Abstract:
Abstract Mixed culture filtrates of Photorhabdus luminescens isolated from Heterorhabditis bacteriophora H06 and from H. indica LN2 had a toxic effect on axenic H. bacteriophora H06 dauer juveniles. Single culture filtrates had no effect. When one filtrate originated from a secondary phase culture, the toxic effect was lost. Heat treatment of one of the filtrates to 80°C destroyed the effect. The toxin is probably synthesized de novo after mixing the culture supernatants of these two P. luminescens symbionts. Dilution of the filtrate reduced the effect, and it was lost when P. luminescens was

Abstract:
Stemphylium solani, which causes a new leaf blight of cotton, was suspected of producing a phytotoxin. Studies were conducted to examine the relationship between the reaction of different cotton cultivars and of some unrelated host species to the pathogen and its toxin-containing culture filtrates. Seven single spore isolates of S. solani from cotton and their toxin-containing culture filtrates were used for leaf and root bioassays. An isolate of S. solani from tomato was also used for comparison. The phytotoxic effect was isolate dependent. Culture filtrates of five isolates killed 40 to 60%

Phototrophic purple non-sulfur bacteria (PNSB) mineralize organic waste. In media with different organic substances they are metabolized from simple aliphatic organic acids to complex polysaccharides. These bacteria can produce H2, indole-3-acetic acid and 5-aminolevulinic acid. PNSB purify waters from hydrogen sulfide and, as components of ecosystem trophic chains, participate in process of sulfur cycle. The ability of these bacteria to denitrification is of particular interest to specialists because nitrates concentrations in industrial effluents are often much higher than the maximum permis

Selective synthesis of specific phased nanomaterials via a green route is a promising yet challenging task. In the present work, the hexagonal and monoclinic phases of BiPO4:Ln3+ (Ln = Sm, Eu, Tb, Dy) were prepared via room temperature co-precipitation method. For adjusting the phase of the products, the prepared mediums selected were the most common solvents, i.e., water and ethanol. It was very important that the prepared mediums could be easily recycled and reused by evaporating the filtrate. The formation mechanisms of hexagonal in water and monoclinic in ethanol were investigated. Interes

ABSTRACT Helicobacter pylori infection is associated with pronounced infiltration of granulocytes and lymphocytes into the gastric mucosa, resulting in active chronic gastritis that may develop into duodenal ulcer disease or gastric adenocarcinoma. Infiltrating T cells play a major role in the pathology of these diseases, but the signals involved in recruitment of T cells from blood to H. pylori-infected tissues are not well understood. We therefore examined H. pylori-induced T-cell transendothelial migration (TEM). The Transwell system, employing a monolayer of human umbilical vein endothelia

International audience Raycasting is the most common target pointing technique in virtual reality environments. However, performance on small and distant targets is impacted by the accuracy of the pointing device and the user's motor skills. Current pointing facilitation techniques are currently only applied in the context of the virtual hand, i.e. for targets within reach. We propose enhancements to Raycasting : filtering the ray, and adding a controllable cursor on the ray to select the nearest target.
