Abstract:
<p>The purpose of this study was to examine if there was a relation between birth order, gender and locus of control. There where 162 participants in the study, 44 men, 115 women. Birth order was coded into three levels. There where no significant differences between birth order and locus of control. The result showed that female participants where more external when it came to locus of control. When birth order was coded into two levels, there was a significant difference in locus of control. Only-borns where significant more internal than the other sibling groups. Firstborns/ only-borns where significant more internal than both second-born and last-borns. There was no interaction effect between birth order and gender. Adler´s sibling theories and Rotter´s theory of locus of control helped to explain the significant results found in this study.</p>

Colebrook-Claude, Carnell. "Development and Validation of the Adolescent Internal Environmental Locus of Control Scale (AINELOC)." Thesis, Fielding Graduate University, 2018. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=10974518.

Abstract:
<p> This dissertation aims to validate the Adolescent Internal Environmental Locus of Control (AINELOC) scales (green consumer, activist, advocate, and recycling attitude). The AINELOC was developed based on the lack of applicability in the original Internal Environmental Locus of Control (INELOC) scale to the adolescent population. This opportunity to adjust the language to make it more accessible for adolescents resulted in the construction of the AINELOC tool to research adolescents&rsquo; reasoning and innate ability to make interpretations about beliefs and motivations regarding the environment. It was demonstrated that persons with greater levels of internal environmental locus of control have positive mindsets and beliefs that affect their well-being, behavior, and attitude toward the environment. Collectively, the literature in this research explored the role of LOC as a driving factor and a strong predictor in shaping an individual&rsquo;s eco-centric thoughts and behavior. The factor structure of the AINELOC was examined and data collected from a sample of adolescents to validate the internal consistency of scales for this novel construct. Correlations between the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control (MHLOC) measure with the new AINELOC tool were conducted to provide substantiation for the convergent and discriminant validity of the AINELOC. </p><p>

Abstract:
Assim, as análises estatísticas demonstraram qualidades psicométricas razoáveis. The number of obese people has nearly doubled since 1980. Thus, obesity becomes a threat to the physical, mental and social balance of these individuals. Among the psychological treatments, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy stands out, in which it explains that the belief system of an individual interferes in the development of their feelings and behaviors and, when distorted, can cause dysfunctional tendencies of reasoning. Adapting instruments to deepen the studies regarding the eating behavior of obese individuals may lead to actions to promote their health. The Dieting Beliefs Scale, composed of 16 statements, divided between internal control locus (factor 1), locus that are beyond the control (factor 2) and external locus (factor 3), evaluates the relationship between weight and behavior in the diet. The aim of this study is to adapt this scale in adult non-clinical sample (students and staff at the University of Ribeirão Preto - UNAERP) of both genders and apply the version adapted for clinical sample (clinic patients Nutrition UNAERP). The analysis of the adaptation data was performed with 197 subjects from the non-clinical sample and the translation, analysis of the validity evidence (Exploratory Factor Analysis - AFE - and Confirmatory Factor Analysis - AFC) and accuracy or reliability (Cronbach\'s alpha and test -retested). The application of the adapted scale was performed in the clinical sample (n = 114). Regarding the results of the translation, the non-clinical sample showed no doubts about the translated version. Therefore, it was applied in 197 subjects of this sample. Regarding the results of the validity evidence, AFE found that items 2, 9, 10, 11 and 15 presented a high factor load factor 1; Items 5, 6 and 7 presented a high factor load for factor 2 and items 8, 12 and 13 for factor 3. Items 1, 3, 4 and 16 were excluded because they presented a factorial load below 0.40. In the AFC, the re-specified model of the original scale presented a reasonable fit. The results of Accuracy or reliability were performed using Cronbach\'s Alpha (0.404), classified as moderate and Test-retest (n = 96), where it was observed that factor 1 had a higher correlation index (0.620), compared with Factors 2 (0.499) and 3 (0.381). The results of scale application in the clinical sample show that there is evidence of a non-statistically significant relationship between BMI and Dietary Belief Scale factors. This sample may have an understanding of the importance of internal factors in a weight loss process. Thus, the statistical analyzes demonstrated reasonable psychometric qualities. It is recommended to use this tool for research in order to understand the beliefs of individuals in the process of weight loss and the factor that may be interfering in their behavior

Abstract:
This study sought to determine the extent a relationship exists between locus of control and the rate of completion for proposal and dissertation defense among doctoral students. Levenson's Internal, Powerful Others, and Chance scales were utilized to identify locus of control orientation. Findings indicated that: (1) a majority, 102, scored highest on the Internal scale; (2) Internal scale scores above the median related to increased probability of a proposal and dissertation defense and to reduced time in reaching those points; (3) no significant difference was found between male and female defensive externals in completing the proposal or dissertation defense; and (4) females tended to score higher than males on the Internal scale. Among conclusions drawn are: (1) Internal scale scores above the median relate to a reduced length of time to complete the proposal and dissertation defense; and (2) few doctoral candidates scoring higher on the Powerful Others or Chance scales were identified in this doctoral program after the point of qualifying examinations.

Abstract:

Full text
Abstract:
Ingen signifikant skillnad i Locus of Control-testet mellan befattningarna fanns.

Prinsloo, Mariechen. "Job insecurity in a retail bank in South–Africa : scale validation and an exploration of negative attitudinal outcomes / Prinsloo M." Thesis, North-West University, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10394/7294.

Full text
Abstract:
The objective of this study was, firstly, to investigate the reliability of a measure of qualitative and quantitative job insecurity and, secondly, to determine the relationship between qualitative and quantitative job insecurity, job satisfaction, affective organisational commitment, turnover intention and locus of control. A cross–sectional survey design was used which included participants randomly selected from a retail banking group across junior, supervisory and middle management levels (n=178). The job insecurity scales of Hellgren, Sverke and Isaksson (1999); job satisfaction scale of Hellgren, Sjöberg and Sverke (1997); affective organisational commitment scale of Allen and Meyer (1990); turnover intention scale of Sjöberg and Sverke (2001) and the locus of control scale of Levenson (1981) were administered. Descriptive statistics were used in order to analyse the data. Structural equivalence was used for the comparison of the factor structures of the job insecurity scale for the three language groups. Furthermore, in order to determine the relationships between the variables, the Pearson product–moment correlation coefficients were used, while the dependent variable turnover intention was predicted by means of a regression analysis. As indicated at the outset, two research articles form the basis of this mini–dissertation: Based on the first article, results indicate that both the qualitative and quantitative scale presented satisfactory levels of reliability across different language groups, and a relationship between these dimensions (quantitative and qualitative) was noticeable. However, the item “I think my future prospects and opportunities within the organisation are good” included in the qualitative job insecurity scale could well be problematic, the deduction being that language barriers probably played a role in participants’ interpretation of the question. According to the second article, both qualitative and quantitative job insecurity positively related to turnover intentions. Furthermore, job satisfaction reported a negative relationship with turnover intention, and a negative relationship between qualitative job insecurity and job satisfaction came to the fore. Locus of control, on the other hand, had a direct bearing on qualitative job insecurity, while only job satisfaction and quantitative job insecurity directly predicted employees’ turnover intention in the banking sector. Finally, locus of control seemingly had no mediating effect when predicting turnover intention. Based on the afore–going, this mini–dissertation will conclude by offering deductions and making recommendations for further research as well as offering possible solutions to the commercial banking sector as far as the retention of staff is concerned.<br>Thesis (M.Com. Abstract:
The problem of this study was to identify variables in the family environment that may describe depressed adolescents' families. This study was based on Adlerian theory. The Family Environment Scale (FES) was used to measure the family atmosphere. The Lifestyle Scale (LS) was used to examine the adolescent's unique system of beliefs, values, and attitudes. The Internal-External Locus of Control Scale (IE) was used to measure the extent of external control exhibited by the adolescents and their parents. The subjects of this study were 31 depressed adolescents from 2 suburban psychiatric hospitals and one of each of the adolescent's parents. The subjects were from a homogeneous socioeconomic population showing no significant variation in the demographic categories of sex, race, chronological birth order, or marital status of the parents. Scores were compared with normative data. Product moment correlations were calculated between the results of the subscales on the 3 instruments. A principal components factor analysis was performed to determine if any patterns existed.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the roles internal locus of control and self-efficacy play in moderating how employees manage their perceived work stress and positively engage in the behaviors that facilitate autonomy, environmental mastery, personal growth, self-acceptance, positive relations with others, and purpose in life. Investigators have documented the relationship between perceived workplace stress and strain and showed that how employees cope with perceived stress influences their psychological and physical health. However, there is less information available about the relationship between how employees cope with perceived workplace stress and engage in behaviors that facilitate their psychological well-being. A quasi-experimental methodology was used; male and female tire manufacturing production workers working in a shift work manufacturing environment were surveyed using a secure online server. Data collection tools included the Perceived Stress Scale, the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Form C 4 subscales, the Perceived Self-Efficacy Scale, and Ryff's 6 Scales of Psychological Well-Being. Hypotheses were analyzed using moderated multiple regression analyses. Employees who operate from an internal locus of control and who demonstrate high levels of self-efficacy reported lower levels of perceived stress and higher levels of self-acceptance. The implications for social change provide organizational leaders with insight into the potential benefits and saving of both financial and human capital by screening and training employees to better understand how to evaluate and develop their abilities to operate from an internal locus of control, as well as how to improve their self-efficacy skills.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Conclusões Os pacientes apresentaram atitudes positivas frente ao tratamento com medicamentos antineoplásicos orais e relataram poucas dificuldades no manejo da terapia<br>Introduction Cancer is a chronic disease ranked in an outstanding position. Patients’ compliance, attitudes and behavior have been frequently reported as a determining factor for the success of the therapy with oral antineoplastic drugs. Objectives Characterize oral antineoplastic therapy patients’ profiles; disease aspects and behavior, beliefs and perceptions with regard to the disease and the treatment. Population and Method Sixty-one patients diagnosed with cancer undergoing oral antineoplastic therapy in the out-patient unit of a private hospital in the city of São Paulo were studied. Assessment instruments applied were Morisky and Green Test, Health Locus of Control Scale and a questionnaire on factors that can interfere in drug treatment. P<0.05 values were considered statistically significant. Results Patients studied were 64% women, 54.8±15.6 years, 95% white, 74% married; 80% university graduated; 37% with monthly income between US$ 817.75 to US$ 1635.50; 29% worked on business and administrative activities, 34% had gastrointestinal cancer; 34% took Capecitabine; length of time of the disease was 37.1 ± 62.2 months; length of time of the treatment 14.4 ± 25.1 months; and length of time of oral antineoplastic therapy 8.6 ± 14.8 months. Morisky and Green Test was found to be positive in 28% of the patients and 25% stated having interrupted the treatment. In the Health Locus of Control (HLC) Scale, the scores of internal HLC (21.7±4.3) and powerful others externally HLC (22.5± 4.1) were similar. The lowest score was observed in the dimension of chance external HLC (16.5±6.0). Besides, patients reported few difficulties that can influence on their compliance with oral antineoplastic treatment. The following statistically significant (p<0.05) associations were observed: 1-Patients showing positive Morisky and Green test were longer under treatment in relation to the oral drug. Positive tests were observed in two patients using Mercaptopurine and in roughly one fourth, using Dexamethasona, Thalidomide and Hormonietherapics. 2-In Health Locus of Control Scale, men who did not undergo surgery, did not use to have a massage and with shorter time of disease and treatment were those who showed higher scores in Internal HLC. Patients with higher scores in the dimension of powerful others external HLC interrupted the treatment. Patients who showed higher scores in the dimension of Chance External HLC used oral antineoplastic drugs continuously and did not took part in religious rituals as other forms of treatment 3-The questionnaire that assessed aspects related to the treatment revealed that patients who showed more difficulties, were being treated with oral antineoplastic drugs for a longer time. Conclusions Patients showed positive attitudes regarding the treatment with oral antineoplastic drugs and reported few difficulties to lead with the therapy

The location of individual s locus of control will suffer influence of their developmental period. During adolescence, individuals turn to the construction of their identity, and the structuring of sexual identity is a relevant part of this process, since the roles of males and females are the most important from the socio-cultural point of view. One of the roles that adolescents can take is the mother or father. We chose to head the adolescents who are not mothers and fathers, and question them about their concepts of parenthood. It is hypothesized that adolescents with internal locus of control will probably develop concepts of maternity and paternity in which they attach to themselves the responsibility for children. The aim of this study was to relate the locus of control s predominant dimension in adolescence and the way that these young people conceptualize parenthood. This is an exploratory analytical cross-sectional study accomplished with 400 adolescents from the classes of the sixth to ninth grade of high school at public schools in Natal / RN. We used as protocols: structured questionnaire involving sociodemographic questions and questions about the concept of parenthood, and the Multifactorial Scale of Locus of Control. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, with the aid of statistical package SPSS 18.0. The results regarding questions about the concept of maternity and paternity were analyzed using the analysis program often ALCESTE 4.7. The results showed that for boys and girls, maternity and paternity were characterized by the acquisition and assumption of responsibilities of adulthood. This concept is supported by the locus of control s classification of individuals, since most of the subjects of this study was characterized as individuals who tend to take responsibility for their life's events. For young people from lower classes (as the subjects of this research), the project of autonomy and social mobility is realized by the constitution of his own family and the ability to sustain it<br>L?cus de Controle ? um constructo que pretende explicar a percep??o das pessoas a respeito da fonte de controle dos eventos, se pr?prias do sujeito interno ou pertencente a algum elemento fora de si pr?prio externo. Abstract:
However, despite of its relevance this theme is less studied. This thesis is the result of this statement with the aims to propose a definition of employability and determine its dimensions, to develop a measuring scale of the concept, and to identify its determinants. On the basis of theoretical arguments and conclusions extracted from an exploratory study undertaken with actors of employment, a definition of employability was proposed and its determinants were précised. Then, a questionnaire including 62 items is created. In order to evaluate its quality, firstly the questionnaire was subjected to an exploratory factorial analysis and internal coherence tests. And secondly we have consolidated the exploratory factorial structure through confirmatory factor analysis. The final scale developed includes 42 items divided into six dimensions. In additions, thanks to an examination of literature, we built a theoretical model of employability development. This model simultaneously incorporates determinants about organizational, personal, and socio-Demographical variables. The empirical test of the model was performed in the third and final quantitative study with a heterogeneous population working in different companies (N=214). The results obtained show that training, organizational learning, the support of hierarchical superior, the self-Efficacy, and the internal locus of control are factor facilitating the development of employability. The diploma, the professional experience, the family situation, and the health also appeared to explain employability

I diskussionen förs resonemang om resultatet i relation till tidigare forskning.<br>The study aimed to investigate whether there are correlations between conscientiousness, Lo-cus of Control and job motivation, and if age and length of service predict job motivation. Statistical tests, using both bivariate correlations such as Spearman's rho and standard and hierarchical MRA showed significant relationship between conscientiousness and job motivation. Using stan-dard MRA shows that only conscientiousness predicts aspects of motivation. Neither age nor length of service predicted aspects of motivation, which is not consistent with previous re-search. The discussion is carried on effect on the outcome in relation to previous research.

Abstract:
Resultatet visades i första hand gälla förstfödda män.

Abstract:
Counterfactual thinking is the tendency to view events that can easily be imagined otherwise as events that ought not to have been (Miller & Turnbull, 1990). Thirty-six male and sixty-five female subjects from introductory psychology courses completed a counterfactual thinking questionnaire and two personality measures assessing locus of control (Rotter Locus of Control Scale) and self-esteem (Texas Social Behavior Inventory). Results supported the hypothesis that people are more likely to generate counterfactual thoughts when their actions are perceived as easily mutable or when an event is easily imagined otherwise. Results also indicated that women were more likely to mutate events than were men. Finally, participants with high self-esteem were more likely to mutate events than were participants with low self-esteem. Results provided no evidence for a relationship between counterfactual thinking and locus of control. Factors that might have reduced the impact of the individual difference variables are considered.<br>Department of Psychological Science

Caselman, Gabrielle, and Julia Dodd. "An Exploration of Locus of Control: The Mediating Effect of Locus of Control Among Victims of Sexual Trauma." Digital Commons @ East Tennessee State University, 2019. https://dc.etsu.edu/etsu-works/7330.

Full text
Abstract:
Locus of control has been associated with health outcomes (Donham et al., 1983; Holder & Levi, 1988) as well as interactions with the health care field (Christensen et al., 1996) and has independently predicted health outcomes among victims of sexual trauma (Simoni & Ng, 2002). As such, it may help to explain adverse health outcomes associated with sexual trauma. The current study sought to examine the potential mediating factor that an individual’s locus of control may have on the relationship between history of sexual trauma and health outcomes/health care interactions. Locus of control was measured via the Levenson Locus of Control Scales (Levenson, 1981) which divides locus of control into three subscales: internal locus of control, powerful others, and chance. Among a sample of women aged 18-50 years old (N = 753), an internal locus of control significantly mediated the relationship between sexual trauma and health outcomes (somatic symptoms, self-rated health, depression, and anxiety) as well as the relationship between sexual trauma and health care interactions (an individual’s level of medical mistrust and medical nonadherence). While each external locus of control scale did significantly predict outcomes, they were not significant mediators. Findings indicate the importance of internal locus of control in understanding sexual trauma’s effect on health outcomes.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between children's locus of control and parental locus of control and attitudes toward warmth and control in child-rearing. It was hoped that the degree to which the parent variables were related to children's locus of control would be useful in suggesting specific emphases for parent training and counseling.;The subjects chosen for this research were public school children attending fourth, fifth, or sixth grades in an eastern Virginia school system and their parents. The sample was limited to 233 volunteers from middle to upper socioeconomic two-parent homes.;Participating parents completed three self-report measures (locus of control, warmth, control), after which the students completed the children's locus of control measure. The data collected were then organized according to students' gender and locus of control score. Four groups were derived: internal males, external males, internal females, and external females. Six parent variables were then examined for each group. to investigate the research hypotheses, correlational analyses, followed by multiple regression analyses were performed.;Results of the research suggest that for only one group, "internal males", were the relationships between locus of control scores and parents' variables significant. For this group, the data suggest that males who have internal locus of control orientations may have mothers and fathers who also have internal locus of control orientations and who display a high degree of warmth or acceptance in child-rearing. It was also found that when the locus of control scores of all four groups were combined they were significantly related to fathers', but not to mothers', locus of control scores.;These relationships, while statistically significant, were extremely weak. This suggests that there may be other variables (social, familial, or individual) which were not considered in this research which may interact to influence the development of children's locus of control orientations. Recommendations are given for future research which suggest the inclusion of these variables.

Abstract:
Förklaringar till resultaten diskuterades.<br>Job satisfaction is an important concept nowadays considering people spend so much time at work. It is hard to define and it is very complex but can be seen as individuals view on values at work. Locke (1976) describes it as conditions and experiences while Kaufmann and Kaufmann (2005) describe it as an interaction between feelings and expectations among the employees. There are aspects that can link to how pleased an employee is with his work and workplace. In the following study, the relation is elucidated between Work Locus of Control and job satisfaction and between length of service and job satisfaction. Work Locus of Control means that individuals with internal WLoC consider themselves as individuals who need to control events and different situations that happen at their jobs. The ones with external WLoC put the responsibilities for different situations in extraneous circumstances (Spector, 1982). In the survey it was revealed that WLoC along with length of service significantly predicts the degree of job satisfaction (R2= ,430 , p&lt; ,0005). The variables were examined separately and showed that WLoC significantly predict the degree of job satisfaction (R2= ,418 , p&lt; ,0005), although length of service did not (p= ,282). Explanations to the results were discussed.

Abstract:
Despite increased access to care and interventions aimed to change health behavior, socioeconomic health disparities have remained unchanged, even for preventable illness and disease. Health behavior theories and interventions heavily rely on perceptions of control over one's fate and thus ignore populations with low perceptions of personal control. Poverty is associated with an external locus of control (LOC), while both poverty and external LOC are associated with less health protective behavior. The purpose of this quantitative study was to explore the role of LOC as an adaptive response to poverty and to discover the risks and benefits to physical and psychological health associated with LOC orientation. Using cross-sectional survey methodology, 136 adult participants from the United States were recruited through snowball sampling to anonymously complete measures of the Multidimensional Locus of Control (MLOC), the Health Promoting Lifestyles II (LPII), the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (KP10), and a demographic questionnaire. Hierarchical regression and bivariate analyses were used to test the hypotheses. According to the study findings, chance LOC mediated the relationship between socioeconomics and health lifestyles, while external-chance was associated with less healthy lifestyle choices than external-powerful others. Internality did not offer any psychological protections from anxiety and depression for low socioeconomic populations. Implications for social change are to further the understanding of the role of perceived control on health beliefs, behavior and psychological well-being for marginalized populations to promote the development of appropriately targeted, culturally sensitive health interventions.

Abstract:
This thesis develops the theoretical construct of "relatedness." Relatedness is defined as a sense of connectedness or meaning which provides for acceptance and serenity in the face of "the things I cannot change" and is an empirical extension of the work of Victor Frankl in Man's Search for Meaning. To examine the possible interaction between locus of control and an hypothesized "relatedness" phenomenon, four hundred forty four students of introductory psychology at the University of Arizona were given the Rotter Social Reaction Inventory and the Antonovsky Sense of Coherence Scale. A subscale measuring relatedness was constructed by factor analysis of Rotter and Antonovsky items combined. Five subscales of the Rotter were identified by factor analysis. Correlation was performed between the Relatedness subscale and the Rotter and its various subscales. Regression procedures were applied using Relatedness and Sex as independent variables and the Rotter as the dependent variable.

The purpose of this study was to examine how work locus of control and self-esteem relate to job satisfaction. Quantitative data were collected through an online questionnaire. The study included 126 participants who filled out the Short Index of Job Satisfaction, Work Locus of Control Scale and Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale. It was hypothesized that work locus of control and self-esteem would be related to job satisfaction. Multiple regression analysis showed strong relations between the variables. Work locus of control and self-esteem explained 23 % of the variance in job satisfaction, which suggests that other variables also affect job satisfaction. The result from the study was consistent with previous research indicating that internal work locus of control and self-esteem predict job satisfaction. Future research is needed to investigate how individuals’ internal locus of control and self-esteem at the workplace could be increased.<br>Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka hur work locus of control och självkänsla relaterar till arbetstrivsel. Studien omfattade totalt 126 deltagare som fyllde i Short Index of Job Satisfaction, Work Locus of Control Scale och Rosenbergs Self-Esteem Scale.

För att mäta variablerna användes Work Locus of Control-skalan, items ur Survey of Perceived Organizational Support samt Overall Job Satisfaction. Resultaten visar inte någon signifikant skillnad i Work Locus of Control mellan anställda inom offentlig och privat sektor.<br>Employees' perceived control over their work situation varies from person to person and can to some extent depend on their age and how they perceive their environment in the workplace. The purpose of this study was to investigate possible connections between Work Locus of Control and Perceived Organizational Support, Job Satisfaction and age. Data collection was performed by handing out a survey to officials with administrative duties within the public and private sectors in southern Sweden. The sample consists of 74 participants (17 men and 57 women). To measure the variables, the Work Locus of Control Scale, items from the Survey of Perceived Organizational Support and Overall Job Satisfaction, were used. The survey also included background questions. A correlation analysis of the variables yielded that the work locus of control scale has significant correlations with the studied variables. The results are in line with previous research, indicating that individuals which to a greater extent perceive themselves able to control their work situation also experience higher organizational support and higher job satisfaction, and that perceived control is higher for older individuals. A multiple regression analysis shows that a high Job Satisfaction is the best predictor of an internal Work Locus of Control. The results show no significant difference in Work Locus of Control between employees in the public and private sectors.

Abstract:
Thesis (MTech(Education in the School ofTeachers Education)) --Cape Technikon, Cape Town, 1996<br>Students today fuce increasing demands and challenges. This has important implications for education and its relevance in a rapidly changing world. It is against this background that the problem ofsuccess or failure at tertiary level, especially in the first year of study, is particularly significant as is evident from increased interest in and research undertaken into the factors and determinants involved in success or failure. Two variables that have received considerable attention in recent studies are (1) approaches to studying and (2) locus of control. They have been investigated both as independent factors and as part of a cluster of factors, but the relationship between these two variables has not yet been explored within the technikon context. In terms of students' approaches to studying there are two important schools of thought. One model (Entwistle & Ramsden, 1983) focuses on qualitative differences between the different categories ofapproaches to studying. In terms ofthis model students are classified as either using a reproducing/surface, a meaningldeep or an achieving/strategic approach. The 'Qualitative Individual Differences' model (Meyer, Parsons & Dunne, 1990a; 1990b), emphasises the qualitative individual differences in terms ofstudents' approaches to studying. This model defines the concept ofstudy orchestration as the contextualised study approach individual or groups of students adopt. The term orchestration captures the unique nature of individual approaches to studying viewed as a qualitative responsive approach to a qualitatively perceived educational context. The first model therefore views approaches to studying mainly from the point ofview of categorical differences, whereas the second focuses on qualitative individual (across and within categories) differences. In this study students' approaches to studying were measured by the Extended Approaches to Studying Inventory (EASI), a variation on the original Approaches to Studying Inventory (ASI) developed by Entwistle & Ramsden (1983)

Abstract:
Today it seems as if each individual is responsible for choosing his/her mate. Historically, this process has been mainly regulated by culture, family and society, which make the rules and norms, and defines suitable behaviors in the mate selection process. This research aimed at constructing a scale to analyze if people consider themselves responsible for the choice of their partner and to what extent. A qualitative study using ATLAS.ti content analysis resulted in different theoretical factors. A second study sought to corroborate the theoretical factors using a principal component analysis, determining the following factors: Destiny-Predestination, Powerful Microcosm, and Internal Control factor, which explain 50.94% of the variance with 17 items. The instrument shows that the locus of control in mate choice is not a continuum that moves between internality and externality but, rather, it is multidimensional.<br>En la actualidad pareciera que cada individuo es responsable de la elección de pareja, sin embargo, históricamente ha sido regulado por la cultura, familia y sociedad, quienes marcan las reglas, normas y conductas adecuadas para dicha elección. Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to examine personality factors related to adult divorce adjustment with a particular focus on anxiety, self esteem and locus of control.;Bowen Theory, with particular emphasis on the concept of differentiation of self, provided the theoretical rationale for this study. While Bowen related his concepts to marital and family functioning, the theory did not address the process of divorce. The present study attempted to fill a gap in the divorce literature by expanding Bowen Theory, with a primary investigative focus on adult post divorce adjustment and level of differentiation.;All 62 research subjects completed instrument packets which included a consent form, a demographic questionnaire, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, the Tennessee Self Concept Scale, the Rotter Internal-External Scale, The Blair Divorce Adjustment Inventory (modified version), and the Haber Level of Differentiation of Self Scale.;Data from the participants included a sample of 26 men and 36 women. A large percentage of the subjects were 20-39 years of age (67.5%), of middle class status (59%), had marriages which tended to last a duration of less than 10 years (66%), and had children under the age of 18 (46.7%). The results from the instruments indicated a sample who were internally directed, had a moderate level of self concept, and a low level of both State and Trait anxiety. When the variables of divorce adjustment and level of differentiation were computed, the results indicated that the sample exhibited high levels of differentiation and moderate to strong levels of divorce adjustment.;The Tennessee Self Concept Scale exhibited the strongest correlation coefficient when measured with both the Blair Divorce Adjustment Inventory (58%) and the Haber Level of Differentiation of Self Scale (51%). Step-wise analysis indicated that both the Tennessee with a t-ratio of 2.220 and a p-value of.030, and the Trait level of anxiety, with a t-value of {dollar}-{dollar}2.156 and a p-value of.035 resulted in high predictive values with the Blair. When the personality variables were computed with the Level of Differentiation Scale, the results were similar to the Blair analysis. The Tennessee obtained the strongest predictive value. as with divorce adjustment, self concept was the strongest predictor of level of differentiation. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).

Myers, Jacqueline. "Employee Locus of Control and Engagement in Nonprofit Organizations." ScholarWorks, 2014. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/122.

Abstract:
Transformational leadership and employee engagement have been studied in the private sector, yet research in the nonprofit sector is scarce. Addressing this gap is important to improve nonprofit practices, as nonprofit organizations contribute to a myriad of social issues critical to positive social change. Using Burns's theory of transformational leadership, which places emphasis on motivating and inspiring performance through a shared vision and mission, the purpose of this quantitative study was to analyze the effects of transformational leadership on employee engagement in nonprofit organizations. The study also assessed whether locus of control acted as a mediating variable on employee engagement. Locus of control may explain differences in the effect of transformational leadership on engagement in those with an internal locus of control (self-motivating-lesser effect) versus an external locus of control (motivated by external forces-greater effect). Data were obtained from emailed surveys of employees of 30 nonprofit organizations (N = 155). The surveys consisted of the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire, the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, and the Work Locus of Control Scale. Multiple logistic regression revealed a significant positive relationship between transformational leadership and employee engagement. No significant evidence was found to indicate that locus of control acted as a mediating variable with regard to engagement. Understanding the effect of transformational leadership on employee engagement may enable nonprofit organizations to improve their effectiveness in programs and services, thereby contributing to positive social change.

Abstract:
I undersökningen deltog 147 gymnasielever ifrån fem skolor i Kronobergs län. Nyckelord: Syskonplacering, health locus of control, intern- och extern locus of control, kön.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis presents rules that characterize the root locus for polynomials that are nonlinear in the root-locus parameter k. Classical root locus applies to polynomials that are affine in k. In contrast, this thesis considers polynomials that are quadratic or cubic in k. In particular, we focus on constructing the root locus for linear feedback control systems, where the closed-loop denominator polynomial is quadratic or cubic in k. First, we present quadratic root-locus rules for a controller class that yields a closed-loop denominator polynomial that is quadratic in k. Next, we develop cubic root-locus rules for a controller class that yields a closed-loop denominator polynomial that is cubic in k. Finally, we extend the quadratic root-locus rules to accommodate a larger class of controllers. We also provide controller design examples to demonstrate the quadratic and cubic root locus. For example, we show that the triple integrator can be high-gain stabilized using a controller that yields a closed-loop denominator polynomial that is quadratic in k. Similarly, we show that the quadruple integrator can be high-gain stabilized using a controller that yields a closed-loop denominator polynomial that is cubic in k.
