Abstract:
This investigation illustrates the topography, gross anatomy, histology and ultrastructure of the liver and gallbladder of the Nile crocodile in order to fill the gap that exists in the literature regarding this important crocodilian. For the topographical and macroscopical descriptions the livers and gallbladders were obtained from the carcasses of slaughtered juvenile Nile crocodiles. Perfusion and immersion fixation of tissues for histology and transmission electron microscopy were performed on juvenile Nile crocodiles donated to the university. Three studies were designed to investigate the influence of dietary copper (Cu) on liver morphology, aortic integrity, lipid composition of lipoproteins, fatty acid profile of hepatic lipids, as well as in vivo hepatic fatty acid synthesis. Animals were randomly assigned to two dietary Cu treatments (deficient and adequate). Reductions in body weight, liver Cu content, and hematocrit, as well as elevations in liver weight and plasma volume were observed in animals fed Cu-deficient diet. Electron micrographs suggest that the Cu-deficient liver parenchymal cells contain a higher number of mitoch

On the other hand, single cell analysis is required for studying functional heterogeneities between cells within populations. The two defining features of mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells are self-renewal and naive pluripotency, the ability to give rise to all cell lineages in the adult body. In addition to being a unique and interesting cell type, pluripotent ES cells have demonstrated their potential for continued advancements in biomedical science. Currently, there is an improved understanding in the chemical signals and the gene regulatory network responsible for the maintenance of ES cells in the naive pluripotent state. However, less is understood about how ES cells exit pluripotency. My main aim is to study the
