Abstract:
There is an emerging but important literature on the effects of sport events such as soccer on stock market returns. After a soccer team's win, agents discount future events more favorably and increase risk tolerance. Similarly, after a loss, risk tolerance decreases. This paper directly assesses risk tolerance after a sports event by using daily data from the three major soccer teams in Turkey (Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray). Results provide evidence that risk tolerance increases after a win, but similar patterns were not found after a loss.

ABSTRACT The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is working in partnership with the State of Louisiana to focus on the oil pollution threat resulting from coastal land loss. With land loss, oil production and transportation infrastructure in coastal Louisiana is at increasing risk of damage from natural hazards and human activities. In response, a demonstration project was developed for contingency planning that assesses these concerns. The project identifies structures at risk, ranks them according to weighted considerations, and provides a trajectory analysis for released

This paper assesses pipe sizing aspects for previously proposed, novel, low heat distribution technology with three pipes. Assessment issues include heat loss, pressure loss, and pipe sizing for different typical pipe configurations. This assessment has been provided by the analysis of a case area with single-family houses. Concerning heat loss, the proposed three-pipe solutions have the same magnitude of heat loss as conventional twin pipes, since lower return temperatures compensate for the larger heat loss area from the third pipe. Regarding pressure loss, the main restriction on the size o

In the smart electricity consumption environment, the population of smart metering is helpful to collect the load data directly and promptly. A method of nontechnical loss detection, including offline parameter optimization and online detection, is proposed in this paper. With the updating of history data, the detection accuracy gets higher till the optimal point. AbstractThis paper assesses the amount of area and volume retreat, from the maximum expansion phase of the Little Ice Age to date, of glaciers at the head of Valpelline and Valtournenche (Valle d’Aosta, western Alps, Italy) using field survey, air-photo interpretation, analysis of historical records and a geographical information system. The calculated areal retreat value is 42.34%. For the upper Valpelline glaciers, the area declined from 20.13 km2 to 14.78 km2; whereas for the upper Valtournenche glaciers, a loss of 14.78 km2 to 5.8 km2 has been recorded. The estimated ice-volume loss was 0.

Preliminary evidence suggests that cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) improves executive functioning and weight loss in obesity. The CRT study aims at determining the efficacy of CRT versus no treatment control in patients with obesity before entering behavioural weight loss (BWL) treatment. The Niger Delta, being the most extensive freshwater wetland and aquatic ecosystem in West Africa, provides numerous services both to local people and to the West African economy. Ongoing environmental pressure exerted by large-scale oil extraction and illegal timber logging, however, are suspected to have had a substantial impact on the Delta’s ecosystems over the last decades. Knowledge on impact of these activities on the region’s wetlands now or in the past is scarce and patchy. In the paper, the problem of multi-label (ML) classification using the label-pairwise (LPW) scheme is addressed. For this approach, the method of correction of binary classifiers which constitute the LPW ensemble is proposed. The correction is based on a probabilistic (randomized) model of a classifier that assesses the local class-specific probabilities of correct classification and misclassification. These probabilities are determined using the original concepts of a randomized reference classifier (RRC) and a local soft confusion matrix. Additionally, two special cases that deal with imbala

Also, it assesses the role of discretionary fiscal policy in 2020 in explaining the cross-country variation in the economic fallout by explicitly controlling for the simultaneity of the policy measures and the size of the GDP shock.
