Full textThe forest is a beneficial and renewable source of raw materials that ensures an economic dynamic. Thereby, the forest industry is characterized by a complex logistics network that is subject to a number of unique factors, such as: a growing need for customization of products, an unrecognized and uncertain demand for a few markets, and fierce global competition. This industry also encompasses a set of interconnected nodes for materials, information, and financial transactions. In this context, this thesis deals with the planning and control of the logistic activities of a forest value chain. It is a network that puts together the needful activities to move the raw materials and process them into finished products for customers. Our contribution through this project is to establish planning models that enable decision-makers to better coordinate their activities and improve their ways of exchanging information between each other in order to meet customer needs, build sustainable competitive advantage, and reduce costs In order to help the forest industry to achieve such objectives, we propose a methodology including three contributions. The first one suggests a centralized mathematical model then maximizes the total profit of a forest value chain by optimizing the quantities to be harvested and stored as well as the ones to be delivered. The second contribution is based on coordinated models that allow for more effective planning and control of forestry supply activities. The third contribution offers a conceptual implementation strategy and at the same time a technological platform which should be helpful to support the implementation of the coordination models developed.

Full textIn this thesis, we are interesting to analyse the value of leadtime information sharing in the distribution centres. We proposed a resolution framework and then we developed a first simulation model which leans on this proposed framework. This simulation model allowed us to realize a first numerical analysis on a depot structure. During this research, we studied also a warehouse with several retailers. For this problem, we formulated, at first, an inventory model with stochastic leadtime. By applying successively two inventory policies, we distinguished two basic models: a first model for information sharing situation and the second for no information sharing situation. We programmed and solved both models by LINGO. The results of these two theoretical studies show: - In every studied situation, leadtime information sharing has important benefits; - Important relations exist between the value of information sharing and some of other parameters, such as: the mode of cooperation, the context of market, the behaviour of clients, the unit cost of shortage, the structure of network and the characteristics of leadtime; - The behaviour of clients goes out as being the most important factor in terms of the sensibility and also on the effect of the other parameters on the value of leadtime information sharing; At the end, to validate the results of these theoretical studies, we modelled and studied the leadtime information sharing in a downstream pharmaceutical supply chain

Full textReplenishment is one of the major activities which also incurs substantial costs. Its objective is to ensure adequate product availability at the demand points (either warehouses or point-of-sales) so that the associated cost is minimized. In practice, different optimization problems are encountered depending on the industry. In this dissertation, we propose a framework for generalized solution development for such diverse problems. Our contribution in this regard are in three areas. First, we propose a classification scheme for the optimization problems to facilitate common solution development. We take inspirations from Graham’s notations for scheduling problems.Secondly, we list key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the performance of inventory management systems. We define a total of ten KPIs distributed under three categories: financial, operational and service and examine their usefulness. On the evaluation side, we examine the difficulties in comparing the performances of two inventory management systems and propose a simulation method to assess the relative performance. At last, we propose optimization methods for different replenishment problems. We first divide the optimization problems into two broad groups: long-term and short-term. The long-term group covers most strategic and some of the tactical decisions and the short-term group covers most operational decisions. We focus mainly on the short-term planning problems. These are again divided into two parts: single-item replenishment problems and multi-item (joint) replenishment problems. For the first class of problems, we propose a sample-based method for stationary demand and full backorder. The method is extendable to include additional problem parameters. We also propose a method based on dynamic programming for the general problem with non-stationary demand and the problem with supplier selection. For the second class of problems with multiple items, we focus on the replenishment planning problems during promotions in the presence of multi-item prepacks. We propose to address it in two phases. First, we propose a multi-objective approach that can be solved with CPLEX for small to medium size problem instances. For large problem instances, we reformulated the multi-objective problem into a single objective one. Then we propose a metaheuristic to obtain near optimal solutions in real time. One common thread of this dissertation has been to facilitate industrialization of the proposed solutions. Indeed, from the review of existing literature, we found that large gaps exist between academic consideration of inventory optimization problems and their use or maturity level in industries. We found that only 5% of the rigorous literature having some practical backing. This is primarily because of simplistic nature of the problem considered for research. This is justified since all the problem parameters cannot be considered in the mathematical model so that the model is solvable. On the contrary, one aspect that is ignored in practice is the practical viability of the solution and validation. Users increasingly want to scrutinize the results given by the machine. However, most systems lack a reasonable explanation or the evaluation of alternate solutions. Advancement in these areas will result in more adoption of academic research in the industries. To overcome these limitations , we meticulously examined the real-world problem instances and identified different problem parameters. We select the single-item stochastic replenishment problem for the first industrial implementation. The solution method was extended to include lost sales, multiple batch-sizes and service level constraint. Further industrialization is underway

Full textDespite their distributed nature, these supply chains can be very efficient in the ideal conditions of production and exchange. However, their complexity makes them more fragile. This dissertation proposes models and methods for risk analysis to enhance the robustness and resilience of SCs. We analyzed this area following an ontological approach using the KOD method. Based on state of the art in the field of risk in SCs, and on real cases, we identified the indicators of the most significant vulnerabilities. From the extracted knowledge and mathematical models proposed in the literature, we built the model of a multi-stage SC using ARIMA models incorporating the randomness of the demand. In order to adapt this model to situations of vulnerability and risk, we have added capacity and positivity constraints on orders and inventories. Under the impact of hazardous events or strong disturbances, some constraints of the system can be reached and therefore, its evolution may deviate considerably from the nominal dynamics or even become unstable. We proposed vulnerability indicators such as indicators of the frequency of delivery delays or costs due to the immobilization of products. Finally, scenarios were used to represent the occurrence of dangerous events. We then got simulation results in MATLAB, which allowed us to assess their consequences for different configurations of the system, especially for strong disturbances of information flows and physical flows

Full textOCP SA is Morocco’s largest company. It is widely considered as owning some 60% of phosphate world reserves and is engaged in a process of Supply Chain control. Initially specialized in phosphate ore extraction, OCP SA has expanded, few years ago, its activities to include production of phosphate fertilizers using chemical processing. Under our research project, we focus on economic management of OCP’s Hybrid Supply chain (HSC). A HSC comprises multiple interrelated discrete and continuous processes together forming an integrated process from the supplier down to the end customer. In such a system, the production rationale includes both batch and flow models. Each discrete or continuous process seeks to capture part of the value created by the organizational collaboration performed either in internal supply chains made up of business unit or in external ones made up of legally independent entities. At first, we focused on the representation of physical functioning. So a simulation model that allows us to reproduce this functioning has been done from the process mapping we have done. The modeling / Simulation technique mobilized in the modeling framework of this type of supply chain is the Discrete Event Simulation (DES) which allows reproducing the operational functioning of the HSCBy working on the command, this implies a specific management control with a definition of a dynamic repository that will depend on the simulation model. This repository can be used by the interactive decision support system of management control in order to improve decision-making. Therefore, we must measure the economic impact, evaluate the decision-making alternatives and analyze the gaps. To do this, it is necessary to rely on a management accounting based on a second modeling / simulation in order to propose a cost model. This second simulation relies on a finer representation of the processes in a perspective of periodic financial reporting and must allow better appreciate the cost drivers. In this context, we have chosen the Activity Based Costing (ABC) method. In addition, in process mapping, each production step involving a process change and contributing to its discretization represents a triggering event highlighting a cost driver. We have thus processed each process at the level of the "acid" BU and at the level of the "fertilizer" BU to determine the inductors used to allocate the expenses. Our ABC model is therefore used to measure the value creation for each BUs of the HSC and it is able to take into account all the outputs and inputs of each processing entity.Later, our aim is to explore the integration of the notion of cost in the simulation model. The limit of the discrete event simulation is manifested in the level of information provided on costs. To assess production costs, and the influence of the diversity of production scenario, variable costs must be included. This can be provided by the combination of the discrete event simulation with the ABC method. So we have proposed an approach that will be implemented in the context of the OCP HSC. This approach will take into account the coupling between ABC and SED with all the translation rules to can, from the existing management control system that is associated with a functional unit cost centers, go to the BUs oriented industrial processes. It will also enable us to structure the physical and financial flow performance indicators in the form of a scorecard

Full textSupply chains are ubiquitous across industries and a considerable effort has been invested in supply chain management techniques over the last decades. In Telecommunications service industries, it often involves repair operations and consequently takes place in a closed-loop supply chain. In this context, supply chain management is concerned with optimally planning movements of faulty parts and spare parts based on a demand forecast and in the face of conflicting objectifs (stock out, storage, repair, transfer). This thesis describes this optimisation problem and based on a case study. Specifically, we consider a tactical planning decision support system. This system depends on a generic modeling of the problem that can be applied on a wide range of supply chains. We present an exact method and a metaheuristic to solve this problem and evaluate our approaches against a variety of instances of different sizes. We also study the ability to emulate specific management policies (e.g., just-in-time replenishment, minimal repair) by weighting the objectives. Finally, we investigate how to apply successive plans generated by the system and study the capability to face forecast uncertainties

Full textRecently we notice a striking transition from an economy based on tangible assets to a knowledge economy based on intangible assets. This trend is illustrated through increased investment in R&D resulting in the filing of a large number of patents. However, only a minority of these has a financial value. These facts led us to wonder about the factors that lead to the renewal or abandonment of a patent. In our quest for answers to this first issue, we defined three strategic phases of patent life cycle: process abandonment, natural abandonment, and late abandonment. In addition, results of simple logistic regressions reveal two variables: the duration of delivery and the cumulative number of citing patents. The incorporation of intangible assets in the balance sheet is a real dilemma without an adequate treatment. Even though the valuation of intangibles remains at the heart of many studies and debates, theorists and researchers confirm that these assets significantly influence the market's perception of the financial value of holding companies (overvalued). Within this framework, this research attempts to answer this question as well: How does the financial market react to the dissemination of new information on patents held by a company? Our research allowed us to highlight the role of informational asymmetry in the valuation of patents. Thus, the market capitalization of the patent holder is positively correlated with available information. Finally, we notice that the magnitude of the cumulative abnormal return is a function of the industry

Full textThe purpose of supply chain management is to pilot a group of actors belonging to one or several chains, thereby achieving a global optimisation of the chain(s) and creating shared value. Systemic analysis has improved understanding of actors’ performance expectations, and with today’s broader outlook, chains tend to be viewed as encompassing a whole range of disparate elements. Determining the best supply chain management practices helps to create value for customers and shareholders. Using a statistical model, we have been able to show that the more companies commit to a supply chain excellence approach, the greater the value for their customers and shareholders. The companies that have established the best supply chain management practices are those that will benefit most from customer and shareholder goodwill. We then analysed the different supply chain management performance evaluation models and showed that existing variants are not all geared towards value creation analysis. This led us to compare 15 models differentiated by several categories. Having observed several weaknesses in these variants, we came up with our own supply chain management performance evaluation model (SCALE), one that is more oriented towards value creation within the chain and will enable companies to move as efficiently as possible to adopt an extended value creation construct. The model was implemented in a large retail company to demonstrate how its utilisation can impact the creation of new wealth for company and chain alike. The conclusions of this corporate study show that the SCALE model helps corporate decision-makers within a particular chain to improve the way in which they pilot their organisations by incorporating the characteristic parameters of each actor and the environment as a whole

Full textRegulatory tightening on environmental management and environmental responsibility increasingly forces industrialists to respect the environment in their deployment and development. At a time when we are talking about the shortening of the life span of consumer products and durable goods, these manufacturers now have the task of putting in place processes for the valorization of their end-of-life products and derivatives of their products productions. This has been the case in particular for computer and electronic equipment which seeks to design logistic networks that meet the management needs of the flows of their returns such as WEEE1. Indeed, they are subject to strong demands (mastery of destinations for valorisation of end-of-life products, reduction of processing costs, reduction of the impact of associated logistical activities on the environment, etc.). This work deals with the design of logistic networks of returns flows which are naturally subject to economic constraints but also to environmental ones. Some of factors of the problem such as: return status, fluctuations in the demand for valued products, etc. are taken into account in the search for the configuration of the logistics network that best meets the needs

Full textLn the present work, the sustainabillty concept has been redeflned so that common understanding can be guaranteed. Subsequently, a model intended to evaluate an existent supply chain's overall degree of sustainability has been developed and empirically tested through a case study. Considering the approach of continuous improvement, this evaluation should be followed by a redesign of the considered supply chain. However, a risk assessment needs to be done ex-ante. Forthis reason, a risk Identification and quantification model has been evolved. This model may consider bath, the risks leading to the redesign process and the risks resultlng from the redesign phase. A case study, which considers the risks leading to a redesign phase, has been implemented so that the model's feasibility in a real business' environment can be proved. The model's outcomes must not be mistaken for ultimate results but need to be considered being a decision support for managers
Santiteerakul, Salinee. "Supplier performance measurement system for sustainable supply chain Management : application to Thai electronics industry." Thesis, Lyon 2, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014LYO22005/document.
Full textThis thesis aims to clarify a sustainability implementation into supply chain and to develop a tool for measuring sustainability performance in supply chain and improving the sustainability performance for electronic industry in Thailand. This research has divided into three phases; the first phase is to clarify a sustainability measurement framework in supply chain. This framework allows decision makers identifying the sustainability measures based on their interesting area in sustainability criteria. There are eight categories of sustainability criteria in this framework which are financial, non-financial, raw material, natural resources, energy, human health and safety, human resources development, and ethical issues. The sustainability criteria in this framework have developed based on the concept of human needs and the triple bottom line concept. It have been justified by analyze with standard, guide line, and regulation involving sustainable development perspective. Moreover, this proposed framework enhances an engagement level of elements in supply chain as an important perspective to identifying the sustainability measures. After developing the conceptual framework for measuring sustainability performance, this thesis has proposed an approach to construct the performance measurement model. This work enhances the valuable of adopting the value chain model (Porter, 2008) and the process based approach (Chan and Qi, 2003) for constructing the sustainability measures model. This leads to an implementation of the proposed framework allowing decision makers to measures sustainability performance in any process or activity in the company and its supply chain. In order to implementing the proposed conceptual framework and the model construction method in practical situation, this thesis has selected the supplier performance evaluation problem for measuring sustainability performance. The second phase of this work is the development of the tool for measuring sustainability performance by focusing on supplier evaluation problem. The measurement tool is developed based on multi-criteria decision method. This model is not used for making a decision such as selecting the best supplier but it is a multicriteria decision aiding which help manager to establish supplier improvement program based on the results. The measurement tool is developed based on a fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP) approach. This thesis has proposed three FAHP methods by modified the extent analysis method (Method-I), modified the normalization approach (Method-II), and employed the weakest t-norm arithmetic (Method-III) for determining the fuzzy priority weight. These methods are easy to adopt in real-life problem in industry. The method-I is less complexity than method-II and method-III respectively but the method-I also obtains the larger fuzzy spread than method-II and method-III respectively. It is depends on the decision makers to select the proposed FAHP among these three methods for implementing in their situations. The results from supplier’s performance help manager for setting the direction to improve supplier’s sustainability by using the normalization rating from measurement model. The third phase of this thesis is an implementation of the proposed framework and proposed FAHP in the case study company in Thai electronics industry. The case study company aims to evaluate sustainability performance of their suppliers in order to manage and improve supplier’s performance. The sustainability performance measurement model consists of 10 indicators and 25 sustainability measures based on three dimensions (economic, environmental, and social). It is found that the importance weight of economic, environmental, and social dimension are 50.87%, 34.86%, and 15.14% respectively. It means that an economic performance is still the most important and the social performance is the less important of supplier’s evaluation

Full textThis research focuses on the field of collaboration between customer and supplier to improve their capability to innovate together. By considering collaboration as a process. It means that its performance could be managed and so improved, under the condition that it could be measurable. To address this issue, we have established a method and created a tool to evaluate the collaboration capability between a customer and its supplier in the context of an innovation project. By using this tool, the partners can obtain a better representation of their collaboration practices and a potential improvement plan adapted to the characteristics of the developed project and the quality of the relationship. The major results of this research include: 1) a qualification of the collaboration process through 18 collective practices, which are evaluated using maturity grids; 2) the proposal of a global indicator called “Potential Collaboration/Co-innovation Index (PCCI)”, which allows to classify the collaboration according to 4 categories: organized, supportive, aligned and fusional; 3) To generate the associated improvement plan. Furthermore, testing our tool on several case studies has enabled us to prove its robustness
Hedler, Francielly. "Global warehouse management : a methodology to determine an integrated performance measurement." Thesis, Université Grenoble Alpes (ComUE), 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015GREAI082/document.
Full textThe growing warehouse operation complexity has led companies to adopt a large number of indicators, making its management increasingly difficult. It may be hard for managers to evaluate the overall performance of the logistic systems, including the warehouse, because the assessment of the interdependence of indicators with distinct objectives is rather complex (e.g. the level of a cost indicator shall decrease, whereas a quality indicator level shall be maximized). This fact could lead to biases in the analysis executed by the manager in the evaluation of the global warehouse performance. In this context, this thesis develops a methodology to achieve an integrated warehouse performance measurement. It encompasses four main steps: (i) the development of an analytical model of performance indicators usually used for warehouse management; (ii) the definition of indicator relationships analytically and statistically; (iii) the aggregation of these indicators in an integrated model; (iv) the proposition of a scale to assess the evolution of the warehouse performance over time according to the integrated model results. The methodology is applied to a theoretical warehouse to demonstrate its application. The indicators used to evaluate the warehouse come from the literature and the database is generated to perform the mathematical tools. The Jacobian matrix is used to define indicator relationships analytically, and the principal component analysis to achieve indicator's aggregation statistically. The final aggregated model comprehends 33 indicators assigned in six different components, which compose the global performance indicator equation by means of component's weighted average. A scale is developed for the global performance indicator using an optimization approach to obtain its upper and lower boundaries. The usability of the integrated model is tested for two different warehouse performance situations and interesting insights about the final warehouse performance are discussed. Therefore, we conclude that the proposed methodology reaches its objective providing a decision support tool for managers so that they can be more efficient in the global warehouse performance management without neglecting important information from indicators

This theoretical framework influences the goals and the political tools of the sustainable freight transport policies. However, this orientation can explain the difficulties of the sustainable freight transport policies to reduce environmental externalities. Full textIn this dissertation, we aim at investigating three supply chain scheduling problems in the make-To-Order business model. The first problem is a production and interstage distribution scheduling problem in a supply chain with a manufacturer and a third-Party logistics (3PL) provider. The second problem is a production and outbound distribution scheduling problem with release dates and deadlines in a supply chain with a manufacturer, a 3PL provider and a customer. The third problem is a production and outbound distribution scheduling problem with setup times and delivery time windows in a supply chain with a manufacturer, a 3PL provider and several customers. For the three problems, we study their individual scheduling problems and coordinated scheduling problems: we propose polynomial-Time algorithms or prove the intractability of these problems, and develop exact algorithms or heuristics to solve the NP-Hard problems. We establish mechanisms of coordination and evaluate the benefits of coordination

Full textThe main objective of this thesis is to develop a multi-agent approach to designing a model to overcome risks of maintenance activities. The aim is to explore the maintenance complexity and to indicate the interactions between the maintenance function and the risk assessment.Firstly, we are interested in designing a systemic model to identify and model the industrial system, to show the different interactions between its elements, to analyze and to evaluate risks of maintenance activities. We propose the MOSAR method and the UML language to design a cognitive reference model. This model served as a starting point for designing a database using the SQL language, which is operated by Multi-Agent model to acquire the necessary information for its operation. On the other hand, we develop a framework of a multi-agent system that aims to anticipate failures scenarios and the decision-making by simulating the studied system behaviour. A comparison between the existing platforms dedicated to Multi-Agent Systems is performed to choose the appropriate platform for the simulation. Finally, the developed models are applied in the LPG supply chain (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). A simulator was developed using the AnyLogic platform in order to study the system behaviour and to simulate the failure scenarios chosen by the industry, for the calculation of the criticality from three parameters (Frequency, severity, detectability), and for obtaining a Dashboard containing a set of maintenance performance indicators. The proposed simulation models help to guide the industries toward good decisions to avoid risky situations that may trigger disruptive events damaging

Full textThe work presented in this thesis contributes to the field of the extended enterprise and the development of distributed information systems. This is obviously an important subject of study for the logistics community (supply chain), but also for the software engineering community. It is in this context that the objectives are to provide a model of global supply chain in an intermodal environment door to door service to solve the problems: (i) interfaces between the different actors involved along the chain and (ii) trans-loading operations generated by the goods transfer operations from one mode of transport to another. Thus, improved performance of the supply chain depends heavily on the level of cooperation and coordination, and especially sharing and validity of information and knowledge between the different actors in the chain (transport organizer, forwarding, Supplier, etc.). The application is located in the corridor of the Seine valley. The work is part of the project APLOG (Performance Improvement and global logistics) financed by the Haute Normandie region

The simultaneous optimization of the production, transport and holding activities become thus a key factor in the success of a company in a particular way, and of the whole supply chain in a general way. Indeed, the world competition led the majority of the industrial companies to recognize the need for taking into account all the activities of the supply chain in order to reduce their costs and to increase their reactivity vis-a-vis the perpetual trends in the market. In this context, we have considered, in a first time, the optimization of the physical flows along the supply chain in a mono-product context. Each two successive sites are connected by one transporter which has to deliver the products from the supplier to the client. The transporter is characterized by a loading capacity and several time parameters for the loading / unloading /transport of the products. The objective was to find the optimal sequence of the delivery lots sizes throughout the supply chain which allows, on the one hand to satisfy all system constraints including the final customer due dates, and on the other hand, to minimize the total cost induced by the various operations of production, storage and transportation. The first studied system was an elementary supply chain, called « supplylink », composed of one supplier, one customer and one transporter. The optimisation model proposed for the supply link has showed very interesting mathematical properties that have been used to develop an efficient branch and bound based algorithm that is very fast to find the optimal solution. These results have been used consequently to help solving the optimisation problem for a complete supply chain with several branch and bound based algorithms using different lower bounds for the partial solutions. However the proposed algorithms are relatively slow for middle to large size problems, and we proposed therefore a genetic algorithm that proved to be very efficient in terms of speed and quality of the obtained solution even for large size problems

Full textThis thesis focuses on the issue of MultiAgent Systems (MAS) evaluation. The MAS own characteristics, namely autonomy, distribution, dynamicity and sociality, have greatly contributed to the expansion of their application scope; but in return they made their analysis more difficult. Thus, evaluation methods in classic computer systems are insufficient to analyse MAS, since they do not take into account their specificities. The objective of this thesis is to provide a generic approach for the evaluation of MAS by measuring their functional characteristics. To this end, the need for information about the execution of the system to be evaluated is evident. In this context, a new approach to observe MAS is proposed. The results of these observations are exploited to build an abstraction model of the system which is studied in order to define performance metrics. The analysis focuses on two key characteristics, at the basis on the dynamics and sociality in MAS: communication and organization. The experiments of the proposed solution are performed on two multiagent applications. The first is an application of fault diagnosis in an industrial environment and the second is an application of control and production planning in supply chains

Full textThird-party logistics (3PL) seek performance by reorganizing regularly their warehouse operations. Few researchers study performance measurement systems (PMS) dedicated to 3PL. Researchers in warehousing design are used to study all the different operations one by one while these operations are linked together. As far as we know the literature does not propose any SMP for warehouse operations reorganization. SMP design leads to analyze the consequences for management control system, studied through Simons’ levers of control. An Intervention-research is conducted in a french 3PL : FM Logistic. Our contribution is the design of a performance measurement system in the form of problem graph which linking both knowledge advocated by a French 3PL and quoted in the literature. This SMP has been designed using a semantic and a syntax inspired by TRIZ problem graph. SMP design enables to analyze interactivity development. Results show the development of diagnostics systems towards interactivity
