This diploma thesis aims to review and assess a current state of Czech retail market with fast-moving consumer goods and to analyze a logistic base of leading retail chains doing business in the Czech Republic. A reader can learn about development of retail in the last few years, but also about prediction of the future trends. Based on the theoretical background regarding retail and logistics, the analysis of particular leading companies is made. Moreover, possible future efficiency improvements of companies' process which could lead to better market position are considered. The result of the thesis is the clear picture of well operating retail chain, its logistics and a flow of the goods into the retail market as a whole.

Abstract:
This diploma thesis is aimed on problems of supply chain management with selected assortment. It is focused on particular ways of supply management with fresh meat, on the flow of goods from producer to final customer and analyze the impact on key performance indicators pursued by a company. In the first three parts of the thesis is described the logistics systém in Ahold Czech Republic. In the following part of the thesis, supply chain of selected assortment is analyzed in this particular company and also how it is defined in the logistics theory. It is followed by detailed analysis of the new logistic system which was proposed to launch, including the definition of critical points. Final part of this diploma thesis is devoted to summary of expected benefits and costs and to evaluation of this new logistics system according to actual results.

This thesis deals with facility management. The first part handles facility management as such, its nature, basic concepts, historical development, instruments, ways of providing services and participants. Level of provided services in the Czech Republic is analyzed. Based on received knowledge of the field the other part is focused on detailed specification of facility management services provided in the area of logistic centers management. On the example of individual services there are described differences in management of logistic centres and possible solutions of these situations. The benefit of this thesis consists in providing a comprehensive view of logistics centres management and suggesting possible improvements.

The main topic of this diploma thesis on the theme "Evaluation capital project of development a logistics center -- Concept 2015" is the selection of two options for development a distibution warehouse. The methodological part of graduation thesis is focused on theoretical knowledge processing relating to issues of logistics center, investment decisions, financila analyses and method of funding of investments. In the practival part are processed requirements of logistics center, invesmtent and overhead costs for option of development distribution warehouse in Czech republic and for option development in Germany. Total costs for both possibility are funding of financial bank loans. At the conclusion are both of these evaluated by cash flow and net present value.

Abstract:
Abstract Purpose – The purpose of the study is to identify key-factors for the development of reverse logistics in a distribution central. The study should contribute to cover the knowledge gap that is the problem area: development of reverse logistics in a distribution central. This, since former research primarily deal with the problem area: development of reverse logistics between costumer and focal firm. The purpose of the study has been broken down into two research questions. The first one deals with which forces that affect the development of reverse logistics in a distribution central. Further, important factors for the development of reverse logistics in a distribution central will be identified. Method – The method for the study is an one case study since only one process will be studied. Also, to be able to obtain more profound knowledge within the problem area. The chosen business case is named Ikea distribution central and is located on the industrial area Torsvik. The company is active on the furniture market. The literature collection has been done through four different methods which are: recommendations of search words, recommendations of articles, database searches and snowball sampling. Further, the data collection has been made through interviews, document studies and observations. Finally, the internal validity of the study is high under the circumstance that theories regarding the development of reverse logistics based on B2C is considered to be applicable on the problem area which is based in B2B. Further, the external validity of the study is considered to be low since only one business case was studied. Although, the theory and empiricism of the study has been analysed which in turn strengthens the external validity. Findings – With the collected theories and empiricism as background the authors has produced a basis on which key-factors that are important for the development of reverse logistics in a distribution central. The key-factors that were identified as important and should be taken under consideration is: driving- and hindering forces for the development of reverse logistics in a distribution central, the primary causes of reverse logistics in a distribution central, return avoidance, gatekeeping, supplier relationship management and green logistics. Further, it was discovered that a big factor for a favourable development of reverse logistics in a distribution central was continuous training of the personal simultaneously as the development of the reverse logistics process. Implications – Through the analysis of the study it became clear that a big amount of hinders that can occur in association with the development of reverse logistics, comes as a result of the gap in understanding between the management and the operating core. With this as background the authors of the study recommends that whenever a process is developed, great importance should be added in developing the personal working in the process. Limitations – The limitations which lowers the internal validity and in turn the credibility of the study is that many of the theories used in the study is based on B2C. Another limitation is the choice of one case study since the research questions aimed at obtaining general conclusions. Syfte – Syftet med studien är att identifiera nyckelfaktorer för utvecklingen av returlogistik på en distributionscentral. Studien skall bidra till att täcka det kunskapsgap som finns i problemområdet utveckling av returlogistik på en distributionscentral. Detta då tidigare forskning primärt behandlat problemområdet mellan kund och fokalfirma. Studiens syfte har brutits ned i två frågeställningar. Först vill studiens författare ta reda på vilka krafter som påverkar utvecklingen av returlogistik på en distributionscentral. Vidare skall viktiga faktorer för utvecklingen av returlogistik på en distributionscentral identifieras. Metod – Studiens valda metod är enfallsstudie då endast en process studeras, även för att kunna erhålla mer djupgående kunskap om det valda problemområdet. Studiens fallföretag är Ikea distributionscentral som är lokaliserade på industriområdet Torsvik utanför Jönköping och är verksamma inom möbelbranschen. Litteraturinsamlingen har genomförts med hjälp av fyra olika insamlingsmetoder: rekommendation av sökord, rekommendation av artikel, sökning i databaser och snowball sampling. Vidare har studiens insamlade data erhållits genom intervjuer, dokumentstudier samt observationer. Slutligen anses studiens interna validitet vara hög, under förutsättningen att teorier om utvecklingen av returlogistik baserade på B2C även anses vara applicerbara i B2B. Vidare anses den externa validiteten vara låg då endast ett företag har studerats. Dock har teorin och empirin analyserats för att nå generella resultat, vilket stärker den externa validiteten. Resultat – Med studiens insamlade teori och empiri som bakgrund har författarna tagit fram underlag för vilka nyckelfaktorer som är viktiga för utvecklingen av returlogistik på en distributionscentral. De nyckelfaktorer som identifierades som viktiga och bör tas i beaktande var: drivande- och hindrande krafter för utvecklingen av returlogistik på en distributionscentral, grundorsaker för returlogistik på en distributionscentral, return avoidance, gatekeeping, supplier relationship management och grön logistik. Vidare upptäcktes att en stor påverkande faktor för en gynnsam utveckling av returlogistik på en distributionscentral var kontinuerlig utbildning av personal i samband med utvecklingen av sin returlogistikprocess. Implikationer – I studiens analys framkom det att många av de hinder som kan uppstå i samband med utvecklingen av returlogistik handlar om det förståelsegap som finns mellan ledning och den operativa kärnan. Med detta som bakgrund rekommenderar studiens författare att ett företag måste lägga stor vikt på att se till att en utveckling sker både på process-nivå och personal-nivå. Begränsningar – Det som anses begränsa den interna validiteten och i sin tur studiens trovärdighet är att många av de teorier som har använts primärt är grundade i B2C. En ytterligare begränsning är valet av enfallsstudie, detta då forskningsfrågorna och syftet formulerades för att söka generella slutsatser. Abstract:
I Norrköping ökade antalet invånare med 4000 mellan åren 2005 och 2010 samtidigt som en bostadsbrist uppstod 2009. För att försöka komma tillrätta med bostadsbristen byggs det allt mer och många av dessa nya bostäder byggs inne i stadskärnan. Problem som kan uppstå i samband med byggnationer i innerstaden är bl.a. att områden ibland spärras av och att tunga transporter rör sig i trånga utrymmen vilket blir en säkerhetsrisk för t.ex. fotgängare. Detta har lett till att Norrköpings kommun har övervägt frågan om att införa en samlastningscentral för byggmaterial för att minska de tunga transporterna. Målet med denna studie är att baserat på ett antal kriterier ta fram olika alternativplatser och sedan analysera dessa utifrån ett antal aspekter för att ta fram den lämpligaste platsen. Aspekterna valdes baserat på vad som ansågs vara viktigast men går även att styrka med hjälp av litteratur. Det valdes även olika aspekter för att eventuellt kunna lyfta fram olika styrkor och svagheter hos de olika platserna. För att kunna analysera en plats genererades ett antal rutter från varje plats till en fast referenspunkt i stadskärnan och denna punkt var densamma för alla platser. Dessa rutter genererades med hjälp av Google Maps och fördes sedan in i GIS-programmet. Programmet som användes var QGIS och med hjälp av t.ex. olycksstatistik gick det att ta fram vilka rutter som var de mest olycksdrabbade. Det som analyserades i QGIS var bostadsområden, skolor, olycksstatistik och framkomlighet. Sedan rangordnades de olika rutterna från bäst till sämst och poängsattes från 1–10. Ett medelvärde togs fram för varje plats där ruttpoängerna dividerades med antalet rutter från just den platsen. Sedan rangordnades platserna baserat på medelvärdet där den bästa fick poängen 4 och den sämsta poängen 1. Sedan multipliceras denna poäng med den tilldelade faktorn för varje aspekt. Därmed får alla aspekter spela in i resultatet och den platsen med den högsta poängen blir den bästa placeringen. Det visade sig att den plats som är bäst sett ur säkerhet är plats 3: Linköpingsvägen och sett ur framkomlighet var plats 1 bäst. Den platsen som var bäst sett från effektivitet var plats 4: Söderleden 106. Baserat på alla aspekter blir plats 1: Händelö gård 3 den bästa. Därmed är slutsatsen att plats 1 är den bästa totalt men beroende på vad som anses vara viktigast går det att få fram olika resultat och skulle andra aspekter användas skulle antagligen ett annat resultat fås.

Bakalauro baigiamajame darbe pateikiama statybų logistika teoriniu aspektu ir įvertinama UAB „Dažymo technologijų centras“ statybų logistika. Teorinėje dalyje aptariama logistikos samprata, aprašoma logistikos sistema, išskiriamos statybų logistikos medžiagų tiekimo, statybvietės – sandėliavimo posistemės. Bakalauro baigiamuoju darbu siekiama įvertinti UAB „Dažymo technologijų centras“ statybų logistiką ir nustatyti priemones, kurios leistų optimizuoti įmonės statybų procesą logistikos pagrindu. Įvertinus UAB „Dažymo technologijų centras“ statybų logistiką pastebėti žymūs, daugiausiai įmonėje naudojamų, medžiagų tiekimo ir statybvietės sandėliavimo posistemių valdymo trūkumai. Pasireiškiantys dėl nepakankamo dėmesio skyrimo ir kompetencijos stokos šioms įmonės veikloms.
There is submitted construction‘s logistics by theoretical aspect and estimating construction‘s logistics of UAB “Dažymo technologijų centras“ in Bachelor's final work. Logistics conception is disputed in theoretic part, also subsystems of construction logistics materials' delivery and construction – place and storage are discerned in this part of final work. Final Bachelor's work tries to evaluate construction‘s logistics of UAB „Dažymo technologijų centras“ and to identify measures that could improve construction company's activity. In spite of obtained profitt there were observed significant disadvantages of company‘s materials suply and construction-place subsystem when logistics of construction company UAB „Dažymo technologijų centras“ was evaluated. Disadvantages occur due to the lack of attention and competition to these activities of company.

Abstract:
Hur företag distribuerar produkter till sina kunder har en betydande roll för kostnaderna relaterade till distributionen men också för den servicegrad som företaget erbjuder sina kunder. Att hela tiden förändra distributionen efter de förutsättningar som ges är en nyckel för att hålla kostnaderna nere och servicegraden uppe. De förändrade förutsättningarna har för Fiskeby Board AB inneburit att tyngdpunkten för var deras kunder befinner sig geografiskt har förflyttats från i huvudsak norra Europa (Sverige, Norge, Finland etc.) till centrala/norra Europa. Många av Fiskebys kunder är placerade i Tyskland, Polen och Frankrike till exempel. Det har inneburit att Fiskeby nu måste förändra sin distributionslösning till exempel genom att upprätta ett eller flera distributionslager i centrala Europa. Målet med det här examensarbetet är att ta fram ett beslutsunderlag till var Fiskeby bör placera ett eller flera distributionslager i centrala Europa baserat på att lastbilstransporter av produkter är möjliga överallt i centrala Europa men också ifall tågtransport av produkter är möjlig till Duisburg, Tyskland. En optimeringsmodell har tagits fram som hanterar ruttplanering av fordon och lokalisering av distributionslager. Optimeringsmodellen har som mål att minimera kostnaderna, men ett av de primära målen med den nya distributionslösningen som optimeringsmodellen motsvarar utöver att minimera kostnaderna är även att minska ledtiderna för att öka servicegraden till Fiskebys kunder. Optimeringsmodellens resultat baserades på verkliga indata från Fiskebys för det första halvåret 2017 och tog hänsyn till ledtider, distributörer, distanser etc. Resultaten visade att ifall tågtransport vore möjlig till Duisburg skulle ett distributionslager upprättas i Duisburg och det skulle innebära en kostnadsbesparing för transportkostnader med 2,88 Mkr (15,83 %), minskad genomsnittsledtid för transport till kund efter avrop med 1,20 arbetsdagar och minskade koldioxidutsläpp med 489,79 ton på ett halvår. I fall tågtransporter inte vore möjliga skulle ett distributionslager upprättas i Lübeck vilket skulle generera en kostnadsbesparing för transportkostnader med 2,02 Mkr (11,16 %), minskad genomsnittsledtid till kund efter avrop på 0,89 arbetsdagar och minskade koldioxidutsläpp på 41,81 ton på ett halvår. Den totala kostnaden för nuläget är 18,19 Mkr men den ökar oavsett ifall ett distributionslager upprättas i Lübeck eller Duisburg. Ifall ett distributionslager upprättas i Lübeck ökar totala kostnaden till 19,92 Mkr och ifall ett distributionslager upprättas i Duisburg ökar den totala kostnaden till 18,87 Mkr.

Abstract:
Stadium driver i dagsläget en centrallagerlösning i Norrköping sedan år 2006. Det har skett en stabil ökning av både butiker samt omsättning sedan bolaget startades. Stadium har ett avtal med PostNord angående driften av lagerverksamheten på centrallagret samt Pema angående bemanningen. Bolagets ökning av butiker har lett till att de nått en väldigt hög nivå i beläggning i centrallagret och därför behövdes en genomlysning av centrallagrets plockprocesser ske. Ett beslutsunderlag har tagits fram för att hjälpa Stadiumlagret med sin frekvensläggning av orderplocket. Två olika plockprocesser har jämförts med varandra, Banan och ett plocktorg. Banan är en automatiserad bana där plocklådor med ordrar transporteras längs Banans olika plockzoner, medan plocktorget är en tom yta där pallar med artiklar placeras och sedan plockas. Tidsstudier och observationer genomfördes på både Banan och plocktorget och dess olika steg i processerna, för att se vilken som var mest tidseffektiv. Kriterier och variabler togs fram för att kunna avgöra vad det är som påverkar respektive plockprocess. Beräkningar utformades för att göra Banans och plocktorgets tider jämförbara. Den plockprocess som sedan tog minst tid totalt skulle vara den bästa plockprocessen att plocka i. För att utforma ett beslutsunderlag som enkelt skulle illustrera ifall skor skulle plockas på plocktorget eller Banan, gjorde valet att utforma beslutsunderlaget i en matris. I matrisen illustreras vid vilket antal artiklar en brytpunkt finns där det skulle vara bättre att plocka på plocktorg. För att undersöka ifall centrallagret någon gång kom upp i de kvantiteter som krävdes för att nå brytpunkten användes verkliga exempel. En känslighetsanalys genomfördes där data från verkliga exempel användes och sorterades på olika sätt, för att undersöka om stora skillnader i resultatet i matrisen skulle uppenbaras. Det resulterade i sex olika matriser, tre olika sorteringar för två separata dagar av orderplock. Beslutsunderlagets matris visade att Banan var den mest effektiva plockprocessen att använda i den dagliga verksamheten för orderplocket. Anledningen till det var att Stadiumlagret inte plockade skor i de kvantiteter som brytpunkterna efterfrågade. Oavsett hur datan sorteras så övergick aldrig den totala kvantiteten av orderplock de brytpunkterna som hade beräknats. Det var en av sorteringarna som kom närmre brytpunkten än de andra två, men inte tillräckligt nära för att frekvenslägga orderplocket på plocktroget istället för Banan. Rekommendationen till PostNord blev därför att de inte skulle använda plocktorget till det ordinarie orderplocket i den dagliga verksamheten, på grund av att det är mindre effektivt att plocka på plocktorget. Plocktorget kan dock användas som ett komplement till Banan precis som den används i dagsläget. Tillfällen då plocktorget kan användas är när det exempelvis inte finns tillräckligt antal lediga plockplatser på Banan, om artiklarna är för otympliga för att plocka på Banan eller om antalet pieces av en artikel skulle medföra orimligt många påfyllningar av Banans plockplatser.

The contribution of diploma thesis is to clarify what the logistics center actually is, its function, role, providing services and bringing benefits not only to economic but also non-economic entities in its vicinity. Start of construction of logistics centers occurred in the Czech Republic and Slovakia at different times, which could be caused by many different factors, but we can simply say that the construction was started with the arrival of foreign investors in the market and lack of storage and distribution network here in the meantime occurring. Central European market is still due to relatively cheap labor attractive place for the construction of logistics centers for investors, because of this there is still the ongoing construction. Market Characteristics of Czech Republic and Slovakia is primarily focused on describing the situation in both markets, layout of logistics centers in countries and also the performance of developers operating in the market. Development of the construction of logistics centers in both markets can be divided roughly into three periods-the pre-crisis known as boom years, a period of financial crisis and post-crisis period marked as the revival phase.

Linköpings kommun ska införa samordnad varudistribution för transporter till kommunens verksamheter. I nuläget går kommunens transporter direkt från leverantörerna till kommunens verksamheter. Med samordnad varudistribution kommer kommunens gods att anlända till en samlastningscentral där godset samlastas och körs ut till de kommunala verksamheterna. Förhoppningen är att detta ska ge en minskning av koldioxidutsläpp, partikelutsläpp, godshantering vid verksamheterna och minskad tung trafik vid kommunens verksamheter. För att kunna utvärdera resultatet av samordnad varudistribution krävs att transportpåverkan innan ett införande kan mätas och jämföras med dess påverkan efter ett införande. För att dessa mätningar ska kunna jämföras krävs att mätningarna genomförs på samma sätt före och efter införandet. Det finns en osäkerhet kring hur detta skulle kunna mätas. Syftet med studien är att undersöka vilka nyckeltal som är intressanta att mäta före och efter ett införande av samordnad varudistribution. Många städer har svårigheter gällande trafikstockningar och miljöfarliga utsläpp som leder till negativa effekter för både människor och miljön. Godstrafiken behövs för att transportera gods från fabriker till slutkunder men påverkar både växthuseffekten och stadsmiljö genom miljöfarliga utsläpp, buller och trafikolyckor. En samlastningscentral minskar bland annat på de negativa externa effekterna av godstransporter i städerna. Intervjuer har genomförts för att undersöka hur andra verksamheter som infört samordnad varudistribution gått tillväga och vad de fått för resultat. Det framkom att det var svårigheter med att få fram transportdata före införandet och att transportsituationen är väldigt komplex. Genom att verksamheterna har mer information om sina godstransporter underlättar det för dem att planera och styra över dem. En ökad positiv miljöeffekt för staden skulle kunna nås om fler verksamheter använde sig av samlastning.

O objetivo deste trabalho é o de mostrar como os centros de distribuição (CD) podem melhorar a qualidade de atendimento ao cliente e o transporte urbano na atividade de distribuição de bebidas. Para isso, é necessário um aprofundamento teórico dos conceitos de logística e de todas as atividades que a compõe como vendas, produção, armazenagem, distribuição, custos, sem se esquecer dos conceitos de marketing, do relacionamento com o cliente e da sua satisfação. Isso para obter um sistema integrado entre a produção e o consumidor. Foram realizados levantamentos entre vários distribuidores de bebidas de forma a relatar a situação atual desse mercado. Foram analisados distribuidores franqueados de grandes marcas assim como pequenos distribuidores independentes. Os resultados das pesquisas mostram que boa parte desses distribuidores desconhece técnicas de armazenagem e de roteirização, trabalhando empiricamente. Verifica-se uma grande desvantagem competitiva entre os pequenos distribuidores franqueados de marcas de menor expressão ou independentes, em relação aos grandes distribuidores franqueados de grandes marcas com grande penetração no mercado, em razão destes terem entre outras vantagens a possibilidade de melhor aproveitamento de sua capacidade de distribuição. Conclui-se que os centros de distribuição, integrando todas as marcas ou pelo menos todas as marcas de menor expressão, pode ser a estratégia adequada para uma distribuição com qualidade e rentabilidade.
The purpose of this paper is to show how the center of distribution (CD) can improve the quality on service for clients and urban transportation in the beverage distribution activities. Therefore, it is necessary to make a deeper study of logistical concepts and all the activities that are part of it, such as sales production, storage, distribution, costs, including also the concepts of marketing, relationship with the client and his/her satisfaction. It is an order to get an integrated system between production and costumer. A research was accomplished among several beverage distributors in order to make a reference of market field. Franchisee distributors for large trade marks as well as small independent distributors were analysed. The result of the studies show us that a larger amount of these distributors do not realize the storage and routing know-how, working empirically. It is verified a great competitive desadvantage between the few-expressive or independent small franchisee distributors and the large franchisee distributor representing the large trade marks with a huge acceptance in the market. Then, it is concluded that the center distribution integrating all the trade marks or at least all the less expressive ones can be the adequate strategy for a qualified and profitable distribution.

The thesis consists of seven chapters which highlight the importance of logistics to sustain conventional warfare; identifies shortcomings within NATO's Central Region of Europe, where the UK has committed forces; and suggests methods of overcoming some of the resource deficiencies by enhanced management. The first chapter defines logistics and highlights the importance of Central Europe to the NATO Alliance. The second chapter examines the albeit changing perspective and nature of conflict in the European Theatre. The third chapter identifies the different military logistics management systems used by the Central Europe NATO Allies and the Soviet forces; and draws interesting conclusions concerning the UK's logistics methods. The fourth chapter examines the sensitive subject of sustainability and logistic stock levels which includes an examination of the burden sharing debate. The fifth chapter defines and examines the concept of interoperability of military means and resources within NATO, an area of weakness. The sixth chapter outlines NATO command responsibilities for logistics in the Central Region, which is also a weak area. The construction industry’s world is very complex, competitive and challenging. That means that everyone who is involved needs to be constantly updated and follow the latest technological trends and ideas to be able to work on a viable project by minimizing the problems.  Nevertheless, there are always different complications that arise mainly because there is not much attention given to logistics and logistics solutions. The purpose of this thesis is to identify the major problems in the Swedish construction industry as well as their corresponding logistics solutions applied by different companies. Moreover, this research will try to investigate how the use of the fairly new concept of Construction Consolidation Centers can improve the situation primarily with the material transportation. The current thesis was conducted by investigating the relevant literature and arranging interviews with a few of the many consultant companies working in the construction industry. The outcomes from both investigations are analyzed and compared showing that there are important differences between the theory (literature review) and the reality (interviews) as some of the main problems in real projects do not appear in the current literature. It is also clearly exposed that Construction Consolidation Centers are a game changer to this kind of projects and such a solution is suggested from both sides, while there is high necessity from the companies to emphasize on the logistics and invest more on their logistics solutions.

The recent surge of direct-to-customer (DTC) orders in the retail industry has increasingly put pressure on omni-channel retailers' supply chain networks to offer faster and cheaper delivery while maintaining their supply chain cost position and committed service level agreements. As warehousing and logistics operations are not part of the core business for most omni-channel retailers, both operations are often outsourced to third-party logistics (3PL) companies. This makes it challenging for omni-retailers to actually improve these operations to handle the surging DTC orders through the relationships with their 3PL partners. This thesis presents cost analysis frameworks for improving the effectiveness of warehousing and logistics cost structures in outsourced omni-channel retail distribution networks. The thesis also conveys short-term and long-term strategy recommendations for reducing supply chain costs of these networks through a case study based on Verizon's retail supply chain network. First, a short-term strategy is proposed through leveraging the key cost drivers identified in a should-cost model developed to simulate receiving, pick-pack, and verification operations in distribution centers (DCs) based on a set of parameter inputs, such as volume, labor rate, labor standard time, facility location, staffing strategy, etc. This zero-based should-cost modeling technique can help the hiring company enhance their bargaining power in contract negotiation with 3PL companies in order to realize cost savings and collaborate on implementing new technologies. Second, a long-term strategy is formed to provide frameworks for omni-channel retailers to reconsider the pros and cons of outsourcing and to think of building sustainable and collaborative relationships with 3PL companies for the coming challenges in the omni-channel retail industry. The recommended execution plan is to stay with a centralized DC model and transition to partnering with capable 3PL service providers to pool ground shipments in order to achieve zone-skipping before the last mile delivery for the future.

The continued growth of regions in a state of economic expansion is often stunted by their inability to assess, maintain and expand logistics infrastructure. The need for a comprehensive, detailed and intuitively understandable logistics capability model to aid in the assessment phase of logistics maintenance and expansion provides motivation for this thesis. Logistics benchmarking can also be presented to attract prospective clients and provide basis for further development. Through the process of extensive literature review, we perform objective evaluations and provide a single recommendation for regional logistics capability modeling within a limited research scope. We recommend a 12 category logistic evaluator model with an interview process and expert scoring. The scoring is performed on the basis of logistics data and statistics. An implementation of the model is performed on Gävle, Sweden and is partially validated with a case study on GEVALIA Coffee. Implementations on SWOT and a discussion of the similarities of the 12 category logistics evaluator model and AHP will be given.

Det finns olika sätt att öka kapaciteten hos en flygledare. En av de är att göra samordningar mer effektiva. Samordningar sker idag via datalänk eller verbalt, då genom telefonsamordning eller face-to-face. Det finns även icke verbala samordningar där bara kroppsspråk står för en del av kommunikationen. På en kontrollcentral utförs många samordningar och informationsdelningar mellan flygledare. Detta görs för att kunna hålla en hög säkerhet men ändå arbeta på ett effektivt sätt. Östgöta kontrollcentral, ÖKC, har undersökts för att se om informationsdelningen kan bli effektivare samt om en flygledarassistent kan stötta två flygledare samtidigt. Med hjälp av en teoretisk referensram och litteraturstudie har det visat sig att bland annat Lean production kan appliceras på området för att utvärdera ÖKC. Författarna har observerat den operativa verksamheten på ÖKC och samlat data som i sin tur ligger till grund för de mätningar som gjorts. Därefter har ett alternativt ÖKC tagits fram med förankring i teorin om hur kontrollcentraler bör se ut för en bra social samverkan och teamwork. Utifrån data från observationen är informationssträckan som information inne på ÖKC måste färdas 150,8 meter. Detta mätetal är undersökningens viktigaste mätetal och visar att alternativet har motsvarande 130,5 meter informationssträcka, vilket ger en minskning med 20,3 meter.

An oftenforgotten step when discussing efficiency in the construction industry is the logisticprocess.The main problems which emerge, when increasing the efficiency of logisticswithin a city centre, are the location itself, the required close collaborationbetween different actors and the industry’s unwillingness to change itscurrent habits. These problems are relevant as they not only address theconcrete problem of a congested inner city but also handle an abstractproblem which is the attitudes and relationships within the constructionindustry. If these problems were tackled, a more structured industry could arise withadditional economical benefits for the entire industry.The aim is to acquire a more efficient and effective logistic process byreducing the number of transports as well as increasing the time efficiency,standard and service of the required transports. The constituent for thisreport is Skanska AB and Uppsala University.The study consists of an in depth study of literature, as well as an analysis ofprevious executed projects and interviews with different actors within theconstruction industry. The results describe the answers given by each actorand a comparison is made with the literature study.The main conclusions of the study are that without collaboration and therightful incentives a development of the logistics process within the industry is notlikely to happen. In addition to the conclusion some suggestions for changes towardsimprovement are recognized.

Urban transit and city logistics have undergone major changes in recent years, including increased peak congestion, shrinking mass transit ridership, and the introduction of ride-sharing and micro-mobility platforms. At the same time, widespread data collection offers transit agencies insight into their riders in unprecedented detail. In this setting, data has the potential to inform decision-making and make meaningful impact on problems of great public interest. This thesis concerns data-driven decision-making for public transit systems, and spans topics from demand estimation to the design and operation of fixed-route systems and paratransit. The first chapter is concerned with origin-destination demand estimation for public transit. Our aim is to estimate demand using aggregated station entrance and exit counts, which can be modeled as the problem of recovering a matrix from its row and column sums.
We recover the demand by assuming that it follows intuitive physical properties such as smoothness and symmetry, and we contrast this approach both analytically and empirically with the maximum entropy method on real-world data. The next two chapters then use this demand data to inform strategic transit planning problems such as network design, frequency-setting, and pricing. These problems are challenging alone and made even more difficult by the complexity of commuter behavior. Our models address operator decision-making in the face of commuter preferences, and our approaches are based on column generation and first-order methods in order to model complex dynamics while scaling to realistic city settings. Finally, we explore tactical decision-making for paratransit. Paratransit is a government-mandated service that provides shared transportation for those who cannot use fixed routes due to disability.
Although paratransit is an essential safety net, it is also expensive and requires large government subsidies. These financial difficulties motivate us to develop large-scale optimization algorithms for vehicle routing in paratransit. We provide an optimization-based heuristic approach to servicing paratransit requests subject to labor constraints; this approach shows strong performance while also being tractable for several thousand daily requests..

The purpose of this thesis is to develop an integrated model which involves creative and analytical features for designing a cost effective logistics centre layout on operational level, with respect to time and space utilization. Engineering methods, creative skills, simulation and multi-criteria decision making methods were integreted in the  developed model. The model has been implemented and validated in Oskarshamn Intralog, which is a sister company of Scania. After applying the model in the case company, three different layout concepts were generated based on engineering and simulation techniques. These concepts were evaluated from utilization of space, time and flexibility aspects. Furthermore, multi criteria decision making method was used to select the most cost effective layout concept among these concepts. Different aspects helped to see various effects of warehouse operations on layout design. Simulation was used as a powerful tool to test cycle time within designed concepts. Clearly it was concluded that a combination of two concepts led to reach the expected results as an optimum point among space, time utilization and flexibility which fullfilled the answer to both academical and practical problem


 

Syftet med den här uppsatsen är att utveckla en integrerad modell som inbegriper kreativa och analytiska egenskaper. Modellen ska användas till att designa en kostnadseffektiv planering av anläggningen för ett logistikcentrum på en operationell nivå, med avseende på tid- och lagerplatsutnyttjande. Tekniska metoder, kreativitet, simulering, samt “multi-criteria decision making” är integrerade i modellen. Validering och implementering av modellen skedde på Oskarshamn Intralog, ett systerföretag till Scania. Efter tillämpning av modellen på fallföretaget, genererades tre olika koncept för planering av anläggningen. Koncepten utvärderades utifrån utnyttjande av plats, tid, samt flexibilitet. Dessutom har metoden “multi-criteria decision making” använts för att selektera det mest kostnadseffektiva av de tre koncepten. Olika aspekter på tid- och lagerplatsutnyttjande, samt flexibilitet bidrog till att se olika effekter på lagerhantering. Simuleringar genomfördes för att testa cykeltiden i de utvecklade koncepten. Slutsatsen är att en kombination av två koncept ledde till det förväntade resultatet; en optimal punkt för tid- och lagerplatsutnyttjande, samt flexibilitet, vilket uppfyller svar till de akademiska och praktiska problemen

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study is aimed at determining whether the Port of Walvis Bay has what it takes to become a future hub port on the south-western coast of Africa. An equally important aspect of this study is to promote Walvis Bay as an economically viable option for trade in and out of Central and Southern Africa, and what proportion of traffic Walvis Bay could expect to capture from competing regional ports, especially the ports of Durban and Cape Town. The conclusions arrived at in this study indicate that the prospects for transforming Walvis Bay into a future hub port will depend on the increased involvement of the private sector, political and industrial stability, as well as regional integration to mention just a few. It is clear that Walvis Bay does not pose a competitive threat to the ports of Cape Town and Durban, and can only perform a complementary role.

Studien undersöker dessutom vilka problem och utmaningar som finns, samt vilka intressekonflikter som kan uppstå vid skapandet av en hållbar citylogistik. I den teoretiska referensramen presenteras innebörden av en hållbar citylogistik samt vilka intressenter och aktörer som är involverade i skapandet av en hållbar citylogistik. De urbana godstransporternas negativa effekter på stadsmiljön redovisas sedan ur ett socialt, ekonomiskt och miljömässigt perspektiv, vilket ligger till grund för de teoretiska förbättringsförslagen. Förbättringsförslagen utgår från att de bör gynna så många intressenter som möjligt för att ses som trovärdiga, samt leda till ett förbättrat flöde av godstransporter in till, inom samt ut ur Skövdes stadskärna. För att studera problematiken i Skövdes stadskärna utifrån olika intressenters perspektiv består den empiriska datainsamlingen av en kombinerad metodansats. Denna datainsamling innehåller således en direkt observation och insamling av kvantitativa data över hur godstransporter rör sig i Skövdes stadskärna, ett flertal intervjuer med både distributörer och godsmottagare, samt en genomförd enkätstudie riktad mot centrumbesökare i Skövdes stadskärna. Varje intressentgrupp har även fått möjligheten att rangordna de urbana godstransporternas negativa effekter utifrån vad de ansåg var mer respektive mindre viktigt vid skapandet av en hållbar citylogistik i Skövde för att bidra till en hållbar stadskärna. Rapportens analys baseras på framtagna förbättringsförslag samt intressentgruppernas syn på en hållbar citylogistik. Detta för att komma fram till hur flödet av godstransporter i Skövdes stadskärna kan förbättras ur ett hållbarhetsperspektiv för att gynna flera olika intressenter. Resultatet innehåller således fyra rekommenderade förbättringsförslag som anses vara rimliga att implementera i Skövdes stadskärna inom en uppskattad tidshorisont.
In order to create an attractive urban centre where people thrive, freight transport needs to provide the urban centre businesses with deliveries. However, these urban freight transports have several negative effects on profitability, people and the planet. The aim of this case study is therefore to create a more sustainable city logistics, where the flow of freight transports into, within and out of Skövde's urban centre will be improved from both a stakeholder and sustainability perspective. The study also considers the existing problems and challenges, and what conflicts of interest can arise, in the creation of a sustainable city logistics. The theoretical framework presents the content of a sustainable city logistics and which stakeholders and actors are involved in the creation of a sustainable city logistics. Later the negative impacts of urban freight transport are described from a social, economic and environmental perspective, which forms the basis for the theoretical improvement proposals. The proposals for improvement should benefit as many stakeholders as possible in order to be credible, and improve the flow of freight transport into, within and out of Skövde's urban centre. In order to study the problems in Skövde's urban centre from the perspective of different stakeholders, the empirical data collection consists of a combined research methodology. The data collection contains a direct observation and quantitative data considering the movement of freight transport in Skövde's urban centre. Furthermore, the study contains surveys and interviews with distributors and receivers in Skövde's urban centre. Each stakeholder has also been given the opportunity to rank which negative impacts of urban freight transport they considered to be more or less important in the creation of a sustainable city logistics in Skövde. The analysis is based on both proposals for improvement and the stakeholders' perspective on sustainable city logistics to find out how the flow of freight transport in Skövde's urban centre can be improved from a sustainability perspective in order to benefit several stakeholders. The result contains four recommended improvement proposals that are considered reasonable to implement in Skövde's urban centre within an estimated time horizon.

The goal of this thesis is to describe, model, and optimize reverse logistics systems commonly used in the Consumer Electronics industry. The context and motivation for this work stem from a collaboration with an industrial partner, a Fortune 500 company that sells consumer electronics and is one of the top retailers in its sector. The thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part of the thesis we model and analyze the problem of forecasting failures of new products. When a new device is introduced to the market there is limited information available about its failure time distribution since most devices have yet to fail. However, there is extensive failure time data for prior devices, as well as evidence that the failure time distribution for new devices can be forecast from the data for prior devices. In this setting, we propose two strategies for forecasting the failure distribution of new products that leverages the censored failure observations for the new devices as well as this massive amount of data collected for prior devices. We validate these strategies using data from our industrial partner and using data from a social enterprise located in the Boston area. The second part of the thesis concerns inventory management in a reverse logistics system that supports the warranty returns and replacement for a consumer electronic device. This system is a closed-loop supply chain since failed devices are refurbished and are kept in inventory to be used as replacement devices or are sold through a side-sales channel. Furthermore, managing inventory in this system is challenging due to the short life-cycle of this type of device and the rapidly declining value for the inventory that could potentially be sold. We propose a stochastic model that captures the dynamics of inventory of this system, including the limited life-cycle and the declining value of inventory that can be sold off. We characterize the structure of the optimal policy for this problem. In addition, we introduce two heuristics: (i) a certainty-equivalent approximation, which leads to a simple closed form policy; and (ii) a dual balancing heuristic, which results in a more tractable newsvendor type model. We also develop a robust version of this model in order to obtain bounds for the overall performance of the system. The performance of these heuristics is analyzed using data from our industrial partner. The final part of the thesis concerns the problem faced by a consumer electronics retailer when matching devices in inventory to customers. More specifically, we analyze a setting where there are two warranties in place: (i) the consumer warranty, offered by the retailer to the consumer, and (ii) the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) warranty, offered by the OEM to the retailer. Both warranties are valid for a limited period (usually 12 months), and once warranties expire, the coverage to replace or repair a faulty device ends. Thus, a customer does not receive a replacement if he/she is out of consumer warranty, and the retailer cannot send the device to the OEM for repairs if it is out of OEM warranty. The retailer would ideally like to have the two warranties for a device being matched, i.e., the customer would have the same time left in his consumer warranty as the device would have left in the OEM warranty. A mismatch between these warranties can incur costs to the retailer beyond the usual processing costs of warranty requests. Namely, since a device can fail multiple times during its lifecycle the replacement device sent to customers that file warranty requests can lead to out-of-OEM-warranty returns. In order to mitigate the number of out-of-OEM-warranty returns, we propose an online algorithm to match customers that have filed warranty claims to refurbished devices in inventory. The algorithm matches the oldest devices in inventory to the oldest customers in each period. We characterize the competitive ratio of this algorithm and, through numerical experiments using historical data, demonstrate that it can significantly reduce out of warranty returns compared to our partner's current strategy.

In times when capacities of roads are starting to run out, it is necessary to search for any alternatives with environmental protection in mind. One of the options is to move some of the road freight transport to railways. One of the possible ways to achieve it is by using Public logistics centres. This concept is already in use in Western Europe and the demand for building terminals of combined transport is growing in the Czech Republic as well. The goal of this thesis is to evaluate the potential of PLC and its influence on the regional development based on information from other countries. In the thesis, theoretical aspects of infrastructure investment and predicted effects of localization into targeted regions are assessed. Outcomes of this research are weaknesses and suggestions for potential implementation of this concept in the Czech Republic.

The purpose of the thesis is to investigate how a distribution center can implement Lean methods to minimize wastes and how the employees can be motivated before Lean implementation.  The following research questions have been constructed to fulfill the purpose:  • How can wastes be reduced with the help of Lean methods in a distribution center?  • How can employees be motivated to implement Lean?  The choice of method was a case study, conducted at a distribution center. The collected primary data consists of observations and interviews of both employees and customers. Secondary data have been collected from scientific articles and books, which made it possible to connect the theoretical framework with the empirical data.  At the case company there were four waste identified: waiting, unnecessary movement, unnecessary transport and unused knowledge. The studied process has looked the same for about 25 years which makes it outdated and ineffective. A majority of the respondents have difficulties seeing improvement possibilities for the process, but a few of them could see streamlining possibilities.  The conclusions that can be drawn from the study are how a few examples of Lean methods can reduce wastes that can occur in distribution centers and how the employees can be motivated before a change. By using 7+1 wastes, the wastes are first identified and then 5S, JIT and 5 why’s are implemented to minimize these. The employees are motivated before a change with the help of a committed and well-prepared management. The unfreezing phase in a change process is important to avoid resistance from the employees.  Keywords: Lean, logistics, distribution center, motivation.
Examensarbetets syfte är att undersöka hur en distributionscentral kan implementera verktyg inom Lean för att minska slöserier och hur de anställda kan motiveras inför implementering av Lean. Följande forskningsfrågor har framställts för att uppfylla syftet: •Hur kan slöserier minskas med hjälp av verktyg inom Lean i en distributionscentral? •Hur motiveras anställda till implementering av Lean? Metoden som använts är en fallstudie som har genomförts på en distributionscentral. Den insamlade primärdata är från observationer och semistrukturerade intervjuer från både anställda och kunder. Sekundärdata har hämtats från vetenskapliga artiklar och böcker som gjort det möjligt att sammankoppla den teoretiska referensramen med resultatet. På fallföretaget identifierades fyra slöserier som är väntan, onödig rörelse, onödiga transporter och outnyttjad kompetens. Processen som undersökts har sett likadan ut i ungefär 25 år vilket gör att den är utdaterad och ineffektiv. Majoriteten av respondenterna har svårt att se hur processen kan förändras till det bättre, men ett fåtal kan se hur effektivisering kan ske. Studiens slutsatser var hur några exempel på verktyg inom Lean kan minska slöserier som kan upptäckas på distributionscentraler, samt hur de anställda kan motiveras inför en förändring. Genom att använda sig av 7+1 slöserier identifieras först vilka av dem som förekommer och sedan implementeras 5S, JIT och 5 varför för att minska dessa. De anställda kan motiveras inför en förändring genom att ledningen är engagerad och väl förberedd. Upptiningsfasen i förändringsprocessen är viktig för att undvika motstånd från de anställda.

Uma das etapas críticas da distribuição física está no gerenciamento e administração dos produtos que são armazenados em Centros de Distribuição (CD), ou seja, nas operações de recebimento do pedido, recebimento de mercadorias, controle de qualidade, movimentação de materiais, armazenagem, separação e expedição. São críticas, também, as informações relacionadas aos produtos como quantidade, prazo e a rapidez no atendimento aos pedidos. O Warehouse Management System (WMS) é um sistema especialista que gerencia operações de CD, buscando atender as necessidades inerentes dessa atividade. Dessa forma, muitas empresas adotam estes sistemas objetivando o aprimoramento das operações logísticas e do gerenciamento do CD. Vem ocorrendo nas empresas uma série de implementações de WMS em diversos segmentos. O setor moveleiro possui muitas particularidades no tocante a logística de armazenagem das mercadorias, tais como: tamanhos, geometrias e pesos bem diferentes; alta rotatividade de modelos; alta segmentação de produtos no CD com mesmo código de venda. O objetivo principal desta pesquisa é apresentar uma proposta de etapas para implementação de WMS em CD. Foi conduzido um estudo em uma empresa varejista de grande porte do setor moveleiro que foi uma das pioneiras na implementação do WMS. A empresa adotou em seu CD um WMS para atuar em conjunto com o sistema gestor (Enterprise Resource Planning - ERP) da organização. Considerando a literatura um pouco escassa e dispersa nesta área específica do conhecimento em âmbito nacional, procurou-se prover aos praticantes um estudo que demonstre que, com uma correta implementação e uso do WMS, significativos ganhos podem ser obtidos. O resultado desta pesquisa é a proposição detalhada de uma série de etapas para a implantação de WMS, bem como uma descrição do sistema de informação e operação do CD antes e depois da implementação do WMS da empresa focal.
On of the critical phases of the physical distribution is the managemente and administration of products which are stored in warehouse, mainly in operations of order fulfillment. There are critical information related to products such as; quantity, time reliability and speed in the customer service. The Warehouse Management System (WMS) is a specialist system which manages the operations of warehouses, attempting to meet the inherent needs of these operations. This way, many companies adopt these systems aiming at the improvement of the logistics operations and the management of warehouses. There have been implementations of the WMS in several business segments. The furniture sector posses many particularities related to storage of goods, such as: geometries and different weights; high models turmaround; high segmentation of products in warehouse with the same sale code. The main objective of this research is present an implementation planning methodology of WMS in warehouses. It was driven a study of a large-scale retail company from the Braziliam furniture sector. The company adopted in their warehouse, a WMS to work together with the ERP of the organization. Considering the operational improvement potential, this study aims at providing the practitioners with a study which shows that, with a good implementation and correct use of the WMS, significant profits can be obtained. The result of this research is the definition of implementation phases of a WMS, as well like the hoist of the system of information and operation of the warehouse before and after the implementation of WMS in the organization.

Introduction: In today’s global world, supply chain and logistics operations have become far too complicated to be handled by individual firms. Nowadays, it is dealt by logistics and freight solution providing companies. The companies introduce an amount of flexibility for the firms doing their business. The performance of supply chain operations depends upon various dimensions such as location, quality, on-time delivery, dependability and cost. Reducing the operational costs by increasing effectiveness of process helps to gain a competitive advantage. Background: Logistics is a highly labour intensive industry. The primary role of a distribution centre as a supply chain element is to sort and forward the incoming goods(parcels) as effectively as possible within the minimum time. Due to the varied physical attributes of incoming goods/parcels, the sorting process in distribution centres involves different handling techniques. One such technique is the use of a parcel sorter conveyor system, there are various factors based on which the output increases or decreases in such systems. Flexibility is a factor that is seldom compromised, thus failing to operate effectively when volume increases, reduce a competitive advantage for the any distribution centre. Purpose: The purpose is to identify reasons for ineffectiveness during the process and find improvement opportunities which enables a distribution centre to handle more volume on a daily basis. Case: This single case study is carried out at a regional distribution centre aiming to grow regarding the number of suppliers and volume of handled parcels. Findings: The sources of ineffectiveness and improvement opportunities were identified (some of the improvement opportunities are case specific). Discussions: The study provides evidence that errors which are thought to be caused due to human actions can have other root causes, a synergetic approach is suitable in situations where high interdependency of variables exist.   Conclusions: The study has focused on a single case study, conducting the similar type of study with other companies working within a similar environment can provide more generalisable evidence. Improvement should be seen with a mentality of sustaining, with high variability of changes occurring, there should be a focus towards continuous improvement as well.

This thesis presents the modelling of an effective Fourth-Party Logistics (4PL) transaction centre which can evaluate trading partners and comprehensively integrate the improved competencies of trading partners for sustaining the post-merger effects. The proposed 4PL transaction centre is based on the best of breed concept to serve as a single point integrator. To create a best of breed 4PL set up, an exclusive performance measurement framework is proposed in a balanced approach by considering decision parameters from both the trading partners and the buying organisation perspectives. The novelty of the proposed 4PL performance measurement framework lies in its capability to integrate analytics with mathematical modelling resulting in a multi-stage framework which can be generalised to any industry. This thesis proposes the modelling of 4PL transaction centre through a computationally efficient Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach considering time dynamics as an influential factor instead of conventional static evaluation. The versatile features of dynamic DEA approach are realised through the variable lag effects (positive, neutral or negative) on subsequent chain partners to emulate actual scenario by eliminating bias in the evaluation process. Based on the derived outputs from the developed framework, this thesis enables to deal with a range of cross-segment mergers by extending the conventional Bogetoft and Wang’s production economics integration model which is otherwise limited to mergers of similarsegment only. This thesis proposes a novel two-tier cross-segment integration framework for the 4PL transaction centre prioritising performance orientation in the first tier and cost orientation in the second tier to quantify the merger gain. The integration framework developed in this thesis facilitates the coordinator of transaction centre to manage and control 4PL activities. In summary, this thesis demonstrates an objective approach to quantify the 4PL value addition in a unified approach (evaluation and integration) with improved consistency and adequacy. The advantageous and desirable features attained by modelling the 4PL transaction centre are addressed specifically from operational perspective instead of available financial measures. This thesis also presents extensions to the proposed transaction centre to deal with multi-criteria decisions objectively along with risk considerations. The expected value additions from the proposed 4PL transaction centre are substantiated through a case study utilising real data of suppliers and logistics service providers from a tiller and tractor manufacturing company.

O Brasil é um país de dimensões continentais e possuidor de um imenso potencial aquaviário, seja fluvial interior ou marítimo. Aliado a isso, seus maiores centros produtivos concentram-se numa estreita faixa litorânea, onde se localizam seus maiores centros consumidores. Apesar dessas características amplamente favoráveis ao transporte aquaviário, o País vem dirigindo o fluxo de seus produtos, basicamente, para o modal rodoviário em detrimento do aquaviário. O presente trabalho procurou, primeiramente, analisar as causas que determinaram o declínio do transporte costeiro de carga geral (cabotagem), ao longo dos anos. Posteriormente, foi desenvolvido um trabalho de pesquisa, no qual foram envolvidas empresas usuárias de transportes, onde se procurou levantar os problemas e as condicionantes que vêm impedindo ou restringindo o pleno emprego da navegação costeira de carga geral. A partir daí, procurou-se planejar uma estrutura logística que viesse atender aos anseios e às condicionantes dos usuários, tornando viável a utilização da cabotagem como modal competitivo do rodoviário. Foi analisado o que a cabotagem oferece hoje, em termos de transporte de carga geral, partindo-se, posteriormente, para uma situação otimizada. Uma vez atendidas as principais condicionantes e os entraves apontados pelos usuários para utilização da cabotagem, parte-se de uma perspectiva otimista com relação à transferência de carga do unimodal rodoviário para o bimodal rodo-aquaviário. Partindo desse novo contexto, foram determinados os reflexos positivos alcançados.

A indústria de Petróleo enfrenta uma nova realidade com foco na integração de pessoas, processos e tecnologias, que possibilita a tomada de decisão de forma mais rápida e consequente otimização da operação, emergindo assim o conceito de Operações Integradas. Neste âmbito, as principais empresas mundiais desta indústria possuem programas dedicados à integração operacional da sua cadeia. Os primeiros ambientes criados eram simplesmente derivados do conceito de salas de controle operacional, onde a equipe podia monitorar a operação e realizar comunicação com o pessoal localizado remotamente. Atualmente, as empresas reconhecem que, além do valor agregado dos ambientes de colaboração integrados, a integração operacional exige cuidado, avaliação, design e planejamento da implementação, para garantir que esses ambientes se tornem uma plataforma para melhorar a comunicação, subsidiar as melhores decisões, permitir alta qualidade das análises e efetivamente usar um pool de recursos especialistas para suportar diversas operações simultaneamente. Com base neste contexto, o objetivo desta dissertação é apresentar um modelo de gestão para implantação de um centro de provimento logístico offshore integrado. O modelo foi proposto com base em uma pesquisa-ação realizada em uma unidade de um importante player da indústria de petróleo. O trabalho ressalta os principais motivadores, abordagens, vantagens e desvantagens, indicadores de desempenho que podem ser constituídos, riscos e demais fatores críticos na adoção do modelo de gestão de um centro de provimento logístico offshore integrado. O modelo foi elaborado de forma a ser uma abordagem de gestão eficiente para a mitigação das principais causas de variação nos processos logístico da empresa analisada. A adoção de um modelo como o proposto representa uma ruptura em detrimento às práticas de gestão atuais na maioria das empresas, e, portanto, abordagens não convencionais de gestão de riscos e gestão da mudança são salientadas na dissertação. Por fim, questões inerentes ao delineamento do modelo conceitual para um modelo que se aproxime da realidade para a implantação são abordadas e analisadas.
The oil industry has been facing a new reality and its focus lies in people s integration, processes and technologies which enable decisions to be taken in a faster way, which optimizes the operation and originates, therefore, the Integrated Operation concept. Taking this scenario into account, the main worldwide companies related to this industry are ready to offer programs which are dedicated to the operational integration of this chain. The first environments stemmed from the concept of the operational control rooms, where the team could monitor the operation and perform communication remotely. Nowadays, companies recognize that, besides the integrated value of the integrated collaboration environments, the operation integration demands care, evaluation, design and implementation planning in order to guarantee that such environments can become a platform which will improve communication, subsidize the best decisions, allow high quality in the analysis and use a pool of expert resources in an efficient manner in order to support several operations simultaneously. Based on this context, the aim of this work is to present a management model for the implementation of a center to provide integrated offshore logistics. The model was proposed based on an action research carried out in an important player unit of the oil industry. The work highlights the main motivations, approaches, advantages and disadvantages, performance indicators which may be constituted, risks as well as other critical factors in the adoption of a management model for the implementation of a center to provide integrated offshore logistics. The model was created with the aim of becoming an efficient management approach for the mitigation of the main variation causes in the logistic processes taking the company analyzed as a reference. The adoption of a model as the one proposed represents a rupture as opposed to the current management practices in most companies, and, therefore, non-conventional approaches in the management of risks and changes are highlighted in this work. Finally, issues inherent to the formulation of the conceptual model for a model which is close to the reality for the implementation are discussed an analyzed.

This thesis analyzes the impact of processes associated with order execution on customer satisfaction. The theoretical part should introduce readers to current and relatively comprehensive e-commerce market. The objective is to formulate and highlight information and concepts, which are important for understanding the subsequent practical applications. The thesis is focused on logistics processes that affect customer satisfaction, e.g. receiving, assembling and shipping. The practical part should analyze the processes using the example of an online store Mall.cz. The main interest of the thesis emphasis on the functioning of the distribution center, identification of bottlenecks and the implementation of measures for the efficient order execution. In the final part the author analyzes three major competitors and their offers of the delivery of goods. The output of that part is a SWOT analysis. The main objective of the thesis is to identify the key factors of logistics processes and evaluate their impact on customer satisfaction. A specific feature and benefit of this work is the interconnection of marketing and logistics perspective.

Problem: Since there is not much inside information available, the problem that will be handled by this thesis is the coordination of warehousing activities within the logistics centers put to use by the Olympic Summer Games from 2000 to 2008. A special attention is given to certain requirements such as layout, capacity management, ownership and distribution applications. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is based on warehouse requirementsand their specific adjustment to the Olympic Summer Games, further emphasizing on distribution applications influencing the capacityand ownership. Theory: The theoretical section touches upon event logistics, the Olympic Games and more importantly, logistics centers as a generic termfor distribution facilities and warehouses. Further, types of warehouses, capacity management, ownership and distribution applications are examined in order to be able to compare the various Games. Method: The method for this research is based on a case study conducted by semi-structured interviews with several people involved in the logistics organization of the Games. All interviews are conducted over the telephone and analyzed accordingly. However, secondary data was of high importance due to the limited number of interview respondents. Conclusion: All analyzed features of a warehouse facility had to be more efficiently and effectively performed in order to serve the great approach for the Olympic Summer Games. The implementation of distribution applications was not sophisticated enough to benefit capacity savings. The leased ownership situation and outsourcing to third party logistics providers were advantageous, but did not further influence the planning and utilization phase of the Olympic Games.

Background: Retailing industry has been growing all around the world tremendously. We will see a remarkable change and improvement in clothing and baby products retailing industries in Sweden. Previously, companies either try to sell through traditional brick and mortar physical stores or online. But since the last decade, to become successful company in new global world, companies realize the fact that they need to combine the strategy of selling through different channels. In plain words the integration of these channels is referred as an omni-channel. Combining the different selling strategies and offering through different mode of channels raises the need for enhanced performance management throughout the supply chain. Within supply chain, warehouse is a crucial element and due to shift in strategies it is the most affected section. An efficient warehouse design is become essential in order to get performance and cost-effective benefits. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the impacts of having omni channel strategy on warehouse management. How it affects the overall working of warehousing, and influence their planning, need for improvement, integration and optimization. Further, challenges that a central warehouse faces in accordance to meet new demands and needs, raised due to omni channel strategy e.g. buy anything from anywhere at any time, could be explored along with their possible solutions. Method: An exploratory study is conducted, with qualitative case study methodology. Primary data with semi-structured interviews were considered to be main data collection method. Conclusion: The author has founded challenges that central warehouse faces during its operational activities. Challenges that are identified in central warehouse operational activities with reference to omni channel logistics strategy are human errors, additional work, large and mix pallets, barcoding, ERP and WMS low level integrated systems, unsuitable warehouse design, incompatible picking gears, ineffective automated packing machine and shipping. But these problems can be solved by having optimal integrated ERP system, RFID technology, new improved information technology, improved warehouse layout design and using advanced picking gears.

Due to the prevailing of globalization and liberalization, integrated area economic operation becomes the trend of all trading corporations. For an enterprise to be able to survive, effective application of global resources and customized manufacturing merchandises, as well as on-time delivery are the most important missions. To cope with the rapid change of production, marketing, and dispatching system, it is necessary for multi-nation enterprises set up their production line and dispatching system at an oversea base. Taiwanese industries currently confront a critical moment of reformation and upgrading. Taiwan government should strengthen her international competition advantage and construct an environment beneficial for the long-term development of Taiwanese industries. In the Year of 2000, the government initiated a plan to propel Taiwan to be a “Global Logistic Center” that would create a suitable supply-chain application environment for enterprises. Under the established environment, all the economic trading activities from all over the world can be rapidly , conveniently achieved in the Logistic Center, be it for product supplying, ordering, transporting, and selling. The project would also assist industries to develop their high value-added goods which are found in the upper value-chain so as to maximize their economic value, support them for their overall arrangement of global production, and encourage Taiwanese enterprises and Multinational corporations to be willing to take Taiwan as a major base for a Global Logistic Center. This thesis used the case study method and took two companies as the research target. Through interviewing key managers who are responsible for global logistics operations, this study tries to analyze the government’s preparation of setting up Taiwan as a Free Port so as to facilitate the island to be a global logistic center. Furthermore, the current environmental conditions and what role corporations in the logistics field should play are also discussed in the thesis. Finally, Taiwan’s present situations and advantages and those of near-by prospecting countries are compared. The conclusion shows that Taiwan is located at an advantageous geographic position and has access to a fully developed supply-chain of global high tech industries that make it suitable to be a Free Post and Global Logistic Center. The center could provide functions of research and development, storage, channel, logistics, service, finance, branding, marketing and capital dispatch. As for the Taiwanese logistics industry, it should hold on to the principal of “Free Trading” through modernization and internationalization in the future. They should also improve the operational performance and service quality of the whole Taiwanese logistics system to achieve the goal of “Globalized Logistics” and make the supply-demand dispatch exchanged smoothly among Taiwanese industries and their international partners. By accomplishing these objectives, Taiwan would further become the most important global logistics center in the world.
