Abstract:
Abstract: Language related to culture. Like other languages, Indonesian language is also heavily influenced by local cultures. For this reason, as a BIPA teaching strategy, it must also introduce cultures in Indonesia. Materials that can be introduced for this purpose are local color literature in the form of poetry and prose, both novels and short stories. Many local colors in Indonesian literature have been found since the birth of Indonesian literature. In addition to describing the local colors of Minangkabau, various local colors of other regions enrich the Indonesian literary repertoire. The local color literature that can be used is a collection of Terang Bulang Terang di Kali short stories : Keliling Betawi story (2007) by S.M. Ardan. The use of local colors not only introduces Indonesian culture but also increases language skills especially to expand the vocabulary of the Indonesian language. In addition they will enjoy the beauty and capture the message conveyed in the form of the literary work. Thus, teaching BIPA will be fun and useful as well as the function of the literature itself which is dulce et utile, pleasant and useful. Keywords: sastra, warna lokal, strategi pengajaran, BIPA

Abstract:
Color is a concrete expression of combining local features and traditional culture. The purpose of this study is to provide a new design method and intends, by taking the traditional costume of the Yi women in Liangshan, China, as an example, to establish a systematic color scheme which can be used as a reference for the establishment of relevant color records for other cultural groups. First of all, through literature review, this study provides the definition of the traditional costume of the Yi women in Liangshan, color and culture and color images and clarifies the characteristics of research samples. Secondly, experts are invited to find out and record the color values of different colors on Yi women’s costume, and a software is resorted to in order to calculate the area ration of each color and analyze the color distribution principles of sample costume. Moreover, this study discusses the color images of Yi women’s costume, sorts out its unique color characteristics and establishes and verifies samples of color scheme through focus group interviews in order to analyze regional cultural colors. Finally, this study proposes a systematic approach for regional cultural color analysis, namely, understanding color characteristics, analyzing color images, establishing a color scheme and demonstrating color scheme principles. Through a systematic approach, these cultural colors are analyzed and organized to establish a regional cultural color scheme, which can not only retain the characteristics of the traditional cultural colors of Chinese ethnic groups’ costume but also serve as a reference for designers to develop regional cultural products.

Abstract:
Cultural association analysis of color is an approach to know color from the side of culture. Unlike the previous color studies which see the color from the aspect of psychology, this research of color aims to provide insight based on the colors from local culture. Johannes Itten’s theory of color was used as a basis of thought in this research. The theory was reflected to Indonesian cultures, and this time, represented by Java island. Research used qualitative method by literature study, interviewing the color experts, historians and artists, visiting cultural centers. Results of the research are in the form of morphological matrix cultural over color. Matrix of analysis resulted in argument and study proposal. Students implemented the color schemes from 5 big cities in Java. They were asked to change the color composition of food and beverage packaging. Students may use, explore, and maximize the principle of color in visual communication to achieve contrast and balance.

Abstract:
Indonesia has 34 provinces, 98 cities and 416 districts. Each Province, City and Regency has a local government to manage the community as representatives of the central government. Each provincial government has a regional logo. Regional logos reflect cultural symbols such as regional peculiarities, regional identities, which is contained in the graphic elements of regional logos such as images, colors and text. The use of color in regional logos is tied to images as symbols. In the regional regulations regarding color, there are meanings and provisions for color types. However, in that regulations, there is no Hex codes. Hex codes which refer to the colors of regional logos are important to know for the use of original colors according to those contained in regional regulations and to maintain the consistency of the logo color . Based on this, the purpose of this study is to determine the type of color and to know the Hex code which refers to the color contained in the logos of provinces such as Banten, West Java, Central Java, East Java, DKI Jakarta and DI Yogyakarta. The method used is descriptive, statistical and using feature color picker, Hex and color name finder. Data were collected through literature and observation. The results showed the colors in the regional logos were dominated by primary colors. Hex code was found. Found a more appropriate color name. The colors on the six regional logos match the Hex code and color names

Abstract:
This study aims to gain knowledge and discoveries about kinship in Minangkabau local color novels represented by AR Rizal's Limpapeh novel. The author's social background indirectly influences this. Concerning kinship is worth researching because, since the time of modern literature in Indonesia, Minangkabau literature was formerly famous for its ironic tales related to marriage and customs. Meanwhile, through his novel, AR Rizal shows the condition of today's society with a kinship order that still maintains the past system, and it turns out that it is still often found in the reality of today's society even though this is only expressed in the form of works of fiction. This qualitative research uses the content analysis method, namely research that discusses information in depth and then marks it in the form of quotations in the novel as data marked in the text. The results of this study found that the form of kinship in the novel Limpapeh by AR Rizal is in the form of suku and sako, mamak and kemenakan, bako and anak pisang, andan and pasumandan. In terms of kinship, it shows that ethnic issues and the role of Mamak are still essential and are used today in Minangkabau society. This indirectly shows that mimetic elements in fictional literary works can still be found in society.

Abstract:
Our work aims at building a unitary, systematic tableau of the Italian narrative after Verga. We have focused on literary and language aspects <>. Tracing a real or presumed 'local color', we have examined over one hundred and fifty short stories ( 'In magna Sila' by Nicola Misasi; 'Novelle Napolitane' by Salvatore Di Giacomo; 'Dal vero' by Matilde Serao; 'Trecce nere' by Domenico Ciampoli; 'Terra vergine' by Gabriele D'Annunzio; 'In Provincia' by Mario Pratesi; 'Sotto gli alberi' by Emilio De Marchi; 'Le anime semplici. Storie umili' by Remigio Zena). The language has been studied based on norms and everyday usage of those times. The latter has been shaped through the works of scholars who have analyzed different aspects of the Italian language from the 19th century, in literature, journalism, and also in more colloquial, familiar letters. The section about literature preceding the portrait pictured above offers a comparative survey of the specific traits of Verga's Verismo according to the variations made, in the already mentioned collections of short stories, by the authors involved in this research.

Abstract:
Line detection algorithms are used by many application fields, such as computer vision and automation, as a basis for more complex analysis. For instance, line information can be used as input to object detection algorithms or even attitude estimation in flying robots. One way to detect lines is to use an isotropic nonlinear filtering procedure called the Wide Line Detector (WLD). This algorithm is effective to highlight the line pixels in gray scale images, separating dark or bright lines. However, line detection algorithms are not normally concerned with the pixel-wise estimation of thickness. If available, such information could be further explored by computer vision algorithms. Furthermore, color is extensively used in computer vision as an object discriminant, but not by the WLD. In this work, we propose the extension of the WLD to color images. We also develop a method that allows the estimation of the line width locally using only the density information and no border or center line information. Finally, we develop a new monotonically increasing kernel that is more efficient and yet effective to detect lines than the monotonically decreasing kernels used by the WLD. Finally, we devise a way ro obtain the wideline thickness from the density estimate obtained from the similarity between pixels, reverting the process used by the WLD to determine which kernel should be used. We perform several experiments with the proposed method, considering different parameters, and comparing it to the traditional WLD algorithm to assess the effectiveness of the method.

Moraes, Rodrigues Ariston. "O romantismo revisitado : Machado de Assis, primeiros romances." Thesis, Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018USPCA053.

Abstract:
This work analyzes the first four novels of the Brazilian writer Machado de Assis (1839-1908) – Ressurreição (1872), A mão e a luva (1874), Helena (1876), and Iaiá Garcia (1978) – aiming to understand the link between these books and the Brazilian romantic movement. Although the novels were written at a time when Romanticism in Brazil was coming to an end, they were classified by critics of the early 20th century as romantic works because they contained recurrent narrative elements based on that movement which began in Brazil in 1836. Nevertheless, although such elements can be observed in the early work of Machado de Assis, they do not meet the technical procedure of the overall romanticist literary movement. It is thus necessary to discuss the extent to which these elements are deployed in the writer's initial novels. In order to do that, this work analyzes the process of creation of the Brazilian romantic movement, which is directly associated with the Empire of Brazil (1822-1889). This is important to understand the role of the local color, and more specifically of the Brazilian landscape, in the aesthetic basis of the Brazilian romanticism. From the outline of this basic structure of Brazilian romanticism, the analysis of the early novels of Machado de Assis shows that the author critically reviewed the romantic tradition to develop an original, creative, independent and universal literature

Abstract:
AbstractThe literature of multimedia forensics is mainly dedicated to the analysis of single assets (such as sole image or video files), aiming at individually assessing their authenticity. Different from this, image provenance analysis is devoted to the joint examination of multiple assets, intending to ascertain their history of edits, by evaluating pairwise relationships. Each relationship, thus, expresses the probability of one asset giving rise to the other, through either global or local operations, such as data compression, resizing, color-space modifications, content blurring, and content splicing. The principled combination of these relationships unveils the provenance of the assets, also constituting an important forensic tool for authenticity verification. This chapter introduces the problem of provenance analysis, discussing its importance and delving into the state-of-the-art techniques to solve it.

Abstract:
The Latin square completion (LSC) problem aims to assign n symbols to the empty cells of a partially filled Latin square such that in each row and each column, each symbol appears exactly once. In this paper, we propose a swap relaxation-based fast local search algorithm called SRLS for solving the LSC problem. First, it introduces a novel search space definition, which forbids row conflicts based on which a swap-based neighborhood is defined. Second, a color domain relaxation technique is employed in the swap-based neighborhood by temporarily accepting the violation of some constraints to connect high-quality solutions. Third, two effective scoring functions are adopted to select neighborhood moves minimizing the number of conflicting edges as well as the number of color domain violations. Finally, SRLS employs an adaptive restart mechanism to balance the exploitation and exploration of the search. Extensive experiments on 1819 public benchmark instances demonstrate that SRLS outperforms the state-of-the-art algorithms in the literature in terms of both success rate and computational efficiency.

In this paper, a hybrid Otsu and improved Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is presented to deal with multilevel color image thresholding problem, named APSOW. In APSOW, the historical information represented by the local best solutions found so far by PSO population are permuted among the current population, using a randomized greedy process. APSOW also implements a weedout operator to prune the worst individuals from the population. The proposed APSOW is compared to other hybrid EAs and Otsu approaches from literature (include standard PSO model) through twelve benchmark color image problems, showing its potential and robustness.

Abstract:
Abstract A series of experiments was conducted for the measurement of local convective heat transfer coefficients for an obliquely impinging circular air jet to a flat plate. In the experiments, the oblique angles selected were 90°, 75°, 60° and 45° with 90° being a vertical jet. Two different Reynolds numbers of 10,000 and 23,000 were considered for the purpose of comparison with previous data available in the literature. Another parameter varied in the measurements was the dimensionless jet-to-plate distance, L/D. Four values of L/D(2, 4, 7 and 10) were considered in the experiments. The experiments were conducted using the pre-heated-wall transient liquid crystal technique. Liquid crystal color changes were recorded with a video system. Local convective heat transfer coefficients were obtained through the surface transient temperatures which were related to the recorded color information. Detailed local heat transfer coefficients were presented and discussed in relation to the asymmetric wall jet upon impingement of the jet flow. Results of experiments show that, for a given flow situation the point of maximum heat transfer shifts away from the geometrical impingement point toward the compression side of the wall jet on the axis of symmetry. The shift is more pronounced with a smaller oblique angle (larger jet inclination) and a smaller jet-to-plate distance. Comparisons of experimental results with existing heat transfer data for both obliquely impinging jets and vertical impinging jets are made. The effect of oblique angles on heat transfer was assessed.

Abstract:
Reaction calorimetry is one of the most important steps in designing chemical reactors. This contribution describes a continuously operated micro calorimeter using Seebeck elements for microreactors made of PVDF-foils. Seebeck elements allow for local and temporal resolution of heat flux profiles. Various calibration methods for the Seebeck effect based heat flux sensors are presented. Here, the direct correlation between measured thermoelectric voltage and heat flux is found to be the most promising one. Commissioning of the calorimeter and validation of its performance are done by means of heat transfer measurement of warm water and an acid base reaction. Obtained reaction enthalpy values of the neutralization reaction of acetic acid and sodium hydroxide agree very well with literature data. The progression of the reaction can be followed optically using phenolphthalein as color indicator and can be compared to measured data. Heat profiles over the course of the microreactor were shown and checked for consistency. Consequently, this approach helps to characterize reactors and aids reactor development.

Abstract:
The artisanally produced cheese feels a major comeback. Shops specialising in artisanal cheeses are increasingly selling artisanal cheeses made by local producers. In this work we made an assortment of matured cheese, from cow's milk, according to a traditional recipe from Harghita County, Romania. The technological process of obtaining ripened cheeses from cow's milk, studied by us, complies with the traditional technology used for many years. The products obtained were physicochemical evaluated in terms of moisture content, dry matter content, protein content, ash content and fat content in compliance with the methods of the quality standards regarding dairy products. All the results obtained from the physicochemical analysis were compared with the results from the specialized literature. At the same time, a sensory analysis was performed for the matured cow cheese produced by its own production versus other cheese samples from the same category from different areas of Romania. The sensory evaluation was carried out by the method of comparison with unitary score scales, the characteristics pursued being: the appearance and shape of the product, the consistency of the product, the color of the product, the aroma of the product and the taste of the product.

Avis, William. Funding Mechanisms to Local CSOs. Institute of Development Studies, May 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/k4d.2022.089.

Abstract:
Civil society can be broadly defined as the area outside the family, market and state. As such, civil society encompasses a spectrum of actors with a wide range of purposes, constituencies, structures, degrees of organisation, functions, size, resource levels, cultural contexts, ideologies, membership, geographical coverage, strategies and approaches. This rapid literature review collates available literature on funding mechanisms and barriers to local CSOs gaining access to funding and the extent to which funding leads towards organisational development and sustainability. Broadly, it is asserted that in terms of funding, local CSOs often struggle to secure funding equivalent to that of INGOs and their local representatives. Kleibl & Munck (2017) reflect that indigenous non-state actors do not receive large shares of development funding. For example, only 10% of the total funding for US-funded health projects in Uganda was allocated to indigenous non-state actors.Given the diversity of CSOs and the variety of contexts, sectors they work in and the services they supply, it is challenging to summarise funding mechanisms available to local CSOs and the barriers to accessing these. Recent analyses of CSO funding report that while the total CSO funding in many contexts has continued to increase in absolute terms since 2015, its relative importance (as a share of total Overseas Development Assistance) has been decreasing (Verbrugge and Huyse, 2018). They continued that ODA funding channelled through CSOs (i.e., funding that is programmed by the donor government) remains far more important in volumes than ODA channelled directly to CSOs (which is programmed by CSOs themselves). The literature identifies three principal mechanisms by which donors provide financial support to civil society actors: a) Direct support to individual or umbrella organisations; b) Via Southern government; c) Via Intermediaries – largely Northern NGOs.

Carter, Becky, and Paul Harvey. A Literature Review on Social Assistance and Capacity in Yemen. Institute of Development Studies, October 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/basic.2023.003.

Full text
Abstract:
Yemen is experiencing one of the worst crises in the world in terms of levels of suffering and humanitarian need. Intense civil war since 2014 has devastated the national economy, and approximately two-thirds of the population (21.6 million people) were assessed as being in need of humanitarian assistance and protection services in 2023 (OCHA 2023a). In response to such huge levels of need, a substantial humanitarian aid operation has been ongoing for the past eight years. The social assistance landscape in Yemen is a complex mix of humanitarian aid and the legacies of social protection systems, with local institutions still playing a role in the delivery of assistance. This paper reviews the literature, looking at the following issues: how best to balance humanitarian and social protection approaches; how to balance meeting acute immediate needs and support for longer-term systems in an ongoing conflict; and how to maintain support in the face of donor fatigue, and a complex and dynamic political landscape in Yemen. In a context where aid actors are committed to localisation, and in order to strengthen the nexus between development, humanitarian and peace-building approaches, it is vital to understand how local capacities have been affected by conflict and how the international aid effort is trying to engage with national and local actors. However, efforts to strengthen local capacities also need to take into account the divided governance in Yemen, ongoing conflict, and tensions between the main donor governments’ funding of assistance and the de facto authorities in the north of Yemen. This paper provides an empirical building block that will help to inform efforts to engage with local capacities by comprehensively mapping the complex mix of local and national actors involved in the management, delivery and regulation of social assistance. This review summarises the key literature and evidence on the capacities of national and international actors involved in providing social assistance in Yemen. It has been undertaken to inform a Yemen study on social assistance capacities and systems, part of the Better Assistance in Crises (BASIC) Research programme.[1] The primary audience is donors providing social assistance in Yemen, to help their decision-making on how to support local actors’ capacities for social assistance. Social assistance refers to the non-contributory transfers (provided as food, cash or vouchers) to poor and vulnerable households and individuals. Today in Yemen these transfers support millions of people, funded by humanitarian and development aid, and implemented by international aid agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) with national quasi-governmental bodies and national and local NGOs. Other local stakeholders (national and local governance authorities in the north and south of the country, and community members and beneficiaries) are also involved. This Yemen study feeds into broader BASIC Research work on the resilience of social protection systems in crises. We draw on the inception review by Slater, Haruna and Baur (2022) to frame our understanding of capacity along three interlinked dimensions: institutional, organisational and individual capacities. We found a small published literature on capacities for social assistance in Yemen (mainly donor and aid agency strategic and programme documents and some independent analysis of aid effectiveness). In this report, we summarise the political economy of international support in Yemen (Section 2). We map the social assistance landscape (Section 3), as well as the capacities of key national actors (Section 4) and international actors (Section 5 and Annexe). Section 5 sets out some preliminary conclusions.
