Abstract:
The main objective of the paper is to examine the concepts of region and regional identity in order to point out their political, social and theoretical/philosophical opportunity, and also their highly problematic character, especially in the current Eastern European context. The author tries to determine the contents of the concept of region from phenomenological perspective and shows that it is hardly possibly because, in practice, “region” refers more to arbitrary political and administrative criteria than to what can be experienced as a common “surrounding world”. The examples of regions a

Abstract:
Abstract The process of quantum measurement is considered in the algebraic framework of quantum field theory on curved spacetimes. Measurements are carried out on one quantum field theory, the “system”, using another, the “probe”. The measurement process involves a dynamical coupling of “system” and “probe” within a bounded spacetime region. The resulting “coupled theory” determines a scattering map on the uncoupled combination of the “system” and “probe” by reference to natural “in” and “out” spacetime regions. No specific interaction is assumed and all constructions are local and covariant.

AbstractWe present new spectroscopic results which constrain the distance of a large IR emitting filament near the LMC, as well as some new results for a local region with widely distributed detections of Intermediate Velocity Clouds (IVCs). We present spectroscopic observations of stars toward both regions which constrain the distances and kinematics of the interstellar features. New optical high resolution (λ/δλ ⋍ 106) spectra have been obtained for the star HD 22252, and are used to estimate approximate distances, temperatures, and pressures within the cloud. An unusual local region of the
