fires. These fire regimes play important roles in the lifecycles and population dynamics of all species in these communities. Prescribed fire is commonly applied to heathlands to minimise the risk of wildfires as well as to promote biodiversity. Ignitions in heathlands tend to either be unsustainable, or quickly develop into rapidly spreading intense fires. This presents a major problem for the application of prescribed fire and is the primary focus of this thesis. Heathland ignition has been investigated in three

The Little Creek watershed was assessed to identify changes in event-based suspended sediment export and determine the factors contributing to sediment production the first year following the Lockheed Fire in 2009. High intensity, short duration rainfall (up to 87 mm/hr for 10 minute duration) initiated extensive rilling and minor channel-derived debris torrents originating from the upper south facing slopes.
