Based on the intention to understand how regional journalism is configured in its printed and online interface regarding news quality and the public interest, this research establishes a semiodiscursive analysis of the newspaper O Popular, considering its physical and digital versions. The study starts from the perspective that journalism is related to ideas of truth, public interest and citizenship and is justified by the limited bibliography on regional journalism and an urgent need to understand the practices adopted by the newspapers at the transitory moment in which it lives. A moment that Charron and Bonville (2016) consider a paradigmatic transition from information journalism to communication one. After the popularization of the Internet, there is a definition lack of journalism place. In addition, there is no knowledge about how to finance journalistic practices. It is believed, according to Charaudeau (2015), that the media maintains a space of citizenship essential for democracy. Thus, it is investigated how this commitment to offer quality information remains active in the face of the challenges with which newspapers live in the network society. To do so, the research was developed between 2016 and 2018, with three specific periods of data collection: August 21 to 24, October 25 to 31 and November 6 to 12, all in 2017. In the analysis, it is possible to perceive that the practices adopted for the printed version of the journal have more traditional characteristics and are directly related to the legitimating discourse of journalism, while the practices adopted for the online version show less commitment with ideas of public interest and citizenship, presenting subjects in a hurried and incomplete way, which reduces the reliability and credibility of the media, as well as diminishing the true effect of the journalism practiced. We can see the distance between the two points of the interface analyzed, with the predisposition of the digital newspaper to "sensationalism" and the nonthematic focus on the "exercise of power" in the printed version. It attends to the public interest in subjects, but not in deepening and contextualization, which occurs to the detriment of the quality of the newspaper and impedes the access of the reader to information that helps in the process of construction of reality and in the capacity to self-govern socially and politically.

This dissertation investigates the history of Jornal Local, a weekly printed newspaper of Valença, in southern Rio de Janeiro, with the goal of analyzing how this newspaper chronicles the city, and thus what kind of urban space identity the newspaper helps build. For this, we used authors of Cultural Studies as the main reference for the development of the identity issue in contemporary times. In addition, we researched local canonical bibliography for key defining ideas of traditional valencian identity, in order to verify if this is the emerging valencian identity narratives in the Jornal Local. Twelve editions of the newspaper were analyzed, covering the issues of July 18, 2013 to October 3, 2013, using Content Analysis methodology. The goal, more than merely exposing the space dedicated by JL to questioning the valencian identity theme, was to examine how and with how much intensity the newspaper treats the subject. The research was also characterized by a strong historiographical focus, to expose, beyond the city’s history, the historical trajectory of the Valencian press.

Full textThis dissertation aims to analyze the adoption of civic journalism, called citizen journalism in this study, as a way to practice the regional journalism on weekly periodicals on small towns in the interior of São Paulo. Will be study this new type of journalism - which is characterized by the existence and maintenance of a social link between the communication vehicle and the readers, thematicing the problems of a community to its residents being able to resolve them - to investigate if (and in wich ways) this new formula contribute to the increase of the capacity of society to deal with collective problems and in which measure this editorial line of the periodical can be considered a communicacional strategy with the publical readers and advertisers. The justification for this work is in the need to seek other alternatives to hegemonic journalism. At the same time, find another ways for marketing outlets for small periodical businesses that is suffering competition, including the internet. This is a case study of the Journal of Jales weekly printed that circulated on sundays in Jales city, in northwestern of São Paulo State - from three actions mediated by it: the creation of the House of Culture, a collection of 96 issues of the MEMORY Project and a series of 12 editorials entitled Wake-up, Jales! which tried to awake the readers for a need to create a spirit of colletive citizenship able to help in solving local problems. Those materials were published between October 1971, date of foundation of the newspaper, and December 2006, beginning of this research. Using conceptual keys built in works of Algirdas Julien Greimas, Cicília Maria Krohling Peruzzo, Ciro Marcondes Filho, Clóvis Rossi, José Marques de Melo and Sylvia Moretzsohn, among other researchers, it was possible to examine the actions of the Journal of Jales. The journal stablished a fiducia contract with the readers, which resulted in a pact of social responsibility, concept studied from authors such as Alzira Alves de Abreu, Antonio Hohlfeldt, Carlos Álvarez Teijeiro, Carlos Castilho, Jan Schaffer, Luiz Martins da Silva, Márcio Ronaldo Santos Fernandes, Marialva Barbosa, Murilo César Soares and Nelson Traquina, among others. The objective of this work is to analyze that set theory of actions mediated by the Journal of Jales, which feature a local society for a duty to do- to solve their problems. Will be examine how the enunciator shows such actions in specific communication contracts and will be realize a critical thematic frameworks. The fundamental thesis advocated in this research, from the case study, the Journal of Jales, is that with the citizen journalism is possible to improve the editorial line of these communication vehicles and establish new communication strategies along with the public

Full textKnowledge is more and more being considered as a main organizational strategic active, mostly in knowledge intensive organizations, as is the case in the Journalism sector; hence slowly we observe an increasing interest for research on knowledge management on this area, particularly regarding ways to improve products and services and helping these kind of organizations to become more competitive. This means creating organizational standards for knowledge processing, as well as developing strategical vision and planning for this purpose. In the Journalism area we observe simultaneously a globalizing trend, pressed by advances on communication technology, as well as a strengthening of local journalism. All this may be considered as part of the Glolocal movement on this Digital Era of Communication, where we deal with real time news at a planetary scale. Under these conditions our research is a case study, based on four interviews on local journals located on the State of São Paulo , looks at the knowledge management processes been used by these kind of organizations related to the four stages of knowledge acquisition, maintenance , stocking and dissemination; as well as problems related to promoting these processes

Full textENGLISH ABSTRACT: The print media, especially newspapers, play an important role in providing information in any society. In the rural communities of South Africa, information available to the people is scanty. Growth of a newspaper is necessary if a newspaper is to fulfil its duties. The Zoutpansberger and Mirror are two of the few local newspapers that circulate in the Far North Region of the Northern Province. The Zoutpansberger, which started in 1985, has experienced negative growth in the various departments of the newspaper, while the Mirror, which started in September 1990, has experienced slow growth. Several factors have been responsible for this. Therefore, there was a need to examine and compare the factors that have affected the growth/development of the newspapers over ten years. The aims and objectives of the study are to examine and compare the factors that affect the growth and development of the Zoutpansberger and Mirror, give suggestions to facilitate future growth and the best ways of utilising the available resources. A literature survey was carried out to get the perspectives of other researchers. Data was collected after conducting personal interviews, using the interview schedule. It was analysed and interpreted with the use of graphs and charts. The findings reveal that economic, social, cultural and geographical factors affect the growth of the newspaper. A few recommendations have been given to highlight ways in which the paper can make full use of the available resources.
Verskeie faktore is hiervoor verantwoordelik.
