Abstract:
Kata Kunci: Social Loafing, Locus of control, Tugas KelompokAbstract: This study uses a quantitative approach, intended to determine the effect of locus of control, both internally and externally on social loafing in completing group assignments. Social loafing is a phenomenon of decreasing individual performance (effort) in group-based assignments, thing which of course will have an impact on group performance and satisfaction. Sampling in this study used accidental sampling on population college students of education majors (prospective teachers), with the total number of participants as many as 147 college students (45 scale tests, 102 hypothesis tests). The measurement of each variable modifies the scale construct from previous research, which refers to Levenson for locus of control and Latane for social loafing. Data collection uses a psychological scale in the form of a questionnaire, analyzed using linear regression tests to determine how much influence locus of control both internally and externally on social loafing. Internal locus of control in this study proved to be able to reduce social loafing (sig. 0,000), with R Square Value (influence contribution) in the coefficient of determination table worth 0.211 or 21.1%, while external Locus of control did not contribute influence at all. Keywords: Social Loafing, Locus of control, Group Tasks

Abstract:

Abstract:
We examined the influence of locus of control on the relationship between social exclusion and preference for distinctive choices. Participants were 212 undergraduate students at a university in Central China, who completed measures of social exclusion, locus of control, choice, and perceived uniqueness. Results showed that participants who believed that the environment controlled their fate (external locus of control) preferred more distinctive choices in a social exclusion context than in a social inclusion context, whereas participants who believed that they could control the environment (internal locus of control) preferred less distinctive choices. Further, perceived uniqueness mediated the effect of social exclusion and locus of control on choice. These results add to the literature on social exclusion and personal control.

Abstract:
The main aim of this study is to investigate the mediator role of perceived social support in the relationship between general causality orientations and locus of control with psychopathological symptoms. Total 751 participants were consisted of 558 female ages between 17 and 36 (Female M = 19.03, SD = 0.09) (74.3%), 192 male ages between 17 and 37 (Male M = 20.71, SD = 0.17) (25.6%) and a participant who did not provide any gender information. We used the General Causality Orientations Scale (GCOS) and Locus of Control Scale (LOCS) in order to understand the basic motivation for the emergence of behavior. Beck depression Inventory (BDI) used to evaluate the psychological symptoms for depression, Maudsley Obsessive Compulsive Inventory (MOCI) for obsessive-compulsive symptomology and Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) for overall psychological distress and finally to evaluate mediating role of social support used the Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS). According to the results, having internal locus of control and autonomy orientation have shown positive effect to statistically significant predictors for psychological symptomology, having external locus of control and impersonal orientation have shown negative effect. Perceived social support was found to be suited for the role of partial mediator, and social support from friends was found to have more positive roles than social support from family. In conclusion, exceedingly considerable to conduct further research in order to contribute to the understanding of the mediating role of general causality orientations and locus of control with psychopathology symptomology.

Abstract:
Purpose Despite recent advances in research on antecedents of social entrepreneurial intentions, founder social identity has rarely been part of the research effort. This paper aims to investigate how different types of founder social identity affect social entrepreneurial intentions (SE intentions). Design/methodology/approach This study investigates how different types of founder social identity, such as Darwinians, Communitarians and Missionaries, affect SE intentions. Specifically, this study predicts that entrepreneurs with Darwinian identity would be less likely to form SE intentions, while those with Missionary and Communitarian identities would be more prone to form SE intentions. The hypotheses are tested on a sample of 725 individuals recruited using Amazon Mechanical Turk. Most of the hypotheses, except for Communitarian identity, are supported by the data analysis. The results contribute to the literature on founder social identity and SE intentions and demonstrate that founder social identity is one of the important antecedents of social entrepreneurial intentions. Findings Two of the hypotheses were supported by the results. Specifically, this study found a positive relation between Missionary founder social identity (its locus of self-definition is “Impersonal-We”) and social entrepreneurial intentions. This research also confirms that Darwinian founder social identity (its locus of self-definition is “I”) has a negative impact on social entrepreneurial intentions. Originality/value First, a person’s social identity has been largely overlooked in social entrepreneurship intention literature (Bacq and Alt, 2018; Hockerts, 2017; Zaremohzzabieh et al, 2019). The findings provide the empirical evidence that individual-level antecedents, especially one’s membership in a social group (i.e. social identity), exert a significant impact on the formation of SE intentions. Second, among the two types of founder social identity predicted to have a positive influence on SE intentions, only Missionary identity was found to have such a positive impact. The typical Communitarian locus of self-definition of “Personal We,” is less influential than the self-definition of the typical Missionary locus of “Impersonal We.” This might imply that not all types of feelings of belonging to a community have a positive impact on the formation and development of social entrepreneurial intentions. Finally, this study found that Darwinians are less likely to pursue social entrepreneurship although the definition of Darwinians is close to the definition of traditional entrepreneurs (e.g. profit/opportunity seekers). This may signify that the traditional concept of entrepreneurship may not be enough to explain different types of entrepreneurial motivations (e.g. social vs commercial entrepreneurship).

Abstract:
Social and cultural conditions (including U.S. border and inland influence, role models within the family, and educational background) which affect locus of control and achievement motivation among Mexican entrepreneurs were explored among 64 selected entrepreneurs in two Mexican towns, one on the Mexico-U.S. border, the other located inland. Analyses showed that the border subsample scored higher on External locus of control; however, in both subsamples the father was an important element in the locus of control variable and the entrepreneur status. No statistically significant mean difference was noted for achievement motivation. Practical applications and limitations are discussed.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In order to evaluate the cognitive appraisal and meaning-making components of the Transactional Model (Lazarus & Folkman, 1984) and Meaning-making Model (Park & Folkman, 1997) of coping, several specific forms of appraisal and coping strategies were analyzed in the present study. It has been proposed that religiousness and time influence the meaning-making process (Park, 2005); therefore, an interaction of intrinsic religiousness and time were key variables in the study as well. A survey designed to address relationships among locus of control, type of situation, intrinsic religious orientation, specific coping styles, and maladaptive psychological symptoms was administered to 240 students of a regional university. Evidence was found for the importance of primary cognitive appraisal, but no evidence was found for the interaction of intrinsic religious orientation and time on meaning-making coping or psychological symptoms.

Working from the theory paradigm of role "symbolic interactionist", taking advantage the sociological methodology of the Jean-Paul Willaime and transplanting these resources to the sociological Brazilian Protestantism's reality, this study showed that during the historical course, since the insertion of Protestant mission in Brazil, even the most significant change in the Brazilian religious field with the emergence of neo-pentecostalism, Protestant Ministers connected to brazilian historical religious denominations suffered a gradual loss or restriction of their social importance. The study also found that this loss or restriction in their social locus generates a natural response in order to reconquer their condition of social plenitude. This natural response interposes as the vital sociological problem discussed in this research: what are the possible outputs for legitimating the Brazilian Protestant Minister.<br>O trabalho analisa o problema sociológico da perda de legitimidade social do pastor protestante brasileiro e avalia os caminhos que estes agentes sociais podem se utilizar para preencher esta lacuna psicossocial. Clayton, Erica Reynolds. "Self-Efficacy, Locus of Control, and Social Attitudes: Generation Media Responds to Teacher Commentary." Diss., The University of Arizona, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/195520.

Full text
Abstract:
In an effort to understand the ways that students perceive teacher commentary on their papers, I constructed and employed a study in the fall of 2000, sponsored by both the Council of Writing Program Administrators and the National Council for Teachers of English The study involved four trained graduate instructors from The University of Arizona English Department and approximately twenty-five, first-year composition students from a section belonging to each instructor. Specifically, I was curious about the ways that formative evaluation, that is, teacher commentary provided during the drafting stage of the writing process, affected students during their writing processes from a cognitive, emotive, and behavioral perspective. In other words, I was asking if students: (1) understood teacher comments as they were intended; (2) whether certain comments evoked positive or negative emotion in students; (3) based on the comments provided did students choose to revise; and (4) if students did choose to revise, why did they do so and in what way?Questions concerning the way teacher commentary affects students are important ones to ask because the ways that students are affected by feedback can also affect their perception of their abilities and their willingness to perform a task in the future. Equally of import is questioning the way a student comes to the teacher's text. Social psychologists suggest that one's state of mind upon receiving feedback inform the ways in which the feedback received. And finally, it is believed that isolated demographic populations, thanks to the stimuli and mores of their particular era and environment, may react to feedback from authority figures in surprising but similar ways.My research uncovers that students' self-efficacy and perceived locus of control, both tenets of social and cognitive psychology, indeed influence the way that they perceive teacher commentary and the way that they respond behaviorally through revision practices. I also suggest that contemporary students, deluged by media and entertainment, may not be responsive to teacher commentary, especially when it is perceived as negative in ways that writing teachers might not anticipate.

School Psychology<br>Ph.D.<br>The current study examines predictors of math achievement and college graduation by integrating social learning theory and expectancy-value theory. Data came from a nationally-representative longitudinal database tracking 12,144 students over twelve years from 8th grade forward. Models for math achievement and college graduation were tested through structural equation modeling. Consistent with earlier research, previous math achievement predicted both outcomes. Performance expectancies and task-specific self-concept respectively predicted math achievement and college graduation, although the contribution of task-specific self-concept was smaller than shown in previous research. The social learning theory concept of behavior potential was found to be a predictor of college graduation but not math achievement. Limitations and implications are discussed, with a focus on future research questions.<br>Temple University--Theses

Lopez, Eliot Jay. "Perceptions of Control and Social Support: Correlates of HIV-Related Self-Efficacy." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2011. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc68003/.

Full text
Abstract:
This study examines the extent to which locus of control and social support are linked to self-efficacy with regard to disease management in HIV-positive adults. Perceived ability to effectively manage illness was measured with the Self-Efficacy for Managing Chronic Disease Scale. Scores from the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support and the Multidimensional Locus of Control Scale were used as predictors. The gender-balanced sample (N = 69) of HIV+ adults was primarily African-American (65.3%) and European American (30.5%), with a mean age of 47 years (SD = 8.37). Correlational analyses suggested significant positive relationships between self-efficacy, social support, and locus of control due to powerful others. A regression analysis found that the model accounted for 23% of the variance in self-efficacy (adj. R-squared =.23, F (5, 63) = 4.81, p < .01), with social support (&#946; = .37, t = 3.28, p < .01) and locus of control (&#946; = .25, t = 2.26, p < .05) both significant predictors. Results suggest that social support and locus of control contribute to the belief that HIV can be managed. Interestingly, an external locus of control contributed to this belief, perhaps due to the perception of a physician, religious icon, or partner as a "powerful other." Results suggest that a strong supportive relationship with a trusted other along with enhanced social support typically associated with group-based interventions may improve health outcomes by increasing self-efficacy in disease management in HIV-positive adults.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Although forgiveness has been associated with reduced anxiety in several studies, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is an anxiety disorder, the potential association between forgiveness and obsessive-compulsiveness has been generally unexplored. The current study examined the association between three dimensions of forgiveness and obsessive-compulsive (OC) symptoms as mediated by locus of control (LOC) in a college student sample (N = 241). Forgiveness of self (FS) and of others, but not feeling forgiven by God, were associated with overall OC symptoms and with a majority of symptom subscales. LOC was limited in its role as a mediator that was restricted to associations with FS. Furthermore, LOC-Chance was the only dimension found to be a specific mediator, as control attributed internally and to powerful others did not mediate any of the forgiveness-OC associations. These findings are discussed in the context of both past and future research related to forgiveness, obsessive-compulsiveness, and control constructs.

Abstract:
What can anthropological and folkloristic approaches to food, gender, and medicine tell us about these topics in the Middle Ages beyond the textual evidence itself? Women, Food, and Diet in the Middle Ages: Balancing the Humours uses these approaches to look at the textual traditions of dietary recommendations for women’s health, placed within the context of the larger cultural concerns of gender roles and Church teachings about women. Women are expected to be nurturers, healers, and the primary locus of food provisioning for families, especially women of the lower social classes, typically overlooked in the written record. This work illuminates what we can know about women, food, medicine, and diet in the Middle Ages, and examines how the written medical tradition interacts with folk medicine and other cultural factors in both understanding women’s bodies and their roles as healers and food providers.
