Angel Music is comprised of two contrasting movements for full orchestra and was written on the spirit of dance and celebration. Performance time is approximately thirteen minutes. The first movement is a conversational elaboration of three ideas: scalar, melodic/rhythmic, and harmonic. Formally, the composition suggests an A-B-C-B$\sp\prime$-A$\sp\prime$-Coda design. <p>This dissertation explores the meaning of art and religion in fin-de-siècle Vienna through the symphonies of the composer Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) and the philosophical and dramatic works of the poet Siegfried Lipiner (1856-1911). Abstract:

This thesis reconstructs the Prague premiere of the opera Tiefland by Eugen d'Albert and describes how this performance differed from earlier ones. The sources cited are original materials from the archives of the National Theatre including musical scores and references from the contemporary press. The thesis also provides an overview of opera premieres and the repertory of the Neues Deutsches Theater in the period 1888-1910 and details of d'Albert's visit to Prague before the time of the Tiefland premiere.
