Abstract:
During the last 30 years the environments faced by the business logistics manager have dramatically increased in complexity. The integration of logistics processes with organizational strategy, increasing complexities of partnership/channel relationships, and the increasingly international scope of business logistics processes are examples of these complexities. The military logistics literature addresses complex issues of integrating logistics with strategy and tactics; co‐ordinating world wide supply operations; co‐ordinating an industrial base with military needs; and managing cycles of mobilization, warfare, and demobilization. Summarizes the development of business logistics thought, reviews the military logistics literature, and develops insights from the said literature that appear relevant to business logistics thought.

Abstract:
Today's world is in a period where globalization activities and commercial applications are experienced rapidly. For this reason, logistics is an important business function to offer all kinds of products and services that all global consumers need, at the right time, at the right place, at the right cost, under the right conditions, to the right customer. In terms of businesses, logistics has strategic importance in providing inputs to the business, information flow in the processes of the business and ensuring the appropriate distribution of business outputs in target markets, and it is important both in the planning of operating costs and in terms of gaining value of the business. In addition, logistics enables the realization of the structure defined as the supply chain by providing product and information flow between businesses. In the last quarter of the century, where globalization is gaining momentum day by day, businesses are developing their logistics practices day by day and including them in company processes in order to ensure continuity in their activities and not to lose their customers, who are the most important part of their earnings. However, logistics has generally been tried to be defined as numerical applications made with a pure transportation process and sometimes with computer software. However, although logistics has a financial aspect that includes many numerical operations, there is also a managerial aspect that requires planning, organization and control at every step. By mentioning the emergence and development of logistics activities, which are critical for businesses, the logistics management practices of these activities in businesses, their benefits to businesses and the working areas of logistics management in businesses are examined.

AbstractThe safety of a logistics system is understood as ensuring (to a certain level) the implementation of operational logistics processes in any entity, under specific conditions, by using favourable circumstances, taking business challenges, reducing risk, uncertainty and preventing all kinds of threats to logistics activities. The relevant determinant of the management of logistics system safety is appropriate infrastructure which enables the implementation of logistic processes and guarantees their effectiveness and efficiency. The infrastructure determines logistics performance measured by the logistics performance index (LPI). The aim of the article is to identify the logistics system safety measures in a macro approach and to determine the impact of logistic efficiency on the management of logistics system safety.

Abstract:
Logistics supply chain system management is the integration of key business processes from end user through original logistics suppliers that provides products, services, and information that add value for customers and other stakeholders. Logistics supply chain is a network of suppliers, factories, warehouses, distribution centers and retailers where the raw materials are acquired, manufactured to products, which then are delivered to consumers. Fierce competition in global markets and the heightened expectations of consumers have forced business enterprises to invest in and focus attention on, the relationships with their customers and suppliers. Interest in supply chain management has also been growing in the industry both in developed and developing countries. Along with the occurrence of several catastrophic events in supply chains, risk management become more and more important. However, participants in the supply chain are separate and independent economic entities, and only consider their own benefits. The international logistics risk management problems are studied in this paper.

Abstract:
The article describes logistics survey in Estonia carried out in 2007 as a part of the LogOnBaltic project. The level of logistics in Estonian manufacturing, trading and logistics companies is explored through logistics costs, performance indicators, outsourcing, ICT use and logistics self‐estimation of the companies responded. Responses from 186 Estonian companies were gathered through a web‐based survey (38% of manufacturing, 38% of trading and 24% of logistics sector). Logistics costs as the percentage of turnover make in average 13.8% in manufacturing and 13.3% in trading. Transportation and inventory carrying cost form around 70% of overall logistics costs. Considering the logistics indicators surveyed, Estonian companies show up with relatively low perfect order fulfillment rates, short customer order fulfillment cycles and effective management of cash flows. The most widely outsourced logistics function is international transportation followed by domestic transportation, freight forwarding and reverse logistics. By 2010, the outsourcing of IT systems in logistics followed by inventory management, warehousing and product customization is expected to increase more substantially. The awareness of logistics importance is still low among Estonian companies. Only 27–44% of those agree that logistics has a considerable impact on profitability, competitive advantage, top management or customer service level.

Thesis (MComm)--Stellenbosch University, 2008.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The role of the traditional purchasing department has evolved significantly over the last decade into a competitive value adding procurement function within an organisation’s lean supply chain model. It has become a necessity to work with the suppliers to provide flexible, accurate, effective and cost effective goods and/or services (Barla, 2003; Ellram, 2002). In addition organisations are developing and utilising new business models geared towards improving both the balance sheet and the income statement to respond to external forces and new market opportunities. The change in business model places additional emphasis on leveraging increased innovation from suppliers, thus having a vast impact on supply management to such an extent that organisations are creating strategic relationships (Carter et al., 2007). In this paper, the supplier relationship management model will be studied under lean philosophy as to address the focal point – sustainable procurement. The paper will consist of three main areas: Supplier relationship management – Literature study Supplier relationship management – Case study Supplier relationship management – Operational tool Supplier relationship management – Literature study will address the theoretical methodologies, best practices, benefits and advantages, etc. Supplier relationship management – Case study will showcase a South African multi-national FMCG1 manufacturer’s methodology as well as the benefits of utilising a supplier relationship management approach to procurement. Supplier relationship management – Operational tool will be a practical tool developed for evaluating and facilitating supplier relationship management in an African context. The end result of the paper should be a feasible solution to prolonging the impact of procurement, thus increasing sustainability in the maturity stage of procurement’s life span in the typical product life cycle model (Canny Buyer, 2007). 1 Fast Moving Consumer Goods (“FMCG”) are products that have a quick turnover and relatively low cost (Wikipedia, 2007a).

Abstract:
Coordinating transactions among companies that allow the appropriate movement of goods, services, and information to consumers from suppliers effectively and efficiently still is hard to accomplish. There are many situations in which the logistic performance failed, frequently because of the difficul-ty of synchronising the business technological systems with the logistic processes, thereby yielding disastrous consequences. Thus causing the loss of time, money, and even certain companies could close and will be weeded out if they do not cope with application of e-logistics while performing their business. This article presents discussion of e-logistics and its application in e-commerce. The applica-tion of innovative solutions in logistics will yield posititve outcomes that will help improve the compa-ny’s overall performance. The consumer satisfaction by e-commerce will be taken in consideration, and in particular by e-logistic solutions. Such methods as literature review, synthesis and and compar-ison wil be employed.

Abstract:
Many organizations feel currently threatened by globalization. Grows uncertainty and market behaviour and there are some problems with effective use of resources; it came to the real competition. The current trend in the development of logistics says that wins only the fastest, cheapest and most efficient in terms of logistics productivity. Management structure of logistics processes is important for planning and management elements of the supply chain, because it is a systematic follow-up on the strategy of the company and its involvement in the supply chain; the masses are also linked to the competitiveness of enterprises. Equally important is the principle of modern management, knowledge and innovation. Under improving of the organization of logistics processes we can understand the necessity to improve the strategy, flexibility parameter setting while maintaining economic benefits and improvement of management, lifelong learning and innovation. Business environment requires new structural form as the supply chain to the path towards the ideal of perfect quality, reducing complexity, increasing speed and building strong competencies enabling swift reaction to changes in the environment. It also calls for a new style of management, based on the application of ethical principles and morals. On top of this effort is the customer, current and also potential. Worldwide leading industrial companies use in management logistical principles that offer a suitable alternative.

International trade (IT) is recognised as one of the driving forces for business and the growth of countries’ economic. The amount of IT flows is contributed by the “logistics revolution”. According to the conceptual approach, the development of transportation modes, logistics infrastructure may facilitate in-ternational trade. However, it remains unclear whether logistic performance changes contribute to IT flows since the number of researches that examine the effect of logistic performance on IT is limited. So, this paper aims to determine whether the flows of IT are contingent on logistics performance. The research re-lies on panel data of 28 European Union (EU) Member States (MS) over 2007–2016. The results of our investigation confirmed that the changes of logistics performance positively related to IT flow of EU MS, but this impact differs across countries.

Abstract:
Peculiarities of business logistics are related to sustainable transferring processes, which has always been a mundane task of trade processes. The lack of obstruction of the constant flow of this operation causes disruption to the whole economy and can lead not only to the loss of the foremost profits but also negatively influence the sustainable business logistics development. In pursuance of a strong logistical basis, any business entity should have a variety of practices for managing projects of this kind. Unfortunately, recent scientific explorations overlooked the importance of sustainable project management factors, especially during the Covid-19 situation, and rarely focused on how the implementation of these projects changed in the business logistics over the past few years. Based on a scientific litera-ture review, a set of factors influencing sustainable business logistics projects management both externally and inter-nally was identified. Study results showed that external factors influencing sustainability were related to environmental expenditure, local procurement, and the presence of the market as well as the internal connecting reduced resource exploitation, strategy and project life cycle towards rendering effective business logistics projects for the companies operating mainly on third-party logistics (3PL) and ground transport basis.

Abstract:
Clients of logistics organizations often demand not only one service, but a total logistics package. Therefore, globalization of economic, social and cultural processes pose new challenges for human resource management. The paper analyzes the impact of human resource competence features and its use as a tool for development of logistics organization and logistics service quality assurance. Competence measurement is complicated, it requires sophisticated studies, thus competence is often assessed on the grounds of simple, easily expressed, but often frustrated total image indicators, such as education and training. The conducted qualitative research enabled the identification of human resource social competence problematics in logistics organizations.

Resilient by Nature: Increasing Private Sector Uptake of Nature-based Solutions for Climate-resilient Infrastructure: A Market Assessment for Latin America and the Caribbean. Inter-American Development Bank, October 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0003711.

Full text
Abstract:
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity affecting our ability to deliver energy, transport, logistics, water, sanitation, and communications services. Investment for climate-resilient infrastructure is at the core of the IDB Groups agenda. In particular, nature-based Solutions (NbS) are a cost-effective way to build infrastructure resilient to climate change while delivering societal benefits. As many LAC governments and businesses are unaware of the opportunities and cost-efficiencies of NbS, setting out the business case for these solutions is an important first step to build support and secure funding. This Market Assessment examines how NbS can contribute to climate-resilient infrastructure through the protection, management, and restoration of natural capital. It examines existing barriers and the opportunities to increase private sector use of NbS focusing on the role of policy in NbS uptake; awareness, governance, and capacity; technical tools and skills to deliver NbS; and finance and funding. It provides recommendations for infrastructure project developers and operators, financial institutions, and policymakers to create a more enabling environment for NbS in LAC.
