The type of fishing vessel that is widely used by fishermen in North Sulawesi, especially in the Bitung Coast, is a pelagic fishing vessel. When the ship sails at a certain speed, it will experience resistance in the form of resistance. This resistance will cause some speed drops. This will result in losses to the ship, including the time it takes when the ship performs maneuvers to catch schools of fish, extending the sailing time so that fuel consumption becomes greater and the use of working hours becomes longer, which means the cost of exploitation of the ship becomes greater. <em

Abstract Ship collisions are one of the marine accidents that can occur at any time, causing significant material and cargo losses. Lack of awareness of collision impacts and human factors are primary issues for ship collisions. Consequently, ship captains and technology have devised an imaginary area known as the ship domain. This ship domain is an imagined region used to define safe conditions around the ship. With the presence of a ship domain, collision risk can be reduced. Based on the study jointly made by Germanischer Lloyd and MAN Diesel & Turbo, this paper analyzes cost factors of LNG as fuel for container vessels and calculates cargo space losses resulting from LNG's low density. Calculation results show that cargo space losses are about 1.5%~2% of the total container volume. The results can be used as references for selecting LNG as ship fuel.

Thus, there is a need for minimizing added resistance due to both economical and safety reasons. Ships with better performance in waves even with reduced power are desired. Abstract:
In order to avoid the loss of human lives due to a collision of ships, it is very important to have a correct understanding on the phenomena of collision of ships and collapse of ships due to collision. A more reasonable model describing collision of ships and whole structure analysis is proposed in the present paper. Present model employs lumped masses with elasto-plastic spring system to represent striking ship considering hydrodynamic effect during collision process. When the responses of the whole structures of a striking ship and a struck one are estimated properly, more exact local struc

Abstract:
This technical note describes the physical and numerical considerations for developing an idealized numerical wave-structure interaction modeling study using the fully nonlinear, phase-resolving Boussinesq-type wave model, FUNWAVE-TVD (Shi et al. 2012). The focus of the study is on the range of validity of input wave characteristics and the appropriate numerical domain properties when inserting partially submerged, impermeable (i.e., fully reflective) coastal structures in the domain. These structures include typical designs for breakwaters, groins, jetties, dikes, and levees. In addition to p

The objective includes: Assess commercially available inspection methods to validate integrity of composite repair systems. Identify applicability to inspect composite overwrap and parent metal for both onshore and sub-sea pipelines (where information is available). Identify sources of data to include other users of composite materials(aerospace/aircraft, naval/ship repairs). Identify procedures and technologies to assess inspection effectiveness and provide a gap analysis. Abstract:
Black carbon – also referred to as soot – is a particulate matter that results from the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels and biomass. As a major air and climate pollutant, black carbon (BC) emissions have widespread adverse effects on human health and climate change. Globally, exposure to unhealthy levels of particulate matter, including BC, is estimated to cause between three and six million excess deaths every year. These health impacts – and the related economic losses – are felt disproportionately by those living in low- and middle-income countries. Furthermore, BC is a potent greenho
