Abstract:
The past 25 years has seen the increasing use of commercially contracted firms to provide logistic support to Western armies, especially in the British, US, and Australian militaries. The resulting integration of civilian and military logistic personnel and systems to form a joint military-civilian/ public-private integrated logistic system has required a number of adjustments and changes in order for the product to be efficient, effective, and functional and remains a dynamic and ongoing process. In 2018, commercial logistic support is now at the point where certain militaries are deploying non-military logistic contractors forward into 1st and 2nd line logistic support roles. This article will briefly describe the western military trend to commercial logistic contracting, highlighting key points and considerations of which any military will require awareness, if contemplating a similar expansion. It will also emphasise that this growth of civilian contracting has been predicated on low intensity, counterinsurgency conflicts such as deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. 1st and 2nd line commercial logistic support hence remains completely untested in the event of a potential peer or near-peer conflict. The untested nature of commercial contracting in a forward support role is the greatest potential critical vulnerability of militarycivilian integrated logistic systems, especially in the context of a potential NATO Article V -type conflict. The lessons for the Polish military as it considers greater integration of military and civilian logistics as part of a modernised force structure are clear.

Abstract:
An Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) service has the objective of improving a system’s efficiency and availability for the life cycle. The system constructor offers the service to the customer, and she becomes the Contractor Logistic Support (CLS). The aim of this paper is to propose an approach to support the CLS in the budget formulation. Specific goals of the model are the provision of the annual cost of ILS activities through a specific cost model and a comprehensive examination of expected benefits, costs and savings under alternative ILS strategies. A simple example derived from an industrial application is also provided to illustrate the idea. Scientific literature is lacking in the topic and documents from the military are just dealing with the issue of performance measurement. Moreover, they are obviously focused on the customer’s perspective. Other scientific papers are general and focused only on maintenance or life cycle management. The model developed in this paper approaches the problem from the perspective of the CLS, and it is specifically tailored on the main issues of an ILS service.

Abstract:
The primary discussion of spatial organization that includes the analysis of the impact of logistics processes on flexibility, the transformability of spatial solutions and the transparency of space, has not been able to provide the theoretical and methodological interpretation of their spatio-temporal flow. This paper will point out the modalities of ?logistic architecture? production that break the design process tradition, as it turned out as unable to support creativity-based modes of reception of architectural ideas. The introduction of the ?logistic architecture? concept announces a new methodological and theoretical approach to the spatial syntheses of different processes in a building, aimed at achieving optimal spatio-temporal conditioning by the logistics system in relation to the use of creative strategy, as a part of the urban renovation. As my research field, this research observed the comparative flow of produced vehicles from the factory end line to the multi-story parking structures within two factories: Fiat Factory in Kragujevac, Serbia and Volkswagen Transparent Factory in Dresden, Germany.

Abstract:
One of the main directions of logistic support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is medical support which is aimed at life safeguard and health of military personnel, well-timed and efficient provision of medical care in the event of injuries, injuries and diseases, fast renewal of combat power and ability to work in different conditions of its handling and at different period of time. The readiness of medical service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the medical support of the troops depends on the well-timed organization of medical supplies and the refilling of medical supplies full and complete. The qualitative and efficient allocation of medical equipment and medical supplies is a determining factor in this process. The aim of the work – reasoning of the irregularity of distribution logistics in the unified logistic system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the study of the main aspects of management of the distribution of medical supplies from the position of military pharmaceutical logistics. To get the purpose of the research, the analysis of domestic scientific sources and the current normative and legal base of Ukraine have been carried out. Research methods are: information search, comparison, systemization, semantic analysis, synthesis and modeling. In the conditions of logistic support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other components of the security and defense forces of Ukraine, the logistic function of the distribution of logistical equipment, inventory, military equipment and services (food, bath and laundry services, etc.) should ensure the activity of troops (forces) in peacetime and war time. It is the guarantee of the ability to ensure the defense of the state and appropriate response to military threats to the national security of Ukraine, efficiently using available potential and resources. Distribution logistics from the position of military pharmaceutical logistics is the management of all functional subsystems of the medical supplies and health services of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine in order to optimize the distribution of the material flow (purchased medical supplies) from the supplier to the final consumer (according to the applications of the Military Medical Clinical Centers of the Regions). Same, distributive logistics in the structure of a unified logistic support system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine does not carry a commercial component, and its functions consist in planning, organization of distribution, control and regulation of the logistic process of distribution of material and technical means (including medical equipment and supplies), inventory, military equipment, services (catering, bath and laundry service, etc.). According to the authors, the term «marketing logistics» is not possible to use as a single system of logistic support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and in its subsystems. To sum it up, it was suggested to use the term «distributive logistics». On the basis of theoretical generalization of the data of scientific literature and normative legal acts, the main aspects of management of the distribution of medical equipment and supplies from the standpoint of military pharmaceutical logistics are studied. The functions of distributive logistics are defined, the model of the current logistic chain of distribution of medical equipment and supplies in the medical service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is constructed. It is noted that in order to ensure the qualitative and efficient distribution of medical equipment and supplies, a regulatory and legal framework which regulates the division of powers between institutions and units of medical supplies and defines the responsibility for their implementation in the current conditions of the reformation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Abstract:
Complicating functions of computer-aided tools of specific application control systems prioritize the task of keeping a highdegree alert performed by the operations services in the presence of component failures. Besides its primary function, the operations service provides the logistic support, maintenance and repair, storage, etc. Thus, it includes all the functions of the logistic support system. The article deals with such problems of the logistic support as planning, preparing and delivery of spare parts used to repair and recover systems. The authors analyzed customer’s requirements, which ensure stable operation of the specific application computer-aided systems. They discovered that one of activities intended to meet the customer’s requirements is preparing spare parts, which provide the operational onsite repair. Currently there are no governing documents specifying the procedure of spare parts preparation. The article proposes an approach to preparing optimal quantity of spare parts based on failure statistics over the past period and forecasting the number of possible failures over the planned period of time. The authors propose the widely-known method of exponential smoothing as a forecast model, which allows giving an unbiased estimate both for stationary time series, and for polynomial ones. Keywords: logistic support, operation of computer-aided tools, spare parts, preparation of optimal quantity of spares, forecasting of line time series, exponential smoothing.

Abstract:
While serious games are being widely adopted by NATO and partner nations, their use is currently limited to training and operations planning. In this paper, we explore new methods that use simulations for decision support during the execution of military operations. During this phase, the commander makes decisions based on knowledge of the situation and the primary objectives. We propose here to take a simulation containing smart and autonomous units, and use it to create new kinds of decision support tools capable of improving situation awareness, and consequently the quality of decisions. The breakthrough behind this initiative is the realization that we can provide HQ decision makers with access to a version of the information that smart simulated units use to make decisions. To ensure the approach was sound we first studied decision-making processes, and analyzed how situation awareness improves decision making. After analysis of the decision-making processes at various headquarters, and the types of decision criteria employed, we are able to produce innovative information, computed by the simulation, and fed by the command and control system. We then propose a prerequisite architecture, and describe the first results of our proof of concept work based on the SWORD (Simulation Wargaming for Operational Research and Doctrine) simulation. Based on the current situation (intelligence, operational state, logistics, etc.) and the current maneuver (current task), examples of what we are now capable of are as follows: provide an immediate local force ratio map, produce a capacities map (detection, combat), compute contextual fire or logistic support time required, automatically generate lines of battle such as the Forward Line of Own Troops (FLOT), Limit Of Advance (LOA), Line of Contact (LC), Forward Edge of Battle Area (FEBA), or propose an effect based maneuver map in order to understand the current effect of the forces on the ground. We then propose a prerequisite architecture for use as a decision-support system at HQ, and describe the next smart layers that we believe should be developed for optimal results.

We examined differences in attitudes to the question “Should incurable patients be allowed to die?” using the General Social Survey cumulative data from 1972–2002. Utilizing logistic regression, we examined support for this statement with age, gender, race and other background variables in the basic model. Our findings are in line with past work that finds younger people, men and self-defined liberals support non-treatment compared to others all else equal. Controlling for background variables; however, we found that whites are less likely to support non-treatment than blacks.

Abstract:
The features of support for the logistics sphere of production of equipment (products) at Russian high-tech enterprises are examined and the main areas of activity of enterprises are clarified in terms of providing integrated support for the logistics sphere of products at all stages of the life cycle. Based on current trends in the development of the economy of the Russian Federation, the use of the latest logistics technologies in the management of production enterprises is of particular relevance. It has been established that in the implementation of the traditional system of product logistic support, information flows carry information about product requirements, cost, ordering and delivery of finished products to consumers. Currently, certain steps are being taken to introduce CALS-technologies, which are considered as tools for organizing and providing continuous information support to all participants in the creation, production and use of products at all stages of the product life cycle, reducing costs in the production, operation and repair processes. It was revealed that in the traditional support system for the product’s logistics sphere there is no centralized planning, the logistics information system cannot promptly change the parameters of the main elements of the support system depending on the changed operating conditions of the product. A promising system of integrated support for the logistics sector based on CALS-technologies is proposed, which eliminates the shortcomings by analyzing the support of the logistics sector.

Resulting from a mature accomplishment of the unmanned aircraft system (UAS), it is feasible to be adopted into logistic delivery services. The supporting technologies should be identified and examined, accompanying with the risk assessment. This paper surveys the risk assessment studies for UAVs. The expected level of safety (ELS) analysis is a key factor to safety concerns. By introducing the UTM infrastructure, the UAS implementation can be monitored. From the NASA technical capability level (TCL), UAV in beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) flights would need certain verifications. Two UAS logistic delivery case studies are tested to assert the UAS services. To examine the ELS to ground risk and air risk, the case studies result in acceptable data to support the UAS logistic delivery with adequate path planning in the remote and suburban areas in Taiwan.

Abstract:
AbstractDetermining the most appropriate level of care for patients in the prehospital setting during medical emergencies is essential. A large body of literature suggests that, compared with Basic Life Support (BLS) care, Advanced Life Support (ALS) care is not associated with increased patient survival or decreased mortality. The purpose of this special report is to synthesize the literature to identify common study design and analytic challenges in research studies that examine the effect of ALS, compared to BLS, on patient outcomes. The challenges discussed in this report include: (1) choice of outcome measure; (2) logistic regression modeling of common outcomes; (3) baseline differences between study groups (confounding); (4) inappropriate statistical adjustment; and (5) inclusion of patients who are no longer at risk for the outcome. These challenges may affect the results of studies, and thus, conclusions of studies regarding the effect of level of prehospital care on patient outcomes should require cautious interpretation. Specific alternatives for avoiding these challenges are presented.LiT, JonesCMC, ShahMN, CushmanJT, JuskoTA. In this paper we investigate a logistic equation with a new free boundary condition appearing in ecology, we aim to describe the spreading of a new or invasive species by studying the asymptotic behavior of the radially symmetric solutions of the problem. We will obtain a trichotomy result: spreading (the solution converges to a stationary solution defined on the half–line), transition (the solution converges to a stationary solution with compact support) and vanishing (the solution converges to 0 within a finite time). Besides we can also obtain a dichotomy result (either spreading or vanishing happens). Moreover, in the spreading case, we give the sharp estimate of the asymptotic spreading speed of the free boundary.

Abstract:
The possibility for more confidential predictions, leaning on scientific methods and accomplishments of information technology leaves more time for the realization of logistic needs. Longstanding ambitions to acquire desired levels of efficiency within the system with minimal costs of resources, materials, energy and money are the features of executive structures of logistic systems. A successful logistic process is based on validation of technological development, indicating the need for a faster and more confidential integration of logistic systems and "instilling confidence" with military units that provide critical support (supply, transport and maintenance) will be reliably realized according to relevance and priority. Conclusions like these impose the necessity that the decision-making process of logistic organs is accessed carefully and systematically, since any wrong decision leads to a reduced state of readiness for military units. To facilitate the day-to-day operation of the Army of Serbia and the completion of both scheduled and unscheduled tasks it is necessary to satisfy the wide range of transport requirements. In this paper, the Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) is described, thus making possible a strategy of coordination of transport assets to formulate an automatic control strategy. This model successfully imitates the decision-making process of the chiefs of logistic support. As a result of the research, it is shown that the suggested ANFIS, which has the ability to learn, has a possibility to imitate the decision-making process of the transport support officers and show the level of competence that is comparable with the level of their competence.

Abstract:
Background. A prediction model can be developed to predict the risk of cancer-related cognitive impairment in colorectal cancer patients after chemotherapy. Methods. A regression analysis was performed on 386 colorectal cancer patients who had undergone chemotherapy. Three prediction models (random forest, logistic regression, and support vector machine models) were constructed using collected clinical and pathological data of the patients. Calibration and ROC curves and C -indexes were used to evaluate the selected models. A decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to determine the clinical utility of the line graph. Results. Three prediction models including a random forest, a logistic regression, and a support vector machine were constructed. The logistic regression model had the strongest predictive power with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.799. Age, BMI, colostomy, complications, CRA, depression, diabetes, QLQ-C30 score, exercise, hypercholesterolemia, diet, marital status, education level, and pathological stage were included in the nomogram. The C -index (0.826) and calibration curve showed that the nomogram had good predictive ability and the DCA curves indicated that the model had strong clinical utility. Conclusions. A prediction model with good predictive ability and practical clinical value can be developed for predicting the risk of cognitive impairment in colorectal cancer after chemotherapy.

Asean Economic Community (AEC) implemented in 2015 is an effort to increase economic growth in Southeast Asia. Logistics is one of the priority integration sectors in the AEC. In the logistics service sector, as a maritime country, Indonesia consists of thousands of islands which are inseparable unity. This condition makes Indonesia as a country that has import port transportation on front line and inter island transportation. In facing the , Indonesia is required to build an integrated National Logistics System (Sislognas).According to the Logistics Performance Index of World Bank 2010 Indonesia was ranked 75 out of 183 countries. Logistic system in Indonesia still need better handling, besides settling vision problem and mission which not yet integrated. In addition to infrastructure, vision and mission to support the improvement of business competitiveness in Indonesia is also not well integrated and coordinated. The system can be realized if supported by human resources who have logistics knowledge. Lack of human resources in the field of logistics more due to two factors, namely quality and speed. With the implementation of AEC, the government and business people must be ready and face it by preparing business strategy, especially improving human resources in logistics so that Indonesia can compete in this era.Management professionalism, information systems, culture, functional strategies must run simultaneously to achieve a corporate objective. In facing the challenges of globalization of companies or businesses, government and academia need to develop national workforce such as improving the quality of curriculum, as well as effective training to support and improve the quality and motivation of human resources.

Abstract:
PURPOSE To examine the impact of a clinical decision support system (CDSS) on breast cancer treatment decisions and adherence to National Comprehensive Cancer Center (NCCN) guidelines. PATIENTS AND METHODS A cross-sectional observational study was conducted involving 1,977 patients at high risk for recurrent or metastatic breast cancer from the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology. Ten oncologists provided blinded treatment recommendations for an average of 198 patients before and after viewing therapeutic options offered by the CDSS. Univariable and bivariable analyses of treatment changes were performed, and multivariable logistic regressions were estimated to examine the effects of physician experience (years), patient age, and receptor subtype/TNM stage. RESULTS Treatment decisions changed in 105 (5%) of 1,977 patients and were concentrated in those with hormone receptor (HR)–positive disease or stage IV disease in the first-line therapy setting (73% and 58%, respectively). Logistic regressions showed that decision changes were more likely in those with HR-positive cancer (odds ratio [OR], 1.58; P < .05) and less likely in those with stage IIA (OR, 0.29; P < .05) or IIIA cancer (OR, 0.08; P < .01). Reasons cited for changes included consideration of the CDSS therapeutic options (63% of patients), patient factors highlighted by the tool (23%), and the decision logic of the tool (13%). Patient age and oncologist experience were not associated with decision changes. Adherence to NCCN treatment guidelines increased slightly after using the CDSS (0.5%; P = .003). CONCLUSION Use of an artificial intelligence–based CDSS had a significant impact on treatment decisions and NCCN guideline adherence in HR-positive breast cancers. Although cases of stage IV disease in the first-line therapy setting were also more likely to be changed, the effect was not statistically significant ( P = .22). Additional research on decision impact, patient-physician communication, learning, and clinical outcomes is needed to establish the overall value of the technology.

Abstract:
This study investigates factors affecting older persons’ state of loneliness in multiethnic Malaysia using data from the 2004 Malaysian Population and Family Survey, the first nationally representative sample in Malaysia. The study sample was extracted to include Malays, Chinese, Indians and other Indigenous groups aged 60 and above, and who had children (n= 1791). Cross tabulations and ordinal logistic regression methods were used in the analysis. Among the ethnic groups, older Malays were more likely than their Chinese and Indian counterparts to experience loneliness. Loneliness was found to be associated with age, marital status, education level, sources of income, health status, and physical limitations. Among older people, feelings of loneliness were inversely related with coresidence with adult children and participation in religious activities. Sociodemographic changes have eroded the traditional family support system for the elderly, while social security remains inadequate. This study shows the important role of family in alleviating loneliness among older people. Hence the need to promote and facilitate coresidence, as well as participation in religious activities, and a healthy lifestyle as a priority strategy is in line with the objectives of the National Policy for the Older People.

Abstract:
In recent decades, the speed of transformation of logistics infrastructure facilities has radically changed in Russia and its regions. The transformation of the logistics infrastructure led to the widespread use of artificial material means and resource-intensive production, the depletion of non-renewable natural resources, which led to the deterioration of the ecological state of the environment. Such development of systems is characterized by specialists as a technogenic type of ecological and economic management. Human activity in the context of the development of an economic system of a technogenic type leads to the destruction of the biosphere, environmental pollution and the destruction of the ecology of territories. The data of the state report “On the state and protection of the environment of the Russian Federation in 2019”, formed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, indicate a high degree of environmental pollution in the Russian Federation with a positive trend towards reduction. A possible solution to the problem of environmental pollution in the development of the logistics infrastructure of the region is to refer to world practices, namely to the concept of sustainable development. The basis of this concept lies in the sustainable development of all spheres of human life by maintaining a balance between the ecological, economic, social, cultural development of the region and the needs of people, in terms of efficient use of natural resources, energy-saving and environmental technologies, support of society, development of human resources, support of features cultural potential, preserving the integrity of the environment and biosphere for future generations.

Abstract:
Shallow landslides damage buildings and other infrastructure, disrupt agriculture practices, and can cause social upheaval and loss of life. As a result, many scientists study the phenomenon, and some of them have focused on producing landslide susceptibility maps that can be used by land-use managers to reduce injury and damage. This paper contributes to this effort by comparing the power and effectiveness of five machine learning, benchmark algorithms—Logistic Model Tree, Logistic Regression, Naïve Bayes Tree, Artificial Neural Network, and Support Vector Machine—in creating a reliable shallow landslide susceptibility map for Bijar City in Kurdistan province, Iran. Twenty conditioning factors were applied to 111 shallow landslides and tested using the One-R attribute evaluation (ORAE) technique for modeling and validation processes. The performance of the models was assessed by statistical-based indexes including sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE), and area under the receiver operatic characteristic curve (AUC). Results indicate that all the five machine learning models performed well for shallow landslide susceptibility assessment, but the Logistic Model Tree model (AUC = 0.932) had the highest goodness-of-fit and prediction accuracy, followed by the Logistic Regression (AUC = 0.932), Naïve Bayes Tree (AUC = 0.864), ANN (AUC = 0.860), and Support Vector Machine (AUC = 0.834) models. Therefore, we recommend the use of the Logistic Model Tree model in shallow landslide mapping programs in semi-arid regions to help decision makers, planners, land-use managers, and government agencies mitigate the hazard and risk.

Abstract:
This paper addresses determinants that underpin support for climate change efforts. The study is based on Pew Research Center (USA), Spring 2015 Global Attitudes survey dataset, with a primary focus on climate change, collected from March 25 to May 27, 2015. Drawing on the new ecological paradigm and ecological modernization perspectives, the paper utilizing logistic regression, examines the relationship between individuals’ perception or awareness of the severity of climate change and their support for limiting greenhouse emissions; the extent to which individuals’ views on whether developing countries should do as much as the rich countries in addressing climate change predict the likelihood of their (individuals’) support for limiting greenhouse emissions. The logistic regression models reveal that people’s rational insight into the following consequences of climate change positively predicts support for limiting greenhouse emissions: severe weather like floods or severe storms; long periods of unusually hot weather; rising sea levels; years of schooling and age positively predict support for limiting greenhouse emissions. In general, knowing an individual’s country of residence offers no predictive value in determining whether the individual will support limiting greenhouse emissions. The notable exceptions are: South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya. These four countries display positive and statistically significant coefficients in the logistic regression model predicting support for greenhouse emissions. Keywords: climate change; environmental concern; greenhouse emissions; ecological crisis; Africa

Abstract:
Modern software development is based on a systems approach, in which a program or software complex is considered as a system of interacting software components. Models of software components are analogs of complex system subsystems. Therefore, a complex program is considered as a system of software components. The organization of the structure of software components affects the quality and result of the program. The organization of interaction between software components affects the efficiency of the program. An important factor in the system of software components is the life cycle, which determines the effectiveness and feasibility of using this program. Software differs from many complex systems and information systems in that it has the ability to increase its life cycle. Moreover, the need to increase the life cycle is characterized by two factors: external and internal. The internal factor arises due to the obsolescence of the program. In this case, it does not meet the new conditions, for example, a new operating system. The external factor arises from external influences in the form of interference or purposeful actions, such as computer viruses. The problem of creating the structure of software components of computing systems and information systems that ensure the duration of the life cycle in the presence of external influences is topical. The study of this problem contributes to the improvement of the technological base of computing systems and information systems that solve applied problems. The article presents a new life cycle model based on two models of growth and degradation. The article recommends a resource-based approach for life cycle assessment. As an analytical solution, it is proposed to use a logistic equation, which describes the mechanisms of the life cycle formation process quite well. The article discusses three types of resource in calculations: physical, technological and communicative. A general redundancy solution is proposed to create a network with the inclusion of a multigraph model.

Abstract:
Background and purpose: The quality of life of people living with HIV is influenced by many factors, one of which is social support. Social support consists of four elements, namely information, instrumental, emotional and appraisal supports. Publication on the association between the quality of life of people living with HIV and the four elements of social support shows inconsistent results. The purpose of this study is to determine the association between the four elements of social support and the quality of life of people living with HIV.Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out at the WM Medika Clinic, Kerti Praja Foundation, Denpasar, Bali. Samples were people living with HIV who came to the clinic between July-August 2018 to take antiretroviral (ARV) drugs. The total number of samples was 92 patients selected through the convenience sampling. Data was collected by conducting individual interviews and consisted of respondent characteristics, quality of life, information, instrumental, emotional and appraisal supports. Data were analyzed using logistic regression to determine the association between social support and quality of life of people living with HIV.Results: Emotional support was the only element of social support found to be significantly associated with quality of life of people living with HIV with AOR=4.918 (95%CI: 1.268-19.082). Whereas the other three elements were not found to be related to the quality of life of people living with HIV, these were instrumental support (AOR=0.865; 95%CI: 0.228-3.278); information support (AOR=0.949; 95%CI: 0.248-3.637); and appraisal support (AOR=0.317; 95%CI: 0.095-1.057).Conclusion: The quality of life of people living with HIV is found to be related to emotional support and is not found to be related to information, instrumental and appraisal supports. Emotional support needs to be addressed in order to further improve the quality of life of people living with HIV.

Abstract:
Schizophrenia remains a global issue. More than half of those living with schizophrenia have yet to receive appropriate treatment that led to the impeded of their recovery and the low quality of life. This study aimed to understand the relationship between familial supports with the quality of life (QOL) of persons with schizophrenia. The cross-sectional study was conducted on randomly selected 161 outpatients at 13 community health centers (puskesmas). Family support and quality of life data were collected by interviewing the respondents with the Friedman’s family support questionnaire and WHO quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF) questionnaire. Subsequently, data was analyzed using logistic regression. The respondents have a mean age of 45 years, mostly males, have completed high school, mostly unemployed and unmarried. Instrumental (AOR=3.177; 95%CI 1.01-9.91) and appraisal support (AOR=7.620; 95%CI 2.83-20.4) were significantly associated with QOL. Conversely, no significant relationship was found between emotional (AOR=1.345; 95%CI 0.46-3.88) and informational (AOR=2.515; 95%CI 0.85-7.42) support toward QOL. Employment, being married and not experiencing relapse were significantly related to QOL. Instrumental support and appraisal support are important factors in determining the quality of life of persons with schizophrenia. Hence, the government needs to expand the roles of family and community to support these roles.

Abstract:
Background: Ideal respiratory support for very low birth weight infants (VLBW) can be selected based on demographic and clinical status at birth. Methods: In this prospective cohort study, we included 163 VLBW neonates treated with either invasive or non-invasive respiratory support in their first 72 hours of life in the neonatal intensive care unit of Mahdiyeh hospital, Tehran, Iran. We used descriptive statistics to describe the data, and multiple logistic regression to determine the factors associated with the success rate of different strategies and the choice of strategy for primary respiratory support. All analyses were done using SPSS version 20 and STATA version 12 at a significance level of 0.05. Results: The success rates of initial respiratory supports with nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP), noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV), and INSURE (intubation surfactant extubation) were 63.20%, 42.10% and 61.90%, respectively. The results of multiple logistic regression analysis showed patent arterial duct (PDA) (yes vs. no: OR = 0.42) had a significant effect on initial respiratory support success (P<0.05). Also, gestational age (>28 vs. ≤28 weeks: OR = 0.26) and 5-min APGAR (≤6 vs. >6: OR = 9.69) had a significant effect on the choice of initial respiratory support in VLBW infants (P<0.05). Conclusion: The neonatal clinical condition may be a predictor of success for initial respiratory support at birth. Since the arterial duct may be open during the first hours of life, more study is needed to verify if early closure of the arterial duct may help increase the success rate of non-invasive respiratory support.

The purpose of this article is to see how neural networks are used in credit risk assessment problems. For this, we firstly introduce the main theoretical concepts of the neural calculus, as well as the fundaments for the main training algorithm: the error back-propagation algorithm. We review the specialty literature and find that the neural networks yield better results than other classification techniques, like multivariate discriminant analysis or logistic regression, when applying them in credit risk assessment problems. We focus on a few types of networks: feed-forward networks with multiple layers, fuzzy adaptive networks, support vector machines. We develop an analysis on Romanian Small and Medium Enterprises (financial ratios) and the results are in line with the findings from the literature: the neural networks give better results than the logistic regression. The study can be developed by analyzing a support vector machine or a fuzzy adaptive network. Santrauka Šio straipsnio tikslas – parodyti, kaip neuroniniai tinklai yra naudojami kredito rizikos vertinimo problemoms spręsti. Abstract:
Abstract This study examines contextual effects on support for the Partij voor de Vrijheid (PVV), a Dutch populist radical right-wing party. It examines the two most frequently researched contextual effects, that of the local ethnic composition and of local economic conditions. Furthermore, it investigates the effect of the local normative context, through which people are hypothesised to be influenced by their neighbours' political views. Analysing survey data from The Netherlands Longitudinal Lifecourse Study using multilevel logistic regression, no effects are found for the local ethnic composition and local economic conditions after controlling for individual characteristics. In addition, PVV support is much lower in districts with higher shares of highly educated residents, which is in line with theories on consensual neighbourhood effects. This effect is found to be non-linear and only turns negative when around 25 per cent of the population of a district is highly educated. Additional analyses show that contact with neighbours, which is often assumed to explain this effect, is not a prerequisite for the effect to occur.

AbstractPurpose:The purpose of this study was to determine whether basic life support, prehospital emergency medical care in a rural area affects the hospital course of patients with respiratory distress. Methods:Medical records for patients admitted from the emergency department with a discharge diagnosis related to respiratory disease were reviewed. Data collected included: 1) mode of arrival; 2) initial symptom; 3) vital signs; 4) prehospital interventions applied; 5) hospital days; 6) discharge status; and 7) principal diagnosis. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to predict length of hospital stay. Results:Charts for 603 patients were reviewed. Complete data for all variables included in the logistic regression analysis were available for 471 patients (78.1%). Because 55 patients died, only 416 (69.0%) were included in the multiple regression analysis conducted to predict length of hospital stay. Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that patients who arrived by ambulance and older patients were more likely to die; patients with higher systolic blood pressures were more likely to survive. Only patient age predicted length of hospital stay, with older patients having longer stays. Conclusions:Basic life support prehospital care in this rural emergency medical services system does not result in a lower mortality rate or a shorter hospital stay for a broad group of patients with respiratory distress who require hospital admission. Although this study is limited to a single population and a single emergency medical services system, it is one of only a few studies of outcome in basic life support systems.

In this paper we are investigating the political and social effects of Montenegro joining NATO. This issue is highly controversial and follows the political divisions in Montenegro, which motivated us to apply social cleavage theory. As method, we applied logistic regression clustered for standard error. We found that besides socio-demographic variables (ethnic division between Montenegrins and Serbs), the main line of the cleavage indicated by support of, or opposition to NATO membership falls along the issues of the independence of Montenegro, its relationship with the EU vs. Russia, as well as the attitude toward political power and party identification.

ABSTRACTWhat causes civilian victimization in conventional civil wars and in conventional wars that experience insurgencies? The authors argue that a key driver of civilian victimization is the vulnerability of the incumbent forces, specifically when the conflict’s front line is shifting. Vulnerability is a function of informational and logistical challenges: when the front line is moving, incumbents face increased informational uncertainty and unstable supply chains that augment their vulnerability. Thus, incumbents will increase the use of civilian victimization in response to a scarcity of high-quality information on the location and identity of insurgents, to limit possible information leaks, and to contain supply disruption and logistics support to adversaries. The authors support their argument using matched difference-in-differences analyses of original subnational data on Nazi-Fascist violence in World War II Italy (1943–1945) and qualitative evidence.

Abstract:
Abstract Postcardiotomy shock is a complication after open-heart surgery that may be alleviated with extracorporeal life support (ECLS). Postcardiotomy shock patients on ECLS with prosthetic valves are at a high risk of valve thrombosis. We retrospectively reviewed patients supported with ECLS after the development of postcardiotomy shock at our centre, 90 of which had prosthetic valves. Nine patients developed prosthetic valve thrombosis, an incidence of 10%. Patients who developed prosthetic valve thrombosis were more often supported via central cannulation (78% vs 38%, P = 0.034) and had a higher median initial flow (4.4 vs 3.2 l/min, P = 0.018). Central cannulation was associated with valve thrombosis by multivariable logistic regression (odds ratio 7.56; 95% confidence interval 1.12–149.87). Central cannulation with high flow is thought to reduce intracardiac blood flow, thereby increasing the risk of stasis and thrombus formation. Patients with prosthetic valve thrombosis were treated with anticoagulation or surgical intervention and 4 patients (44%) survived to discharge.

Abstract:
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to further the understanding of public sector line managers' work-related well-being and health in relation to job strain, gender and workplace social support.Design/methodology/approachAn online survey was sent to all senior and middle line managers (N = 357) in three administrative departments of Iceland's largest municipality. The response rate was 64.7%. Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyse the data.FindingsA minority of respondents experience high job strain. However, for these managers, the risk of experiencing emotional exhaustion is about fivefold, compared to those not experiencing high job strain. Social support is an important buffering against job strain and enhances well-being. Female managers are more likely than their male counterparts to report myositis, back or shoulder pain and sleeping difficulty.Practical implicationsThe study emphasises that workplace social support attenuates the negative impact of job strain on line managers' work-related well-being. Furthermore, it demonstrates that in a society at the forefront in gender equality, gender differences in health symptoms exist among line managers in the public sector – a finding that highlights the importance of studying all aspects of workplace well-being by gender. This calls for future research using a more comprehensive survey data and interviews to shed light on the pathways through which female line managers' health is negatively affected.Originality/valueKnowledge relating to well-being and health of line managers in the public sector is scarce. This study contributes to filling that gap. As work-related well-being is often gender-blind, the value of the study is also the investigation of the gender patterns in the authors’ data.

Abstract:
Skin lesion melanoma is the deadliest type of cancer. Artificial intelligence provides the power to classify skin lesions as melanoma and non-melanoma. The proposed system for melanoma detection and classification involves four steps: pre-processing, resizing all the images, removing noise and hair from dermoscopic images; image segmentation, identifying the lesion area; feature extraction, extracting features from segmented lesion and classification; and categorizing lesion as malignant (melanoma) and benign (non-melanoma). Modified GrabCut algorithm is employed to generate skin lesion. Segmented lesions are classified using machine learning algorithms such as SVM, k-NN, ANN, and logistic regression and evaluated on performance metrics like accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. Results are compared with existing systems and achieved higher similarity index and accuracy.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine if global and situational support for police use of force vary across first-generation immigrants, second-generation immigrants and native-born Americans. Design/methodology/approach Drawing on data from the 2012 General Social Survey, multivariate logistic regression models are performed to predict each of the three binary outcome variables (e.g. support for police use of reasonable force or excessive force) depending on immigrant generation status. Findings Results indicate that, compared with native-born individuals, first-generation immigrants express less global support for police use of force and less support for police use of reasonable force. In contrast, the first-generation group is more supportive of police use of excessive force compared to the second-generation group and native-born group. Originality/value Much research on immigrants’ perceptions of the police has yielded conflicting findings. Part of the reason has been attributed to failure to distinguish first-generation immigrants from successive generations of immigrants. The present study fills a gap in this line of research by assessing the extent to which there is a disparity in support for police use of force between different generations of immigrants and native-born individuals.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy (OPAT) can decrease the length of hospital stay but is associated with adverse events (AEs). The purpose of this study was to quantify and identify risk factors for OPAT-associated AEs in children. Methods This is a retrospective, single-center study of patients aged ≤21 years discharged on OPAT from January 2016 to April 2019. Only patients with OPAT overseen by the infectious disease service were included. Medication AE’s included: rash, neutropenia, hepatitis, diarrhea, C. difficile infection, increased serum creatinine, or others. Central line AEs included: central line dysfunction, infection, rash around line site, or other. Wilcoxon rank-sum test, Pearson’s χ2 test, Fisher’s exact test, and multivariable logistic regression models were used for analyses. Results Demographic information can be found in Table 1. Among 176 patients included in the study, an AE occurred in 69 (39%). In a multivariable logistic regression model adjusting for age, county of residence, duration of OPAT, and duration line was in place, each additional day of antibiotics increased the odds of having a medication or line-related AE by 3% (OR 1.03; 95% CI 1.01–1.06; P = 0.005; Table 2). Medication AEs occurred in 30 patients (17%). The most frequent medication AEs were neutropenia (24%), rash (15%), and increased liver function tests (15%). Patients residing in a Large Fringe Metro area (suburb) had 33% lower odds of having a drug-related AE compared with those in a Large Central Metro area (OR 0.67; 95% CI 0.50 to 0.90; P = 0.008). Line AEs occurred in 46 patients (26%), with 10 patients (21%) experiencing >1 line AE. The most common line AEs were line malfunction (56.5%) and line infection (13%). Seven patients experienced both a medication AE and a central line AE. Of the 176 patients, 20 (11%) were readmitted to the hospital due to medication or line AE and an additional 25 (14%) had a healthcare visit for an AE although did not require admission. Conclusion In our region, nearly 40% of children experienced an OPAT-associated AE and line AEs were more common than medication AEs. Longer durations of IV therapy was an independent risk factor for AEs. Converting to oral antibiotic therapy as soon as feasible may reduce OPAT-associated AEs. Abstract:
In international trade, from a cargo departure point to destination point, there may be two basic ways to use transportation means, by sea or railway as there are geographically several availabilities of airways ,railway lines and sea voyage lines and meantime transportation costs are dynamically changed, it is possible to draw some area by use of Geographic-Economic Line, which gives business people an easy reference for their choosing transportation means for logistic solution to some kinds of cargos. This paper first introduces general situation of China-Europe and Middle East block train development. Second the paper focused on China-Iran block train case, collected various railway and sea way transportation route and rate information to support deep analysis. Third, the paper developed some formulas to find the balanced cost by using all available data. Finally, the paper traced from cost information to get geographic places which are further turn out to be as economic balanced lines marked in map which could serve as reference lines for their easy decision.

Abstract:
This article deals with the introduction of logistics control panels (or logistics cockpits) in the German industry. Control panels are applied as a strategy-oriented support for logistics management in line with the logistics controlling, in order to react to the transport and loading processes in real time. In an example from the German steel industry, there was an improvement in the adherence to schedules in the first six months after the implementation of a logistics cockpit. The means of transportation processing time could be reduced as well. This can be attributed to a logistics control panel‘s increased transparency regarding transport, storage and loading capacities and to a faster possible reaction to deviations. Abstract:
Background<br />Family support and low discrimination perceptions are a factor in protecting against mental disorders and poor quality of life in male to female (MtF) gender dysphoric individuals. The aim of this study was to determine the role of family factors, peer support, self-esteem, perceived discrimination, depression, anxiety, and stress on the quality of life among MtF gender dysphoric individuals. <br /><br />Methods<br />A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 106 MtF gender dysphoric individuals of Sanggar Swara Jakarta. Respondents filled out questionnaires on demographics, WHOQL-BREF, perceived discrimination, Rosenberg self-esteem, family support, social support (SSQ6), family relations (FACES III), and depression anxiety stress scale (DASS). Simple and multivariate logistic regression tests were used to analyze the data.<br /><br />Results<br />Among the 106 MtF gender dysphoric individuals of Sanggar Swara Jakarta with an age range of 18-45 years, 78.3% had no family support, 64.1% no peer support, 62.3% high perception discrimination, 64.1% low self-esteem, 36% extreme family relations, 44.3% depression, 59.4% anxiety, 35.8% stress and 62.3% poor quality of life. Employment, perception of discrimination, self-esteem, family support, and anxiety were significantly associated with quality of life (p&lt;0.05). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that perceived discrimination (Odds Ratio=13.89; 95% CI: 5.89-11.99), and family support (Odds Ratio=29.11; 95% CI: 2.45-8.21) were significantly associated with quality of life. <br /><br />Conclusion <br />High perceived discrimination and no family support increase the risk of poor quality of life in MtF gender dysphoric individuals. These findings suggest the need for prevention and intervention of stigmatization and discrimination that should have a special focus on families with MtF gender dysphoric individuals.

Abstract:
AbstractThe COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed all aspects of American life, including, for many, how we vote. We explore the question of who supports unrestricted absentee ballots during a pandemic. We argue that women are more likely to support absentee ballots because they allow for greater flexibility and minimize the potential for exposure. We test this theory using the National Panel Study of COVID-19 (n = 1,892), which asked respondents about their preferences for absentee ballots, their worry about the coronavirus, and their household composition. Using multinomial logistic regressions, we find that women are more likely to support allowing absentee ballots compared with more restrictive voting options and are more likely to say they support absentee ballots for all if they know someone who has contracted COVID-19. The policy implications for these findings are discussed along with other sociodemographic indicators in our analysis.

Abstract:
Purpose To examine the prevalence and correlates of anxiety in a community sample of adolescents. Knowing the prevalence and characteristics of anxious adolescents is valuable to improve anxiety prevention strategies and interventions. Design Cross-sectional data about anxiety were collected via a school survey from a community sample of Norwegian adolescents aged 12–17 ( N = 1719). Methods Based on scores from the Spence Children’s Anxiety Scale, the adolescents were categorized as not anxious or anxious. Logistic regression analysis was performed to access the impact of each factor on the likelihood that participants would report an elevated level of anxiety. Results A total of 22% of the adolescents were categorized as anxious. Female gender, experienced negative life events, low social support, and low self-efficacy were associated with elevated level of anxiety. Conclusions The high prevalence of anxiety in adolescents demonstrates the importance of improved prevention interventions targeting anxious adolescents. We argue that addressing is the responsibility of not only the individual adolescents and their families but also schools, school health services, and policy makers. School-based interventions that increase social support and self-efficacy would probably be particularly beneficial for anxious adolescents.

Abstract:
The aim of the present study was to investigate what kinds of social supports contribute to the higher quality of life (QOL) of home care patients with intractable neurological disease. We investigated the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) and social supports to 74 patients with intractable neurological disease in a city of the Aichi prefecture, Japan. Association between WHOQOL and social supports was examined using multiple logistic regression analyses adjusting activities of daily living (ADL). High WHOQOL scores were associated with “attending patient gatherings held by the public health center,” “having someone who will listen empathically to anxieties or troubles,” and ADL. Physical health was associated with ADL, while psychological well-being was related to “having a hobby,” “having someone who will listen,” and “having a hospital for admission in emergencies.” Patients not having someone who will listen were more likely to participate in the gatherings. The present findings suggest that having someone who will provide emotional support is important for home care patients with neurological diseases. Patient gatherings held by the public health center were expected to provide patients with emotional support.

Abstract:
Palabras claves: Envase, Embalaje, Logística, Cadena de Suministro, SostenibilidadPackaging as support of efficiency and sustainability in supply chain. An applied approachAbstract: In higher competitive markets, the suitable supply chain management (particularly, in logistic processes) and the adoption of sustainability programs are strategic points in companies. In this context, no many companies have devoted special attention to the impact of packaging design on logistic efficiency and sustainability. Thus, the integration of logistics and the packaging design has been conceptualized in the term «packaging logistics», particularly emphasizing the operational and organizational repercussions. The core of the concept of packaging logistics is a packaging-focused view, which seeks to integrate the multidisciplinary aspects of packaging (marketing, logistics and environmental) and coordinate the three levels of the packaging system (primary, secondary and tertiary). Authors consider that a greater emphasis should be given to the important strategic connotations to do with packaging design, in many cases this being one of the supports of competitive advantages in the supply chain management from an overall perspective of efficiency and sustainability. With this approach in mind, the design and development of packaging would be structured on four basic cornerstones: the definition of the design requirements, the definition of an appropriate organizational structure for packaging design (internally in the company and externally in the supply chain), the application of «best practices» (in aspects such as palletization, modularity, resizing, standardization of formats and qualities, re-use, recycling …) and, finally, the definition of a system to measure and compare the different packaging alternatives (in terms of materials, dimensions, number of units/pack and «aesthetic» presentation). In this context, the main objective of this paper is to illustrate the application of the «Packaging Logistics» approach at IKEA through the deployment of its four cornerstones. This implementation is one of the pillars of its strategy of sustainability and logistic efficiency. Likewise, the article makes a special emphasis on the impact of the implementation of «best practices» in packaging design, such as the SRPs (Shelf Ready Packaging), the cardboard pallets, the «loading ledge» or the «High Cube» containers. In this line, the paper also illustrates the redesigning and improving of packaging with the description of seven changes implemented in products. With measures such as those outlined throughout this paper the company has improved its occupancy level of transport, in a context of increasing complexity in their supply chain and increased fuel costs. Simultaneously, the company has reduced, not only its CO2 emissions per m3 and km., but also the amount of materials and waste generated by its packaging. The path taken by IKEA in implementing the «packaging logistics» approach, combining logistics efficiency and sustainability («Lean and Green»), could be assimilated and adapted by other companies, regardless of sector or size, as it would contribute to improving their competitiveness through innovation of products and processes within the supply chain. Keywords: Packaging, Sustainability, Logistics, Supply Chain

Abstract:
Background Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation procedure (ECMO) has been established in the therapy of respiratory insufficient infants with congenital diaphragmatic hernia. In congenital diaphragmatic hernia newborns, a delay in transfer to an ECMO centre is associated with a sharp increase in mortality. Predictive factors for ECMO support are urgently needed. We evaluated the routine parameters of the first blood withdrawal after birth in congenital diaphragmatic hernia infants, hypothesizing that early signs in bone marrow affecting haematology parameters for early regulation of potentially post birth hypoxia are predictive factors for ECMO support. Materials and methods In 44 patients born with congenital diaphragmatic hernia, differential blood cell count from the first blood withdrawal after birth was examined. Descriptive statistics included median, 95% confidence intervals, minimum and maximum differentiating ECMO/early mortality vs. no ECMO. Odds ratios with CI were calculated by binary logistic regression analysis. Best predictive markers were further checked in combination with the liver-up situation in two factorial regression models. Results In our cohort, the survival rate was 77.3% (34/44). While 18 neonates received ECMO support, 26 experienced no ECMO during hospital stay. Odds ratio calculations showed that risk for ECMO support increases with augmenting leukocytes, erythrocytes, haemoglobin, haematocrit, mean cell volume and absolute immature granulocytes. Further, the risk advanced in line with the severity of congenital diaphragmatic hernia assessed by prenatal ultrasound. Conclusions We conclude that these parameters are associated with disease severity in congenital diaphragmatic hernia newborns and may be considered potentially predictive biomarkers for the necessity of ECMO support.

Abstract:
Purpose This study aims to focus on the following research question: Which institutional characteristics are associated with sustainability reporting by UK higher education institutions? Design/methodology/approach To answer the aforementioned research question, this study uses logistic regression. Findings The results show that 17 per cent of the UK higher education institutions report on their sustainability (July 2014). In line with legitimacy and stakeholder theory, logistic regressions provide evidence that the larger the size of the institution, the higher the probability of reporting. By contrast, high public funding decreases this probability. Research limitations/implications The findings show characteristics of higher education institutions that support or hamper sustainability reporting. Overall, the findings imply a lack of institutionalisation of sustainability reporting among higher education institutions. Originality/value Although a lot of research has been done on corporate sustainability reporting, only a small number of studies have addressed the issues of sustainability reporting of higher education institutions. This study covers all sustainability reports disclosed among the 160 UK higher education institutions. It is the first study that investigates characteristics of higher education institutions that disclose a sustainability report.
