Weight loss surgery (WLS) is currently the treatment of choice for morbidly obese individuals in the UK (NICE, 2006). Abstract:
In this dissertation I address urban sustainability with a focus on loss of cultural heritage and ecological knowledge by expanding the concept “extinction of experience” (EoE). Conceptualized by conservationist Robert Michael Pyle, EoE is the loss of nature experiences leading to apathy towards biodiversity and degradation of the common habitat. I expand upon Pyle’s formulation of the concept by considering the EoE cycle as an indirect driver that amplifies biodiversity losses. Additionally, I introduce the analysis of interrelated losses of biological and cultural diversity in relation to Eo

The aim of this essay was to closer understand the experience of loss and sorrow in conjunction with serious physical illness. I have used a phenomenological approach and therefore used the questions: what have the individuals experienced? How have they experience it? And what meaning did they ascribe to the experience? To answer this questions I have examined five different biographies, based on the biographers’ experience of living with a serious physical illness. I have from these biographies deciphered different themes of loss and sorrow: The physical body, identity, loss of everyday life,

Enligt denna st

Since the recession has hit Greece, individuals have not only experienced financial loss but they have seen their whole life overhauled by the crisis. The purpose of this study is to explore how young Greeks who have recently graduated, or who are about to graduate, perceive their lives and futures at this time of severe economic crisis. More particularly, I tried to focus on their feelings (such as worries and hopes) about how the recession has impacted their lives and their feelings regarding their futures. Research has shown that during periods of recession, young individuals are affected t

Abstract:
Background: Obesity is associated with conditions that may affect Canadians’ health status and strain the health care system. Obese individuals are subjected to stigmatization. Most public health programs to date promote weight loss. However, weight loss is rarely sustainable. Insight must be gained into the embodied, lived experiences and lifestyles of ‘target’ populations and their perceptions of and priorities concerning health and wellbeing to develop public health programs that enhance lifestyles and health. Purpose: The purpose of my research was to use critical ethnographic research
