Abstract:
It is clearly known that urban freight transportation has a significant role on sustainable development of urban areas. The persistent growth of the costs of freight transportation and as a result of congestion, environmental pollution and increasing inefficient usage of land in urban areas are forcing users and public authorities to develop alternative logistic solutions to relieve the freight traffic problem. Establishing logistics centers is one of these alternative solutions. Logistics centers are specific centers that various logistic based activities like distribution, storage, transportation, consolidation, handling, customs clearance, imports, exports, transit processes, infrastructural services, insurance, banking and similar commercial activities are performed. These centers are defined for national and international all logistic and related operations. Logistic centers must be settled near production and commercial centers, highways, railways, airports and if possible seaports. In this study we proposed a fuzzy TOPSIS approach to a logistics center location selection problem in eastern anatolia region of Turkey.

Abstract:
The main theoretical aspects of the features of the formation of the logistics activities of organizations in the modern conditions of the transformation of the world market are considered. The conceptual necessity of using an integration approach in organizing logistics activities, taking into account the influence of factors of the macroeconomic environment, has been substantiated. The main aspects and features of intrafirm and interfirm logistic integration of organizations are interpreted and reasoned, which, in contrast to existing approaches, makes it possible to distinguish this process from its influence on the main activity, taking into account the risk factors. The conceptual factors contributing to the formation of integration processes in the organization in modern conditions of the transformation of the world market are highlighted. It is argued that the modern realities of doing business, regardless of the type of economic activity, necessitate the use of an integrated approach in management when organizing logistics activities. With the help of economic and statistical analysis of the logistics services market in the world, the intensity and need for the use of intrafirm logistics integration are substantiated. The developed theoretical and methodological approach of the integration organization of logistics activities can be applied in practice, taking into account the peculiarities of the economic activities of organizations in modern conditions.

Abstract:
In this paper, a rheumatoid arthritis (RA) medicine clinical dataset with an ordinal response is selected to study this new medicine. In the dataset, there are four features, sex, age, treatment, and preliminary. Sex is a binary categorical variable with 1 indicates male, and 0 indicates female. Age is the numerical age of the patients. And treatment is a binary categorical variable with 1 indicates has RA, and 0 indicates does not have RA. And preliminary is a five class categorical variable indicates the patient’s RA severity status before taking the medication. The response Y is 5 class ordinal variable shows the severity of patient’s RA severity after taking the medication. The primary aim of this study is to determine what factors play a significant role in determine the response after taking the medicine. First, cumulative logistic regression is applied to the dataset to examine the effect of various factors on ordinal response. Secondly, the ordinal response is categorized into two classes. Then logistic regression is conducted to the RA dataset to see if the variable selection would be different. Moreover, the shrinkage methods, elastic net and lasso are used to make a variable selection on the RA dataset of two-class response for the purpose of adding penalization to increase the model’s robustness. The four model results were compared at the end of the paper. From the comparison result, logistic regression has a better performance on variable selection than the other three approaches based on P-value.

Abstract:
In many fields of statistical application the fundamental task is to quantify the association between some explanatory variables or covariates and a response or outcome variable through a suitable regression model. The accuracy of such quantification depends on how precisely we measure the relevant covariates. In many instances, we can not measure some of the covariates accurately, rather we can measure noisy versions of them. In statistical terminology this is known as measurement errors or errors in variables. Regression analyses based on noisy covariate measurements lead to biased and inaccurate inference about the true underlying response-covariate associations. In this thesis we investigate some aspects of measurement error modelling in the case of binary logistic regression models. We suggest a flexible parametric approach for adjusting the measurement error bias while estimating the response-covariate relationship through logistic regression model. We investigate the performance of the proposed flexible parametric approach in comparison with the other flexible parametric and nonparametric approaches through extensive simulation studies. We also compare the proposed method with the other competitive methods with respect to a real-life data set. Though emphasis is put on the logistic regression model the proposed method is applicable to the other members of the generalized linear models, and other types of non-linear regression models too. Finally, we develop a new computational technique to approximate the large sample bias that my arise due to exposure model misspecification in the estimation of the regression parameters in a measurement error scenario.

Abstract:
Using logistic regression, we aim to construct a model to examine the factors that are most influential in affecting user behavior on the flight comparison site flygresor.se. The factors examined were number of adults, number of children, number of stops on the inbound trip, number of stops on the outbound trip, number of days between the search date and the departure date and number of search results displayed for the user. The data sample, collected during a one-week period, was taken from Flygresor and consisted of trips to or from Sweden, made within Europe, excluding Nordic countries, and made more than six days before departure. To find the variables which best explain the user behavior, variable selection methods were used along with hypothesis testing. Also, multicollinearity analysis and residual analysis were performed to evaluate the final model. The result showed that the factor number of children had no significant impact on the conversion rate, while the remaining factors had a high impact. The final model has a high predictive ability on the user's propensity to select a certain flight.

Abstract:
Each year, billions of dollars are spent on missiles and munitions by the United States government. It is therefore vital to have a dependable method to estimate the reliability of these missiles. It is important to take into account the age of the missile, the reliability of different components of the missile, and the impact of different launch phases on missile reliability. Additionally, it is of importance to estimate the missile performance under a variety of test conditions, or modalities. Bayesian logistic regression is utilized to accurately make these estimates. This project presents both previously proposed methods and ways to combine these methods to accurately estimate the reliability of the Cruise Missile.

In recent years, a large-scale logistic center plays an important role in mail-order business with Internet. In the logistic center, the efficient managing is required to deliver products to customers as soon as possible. Researches to efficiently control the logistic center have been done in the various approaches. This study proposed a new method for the order-picking problem considering worker’s jamming at the same shelf in the logistic center. In the proposed method, we formulate worker’s scheduling in the logistic center as Job-shop Scheduling Problem and optimize this problem. Numerical experiments show the proposed method improve worker’s scheduling compared with rule-based scheduling.

Abstract:
International trade (IT) is recognised as one of the driving forces for business and the growth of countries’ economic. The amount of IT flows is contributed by the “logistics revolution”. According to the conceptual approach, the development of transportation modes, logistics infrastructure may facilitate in-ternational trade. However, it remains unclear whether logistic performance changes contribute to IT flows since the number of researches that examine the effect of logistic performance on IT is limited. So, this paper aims to determine whether the flows of IT are contingent on logistics performance. The research re-lies on panel data of 28 European Union (EU) Member States (MS) over 2007–2016. The results of our investigation confirmed that the changes of logistics performance positively related to IT flow of EU MS, but this impact differs across countries.

In order to provide and sustain logistic quality in an increasingly competitive environment, it should be ensured that logistic services are performed more effectively and efficiently via analyzing faults/problems in detail and eliminating root causes of these. In logistics sector, especially in the case of cold chain logistics involving the transport of perishable products such as food, medicine, chemicals, etc., the rejects/ fines constitute on a large-scale rate. Companies, in the case of deliveries that are outside the expectations of the companies or contrary to their contracts, they either return the goods or take delivery by punishing. In this study, the causes of these logistics/delivery factors, effecting negatively the country’s economy were researched, and suggested important solutions by analyzed with the Theory of Constraints - Thinking Processes approach. These proposals for the characteristic solutions for cold chain logistics, if applied in the institutions and companies concerned with the logistic sector in the whole country, it is expected that will obtain the savings of the costs coming from penalty/reject applications in the country’s economy, and beyond this it is expected that will get the additional earnings from the increased market share by increasing the customer satisfaction.

Abstract:
Political economy analysis (PEA) has emerged as a valuable approach for assessing context and the local systems where international development actors seek to intervene. PEA approaches and tools have grown and adapted over the last 40 years through innovations by donor agencies and practitioners. Our analysis of nine PEAs reveals the following findings: PEAs can make positive contributions to technical interventions; engaging project staff in PEAs increases the likelihood that they will be open to a thinking and working politically mindset and approach; inclusion of gender equity and social inclusion (GESI) in PEAs helps to uncover and address hidden power dynamics; and explicitly connecting PEA findings to project implementation facilitates adaptive management. Implementation lessons learned include careful consideration of logistics, timing, and team members. Our experience and research suggest applied PEAs provide valuable evidence for strengthening evidence-based, adaptive, international development programming. The findings highlight the promise of PEA as well as the need for ongoing learning and research to address continued challenges.

Roye, Thorsten. The Right Level of Automation for Industry 4.0. SAE International, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.4271/epr2022013.

Full text
Abstract:
In its entirety, automation is part of an integrated, multi-disciplinary product development process including the design, process, production, logistics, and systems approach—it depends on all these areas, but it also influences them as well. Automation in aerospace manufacturing is present throughout the entire supply chain, from elementary part manufacturing at suppliers up to final assembly, and a clear understanding of all the benefits (and drawbacks) of automation would help designers and engineers select the right designs for and levels of automation. The Right Level of Automation Within Industry 4.0 examines all impacts of automation that should be known by designers, manufacturers, and companies before investments in automation-related decisions are made—regardless of the which industry they work in. The process and the set of criteria discussed in this report will help decision makers select the right level of automation.

Abstract:
Many students struggle with mathematics in late elementary school, particularly on the topic of fractions. In a best evidence syntheses of research on increasing achievement in elementary school mathematics, Pelligrini et al. (2018) highlighted tutoring as a way to help students. Online tutoring is attractive because costs may be lower and logistics easier than with face-to-face tutoring. Cignition developed an approach that combines online 1:1 tutoring with a fractions game, called FogStone Isle. The game provides students with additional learning opportunities and provides tutors with information that they can use to plan tutoring sessions. A randomized controlled trial investigated the research question: Do students who participate in online tutoring and a related mathematical game learn more about fractions than students who only have access to the game? Participants were 144 students from four schools, all serving low-income students with low prior mathematics achievement. In the Treatment condition, students received 20-25 minute tutoring sessions twice per week for an average of 18 sessions and also played the FogStone Isle game. In the Control condition, students had access to the game, but did not play it often. Control students did not receive tutoring. Students were randomly assigned to condition after being matched on pre-test scores. The same diagnostic assessment was used as a pre-test and as a post-test. The planned analysis looked for differences in gain scores ( post-test minus pre-test scores) between conditions. We conducted a t-test on the aggregate gain scores, comparing conditions; the results were statistically significant (t = 4.0545, df = 132.66, p-value < .001). To determine an effect size, we treated each site as a study in a meta-analysis. Using gain scores, the effect size was g=+.66. A more sophisticated treatment of the pooled standard deviation resulted in a corrected effect size of g=.46 with a 95% confidence interval of [+.23,+.70]. Students who received online tutoring and played the related Fog Stone Isle game learned more; our research found the approach to be efficacious. The Pelligrini et al. (2018) meta-analysis of elementary math tutoring programs found g = .26 and was based largely on face-to-face tutoring studies. Thus, this study compares favorably to prior research on face-to-face mathematics tutoring with elementary students. Limitations are discussed; in particular, this is an initial study of an intervention under development. Effects could increase or decrease as development continues and the program scales. Although this study was planned long before the current pandemic, results are particularly timely now that many students are at home under shelter-in-place orders due to COVID-19. The approach taken here is feasible for students at home, with tutors supporting them from a distance. It is also feasible in many other situations where equity could be addressed directly by supporting students via online tutors.
