The type of fishing vessel that is widely used by fishermen in North Sulawesi, especially in the Bitung Coast, is a pelagic fishing vessel. When the ship sails at a certain speed, it will experience resistance in the form of resistance. This resistance will cause some speed drops. This will result in losses to the ship, including the time it takes when the ship performs maneuvers to catch schools of fish, extending the sailing time so that fuel consumption becomes greater and the use of working hours becomes longer, which means the cost of exploitation of the ship becomes greater. <em

Throughout the South China Sea and the Malacca Strait, more than 60% of all maritime trade passes each year. The rapid growth in fleet size and ship size may lead to an increase in maritime accidents. Since many maritime accidents cause serious injuries, fatalities, damage of property and monetary losses, it is essential and crucial to discuss about marine safety. In this study, a statistical analysis was performed in order to assess the number of maritime accidents that occurred in Malaysia between 2018 and 2021, as well as the percentage of accidents that occurred in each accident category a

AbstractThis research aims to analyze the urgency of establishing a maritime court and its contribution to the maritime industry in Indonesia. The research method used is normative research with a statue approach, study case approach and conceptual approach. The results of this research show that the absence of a Maritime Court in Indonesia means that legal issues in the maritime sector cannot be resolved effectively because it takes a long time, so the presence of a Maritime Court in Indonesia will make a big contribution, especially legal certainty in the maritime sector, where all forms of

The unpreparedness of the cargo hold tank will result in losses for the company. To produce a truly clean loading space, it is necessary to carry out tank cleaning according to procedures, with adequate infrastructure, planning and good coordination between the parties concerned. The theoretical basis used in this paper describes the procedures for cleaning tanks on appropriate tankers, because delays will cause huge losses for the company. This research is qualitative in nature by conducting interviews and direct observations to see the process of Tank Cleaning activities on the ship so that

A new navigation method, called a Line of Sight Counteraction Navigation (LOSCAN) algorithm has been introduced to aid manoeuvre decision making for collision avoidance based on a two-ship encounter. The LOSCAN algorithm is derived from an extension of the basic principle of traditional missile proportional navigation, recognising that the objective of the latter is target capture rather than target avoidance. The basic concept is to derive an acceleration command so as to increase the misalignment between the ships' relative velocity and the line-of-sight. The algorithm includes a risk assess

This article establishes and examines the shipping losses of the British East India Company between the middle of the eighteenth century and 1813 when it lost its trade monopoly with India. This was the most important period in the history of the East India Company because it greatly expanded its trade with India and China and established what became a very large territorial empire on the subcontinent. It was also a time when Britain was often at war with France. This is the first publication to present full information on all of the East India Company’s shipping losses. They are set out in th

Ships sailing in the area of a bridge are vulnerable to the influence of complex water flow, due to the complex flow pattern around the bridge pier. Ships often crash into bridge piers, leading to serious economic losses and threating personal safety. Based on the common forms of piers of skew bridges, the hydrodynamic problems encountered during ship–bridge interactions in the area of a skew bridge were studied using particle image velocimetry-based flume testing, physical model testing, and numerical simulation. This method of flushing intensification brings tangible results, but currently has a number of unsolved problems. One of these problems is the question related to the determination of energy costs for the transportation of a two-phase mixture. The energy costs for transporting the flow depend on the magnitude of pressure losses due to friction and on the orientation of the pipeline sections in space. These consequences can be financial losses, delay in delivery time or a threat to safety of the people onboard. This is why it is necessary to learn about marine propulsion failures in order to prevent worst-case scenarios. This paper aims to provide a review of experimental, analytical and numerical methods used in the failure analysis of ship propulsion systems.
