Abstract:
In this paper we present results of uniform logical cryptanalysis method applied to cryptographic hash function CubeHash. During the last decade, some of the most popular cryptographic hash functions were broken. Therefore, in 2007, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), announced an international competition for a new Hash Standard called SHA-3. Only 14 candidates passed first two selection rounds and CubeHash is one of them. A great effort is made in their analysis and comparison. Uniform logical cryptanalysis presents an interesting method for this purpose. Universal, adjustable to almost any cryptographic hash function, very fast and reliable, it presents a promising method in the world of cryptanalysis.

Abstract:
Abstract This account augments Peirce's concept of consciousness in two ways: 1) it highlights its double nature and 2) it explores how this two-sided consciousness advances modal logic. Double consciousness facilitates inferencing in that differences between old information and new information are noticed; logical conflicts between the two can then be explored and resolved expeditiously. This often natural but a forced need to consider new facts in light of old ones provides a scaffold for a higher level of consciousness, namely, self and heterocriticism — inciting interpreters to attend to the new facts, to intentionally compare facts and propositions, and to reflect upon the reasons for their comparative efficacy. In his call to double consciousness, Peirce enlivens us to draw deeply from the well of logical and practical affordances — surprising events and sustained interactive platforms. Peirce’s call requires us to utilize consciousness from its very basic level: attention to stimuli, awareness of unexpected facts, mental wrestling of effort and resistance, and finally synthetic consciousness which engenders binding frames of legitimate meanings from reliable genres. In this effort, Peirce informs us that the most reliable inferencing can only be ascertained by weighing ego with non-ego — through an active course of careful synthesis.

Abstract:
AbstractIn standard model-theoretic semantics, the meaning of logical terms is said to be fixed in the system while that of nonlogical terms remains variable. Much effort has been devoted to characterizing logical terms, those terms that should be fixed, but little has been said on their role in logical systems: on what fixing their meaning precisely amounts to. My proposal is that when a term is considered logical in model theory, what gets fixed is its intension rather than its extension. I provide a rigorous way of spelling out this idea, and show that it leads to a graded account of logicality: the less structure a term requires in order for its intension to be fixed, the more logical it is. Finally, I focus on the class of terms that are invariant under isomorphisms, as they render themselves more easily to mathematical treatment. I propose a mathematical measure for the logicality of such terms based on their associated Löwenheim numbers.

Abstract:
The widespread and rapid proliferation of logical systems in several areas of computer science has led to a resurgence of interest in various methods for combining logical systems and in investigations into the properties inherited by the resulting combinations. One of the oldest such methods isfibring. In fibring the shared connectives of the combined logics inherit properties frombothcomponent logical systems, and this leads often to inconsistencies. To deal with such undesired effects, Sernadas et al. (2011, 2012) have recently introduced a novel way of combining logics, calledmeet-combination, in which the combined connectives share only thecommonlogical properties they enjoy in the component systems. In their investigations they provide a sound and concretely complete calculus for the meet-combination based on available sound and complete calculi for the component systems. In this work, an effort is made to abstract those results to a categorical level amenable tocategorical abstract algebraic logictechniques.

Abstract:
The multistep development of cancer involves the cooperation between multiple molecular lesions, as well as complex interactions between cancer cells and the surrounding tumour microenvironment. The search for these synergistic interactions using experimental models made tremendous contributions to our understanding of oncogenesis. Yet, these approaches remain labour-intensive and challenging. To tackle such a hurdle, an integrative, multidisciplinary effort is required. In this article, we highlight the use of logical computational models, combined with experimental validations, as an effective approach to identify cooperative mechanisms and therapeutic strategies in the context of cancer biology. In silico models overcome limitations of reductionist approaches by capturing tumour complexity and by generating powerful testable hypotheses. We review representative examples of logical models reported in the literature and their validation. We then provide further analyses of our logical model of Epithelium to Mesenchymal Transition (EMT), searching for additional cooperative interactions involving inputs from the tumour microenvironment and gain of function mutations in NOTCH.

Abstract:
It is often desirable that referring expressions be chosen in such a way that their referents are easy to identify. This article focuses on referring expressions in hierarchically structured domains, exploring the hypothesis that referring expressions can be improved by including logically redundant information in them if this leads to a significant reduction in the amount of search that is needed to identify the referent. Generation algorithms are presented that implement this idea by including logically redundant information into the generated expression, in certain well-circumscribed situations. To test our hypotheses, and to assess the performance of our algorithms, two controlled experiments with human subjects were conducted. The first experiment confirms that human judges have a preference for logically redundant expressions in the cases where our model predicts this to be the case. The second experiment suggests that readers benefit from the kind of logical redundancy that our algorithms produce, as measured in terms of the effort needed to identify the referent of the expression.

Aristotle's vigorous vindication of rhetoric pairs it with dialectic. Dialectic, for Aristotle, combines logical propositions with induction from rigorous evidence in an effort to prove a case beyond doubt. Rhetoric parallels dialectic, but combines arguments with examples in an effort to persuade. Neither one amounts to science, which for Aristotle requires irrefutable establishment of general principles. political: arguing for or against a proposed course of action;forensic: attacking or defending someone;ceremonial: praising or condemning someone.

Abstract:
Digital fingerprints are being used more and more to secure applications for logical and physical access control. In order to guarantee security and privacy trends, a biometric system is often implemented on a secure element to store the biometric reference template and for the matching with a probe template (on-card-comparison). In order to assess the performance and robustness against attacks of these systems, it is necessary to better understand which information could help an attacker successfully impersonate a legitimate user. The first part of the paper details a new attack based on the use of a priori information (such as the fingerprint classification, sensor type, image resolution or number of minutiae in the biometric reference) that could be exploited by an attacker. In the second part, a new countermeasure against brute force and zero effort attacks based on fingerprint classification given a minutiae template is proposed. These two contributions show how fingerprint classification could have an impact for attacks and countermeasures in embedded biometric systems. Experiments show interesting results on significant fingerprint datasets.

Abstract:
Strategic management implementation in public sector study has nowadays become the most commonly researched area among public administration scholars and researchers. However, to the best of our knowledge, there has been no attempt to investigate the influence of the implementation style and the middle management on the Strategic Management Implementation (SMI) and organizational performance (OP). There is a paucity of studies that have been undertaken in developing countries. This study aims to fulfil this research gap, investigated in the moderated mediation effect of the combination of the implementation style and middle management effort in the relationship between SMI and OP. The study data was collected on a sample of 468 public managers in the Togolese central government organizations. The findings show that public organisations that opt for logical implementation style in its program implementation result in a non-significant estimate at the mean and 1SD below the middle management effort (W). However, in the organization that applies incremental implementation style in its program implementation, the estimates at mean, 1SD below and 1SD above the mean of the W are all statistically significant. Developing country public sector organisations characterized by traditional bureaucracy and lack of administrative reform program implementation that opt for logical implementation style will likely decrease performance.

AbstractThis paper argues for a psychosocial theory of courtroom argumentation. Its central thesis is the deconstruction of the deceptive shifts of courtroom dynamics between the veneer of logical propriety and the emotional prescription buried below. Selected observations on the androcentric bias of the sciences, on linguistic convention as gendered historical ambition, and on alternatives to the dominant logical mode of reasoning and argumentation constitute Part I. Part II critically analyzes selected cases for courtroom alternatives. In an effort to reclaim non-linguistic discourse, Part III synthesizes the emotional mode of argumentation and reasoning with feminist spheres of relevance and reasonableness. The conclusion: that such a synthesis may combine with the rational to present a model for our legal system

Abstract:
The present article proposes that the variety of existing managerial practices collectively described as “customer relationship management” can be organized and coordinated into a logical sequence of goals and methods that is more effective than performing them in an uncoordinated fashion. The model proposes that managers have five distinct but interrelated goals: customer acquisition, customer retention, customer development, customer consultation, and customer conversion. Although each goal can be achieved using distinct and well-known marketing practices, the model integrates the practices in a temporal and logical order in which achieving one goal contributes to achieving other goals. Integrating the procedures and technologies used at each stage results is a synergistic effort that should benefit companies and can guide empirical research.

Abstract:
Logical connectives (e.g., or, if, and not) are central to everyday conversation, and the inferences they generate are made with little effort in pragmatically sound situations. In contrast, the neural substrates of logical inference-making have been studied exclusively in abstract tasks where pragmatic concerns are minimal. Here, we used fMRI in an innovative design that employed narratives to investigate the interaction between logical reasoning and pragmatic processing in natural discourse. Each narrative contained three premises followed by a statement. In Fully-deductive stories, the statement confirmed a conclusion that followed from two steps of disjunction–elimination (e.g., Xavier considers Thursday, Friday, or Saturday for inviting his girlfriend out; he removes Thursday before he rejects Saturday and declares “I will invite her out for Friday”). In Implicated-premise stories, an otherwise identical narrative included three premises that twice removed a single option from consideration (i.e., Xavier rejects Thursday for two different reasons). The conclusion therefore necessarily prompts an implication (i.e., Xavier must have removed Saturday from consideration as well). We report two main findings. First, conclusions of Implicated-premise stories are associated with more activity than conclusions of Fully-deductive stories in a bilateral frontoparietal system, suggesting that these regions play a role in inferring an implicated premise. Second, brain connectivity between these regions increases with pragmatic abilities when reading conclusions in Implicated-premise stories. These findings suggest that pragmatic processing interacts with logical inference-making when understanding arguments in narrative discourse.

The writer elaborates the paradigm that used by al-mana>r’s author to investigate the reasons in giving various naming. As the result, those naming are understandable. This article investigated al-Mana>r paradigm into three perspectives. First, interpretation means an earnest effort which implemented to decide some cases which are not discussed in Qur’an and hadist. In consequence, human taught becomes an important aspect in interpreting. Second, all the effort is an attempt to make the interpretation of Qur’an as guidance (hida>yah). Then third, interpretation effort is an attempt to make Qur'an readers happiness in this world and in the hereafter. Al-Mana>r has inspired various interpreting works. Therefore, Al-Mana>r refers to the social interpreting (al-madrasah al-'aqliyah al-ijtima>'iyyah). Al-Mana>r paradigm can be categorized as rational paradigm because it puts sense in the important position. Muh}ammad 'Abduh argues that, "Logic is the main principal of Islam. The paper starts with an ultra-compact deposition on the two ubiquitouscomplementary dual pairwise organized methodological proceduresof episteme, i.e. the analytic method (analysis – synthesis)& the abstract process (abstraction – structure). Next, the authors examinesome ground rules and concepts pervading causality and inference andtheir junctions, attempting to discriminate between information flow inempiricism and theoretical causality of proof; only then is a connectionbetween them attempted and investigated. In the authors’ effort to establisha consistent theoretical outlook, if not approach, the technique of logicalinversions is also used as a partial yet powerful guide elucidating how successfultheir attempts were. Apart from clarifying some opaque concepts inlogic, in set theory and in the staple empiricism of science, this paper alsosets the stage for questioning whether some grave flaws could be locatedin traditional, save ill-founded, notions in hardcore science, on occasion ofthe par excellence typical example of fundamental and never challenged approaches in physics. The fact that something has been accepted as holdingdoes not at all mean that cracks may not be located in its epistemologicalmakeup at some posterior time. And it is the text’s task here to ask somepainful questions and try to set some realistic boundaries to things by aptlyutilizing available irresistible standard «tricks» from logic and from theclassical scientific method and from reverting to fruitful techniques and totelling examples, pushing hard for convincing answers.

Over the past decade, electromagnetic and communication science societies, along with improving the classical RFID technology, have put in a great deal of effort in designing novel and more complex UHF RFID tags with augmented capabilities. Novel tags offer additional functionalities besides identification by embedding sensors, actuators, and processing units. In this work an enhanced version of one of such devices, called SPARTACUS, is presented. While being completely passive, it conjugates identification, sensing, local computing, and actuation control and enables a proactive communication with any standard RFID reader. The study was a research and development (R & D) effort. The developmental design of the study was adopted from the procedures proposed by Borg & Gall. In the preliminary field testing, the researcher involved three fifth-grade students from SD Jetis, Bantul. Then, in the main field testing the researcher involved eight fifth-grade students who were not involved in the preliminary field testing. Finally, in the operational field testing the researcher involved 33 students from Grade VA. The product of this study will be an inquiry-based lectora multimedia. Based on the research and development that had been conducted, 117 material experts and 87 learning experts declared that the inquiry-based lectora multimedia development is feasible with “Highly Valid” assessment category. The inquiry-based lectora multimedia development is effective to increase the logical ability and the creative thinking of the fifth-grade students. From the operational field testing, the researcher found that p = 0.003 < 0.050 and this finding implies that there is an increase in the logical ability and the creative thinking of the fifth-grade students who had been taught using the inquiry-based lectora multimedia in comparison to the students who were not taught using the inquiry-based lectora multimedia.

Abstract:
Project planning is a critical activity in the software development life cycle. At the early stages of a project, the managers need to estimate required time, effort and cost to plan, track and then to deliver the project successfully. Many studies have attempted to provide methods for precise software cost estimation. The current software cost estimation methods are mainly based on software size estimation and functional system requirements. The main assumption of this study is that, as the primary source of complexity in today’s software is the interaction between the database and the user, database measures may provide inputs allowing current software estimation methods to achieve more accurate results. Accordingly, this study attempts to gain insights from objective measures, collected through the logical database model of software systems, for better prediction of the software’s effort and hence cost through software lines of code (SLOC) measure. For this purpose, more than 2.5 million lines of code developed by four different companies, for 79 different software packages with their related database design measures, are analyzed. The results of this study show that there is a close correlation between the software size and database design measure, namely, the number of tables which can be collected at the logical database design stage. By adapting this result, the current estimation models could be improved significantly.

Abstract:
V. L. Rvachev called R-functions ‘logically charged functions’ because they encode complete logical information within the standard setting of real analysis. He invented them in the 1960s as a means for unifying logic, geometry, and analysis within a common computational framework – in an effort to develop a new computationally effective language for modelling and solving boundary value problems. Over the last forty years, R-functions have been accepted as a valuable tool in computer graphics, geometric modelling, computational physics, and in many areas of engineering design, analysis, and optimization. Yet, many elements of the theory of R-functions continue to be rediscovered in different application areas and special situations. The purpose of this survey is to expose the key ideas and concepts behind the theory of R-functions, explain the utility of R-functions in a broad range of applications, and to discuss selected algorithmic issues arising in connection with their use.

Abstract:
Lately, the Internet of Things (IoT) has opened up new opportunities to business and enterprises; however, the cost of providing security and privacy best practices is preventing numerous organizations from adopting this innovation. With the proliferation of connecting devices in IoT, significant increases have been recorded in energy use, harmful contamination and e-waste. A new paradigm of green IoT is aimed at designing environmentally friendly protocols by reducing the carbon impact and promote efficient techniques for energy use. There is a consistent effort of designing distinctive security structures to address vulnerabilities and attacks. However, most of the existing schemes are not energy efficient. To bridge the gap, we propose the hybrid logical security framework (HLSF), which offers authentication and data confidentiality in IoT. HLSF uses a lightweight cryptographic mechanism for unique authentication. It enhances the level of security and provides better network functionalities using energy-efficient schemes. With extensive simulation, we compare HLSF with two existing popular security schemes, namely, constrained application protocol (CoAP) and object security architecture for IoT (OSCAR). The result shows that HLSF outperforms CoAP and OSCAR in terms of throughput with low computational, storage and energy overhead, even in the presence of attackers.

Abstract:
Document designers who present procedural instructions can choose several formats: prose, table, logical tree, or flow chart. In all cases, however, it is essential that the instructions are ordered in a way that allows users to reach the outcome in as little time as possible. In this article two formal methods are discussed that help determine which order is most efficient. The first method is based on the selection principle. The second method is based on the principle of the average least effort.

Abstract:
PurposeBateson's model of classifying different types of learning will be analyzed from a logical and technical point of view. While learning 0 has been realized for chess playing computers, learning I turns out today as the basic concept of artificial neural nets (ANN). All models of ANN are basically (non linear) data filters, which is the idea behind simple and behavioristic input‐output models.Design/methodology/approachThe paper will discuss technical systems designed on the concept of learning 0 and I and it will demonstrate that these models do not have an environment, i.e. they are non‐cognitive and therefore “non‐learning” systems.FindingsModels based on Bateson's category of Learning II differ fundamentally from Learning 0 and I. They cannot be modeled any longer on the basis of classical (mono‐contextural) logics. Technical artifacts which belong to this category have to be able to change their algorithms (behavior) by their own effort. Learning II turns out as a process which cannot be described or modeled on a sequential time axis. Learning II as a process belongs to the category of (parallel interwoven) heterarchical‐hierarchical process‐structures.Originality/valueIn order to model this kind of process‐structures the polycontextural theory has to be used – a theory which was introduced by the German‐American Philosopher and Logician Gotthard Günther (1900‐1984) and has been further developed by Rudolf Kaehr and others.

Abstract:
This research examined the main female character in the movie "Arrival" by Eric Heisserer. The focus of this research was to know the form of personality, desire, the fulfillment of desires, and to find out psychic conflict that is experienced by her by using the theory of Freud and Lacan. The research applied qualitative method by doing steps of using data collection, data analysis, and data presentation. The results show that Dr. Louise Bank has a different woman personality from other women in general, where Id dominates some of the behaviors shown her. Her desire is always followed by an effort in fulfilling; it is shown by Dr. Louise Bank who can use her intuitive, logical mind well to find some ways and solutions in the process of solving it. The most prevalent psychic conflicts in her are the fear and anxiety of new experiences and glance of visions that always keep her in an unpleasant state or condition.

Abstract:
This article analyzes the role that domain knowledge plays on the understanding of and performance in simultaneous interpreting tasks. Students from two classes of the undergraduate program in Translation of the Federal University of Uberlândia answered a questionnaire and performed a simultaneous interpreting session. The questionnaires were used to analyze the participants beliefs, while the sessions were audio-recorded for the analysis of cognitive effort (i.e., omissions, additions, head starts, pauses, meaning errors, and logical-time sequence errors). The results pointed to some changes in the students’ declarative knowledge and procedural knowledge after they had received theoretical and practical training in simultaneous interpreting. However, it was not sufficient to help them find interpreting strategies to avoid a high level of cognitive effort. This research contributes to both process research and interpreter training.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with a comparison of two broad classes of mathematical models, additive and multiplicative, for selecting the best among a number of competing project proposals addressed to a defined research objective. The analysis is predicated on the view that, though additive models are widely utilized, they are theoretically inferior to multiplicative ones. In an effort to more clearly understand when the use of additive models might be acceptable despite their logical flaws, conditions are investigated under which they yield results that are essentially equivalent to those produced by multiplicative models.

Abstract:
The demographic-migration issue was to become a key alibi in Rome’s effort to take colonies, in which Italians were promised cultivable land, opportunities, social stature and advancement. The channeling of the surplus population in other areas constituted one of the pillars of Italian colonial policy and, by extension, reinforced the rhetoric linking the demographic issue with the quest for colonies. This justification of Italian colonialism as an alternative solution to the population problem had a more logical basis compared to the potential economic and raw material benefits of Africa or Asia.

The paper presents the general characteristics of public diplomacy and independent expert appraisal and describes the concepts’ interconnections which is extremely important for further research. The conclusion was drawn with consideration of comprehension and application of the soft power theory in Russia. It states that the development of the civil society institutes remains a state initiative. On the one hand, this assumption contradicts the idea of cooperative effort, on the other hand, the state creates artificial conditions for stimulation of the civil institutions which is logical considering the insufficient development of the civil society.

Abstract:
The goal of this paper is to provide better information of Government Performance Accountability System (SAKIP) implementation in Indonesian District Governments to policy makers. This study utilizes the evaluation result of Government Performance Accountability System (SAKIP) 2010 to analyze the effort of 273 District governments in Indonesia in implementing the SAKIP.The research question of this paper is: do auditor’s opinion and number of population have significant different to the SAKIP score? To investigate what factors that determine the score of Government Performance Accountability System (SAKIP), several theories as well as a logical thinking were taken to figure out the research question. Those theories as well as logical thinking reveal that revenue and spending, seize of population, area, poverty level, human development index, auditor’s opinion, number of government employee and education level government employee tend to correlate the SAKIP score. Two hypotheses have been chosen in this paper: 1) higher level in Auditor’s Opinion more likely will increase the SAKIP score evaluation, and 2) size of Population has significant different to the SAKIP score. Result shows we have to reject all the null hypotheses.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article examines the progress of the humanitarian initiative to reframe the nuclear weapons discourse internationally. The initiative seeks to shift debate away from theories of strategic stability and towards a focus on the impact of nuclear weapons themselves. This effort has now gathered significant support at an international level, and its implications are increasingly recognized by both nuclear-armed and non-nuclear-armed States. The initiative has been underpinned by the deliberate logic of humanitarian disarmament. A treaty banning nuclear weapons, around which momentum is gathering, would be an achievable, legally coherent and logical next step developing from the initiative.
