Abstract:

Cet article analyse l'évolution des inondations dans la ville de Douala à partir des méthodes permettant de calculer une valeur de débit maximum à l'aide des données météorologiques sur une période de 35 ans (1985-2019). Une base de données sur les inondations créée à l'aide d'informations issues de la presse montre que Douala est fréquemment inondée durant la saison des pluies par des systèmes précipitants en V associés à la mousson. On observe ainsi une augmentation du nombre d'inondations rapportées depuis les années 2010, qui semble corrélée avec l'évolution de l'emprise urbaine de la ville. Les zones urbaines inondées de façon récurrente sont le plus souvent les quartiers « informels » construits directement en zones inondables et dont l'accroissement est important depuis les années 1990. L'étude des inondations du 2 et 3 août 2000 à Douala indique qu'on avait une situation synoptique propice à de fortes précipitations. On peut par l'exemple noter que l'humidité relative était presque de 99 %, ce qui implique que l'air est saturé en eau avec une chute de température. L'intérêt de cette étude est de réduire la vulnérabilité en intégrant les populations et les décideurs au coeur des stratégies de développement et de gestion urbaine des risques liés aux aléas climatiques. This article analyzes the temporal evolution of flooding in the urban area of Douala using methods allowing to compute a maximum flow value using meteorological data over a period of 35 years (1985-2019). A flood database is created using information from the press showing that Douala is frequently flooded during the rainy season by V-shaped precipitating systems associated to the monsoon. We can thus observe an increase in the number of floods reported since the 2010s, which seems to be correlated with the evolution of the city's urban footprint. The recurrently flooded urban areas are most often informal neighbourhoods built directly in flood-prone areas and whose increase has been significant since the 1990s. The case study of the floods of August 2 and 3, 2000 in Douala indicates that there was a synoptic situation conducive to heavy rainfall. On the other hand, relative humidity is almost 99 % which requires the air to be saturated with water with a drop in temperature, which will cause a change of state. The purpose of this study is to reduce vulnerability by integrating populations and decision-makers at the heart of development strategies and urban risk management related to climatic hazards.

Résumé En 1987, le Cameroun s’est doté d’un Comité d’éthique de la recherche (cer). Mais ce n’est qu’en 2005 que l’attention du public a été attirée sur les défis fonctionnels de ce comité, alors qu’un essai clinique controversé testait un antirétroviral pour la prévention du vih, à Douala. Cependant, peu d’écrits discutent de la structure du cer et de son adéquation par rapport aux contextes géographique et académique du pays. Basé sur une revue de la littérature et de documents administratifs locaux, cet article est une réflexion sur l’éthique de la recherche au Cameroun, avec un accent particulier sur la structure et le fonctionnement de son cer. Il est proposé qu’un modèle de cer mixte, incluant un bureau national et des comités régionaux, qui théoriquement serait mieux adapté au contexte du local.

Abstract:

La survenue d’un enfant infirme moteur cérébral (IMC) impose un bouleversement dans la vie du parent et oblige à faire le deuil de l’enfant imaginaire, à confronter l’enfant du désir à l’enfant réel. L’objectif est de saisir la réalité psychique subjective des parents ayant un enfant IMC au Cameroun. Se basant sur la méthode clinique et l’analyse thématique de contenue des verbatims, trois entretiens clinique de recherche par participants ont été menés auprès de quatre mères d’enfants IMC rencontrées dans un centre de prise en charge et de rééducation fonctionnelle à Douala (Cameroun). Bien que le vécu de la grossesse soit motivé par un certain désir individuel d’une partbet les exigences de la communauté d’appartenance d’autre part, les analyses montrent que la confrontation au réel de l’enfant IMC s’est faite avec beaucoup de souffrance et un retentissement subjectif très perceptible. Un ensemble de symptômes psychopathologiques (troubles de sommeil, dépression, tristesse, stress) a été recensé avec une intensification due à des représentations culturelles à connotation négative. D’où la nécessité d’envisager un espace de parole et d’échange afin d’accompagner psychologiquement les parents concernées et éviter le risque d’effondrement psychique et relationnel.

Abstract:

This study examines if the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) can be applied to the Douala Stock Exchange. The study utilized monthly stock returns from the three companies listed on the Douala Stock Exchange (DSX), for the period 30th April 2009 to 31st August 2017. Ordinary Least Square regression analysis was adopted for the study to examine if individual stocks can predict a better stock beta. The Black, Jensen, and Scholes (1972) CAPM version were also examined in this study to assess the validity of the zero beta estimate. The result of the individual estimates could not establish the validity of the CAPM theory. Further analysis showed that the Beta for the three assets combined portfolio was not statistically significant. However, when two securities were combined into a single asset portfolio, the portfolio bêta was statistically significant. The significant result of the two asset portfolio confirms that Beta was a linear function of security returns in the DSX market. The study concludes that there will be a need for the government of Cameroun to liberalize the DSX market and allow more firms to be quoted on the floor of the exchange. This decision will allow for the deepening of the DSX market, enhance the liquidity level of the market, and enable investors to reap adequate returns from their investment through holding a portfolio of assets.

Abstract:

The main aim of this study is to evaluate the working conditions of some women who supply plantain bananas to markets in Douala. Surveys were conducted among 60 women along National Road 5. This study revealed that the supply chain is dominated by older women (47 years old). Nearly half were married contrary to what one might have thought. Furthermore majority of these women were from the Western Region (76%) and were more experience; to carry out this activity Nevertheless they were faced with difficulties such as Long working hours from 4 am to midnight (than 15 hours) s, braving the risk of aggression and accidents. Their goods were best transported by bus or trucks to the rural markets. In order to purchase this product they are subjected to a lot of challenges and in addition to this, their physical condition must be in order. Another challenge faced by these women is the long waiting hours for trucks or buses to come by. This can take 2–6 hours before the buses arrive. In addition, the activity is mostly appreciated by the actors who do contribute to the economic empowerment of women, because it is profitable. However, they are faced with several constraints such as: theft, insecurity; high cost of transportation; lack of information; poor road infrastructure; police harassment; difficulties to have a warehouse to facilitate the storage and conservation conditions, etc. Due to these constraints, the commercial potential of women is hindered and much lower than it could be.
