The study explores the effect of intergroup contact on the likelihood of spoiler group activity on a micro-regional level in post-conflict societies. It argues that higher levels of intergroup contact make areas more resilient to spoiler groups. This can be especially relevant during exogenous shocks and therefore contributes to the sustainability of peace processes. The resistance to spoiler activity is explained as a result of developing intergroup networks of solidarity, which reduce recruitment capabilities of organized violent groups. Reindeer can have strong effects on the plant species composition and functioning of tundra ecosystems, and often promote a transition towards a graminoid-dominated vegetation type. As a result, they influence many ecological processes, such as nutrient dynamics, soil biotic composition and functioning, and carbon storage. Several studies suggest that the effect of reindeer on vegetation may follow predictable patterns and could induce an alternative stable vegetation state. However, little empirical data on the long-term stability of reindeer effects on vegetation exist, as it is inherently c

Drinking alcohol at an early age is linked to a greater likelihood that a person will become an alcoholic later in life. Abstract:
Long-term depression is a long-lasting decrease in signalling between neurons in the central nervous system. It can be elicited via a number of mechanisms, including NMDA receptors and mGLuR receptors. NMDA-dependent LTD is caused by the endocytosis of AMPA receptors in response to stimuli, whereas mGLuR-dependent LTD acts via the action of kinases. Recent studies have demonstrated a novel form of LTD, which is dependent on serine protease action. Molecular changes in protein expression also accompany the generation of this new type of LTD, although the exact mechanism has not been determined.

Abstract:
Background: Type 1 Narcolepsy (NT1) is a central hypersomnia linked to the destruction of hypocretin-producing neurons. A great body of genetic and epidemiological data points to a likely autoimmune disease aetiology. Recent reports have characterized peripheral blood T-cell subsets in NT1, whereas data regarding the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) immune cell composition are lacking. In this study, we aim to identify the T- and NK- cell subsets in NT1 patients with long-term disease course. Methods: Immune cell subsets from CSF and peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) samples were analysed by

Ontogenetic treatment of rats with the dopamine D(2)-like receptor agonist quinpirole produces a significant increase in dopamine D(2) receptor sensitivity that persists throughout the animal's lifetime, a phenomenon known as D(2) priming. The present study was designed to investigate the effects of priming of the D(2) receptor on the expression of three different members of the regulator of G-protein signaling (RGS) family: Rgs4, Rgs9 and Rgs17. Male offspring were ontogenetically treated with quinpirole or saline from postnatal days (P)1-21 and raised to adulthood. On approximately P65, anim
