Abstract:

This study considers the influences of room acoustics and driving noises in vehicle interiors on the subjectively perceived acoustical quality of conversations between passengers. A listening test with 25 participants was performed inside a laboratory to assess the impact of different vehicle interior transfer functions on the speech quality assessment in four predetermined dimensions. Idealized driving noises at three different vehicle speeds were presented simultaneously with speech samples to quantify the interferences of these noise conditions with varied signal-to-noise ratios. To minimize the influence of different human speakers, four talkers (two male and two female) were selected from commercially available audio books. The respective speech samples were adjusted in level and long-term average speech spectrum to the common values of conversational speech. The automatic reflex of raising one's voice in noisy environments, called “Lombard Effect” [1], was taken into account for an additional adjustment of speech levels while driving noises were present. A strong relationship between the speech-to-noise ratio and the test participants' evaluations was found. Thus, one can assume that the speech signals' attenuation or amplification caused by the different room acoustics of the tested vehicles play a more important role for a sufficient speech quality than the varied speech timbre or other parameters. Only at very high speech-to-noise ratios ( ≥ 20 dB with A-weighting), room-acoustical parameters such as IACC or the reverberation time are more determining for the speech quality appreciation than the speech's sound pressure level.

Abstract:

A síndrome da cauda equina é uma complicação caracterizada pela compressão das raízes nervosas lombares. Clinicamente, possui sintomas como dor lombar intensa, ciatalgias, anestesia em sela, disfunção esfincteriana e sexual e fraqueza de membros inferiores. O presente relato traz paciente MRB, 35 anos de idade, sexo masculino e professor, com quadro de dor lombar há 1 ano. Ao exame físico apresentou fácies álgica, à palpação abdominal, bexigoma doloroso. Ao neurológico Lasegue+ em membro inferior esquerdo, Kernig+ (MIE), anestesia em sela, hipoestesia em região posterior (MIE), anestesia plantar, hiporreflexia osteotendinosa patelar bilateral, diminuição de reflexo aquileu. À ressonância magnética destaca-se abaulamento discal difuso, retificando a face ventral do saco dural destacando componente extruso posteromediano/paramediano esquerdo em L5-S1, com pequeno desvio caudal e compressão da raiz nervosa emergente de S1 a esquerda e contato com a de S1 à direita e emergente de S2 à esquerda. Paciente submetido a cirurgia, com melhora clínica. Foi encaminhado à fisioterapia e acompanhamento ambulatorial. A etiologia mais prevalente da síndrome da cauda equina é devido hérnia discal. O atraso diagnóstico é o principal causador de sequelas, sendo o ideal uma intervenção cirúrgica em até 48 horas. O exame de imagem é o padrão ouro para o diagnóstico, e a história clínica favorece a seleção diagnóstica. Os fatores que mais influenciam o prognóstico é a gravidade do distúrbio esfincteriano e hipoestesia perianal, portanto, o mesmo é definido a partir da avaliação admissional. Este relato é coerente com o que a literatura traz acerca desta síndrome.

Abstract:

O presente relatório de estágio foi elaborado no intuito de adquirir o grau de mestre em Educação Pré-Escolar e Ensino do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico. É, assim, o resultado do estágio curricular desenvolvido em duas instituições públicas. Neste sentido, salienta-se as vivências estabelecidas no decurso da intervenção pedagógica com um grupo de crianças de 1.º ano de escolaridade da Escola Básica do 1º Ciclo do Ensino Básico com Pré-Escolar do Galeão, quer com um grupo de crianças do Pré-Escolar da Escola Básica do 1º Ciclo do Ensino Básico com Pré-Escolar da Lombada. Trata-se de um relatório reflexivo e crítico acerca da ação pedagógica, que reúne saberes e considerações constantes que visavam melhorar a prática do docente. Por essa razão, houve a necessidade, de no corpus teórico do relatório, destacar o professor, enquanto agente reflexivo e investigador associado à construção de identidade profissional. Salienta-se também que, ao longo do estágio pedagógico, a práxis foi determinada pela investigação-ação. A utilização desta metodologia visou delinear objetivos e estratégias, com a finalidade de promover melhorias nos contextos supramencionados. Para o efeito, adotou-se uma pedagogia centrada na aprendizagem cooperativa e na diferenciação pedagógica, no sentido de responder às seguintes questões-problema: “Como promover os afetos de forma a consolidar a aprendizagem” e “Como promover a aprendizagem cooperativa de forma a desenvolver as competências sociais das crianças da sala verde?”. Sendo as crianças o âmago destas interrogações, apresenta-se neste relatório informações relativas aos contextos educacionais e caraterísticas das mesmas. Em termos estruturais, o relatório comporta quatro capítulos. O primeiro diz respeito ao enquadramento teórico, o segundo é alusivo à opção metodológica e os outros dois são relativos à intervenção pedagógica in loco. Conclui-se o relatório, fazendo referência às considerações finais e à bibliografia consultada.

Abstract:

O presente relatório reflete uma série de experiências e vivências decorridas ao longo das três práticas pedagógicas que realizei, uma em contexto de Educação de Infância e duas em contexto do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico. As práticas pedagógicas estavam inseridas no âmbito do Mestrado em Educação Pré-escolar e Ensino do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico da Universidade da Madeira. A primeira parte do relatório de estágio é constituída por componentes teóricas, desde aspetos associados à organização curricular e ao papel do docente, salientando a importância da reflexão, até outros pressupostos teóricos fundamentais para a realização específica dos meus estágios, onde destaca-se a aprendizagem ativa assente numa perspetiva construtivista e cooperativa, a diferenciação pedagógica, algumas caraterísticas específicas da primeira infância e do desenvolvimento da escrita ao longo do 1.ºCEB. A Investigação-ação enquanto pressuposto metodológico também foi abordada nesta primeira parte. A segunda parte espelha o percurso desenvolvido nas práticas pedagógicas, envolvendo a descrição de atividades e estratégias utilizadas, algumas reflexões de caráter avaliativo acerca do que foi realizado, ente outros aspetos associados. Na prática pedagógica I e II está comtemplado o desenvolvimento de um projeto de investigação-ação que teve como principal objetivo melhorar os contextos onde me inseri, sobretudo ao nível das aprendizagens das crianças, em aspetos onde denotei algumas fraquezas através da observação participante. Assim, ambos os projetos foram fundamentais ao desenvolvimento de uma prática consciente e adequada. A prática pedagógica III teve como principal foco desenvolver as nossas capacidades enquanto professores ao nível especifico das didáticas.
The present report reflects a series of experiments and experiences occurred in the period of the three pedagogical practices that I’ve done, one of them was done in the context of childhood education and the other two in the first cycle of basic education. These practices were part of the Masters degree in Preschool Education and Teaching of the 1st cycle of Basic Education of the University of Madeira. The first part of this report is constituted by theoretical components, from aspects associated with curriculum organization and the teachers role, pointing out the importance of the thought, to fundamental theorical assumptions for the specific performance of my internships, where active learning based on a constructivist and cooperative perspective stands out, the pedagogical differentiation and some specific characteristics of early childhood and the development of writing throughout the 1st Cycle of Basic Education. Action-research is also mentioned on this first part as a methodological assumption. The second part reflects the course developed in pedagogical practices, involving the description of activities and strategies used, some reflections of evaluative character about what was done from other associated aspects. In pedagogical practice I and II the development of an action research project in each of the valences is contemplated. They had as main objective to improve the contexts where I inserted myself, especially in the level of the learning of the children in aspects where I indicated some weaknesses through the participant observation. Both projects were fundamental to the development of a conscious and adequate practice. The last stage was focused on developing our capacities as teachers at the specific level of didactics

O presente relatório surge no âmbito da Unidade Curricular de Relatório da Prática Pedagógica, do 2º ano do Mestrado em Educação Pré-Escolar e Ensino do 1º Ciclo do Ensino Básico da Universidade da Madeira e expõe a intervenção pedagógica realizada numa sala de Transição I no Infantário o Girassol e numa turma de 1º Ano na EB1/PE da Lombada, ambas situadas no conselho do Funchal. Tem como principal objetivo ilustrar a minha prática pedagógica, de forma reflexiva e fundamentada espelhando as competências adquiridas ao longo do meu percurso académico, onde são relatadas algumas atividades realizadas durante as duas práticas pedagógicas onde o principal objetivo foi responder a todas as necessidades das crianças promovendo variadas situações de aprendizagem e desenvolvimento. O trabalho realizado com a comunidade educativa, incluindo crianças, encarregados de educação e comunidade educativa é também relatado, demonstrando cooperação. O final do relatório contém uma reflexão em modo de conclusão onde é ilustrada de que modo a escrita deste relatório como a prática pedagógica influenciaram a minha identidade enquanto profissional no campo da educação.

Abstract:

It is all very well to contemplate what policies are likely to prove effective and just, as we did in Chapters 4 and 5, but that assumes we have some effective authority to put them into practice. So comparisons of (for example) emissions trading schemes against carbon taxes as ways of achieving greenhouse gas emissions reduction need some kind of body to craft the policy and implement it effectively. Sometimes that body will be a sovereign government, but sometimes the government is missing altogether or has only partial jurisdiction—for example, if a carbon trading scheme can extend across national boundaries. When government is missing we can however still speak of processes of governance— notably at the global level. “Governance” is a broader concept that allows for more fluid, informal, and transnational arrangements, though it can also include government as conventionally defined. Global inaction on greenhouse gas emission reduction and inadequate national policies are sometimes blamed simply on an absence of political will. But a big part of the story is that if we can’t get the structure and process of governance right, we are not going to get the policies right. So it remains remarkable that some high-profile proposals either ignore the governance question altogether, or treat it in simplistic terms. For an example of ignoring governance altogether (doubly remarkable in that the person doing it is a political scientist) consider the policy proposals ranked by a group of experts assembled by Bjørn Lomborg under the auspices of his Copenhagen Consensus Center (Lomborg, 2010). Using cost–benefit analysis plus expert judgment, the top three solutions were: 1. Marine cloud whitening research 2. Energy research and development 3. Stratospheric aerosol insertion research The first of these would require creating mists from sea water to create clouds that better reflect sunlight, the third injecting tiny particles into the atmosphere to simulate the cooling effects of volcanic eruptions. Though cast in terms of “research” the reason for this ranking is the anticipated net benefit of the anticipated policy (policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions came bottom).
