<p> The Lawn to Garden Program incentivizes replacing front yard turf grass with California Friendly gardens in Long Beach, CA. The Long Beach Water Department introduced the program in 2009 as a means of water conservation and since that time 2% of the City&rsquo;s single-family homes have successfully completed the program. As of the end of 2014, 3,461 applications had been submitted, but only 1,849 Lawn to Garden projects had been completed, a success rate of 53% and withdrawal rate of 47%. <p> This thesis presents a general tsunami hazard assessment for the City of Long Beach, California. Although relatively rare, tsunamis from a variety of potential sources threaten Long Beach. An anisotropic, least cost path Geographic Information Systems methodology was utilized to model approximate population exposure numbers within a number of evacuation scenarios. <p>Twelve electric borehole-image logs from oil wells located in the Long Beach oil field were used to conduct a fracture analysis of principal stress orientations associated with the Newport-Inglewood Fault Zone. The fractures analyzed are located in the Puente, Repetto, Pico, and San Pedro formations. Fractures were grouped based on fracture type, orientation, and formation. In-situ SHmax orientation was interpreted to range between 320? to 40?. Variations form the in-situ stress were observed across every formation and interpreted as paleo-stress.
