Abstract:
Accumulation of thermal energy in an underground reinforced concrete thermal energy tank with a volume of 24m3 of water, for 2 years. In these 2 years, 4 cycles are measured, namely 2 times charging and 2 times discharging. The measured data in these cycles indicate the charging and discharging time. By evaluating the data, we point out the losses of accumulated energy. Solar hot water collectors, which heat the medium in the thermal energy tank, serve as a source for recharging. The thermal energy tank has the potential to reduce the energy demand of buildings.

Long-term heat accumulation is one of the possibilities to reduce the energy consumption of buildings. It can also be categorized as renewable energy because of the accumulation should be generated from solar transformation through solar collectors. There are many ways to conserve energy and each of them has a lot of advantages and disadvantages. The article focuses primarily on dry, sprinkled underground storages called STES especially in terms of design.

Abstract The source of hot water production for the investigated storage tanks are solar collectors. Solar collectors provide recharging of underground storage tanks all year round. Due to the large active area of solar collectors - 225 m2, there are also large tanks for long-term accumulation. Accumulation tanks are in 3 sizes with a total volume of 160 m3. With regard to the size of the tanks, the mode is switched between the tanks according to the season. This method allows us to assess the potential contribution of future educational attainment to economic growth and income convergence among European regions over the next decades. Even before the financial crisis of 2007/8, there were questions about Europe’s long-term growth prospects. Since the mid-1990s, Euro area productivity growth had been falling behind that of the United States. Using data for the period 1970–2006, authors identified declining European rates of total factor productivity growth and weaker capital accumulation as areas for concern. Updating this earlier analysis, authors find that growth prospects for the euro area have deteriorated further; that Europe’s demographics are also contributing to a decline in the workforce. Abstract:
In 1997, the Mexican government designed the conditional cash transfer program Progresa, which became the worldwide model of a new approach to social programs, simultaneously targeting human capital accumulation and poverty reduction. A large literature has documented the short and medium-term impacts of the Mexican program and its successors in other countries. Using Progresas experimental evaluation design originally rolled out in 1997-2000, and a tracking survey conducted 20 years later, this paper studies the differential long-term impacts of exposure to Progresa. We focus on two cohorts o

Abstract:
Climate change adaptation efforts are heavily dependent on a countrys fiscal capacity and the associated costs of undertaking adaptation policies. The current accumulation of high debt levels in emerging and low-income developing countries, which are disproportionately affected by climate change, raises significant concerns. This study shows that sovereign risk, and hence funding costs for governments, exhibits significantly asymmetric reactions to its determinants across the conditional distribution of credit spreads. This aspect, previously overlooked in the literature, has relevant policy i

Abstract:
The elevated building at Scott-Amundsen South Pole Station was designed to mitigate the effects of windblown snow on it and the surrounding infrastructure. Because the elevation of the snow surface increases annually, the station is periodically lifted on its support columns to maintain its design height above the snow surface. To assist with planning these lifts, this effort developed a computational model to simulate snowdrift formation around the elevated building. The model uses computational fluid dynamics methods and synthetic wind record generation derived from statistical analysis of m

Prolonged application may result in P accumulation up to levels that impair plant nutrition, increase P loss, and promote eutrophication in downstream waters. This study aims to shed light on the RW- and BS-P forms in soils and to follow the processes that determine P reactivity, solu

The Programa Nacional de Becas Estudiantiles is a conditional cash transfer program designed to promote long-term human capital accumulation among Argentine youth and to reduce poverty. This study follows a 1999 cohort of students from 24 schools for five years. Propensity score matching methods are used with a comparison group of students who were excluded due to quotas to estimate the average and marginal impacts of the Becas program. Multilevel methods are also used to estimate the contributions of Becas program management and school characteristics in explaining variation between schools i

Two of the three national parks that comprise the National Park Service Inventory & Monitoring Program?s Central Alaska Network (CAKN) are covered by large quantities of glacier ice. Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve has 3,121 glaciers and Denali National Park and Preserve has 881. These glaciers cover significant portions of the parks and exert substantial influence over the surrounding landscapes with impacts on weather, vegetation, animal migration, river flow, aquatic life, and even downstream marine ecosystems. They also provide a significant attraction?and hazard?for visi

Maintenance of roadside ditches is important to avoid localized flooding and premature failure of pavements. Scheduling effective preventative maintenance requires mapping of the ditch profile to identify areas requiring excavation of long-term sediment accumulation. High-resolution, high-quality point clouds collected by mobile LiDAR mapping systems (MLMS) provide an opportunity for effective monitoring of roadside ditches and performing hydrological analyses. This study evaluated the applicability of mobile LiDAR for mapping roadside ditches for slope and drainage analyses. The performance o

Key Message Ontario long-term care (LTC) home residents have experienced disproportionately high morbidity and mortality, both from COVID-19 and from the conditions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. There are several measures that could be effective in preventing COVID-19 outbreaks, hospitalizations, and deaths in Ontario’s LTC homes, if implemented. First, temporary staffing could be minimized by improving staff working conditions. Second, homes could be further decrowded by a continued disallowance of three- and four-resident rooms and additional temporary housing for the most crowded h
