Abstract:

Abstract:
LABURPENA: Une honetan, hirigintza-planak deuseztatzen dituzten epai ugari ikusten ari gara. Hirigintza-planak erregelamendu-arautzat hartzen direnez, haiek edozein arau-haustetan eroriz gero —dela funtsezkoa, dela plana prestatzeko prozedurari buruzkoa—, erabateko deuseztasuna lotuko zaie, ex tunc ondorioekin, baliozkotzeko aukerarik inolaz ere erabili ezin delarik. Administrazioarekiko auzietako auzitegiek zorroztasunez eta era monolitikoan ezartzen ari dira doktrina hori, ondorioak moderatu edo neurriratu gabe. Horren aurrean, berariazko lege-aurreikuspenik ez badago ere, honako aukera hauek aldezten dira: (I) haien ebazpenei aurrera begirako ondorio hutsak edo ex nunc ondorioak ematea; (II) deuseztasunaren ondorioak etetea, beste plan bat onartu artean; eta (III) konstituzio-kontrakotasunaren adierazpena eta planaren deuseztatzea bereiztea, hala egiten baitu, legezko estaldurarik gabe berak ere, Konstituzio Auzitegiak legeak epaitzen dituenean. ABSTRACT: At present we are witnessing the proliferation of annulment sentences of urban plans. Its consideration as regulatory standards associates any infringement that may be incurred by them —either substantive or related to its elaboration procedure— to the legally void with ex tunc effects without in any case being able to go to the figure of the validation. The contentious administrative tribunals are rigorously and monolithically applying this doctrine without moderating in consequences. In view of this, it is proposed that they may, even in the absence of a legal provision, expressly: (i) give effects that are purely prospective or ex nunc to their resolutions (ii) suspend the effects of nullity to allow time for approval of a new plan; and (iii) unlink the declaration of unconstitutionality and annulment of the plan, as it does, also without legal coverage, the Constitutional Court when judging the laws.

Abstract:
(IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, Chicago, Illinois). Rezultate.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Scop.

Abstract:
Abstract Pancreatic lymphangiomas, which occur predominantly in women, are rare and account for only 1% of all lymphangiomas. The characteristic histologic features include multiple cysts lined by endothelial cells, irregularly distributed smooth muscle cells, and lymphoid aggregates in the wall of the cyst. We describe a 36-year-old woman with lymphangioma of the pancreas with “ovarian-like” mesenchymal stroma in the wall. This stroma, composed of uncommitted mesenchymal cells, has not been described previously in the wall of pancreatic lymphangiomas. Multiple small lymphatic channels that are found in this stroma recapitulate the development of lymphatic channels in the embryo. Lymphangioma of the pancreas may arise from distension of these lymphatic channels. Pancreatic lymphangioma may, therefore, be a developmental anomaly rather than a true neoplasm.

Abstract:
Abstract LOTUS domains are helix-turn-helix protein folds identified in essential germline proteins and are conserved in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Despite originally predicted as an RNA binding domain, its molecular binding activity towards RNA and protein is controversial. In particular, the most conserved binding property for the LOTUS domain family remains unknown. Here, we uncovered an unexpected specific interaction of LOTUS domains with G-rich RNA sequences. Intriguingly, LOTUS domains exhibit high affinity to RNA G-quadruplex tertiary structures implicated in diverse cellular processes including piRNA biogenesis. This novel LOTUS domain-RNA interaction is conserved in bacteria, plants and animals, comprising the most ancient binding feature of the LOTUS domain family. By contrast, LOTUS domains do not preferentially interact with DNA G-quadruplexes. We further show that a subset of LOTUS domains display both RNA and protein binding activities. These findings identify the LOTUS domain as a specialized RNA binding domain across phyla and underscore the molecular mechanism underlying the function of LOTUS domain-containing proteins in RNA metabolism and regulation.

Abstract:
A study was undertaken in the Perennial Pasture Zone in New South Wales, Australia, to investigate the potential of lotus-based pastures (greater lotus, Lotus uliginosus Schukr.; birdsfoot trefoil, Lotus corniculatus L.) to improve grazing production. The study was based on a methodology that combined a grazing experiment to determine the effects of grazing management on lotus persistence, with a co-learning phase to assess the adaptation and applications of lotus across the high rainfall zone. The present paper reports on the grazing experiment that was replicated in 4 regions (North Coast, South Coast, Northern Tablelands, Southern Tablelands) and that included combinations of grazing strategy (summer rest, autumn rest, 14-day spell or 28-day spell), grazing intensity (low or high herbage mass), Lotus species and cultivar (L. uliginosus cvv. Grasslands Maku, Sharnae; L. corniculatus cv. Grasslands Goldie or ‘Spanish’ breeding line) and companion grass (sown or volunteer) treatments. The experiment provided results for the establishment and botanical presence of both Lotus species, and the expression of their persistence mechanisms in these 4 environments. Greater lotus cv. Grasslands Maku established best under coastal conditions and birdsfoot trefoil cv. Grasslands Goldie established best under tablelands conditions. The degree of nodulation of greater lotus cv. Sharnae and birdsfoot trefoil cv. Grasslands Goldie was less than nodulation of greater lotus cv. Grasslands Maku, but nodulation had no apparent effect on seedling vigour. The population density of all Lotus cultivars declined substantially at the North Coast, South Coast and Southern Tablelands sites during severe drought conditions. However, both birdsfoot trefoil cv. Grasslands Goldie and greater lotus cv. Grasslands Maku remained relatively stable at the Northern Tablelands site with greater lotus cv. Grasslands Maku maintaining 20–40% presence and birdsfoot trefoil cv. Grasslands Goldie retaining 30–50% presence, depending on time of year. In general, there was little effect of grazing management practice on arresting the decline in lotus presence due to drought, or on enhancing the regeneration processes associated with lotus persistence.

Abstract:
The WRKY family is one of the largest transcription factor (TF) families in plants and plays central roles in modulating plant stress responses and developmental processes, as well as secondary metabolic regulations. Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) is an aquatic crop that has significant food, ornamental and pharmacological values. Here, we performed an overview analysis of WRKY TF family members in lotus, and studied their functions in environmental adaptation and regulation of lotus benzylisoquinoline alkaloid (BIA) biosynthesis. A total of 65 WRKY genes were identified in the lotus genome and they were well clustered in a similar pattern with their Arabidopsis homologs in seven groups (designated I, IIa-IIe, and III), although no lotus WRKY was clustered in the group IIIa. Most lotus WRKYs were functionally paired, which was attributed to the recently occurred whole genome duplication in lotus. In addition, lotus WRKYs were regulated dramatically by salicilic acid (SA), jasmonic acid (JA), and submergence treatments, and two lotus WRKYs, NnWRKY40a and NnWRKY40b, were significantly induced by JA and promoted lotus BIA biosynthesis through activating BIA biosynthetic genes. The investigation of WRKY TFs for this basal eudicot reveals new insights into the evolution of the WRKY family, and provides fundamental information for their functional studies and lotus breeding.

Abstract:
Lotus (120–130 species) is the largest genus of the tribe Loteae. The taxonomy of Lotus is complicated, and a comprehensive taxonomic revision of the genus is needed. We have conducted phylogenetic analyses of Lotus based on nrITS data alone and combined with data on 46 morphological characters. Eighty-one ingroup nrITS accessions representing 71 Lotus species are studied; among them 47 accessions representing 40 species are new. Representatives of all other genera of the tribe Loteae are included in the outgroup (for three genera, nrITS sequences are published for the first time). Forty-two of 71 ingroup species were not included in previous morphological phylogenetic studies. The most important conclusions of the present study are (1) addition of morphological data to the nrITS matrix produces a better resolved phylogeny of Lotus; (2) previous findings that Dorycnium and Tetragonolobus cannot be separated from Lotus at the generic level are well supported; (3) Lotus creticus should be placed in section Pedrosia rather than in section Lotea; (4) a broad treatment of section Ononidium is unnatural and the section should possibly not be recognized at all; (5) section Heinekenia is paraphyletic; (6) section Lotus should include Lotus conimbricensis; then the section is monophyletic; (7) a basic chromosome number of x = 6 is an important synapomorphy for the expanded section Lotus; (8) the segregation of Lotus schimperi and allies into section Chamaelotus is well supported; (9) there is an apparent functional correlation between stylodium and keel evolution in Lotus.

Abstract:
Kata Kunci: Lotto, Makassar, dan PajakThis study aims to determine the background of Lotto legalization in Makassar, the dynamics of the implementation of Lotto in Makassar, and the impact of Lotto legalization on the lives of Makassar people. This research is a descriptive-analysis study using historical research methods through the heurisic, criticism, interpretation and historiography stages. The results of the study presented in this paper show that the basic pattern of regional development in the Municipality of Makassar which contains poverty, ignorance and poverty (3K) in accordance with PELITA is hampered due to lack of funds. The Mayor of Makassar Municipality at the time, H.M. Dg. Patompo sought a way out by collecting unconventional development funds in the form of a gambling tax by selecting Lottery Totalisator (Lotto), which at that time was rife in other cities. From the results of this study it can be concluded that the implementation of Lotto in Makassar on the one hand is able to help increase local original income, but on the other hand this Lotto is also a virus that makes speculative thinking develop among the community by getting profits from Lotto results without having to work hard and also eliminating siri’ culture adhered to by the Bugis Makassar community. Keywords: Lotto, Makassar and Tax

Abstract:
An efficient technology for preparing lotus fibres under microwave irradiation was developed. The lotus fibres were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetry. Lotus fibres prepared are a kind of hollow fibres which are composed of a superfine fibre and an external shell. The effect of the treatment time with hydrogen peroxide under microwave irradiation on components, whiteness, moisture regain, removal rate of impurities, fineness, tensile strength and breaking elongation of lotus fibres was investigated. The results show that the cellulose content in lotus fibres increases with increase in treatment time. Whiteness and moisture regain of lotus fibres increase with increase in treatment time with hydrogen peroxide. The removal rate of impurities and the fineness of lotus fibres are improved after they are treated with hydrogen peroxide. Microwave irradiation is supposed to be an efficient method for producing lotus fibres.

The mechanical and physical properties of lotus kernel play an important role in deep processing of lotus seeds. This paper established an empirical distribution function of random variables of the shape parameters of lotus kernels. The relationship between the moisture content and the hardness was analysed, and the compression strength of the different surfaces of the same lotus kernels were compared. The results indicate that, with the same moisture content, there is a centralized distribution section for lotus kernel shape. The density of a lotus kernel is higher than that of water. The higher the moisture content, the lower hardness. And the lower moisture content, the higher hardness. Compressed from different directions, the compression strengths of the lotus kernels are different.

Abstract:
Lotus root, which is a water plant cherished by people in the Asian continent and some other parts of the world, is manually inspected for quality by experts to detect impurities. There is the need to update this inspection process in order to improve the quality and safety of lotus root. Machine vision systems and techniques are used for consistent, efficient, effective, and reliable inspection of images. The lotus root inspection system has been proposed to inspect the lotus roots for impurities. The detection algorithms use the size, shape, texture and color of the lotus root images as parameters to analyze the quality of lotus roots. The lotus root undergoes some processes before image acquisition and image processing. The camera and illumination used, in collaboration with the edge detection, and image segmentation techniques, efficiently and effectively exposed the impurities in the lotus root at a much faster rate. Also, it is less expensive compared to the traditional human inspections.

Abstract:
Hydraulic scouring is the most effective approach to harvest lotus roots, but its application is largely restricted by the low harvesting rate. After hydraulic scouring, some mature lotus roots are still partially buried in the soil. Therefore, it is highly necessary to develop an appropriate approach to harvest semi-buried lotus roots. In this work, we for the first time studied the interaction between semi-buried lotus roots and soil, as well as analyzing the pull-out process and the factors affecting the pull-out force of semi-buried lotus roots. Firstly, a simple testing platform was designed based on the virtual prototype technology and the tests on pull-out force were conducted on five lotus roots with similar shape but different weights, with the burial depth and pull-out speed as the experimental factors. The results revealed that the maximum pull-out force is not significantly affected by the pull-out speed, whereas it is significantly influenced by the burial depth and the surface area of lotus roots. The maximum pull-out force increased with increasing lotus root surface area and burial depth. In addition, the discrete element method was employed to simulate the pull-out process of lotus root at different pull-out speeds. The simulation results indicated that a higher pull-out speed would result in a greater pull-out force at the same displacement of the lotus root from the soil. Both experimental and simulation results revealed that soil adhesion contributes the most to the pull-out resistance. It was also observed that a slight loosening of semi-buried lotus roots could drastically reduce the pull-out force. These results suggest that some kind of mechanical structure or improvement of water flow can be applied to the existing lotus root harvester to reduce the adhesion between lotus roots and soil. Overall, our findings provide a novel direction for optimizing hydraulic harvesting machines of lotus roots.

Abstract:
The lotus (Nelumbo Adans.) is a perennial aquatic plant with important value in horticulture, medicine, food, religion, and culture. It is rich in germplasm and more than 2000 cultivars have been cultivated through hybridization and natural selection. Microsporogenesis and male gametogenesis in the anther are important for hybridization in flowering plants. However, little is known about the cytological events, especially related to the stamen, during the reproduction of the lotus. To better understand the mechanism controlling the male reproductive development of the lotus, we investigated the flower structure of the Asian lotus (N. nucifera). The cytological analysis of anther morphogenesis showed both the common and specialized cytological events as well as the formation of mature pollen grains via meiosis and mitosis during lotus anther development. Intriguingly, an anatomical difference in anther appendage structures was observed between the Asian lotus and the American lotus (N. lutea). To facilitate future study on lotus male reproduction, we categorized pollen development into 11 stages according to the characterized cytological events. This discovery expands our knowledge on the pollen and appendage development of the lotus as well as improving the understanding of the species differentiation of N. nucifera and N. lutea.

Lotus-type porous metal with many straight pores is attractive as a heat sink because larger heat transfer capacity is obtained due to the small diameter of the pores. The heat transfer capacity of the lotus-type porous copper heat sink was calculated using the model with the pores of uniform diameters. However, actual lotus-type porous metals have a distribution of pore diameter. In the present work, we investigated the lotus-type porous copper fin model by considering size distribution of the lotus-type porous copper fin. Prediction of the heat transfer characteristics for the lotus-type porous copper heat sink shows a good agreement with the experimental data.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Owing to the high degree of diversity of metabolite pools and complexity of spatial and temporal distributions within biological tissues, currently available methods for metabolite characterization face large challenges. In this study, the temporal and spatial distributions of the alkaloid components of the medicinal plant lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) were investigated over various growth phases. The results showed that alkaloid biosynthesis in lotus leaf is regulated by development and that there is maximum accumulation of alkaloids when the lotus leaf was completely expanded. Furthermore, alkaloid content tended to be stable in mature lotus leaves. However, there was significant variation in the alkaloid content of lotus leaves with different genotypes, suggesting that genetic background is an important factor that affects the temporal and spatial distributions of alkaloids in sacred lotus leaves. The dynamic contents of alkaloids during the growth and development of lotus leaves provide insight into basic biological differences when sampling.

Abstract:
Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) rhizome possessed abundant nutrients such as vitamin C, minerals and antioxidants. The consumption of lotus rhizome is limited in Malaysia due to limited information on its nutritional values. Cooking or heat treatment may cause nutritional changes in the food, however, there is a lack of study on the effect of cooking methods on nutritional contents of lotus rhizome. In this study, the effects of cooking methods (steaming, boiling and deep-frying) on nutritional composition (proximate, vitamin C and minerals) and antioxidant properties (total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, DPPH and ABTS scavenging activity) of lotus rhizome were investigated. Results showed that boiling significantly increased moisture and crude fibre but decreased ash, crude fat and crude protein contents of lotus rhizome. Meanwhile, deep frying significantly reduced moisture and increased ash, crude fat, crude protein, crude fibre and carbohydrate contents of lotus rhizome. Steaming induced no significant changes in moisture, crude protein, crude fat, crude fibre, carbohydrate, vitamin C and mineral (potassium, zinc and copper) contents when compared to the raw lotus rhizome. Boiling significantly reduced the amount of vitamin C while deep frying caused a significant reduction in total phenolic content, total flavonoid content and antioxidant activity for both ABTS and DPPH assays of lotus rhizome. In conclusion, steaming would be the best cooking methods for lotus rhizome while deep frying is not recommended to retain the nutritional composition and antioxidant properties of lotus rhizome.

Lotus fiber is served as a novel kind of slender, soft and fragrant natural cellulose fiber which own perfect moisture absorption, good ventilation and culture meaning. However, current extraction approaches of lotus fiber usually exhibit low efficiency and high cost which limit its development and utilization. In this paper, based on the biological structure of lotus petiole, the steam explosion method is carried on for lotus fiber extraction from the separated vascular bundles. The morphologies of the samples exploded in different conditions of prepreg conditions, explosion pressure and residence times were sequentially characterized by SEM. The results show that the resulting lotus fiber is separated efficient while, under 5% sodium hydroxide prepreg conditions, the pressure is 1.5 MPa and residence time at 160 s. Therefore, this kind of steam explosion treatment can be proposed as the reasonable method for lotus fiber extraction. Abstract:
A 5-year project was undertaken in New South Wales, Australia, to develop and implement lotus pasture technology (Greater lotus, Lotus uliginosus; birdsfoot trefoil, Lotus corniculatus). The project was modelled on a core experiment/co-learning paradigm. A core experiment investigated issues of species adaptation and grazing management, and a co-learning phase aimed at promoting simultaneous improvement and adoption of lotus technology. Most participants felt that involvement with co-learning gave them increased technical knowledge of lotus. Increased knowledge facilitated changes that included farming practice changes (such as establishing lotus pastures or modifications to grazing management), or changing the approach to learning and problem solving towards a co-learning mode. The strengths of the co-learning model were that it was flexible, farmers and industry sponsors worked together, and it increased the effectiveness of the project. The weaknesses were that those groups with informal structures found it difficult to function as a team, and the time limits imposed by the project limited the learning experience.

The diagnostic characters of the genus Lotus L. are a claw with a thickened infolded margin, diadelphous stamens, and a style hardened from the base. This genus contains about 100 species that are distributed throughout the world. To investigate the phylogeny of the Old World species of Lotus, subgenus Edentolotus, sections Krokeria, Xantholotus, and Erythrolotus, a cladistic analysis was performed using 31 morphological characters. To test the phylogenetic relationships among species of Lotus-Edentolotus and Dorycnium, Pedrosia, and Tetragonolobus, these taxa were included as part of the ingroup. The polarity of the characters was based on the outgroup comparison method, using Anthyllis as one outgroup and Tripodion as another. The analysis with Anthyllis as outgroup yielded eight equally parsimonious trees (with all characters equally weighted), each with 62 steps, a consistency index of 0.53, and a retention index of 0.75. All trees (including the strict consensus tree from the eight initial trees) showed that genus Lotus, subgenus Edentolotus, and sections Xantholotus and Erythrolotus are polyphyletic, with only section Krokeria appearing as monophyletic. On the other hand, the groups of species Lotus angustissimus, Lotus corniculatus, Lotus creticus, and Lotus peregrinus are monophyletic. Identical results were derived from the data matrix using Tripodion as the outgroup. Results are compared with previous cytogenetic and biochemical evidence.Key words: cladistic analysis, Fabaceae, Loteae, Lotus, Old World species, phylogeny.

Abstract:
In Australia in 2011 the Federal government introduced a voluntary offset scheme called the Carbon Farming Initiative, which allows farmers to receive carbon credits when they reduce or sequester greenhouse gas emissions. Various mitigation options have since been explored for their potential to reduce on-farm greenhouse gas emissions. Among these is the use of alternative pastures that lower methane (CH4) production of grazing animals such as Lotus corniculatus, a legume that contains condensed tannins that inhibit the formation of CH4 in the rumen. Lotus has other benefits for sheep production such as increased wool growth, liveweight gain and fecundity. This study modelled the potential emission, production and economic outcomes for wool and lamb enterprises that incorporate lotus in their pastures, evaluating the impact of existing farm productivity, lotus intake and carbon price. Depending on the amount of lotus consumed and the CH4 reduction rate, CH4 emissions fell by 0.02–0.38 t carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e)/ha and 0.05–0.48 t CO2e/ha on wool and prime lamb enterprises, respectively. At a price of $6/t CO2e potential offset income attributable to use of lotus across all enterprises was $0.12–2.91/ha. Increases in income from increased productivity were 15–30 times greater than from potential carbon offset income. Income was driven by the amount of lotus dry matter intake and the subsequent production benefits. Over a 10-year period prime lamb enterprises generated up to $50/ha in profit by using lotus, due to increased liveweight gain and fecundity. In most modelled scenarios wool enterprises would not cover the cost of lotus pasture establishment. This research demonstrated that 18–23% and 37–46% of lotus intake within the diet was required to generate production enough to cover pasture establishment costs on prime lamb and wool enterprises, respectively. Potential carbon offset income would not be sufficient for farmers to establish lotus without the productivity benefits. While extra profit may be gained on prime lamb enterprises through the use of lotus, problems with persistence must first be overcome for lotus to be adopted on farms.

Environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and FTIR were used to characterize surface morphology and microscopic structure of lotus fibers before and after degumming. The effect of alkaline degumming on tensile properties of lotus fibers is investigated. The results show that impurities remove, hydrogen bond rupture, and crystallinity of partly armorphous chain occur during alkaline degumming. All of these changes play roles in influencing fiber tensile breaking force and elongation at break.

Abstract:
Lotus was a tri-lingual quarterly brought out by the Afro-Asian Writers' Association. Initially titled Afro-Asian Writings, its inaugural edition was launched from Cairo in March 1968, in Arabic and English, followed by the French. By 1971, the trilingual quarterly acquired the name Lotus. Egypt, the Soviet Union, and the German Democratic Republic funded its production. The Arabic edition was printed in Cairo, and the English and French editions were printed in the German Democratic Republic. The Afro-Asian Writers' Association (AAWA) and its over-arching affiliate, the Afro-Asian People's Solidarity Organization (AAPSO), both had headquarters in Cairo. In 1978, President Anwar Sadat signed the Camp David Accords and the Permanent Bureau in Cairo was deactivated. Lotus moved to Beirut despite the raging Civil War, where it was was granted home and hospitality by the Union of Palestinian Writers. Its offices remained there until the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982 when it once again relocated along with the Palestinian Liberation Organization to Tunis. The journal was discontinued in the late 1980s or early 1990s with the dismantling of the Soviet Union. The Permanent Bureau in Cairo was reinstated, but the journal was not as such reactivated. The project outlines a partial biography of a forgotten magazine from a bipolar world and its interrupted historical networks. It considers graphic and textual elements from the margins of the magazine for evidence of its trajectory.
