Despite their sessile nature, juvenile trees in savannah ecosystems are not always easy to encounter. Here, the remedy of choice in animal studies, capture-recapture modelling, is evaluated with respect to plants. During 7 censuses, 4,145 juvenile trees of 8 dominant species were monitored. Using models with joint analysis of live and dead encounters, resighting probabilities averaged 0.88±0.15 for seedlings and 0.92±0.10 for resprouts, while dead recovery probabilities averaged 0.71±0.25 for all age-classes. However, the mortality rate for 2014-2016 in Limpopo was 165.16/100000 live births against the national target of 38/100000 live births. Abstract Looking at Simon McBurney’s award-winning solo performance The Encounter (2015), this paper examines the play’s contribution to environmental humanities through an ecocritical study of its combined use of state-of-the-art sound design and the age-old art of storytelling to address the link between the ecological and spiritual crises that we are facing. The Encounter relates the real story of the American photographer Loren McIntyre who lived with the Mayoruna tribe for six weeks in 1969 after getting lost in the Amazon rainforest. This article draws on the results of a life writing initiative, ARENA (Archive of Refugee Encounter Narratives), developed at the University of Innsbruck in Austria. It involves students of English collaborating with refugees over periods of three months to write down the latter’s stories. Like other storytelling ventures spawned by the perceived European refugee crisis of 2015, ARENA aims to enable a better understanding of the situation of refugees in Europe than the dominant asylum discourse allows. To this end, students arrange regular encounters with participating refugees and encourage t

Devotions use different things, postures, colours, tines, fragrance where by our touch of the sacred can be more sensible and meaningful. Something that is very important is the interaction through which our life receives new hope and strength. Often there is a risk that the whole lif

The Paper tries to unveil the vital actions and counteractions of language and culture upon each other. A language neither can originate nor live without the culture. Language and culture, thus, are inseparable. Language rolls on the concrete passage of time encountering many alike and opposite processes like a culture, de cultures and re culture and gathers moss. Particularly, in post colonial context Odia language encounters some radical changes and reaps new products with respect to words, morphology, prefixes, suffixes and many more things. With the help of a case vignette, the paper highlights the reasons for migration among transgender individuals. This viewpoint has been selected from a study conducted among 50 transgender individuals in Assam across various districts in the state. Due to various transphobic behaviors, many transgender individuals encounter discrimination and find it difficult to fit into so-called “mainstream society”. Therefore, many choose to migrate to a different district, city, or state to live a life of their choice.

This article proposes the benefits to be had from an unusual conversation: that between those suffering from chronic pain/illness and from long-term incarceration. Taking a phenomenological approach, a series of experiential commonalities are outlined: pain and illness, like incarceration, can cause (1) a constriction of lived space and the range of possible action; (2) a disruption of lived time, such that one is trapped in an aversive ‘now’, or ever trying to escape it; (3) isolation, as meaningful social contacts diminish or are ripped away; and (4) disempowerment and depersonalisation, esp
