Abstract:
Lotus birth is the practice of leaving the umbilical cord uncut until separation occurs naturally. Our case series report describes delivery characteristics, neonatal clinical course, cord and placenta management, maternal reasons for a lotus birth, and desire for future lotus births. Between April 2014 and January 2017, six lotus births occurred. Mothers (four of the six) were contacted by phone after giving birth. A chart review was completed on each patient to evaluate if erythromycin ointment, hepatitis B vaccine, and vitamin K (intramuscular or oral) were administered, treatment of the placenta, maternal group B streptococcus status, postnatal infant fevers, infant hemoglobin or hematocrit levels, jaundice requiring phototherapy, and infant readmissions. Three of the six families decided to cut the cord before hospital discharge. No infections were noted. All contacted mothers would elect for a lotus birth again (4/6). One hepatitis B vaccine was given; all others declined perinatal immunization.

Abstract:
Lotus birth is a normal delivery process, there is no need to clamp the umbilical cord as usual, let alone cut the umbilical cord, allowing the umbilical cord to separate naturally in newborns. Lotus birth can prevent anemia in newborns, so that the baby still gets a blood supply. through the placenta which contains red blood cells, iron, hormone oxygen and other enzymes. This study aims to understand more deeply the experience of mothers who gave birth with Lotus Birth. The researcher involved 29 participants who were selected through a purposive sampling technique based on (1) mothers who had previous experience of giving birth with the lotus birth method. (2) mothers who gave birth by lotus birth. (3) mothers who agreed were taken as the research sample. (4) mothers who gave birth normally and spontaneously without complications. The interviews were conducted in a formally structured manner and analyzed by descriptive analysis method.

Abstract:
Lotus birth is a method of delivery that allows the umbilical cord to stay connected to the baby after birth, without pinching or cutting it. So the baby is expected to get more blood containing containing oxygen, nutrients that can produce antibodies. The formulation of the problem in this research is what factors influence the umbilical cord decay and the extent of the effectiveness of lotus birth in processing umbilical cord decay as an antibody in the Eka Maternity Clinic and the purpose of this study is to determine the factors that influence cord decay and know the extent of effectiveness lotus birth in processing umbilical cord decay as an antibody at the Eka Maternity Clinic. This type of research used in this study was an experiment with a Case Control study approach. This research was conducted at the Eka Maternity Clinic in 2017. The population in this study were all mothers who gave birth normally with lotus birth births in 2016 as many as 56 people and the sample was the entire population used as samples as many as 56 people. Data analysis conducted in this study was quantitative for using the T-test. Statistical test results of the effectiveness of lotus birth in the process of umbilical cord decay as an antibody with Paired t-test found that the p value of 0,000, with a tcount of 7.631 which means that the lotus birth giving is very effective against the process of cord decay as an antibody that is equal to 7.631. These results are in line with the 2015 Herlyssa study, the results of the T test statistical analysis showed that the growth of 7-day-old babies born with the lotus birth method is better than babies born with the usual method with a P value of 0.00. Lotus birth is an act of delaying cutting the umbilical cord after the baby is born. By not delaying watching, the baby will receive an additional 50-100 ml of blood containing iron, red blood cells, keeping blood and other nutrients that are very beneficial for babies until the first year, especially for antibodies.

Background: The birth process varies greatly; health workers should be able to provide education about each technique and help patients plan their labor process. Each delivery technique is assessed from the mother's side and the baby's side, not only for patient satisfaction but also for patient safety. This article will provide a review of various birth technique known which are home birth, water birth, lotus birth, hypno birth, and including various birth position. Methods: This article is a systematic review of qualitative and quantitative studies from studies published in PubMed, Cochrane, the British Medical Journal, BioMed Central, and Elsevier, published in 2015 to 2023. The study sample included healthy maternal nulliparous or multiparous women with a low risk of complications. The focus of the research is on childbirth using home birth techniques, water birth, lotus birth, hypno birth, and birth positions. This article includes research conducted in hospitals, maternity homes, and patients' homes. Results: There are 6 studies included in this review. Each of which provide the perspectives and experiences of patients and healthworkers regarding various birth technique used. Conclusions: Each birthing technique has its own advantages and disadvantages. Each birthing technique also has its own recommendation criteria so that a birthing technique cannot be used for every birthing patient. The birthing technique and birthing position must be adjusted to the patient's condition and the medical facilities available at that time.

Abstract:
Ante-Natal Care (ANC) is a health service by professionals provided to mothers during pregnancy which is carried out in accordance with antenatal care standards. The delay in cutting the umbilical cord is to leave the umbilical cord uncut for at least 1 hour which is believed to increase immunity in newborns. This study aims to conduct advanced midwifery care with a delay in cutting the umbilical cord at the Shanty Clinic. The research method is a case study. Management is carried out with a continuous of care approach, namely midwifery care for Ny. A G1P0A0 starting from Pregnancy, Childbirth, BBL, Postpartum and Family Planning at the Shanty Maternity Clinic. Comprehensive midwifery care for Mrs. "A" received complaints that were felt to be still in physiological terms and management had been carried out according to the complaints and in accordance with the physiological results and management in accordance with the conditions in patients during pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, neonates, and family planning. The first stage of Mrs. "A"'s labor went normally, with the second stage of delayed cutting of the umbilical cord for 60 minutes. The treatment carried out is to observe the progress and condition of the fetus and it is running well and has no problems. There are still many mothers who give birth with delays in cutting the umbilical cord due to the lack of choice of place of birth with delays in the umbilical cord.

Abstract:
The discursive construction of the human placenta varies greatly between hospital and home-birthing contexts. The former, driven by medicolegal discourse, defines the placenta as clinical waste. Within this framework, the placenta is as much of an afterthought as it is considered the “afterbirth.” In home-birth practices, the placenta is constructed as a “special” and meaningful element of the childbirth experience. I demonstrate this using 51 in-depth interviews with women who were pregnant and planning home births in Australia or had recently had home births in Australia. Analysis of these interviews indicates that the discursive shift taking place in home-birth practices from the medicalized model translates into a richer understanding and appreciation of the placenta as a spiritual component of the childbirth experience. The practices discussed in this article include the burial of the placenta beneath a specifically chosen plant, consuming the placenta, and having a lotus birth, which refers to not cutting the umbilical cord after the birth of the child but allowing it to dry naturally and break of its own accord. By shifting focus away from the medicalized frames of reference in relation to the third stage of labor, the home-birthing women in this study have used the placenta in various rituals and ceremonies to spiritualize an aspect of birth that is usually overlooked.

Abstract:
A quantitative-qualitative study was performed to describe outcomes and experiences of women who gave birth in an out-of-hospital setting in Rome, Italy, between 2016 and 2018. A retrospective observational study was carried out through the collection of clinical and healthcare data of 96 women assisted in these 3 years. Among them 9 were transferred to hospital during labour. The main outcomes of the out-of-hospital deliveries (n = 87) were: intact perineum and no third- or fourth-degree perineal tear in 44,8% of cases, delayed cord clamping in 100% of cases (of which 26.4% were lotus birth) and exclusive breastfeeding in 94.3% of cases at 7 days after delivery and 93.3% at 3 and 6 months. The qualitative phase was conducted on 15 women and involved focus groups and in-depth interviews. It emerged that the choice to give birth in an out-of-hospital setting was mainly due to either the couple’s respect for birth physiology and intimacy or a previous negative experience of hospital birth.

A special feature of the world-famous Meenakshi Amman temple in Madurai is the Golden Lotus Pond (Potramarai Pond). The “Thiruvilaiyatal Purana” (The Divine Comedy) shows this very clearly. The 64 Legends of Lord Shiva are based on the Potramarai Pond. It is located within the premises of the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple. It is called the Pottamarai Thirtham. Living beings take birth in this world for the sake of predestined benefit. It is believed that the sins they commit knowingly and unknowingly are washed away when they bathe in the holy waters. The myth says that Lord Shiva created this pond by placing his stick on the earth at the request of Nandideva. Another legend says that when Indra arrived in Kadambavana, he built a pond that received golden lotuses to worship Shiva and that became Pottamaraikulam. As a sign of this, even now a golden lotus flower is left floating in this pool. The purpose of this article is to explore the specialty of the Potramarai pond through Shiva Legends.

ABSTRACT The person who brings Buddhism into the world must have the qualities to learn and practice the Buddha's Dharma. The material of Buddha's dharma/ or quality of Buddha's dharma is to help sentient beings return to live with their inherent awareness or the nature of awareness and Buddha-nature. This awareness and Buddha nature in the Avatamsaka Sutra is called "the wisdom of the Tathagata." The Lotus Sutra (Suddharma-Pundarika Sutra) is "knowledge of the Buddha." In the Shurangama Sutra, it is the true mind. Zen Buddhism calls it "the original face or Buddha-nature." Phenomenologically, dharmas in the world are governed by the law of impermanence: birth, old age, illness, death, birth and death, and samsara, but in essence, the "true face – original face" of the human being hidden behind the birth and death person is a person with whole nature: permanence, happiness, ego, and purity. Abstract:
Lotus corniculatus (lotus) contains condensed tannins (CT; 25-35 g/kg DM), which reduce the microbial degradation of forage protein in the rumen and increase amino acid absorption from the small intestine. In grazing experiments at Palmerston North during the 1990s, sheep grazing L. corniculatus had superior wool production, body growth and ovulation rates (OR) relative to sheep grazing lucerne (Medicago sativa) or perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne)/white clover (Tritolium repens) pasture. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) drenching studies showed that action of CT was responsible for a component of the increases in wool growth and OR, but not body growth, and increased milk yield in lactating ewes. The 'Massey lotus' programme moved in 2000 to Riverside farm in the Wairarapa, where L. corniculatus is more agronomically suited, and its integration into dryland farming systems is being studied. We aim to develop systems that increase animal productivity whilst also reducing chemical input, notably of anthelmintic drenches. In two experiments conducted over 12 weeks in spring, ewes and lambs grazing L. corniculatus without pre-lamb drenching had lower faecal egg counts (FEC) and lower dag scores than ewes and lambs grazing pasture. Also, liveweight gain (+44%), weaning weight (+26%) and wool production (+32%) were greater for lambs grazing lotus. Weaned lambs grazing L. corniculatus over 14 weeks in summer grew faster than those grazing pasture (298 cf. 201 g/day) when regularly drenched. Reduction of anthelmintic drenching reduced the growth rates of lambs grazing L. corniculatus, but at 228 g/day this was still much faster than those grazing pasture (187 g/day). Lambs grazing L. corniculatus with restricted anthelmintic grew slightly faster than regularly drenched lambs grazing pasture. In addition, ewes mated on L. corniculatus had greater ovulation rates, lambing % and weaning % (approximately 25%) than ewes mated on pasture. Lamb weaning weight was unaffected by the ewes grazing L. corniculatus during mating, but mortality rate during the period from birth to weaning was lower for lambs that were conceived when their dams were grazing lotus. Annual (dry matter) production under grazing averaged over two years (2000-2001), was 9.5 t/ha for L. corniculatus and 8.6 t/ha for pasture. The percentages of annual production that occurred in spring, summer, autumn and winter were 49, 40, 8 and 4%, respectively, for L. corniculatus and 55, 30, 9 and 6%, respectively, for pasture. L. corniculatus has potential as a specialist feed in dryland farming systems for use during mating to increase subsequent lambing percentage and to increase lamb growth while reducing anthelmintic use. The result is more lambs being drafted at an earlier age. Key words: agronomy, body growth, condensed tannins, dry matter yield, Lotus corniculatus, reproduction, sheep, withdrawing anthelmintic, wool growth

Before calving, the females were managed in natural prairies and fed sweet clover (Lotus corniculatus) and ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.), with loads of 315 and 501 kg ha-1, respectively. Females were divided into groups according to the average birth weight into light 346.15 ± 3.39 kg; moderate 381.95 ± 2.99 kg; and heavy 412.63 ± 3.33 kg weights. The indicators evaluated were: primiparous weights and body conditions at calving and weaning, daily average and total gains, fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI), and accumulation. Calves at birth and weaning had their daily average and total weights evaluated. In terms of production, the daily average and total gains per pair and effective herd production (EHP) of the weight groups were measured. At weaning, morphometric measures, viz. croup height and thoracic perimeter had a linear relationship increasing with the weight at calving. In FTAI and cumulative pregnancy, the groups of light and moderate cows were more efficient than the heavy group cows, with values of 81.25%, 75.00%, and 55.56%, respectively. The EHP differed between the groups with values of 37.07 ± 1.71, 28.13 ± 1.50, and 19.99 ± 1.68 kg, for light, moderate, and heavy, respectively. Light cows were 31.8% and 85.4% higher in effective production than moderate and heavy cows, respectively. Knowledge of the production system is important for enhancing breeding efficiency. The improvement in productive performance is related to the adequacy of metrices used in the production system.

Abstract:
The article deals with the relief scenes of the ancient Egyptian stele Abkau (XI Dyn.), which are usually interpreted in the context of the Osirian cult. On the basis of comparative analysis of drawings and inscriptions of the stele with the Egyptian funerary texts (the Pyramid Texts, the Coffin Texts, the Book of the Dead, the Book of Day and Night) the author reveals the symbolic meaning of stela reliefs in the context of the mythological stories about the birth of the sun god from a lotus flower, the mourning of Osiris, the birth and growth of his son Horus in Buto, the battle of Horus with the enemies of Osiris and his subsequent ascension to the throne, the stay of the solar god and the deceased in the Fields of Offerings and/or the Fields of Reeds, which were considered the dwelling of “blessed” souls. In the context of the solar, Osiris and funerary cults, the Neshmet bark is understood not only as an Osirian boat and a boat of the deceased in the afterlife, but also as an image of a celestial boat, as well as a symbol of the lunar crescent and the horizon line. The study of the composition of stela reliefs reveals that they do not represent the sailing of the Neshmet bark depicted in the middle of the register, but rather its stationary stay in the sanctuary of the temple of Abydos, among the rooms where offerings were made to the various gods mentioned in the line above the middle register.

Abstract:
Objective: This case study aims to examine the effect of classical music therapy interventions on patients undergoing caesarean sections. Method: The approach chosen for the study is a descriptive method using a case study approach and nursing care approach that involves assessment, formulating nursing diagnoses, implementing interventions, and evaluating carried out for 3 days in the Lotus 2 room BLUD RSU Banjar City and referring to the SDKI, SLKI, and SIKI books. This case study research used one patient to be used as a subject, and the selection of participants used accidental sampling. Data collection techniques used by the author include interviews, observation, physical examination, and documentation studies using the SOAPIER method. Result: Nursing diagnosis Acute pain related to physical injury agents (surgery, birth canal trauma, episiotomy) with the diagnosis number D.0077 The patient experiences pain in the wound area post-sectio caesarea surgery in the abdominal region, which is indicated by the patient's complaint. They mention that pain is felt when engaging in excessive movement, there is a postoperative wound in the abdominal area, and the patient grimaced when moving. The pain scale is 8 (0–10), and with intervention given for 3 days with a duration of 15 minutes a day, acute pain nursing problems, which were originally a scale of 8 (0–10), have decreased to a scale of 4 (0–10). Conclusion: There is evidence to suggest that the use of classical music therapy can help reduce pain in patients who have had a caesarean section. From May 31, 2023, to June 2, 2023, nursing interventions involving classical music therapy were carried out for 15 minutes each day. During this period, the patient's pain decreased from level 8 on a scale of 0 to 10 to level 4 on the same scale. These changes indicate that the acute pain has been partially relieved.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; line-height: 150%;">Genetic Polymorphisms of IGF1, GH, and OPN Genes in Crossbred of Peranakan Ongole Cattle Based on Birth Type in Central Java. Improved productivity by crossing Peranakan Ongole (PO) cattle to exotic beef cattle through AI mating is preferred by many farmers in Central Java. Fertility determines the ability of a cow to give birth. IGF1 gene is predicted to affect either twin or multiple births in cattle, whereas GH and OPN genes determine reproductive fertility. Genetic polymorphisms of these three genes were studied in the crossbred of PO cattle for single birth (S) as well as twin and multiple (M) births or their historical (M) ones from two districts in Central Java, from Sragen (S = 7 hd and M = 13 hd.) and from Kendal (S = 9 hd, and M = 16 hd.). Genetic polymorphisms were identified by PCR-RFLP (polymerase chain reaction - restriction fragment length polymorphism) method using restriction enzymes of <em>Sna</em>BI (IGF1 gene), <em>MSp</em>I (GH gene), and <em>Bsr</em>I (OPN gene). IGF1|<em>Sna</em>BI locus in the observed crossbred PO did not have SNP polymorphism or monomorphic for single and twins or multiple births. In contrast, GH|<em>MSp</em>I and OPN|<em>Bsr</em>I loci were polymorphic with quite a high degree of diversity. In conclusion, the IGF1|<em>Sna</em>BI<em> </em>locus cannot be used to investigate possible genetic control of twins and multiple births, whilst GH|<em>MSp</em>I and OPN|<em>Bsr</em>I polymorphisms can be considered as initial information for selection on fertility traits in beef cattle.</p>

The aim of this study is to analyze the designs of <i>chujun</i>(rice wine jar) and <i>hwajun</i>(flower vase), white porcelain vessels used in Chosŏn’s royal marriage ceremonies, and to identify how their use differed according to the status of the person being married. Furthermore, I propose the circumstances under which the <i>paekchayongjun</i>(white porcelain jar with dragon design) stored at the British Museum was produced.</br><i>paekchach’ŏnghwajuhae</i>, a type of white porcelain jar for rice wine with decoration of dragons in underglaze cobalt blue, stands out among white porcelain vessels used in royal marriages as it was reserved for the king or the crown prince. Those made in late Chosŏn are taller than fifty centimeters in height and decorated with a design of two dragons with five toenails, foliage patterns around the mouth, palm leaf patterns around the shoulders, and lotus petal patterns at the bottom. Originally, the use of blue and white porcelain had not been granted for the marriage of princes and princesses who were not heirs to the throne, but <i>ch’ŏnghwayonghwajun</i>, a type of white porcelain jar with the decoration of dragons in underglaze cobalt blue was permitted as flower vases in the early eighteenth century(1721-1753). However, as King Yŏngjo increasingly advocated frugality, <i>ch’ŏnghwayonghwajuns</i> were replaced with simple white porcelain in 1764, marking the latest date for <i>ch’ŏnghwayonghwajuns</i>. The surviving examples of <i>ch’ŏnghwayonghwajun</i> are almost identical in pattern to paekchach’ŏnghwajuhaes, but are smaller in size — about thirty centimeters tall — and the dragons only have four toenails.</br>Based on evidences, I propose that the jar stored at the British Museum was likely used at the wedding of Princess Hwasun and Kim Hanshin in 1732, the eighth year of King Yŏngjo’s reign. This vessel likely represents the King’s wishes for the birth of grandchildren by the princess, and was inherited by her descendants, Kim I-ju, Kim Noyŏng, Kim Nogyŏng, and Kim Jŏnghŭi.

Abstract:
This study investigates the relationship between birth order, achievement motivation, academic performance, and locus of control among young adults. Drawing on Alfred Adler’s theory of birth order and other motivational theories, the research aims to determine if birth order influences levels of achievement motivation, academic success, and locus of control among undergraduate and postgraduate students aged 18-25. Using a cross-sectional, quantitative research design, data were collected from 304 participants through structured questionnaires, including the Deo-Mohan Achievement Motivation Scale, the Academic Performance Scale, and Rotter’s Locus of Control Scale. Statistical analyses revealed a significant positive relationship between achievement motivation and academic performance, while locus of control demonstrated a modest but significant negative correlation with both. However, no direct relationship was identified between birth order and academic performance or locus of control, though firstborns exhibited marginally higher levels of achievement motivation. These findings underscore the importance of psychological factors, such as motivation and perceived control, in academic success while suggesting that birth order's impact is more nuanced and indirect.

Abstract:
Introduction: There is limited research data on unassisted childbirth (a planned out-of-hospital birth without the attendance of a regulated care provider) in Canada; this means that there is a lack of understanding of its prevalence and of the childbearing women’s motivations. This study aimed to uncover women’s reasons for planning to give birth in the absence of an attendant licensed to practice in New Brunswick, in order to create insight into mainstream maternity care practices through those who have rejected them. Methods: In-depth qualitative interviewing with women who have had planned home births in New Brunswick in the past 10 years. Results: Participants had a variety of motivations and influences that played in their decision to have an unassisted home birth, including deeply held beliefs about childbirth and the need to manifest these beliefs in their experiences of birth. Participants expressed their desire to be the locus of control in their childbirth experience and believed they could best accomplish this outside of the hospital setting. Influences included ideological stance toward birth, the attitudes of their families and friends, and birth stories they had heard. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that when women’s needs are not met by mainstream health services, some will choose to give birth in the absence of a skilled provider or independent attendant. This gives rise to the need for discussion between all care providers and parturient women to better understand unmet needs and unaddressed fears around hospital birth. Abstract:
Congenital hearing loss is the most common birth defect, estimated to affect 2–3 in every 1000 births, with ~50–60% of those related to genetic causes. Technological advances enabled the identification of hundreds of genes related to hearing loss (HL), with important implications for patients, their families, and the community. Despite these advances, in Latin America, the population with hearing loss remains underdiagnosed, with most studies focusing on a single locus encompassing the GJB2/GJB6 genes. Here we discuss how current and emerging genetic knowledge has the potential to alter the approach to diagnosis and management of hearing loss, which is the current situation in Latin America, and the barriers that still need to be overcome.

Abstract:
Introduction: Fucosidosis is a rare lysosomal storage disease, of which in Cuba, patients have been reported only in Holguín province. Objective: to characterize the epidemiological and genetic-population behavior of fucosidosis in Holguín province.Method: A case series study was carried out, whose universe and sample included all families with patients with fucosidosis, diagnosed between 1985 and 2023. Birth prevalence, mortality rate, attributable mortality, and consanguinity rate were calculated. Gene and genotypic frequencies were estimated from the prevalence. A Hardy-Weinberg test for the analysis of gene equilibrium at the FUCA 1 locus was applied to the results of the genotypic characterization for the Q427X mutation. Results: 19 patients were diagnosed, belonging to 13 families, which represented a birth prevalence of 3.28 x 105 live births. The case fatality and parental consanguinity rates were 0.84 and 0.53 respectively. The estimated frequencies of the recessive allele and the heterozygous genotype were 0.0057271 and 0.0113887, respectively, so approximately 11,660 people in the population of the Holguín province at the end of 2023 must have been carriers. The existence of gene equilibrium for the FUCA1 locus in the population genotypically characterized for the Q427X mutation suggests that the affected families have remained in the original region, and systematic and stochastic factors that alter gene frequencies, including the existence of gene flow, have not occurred since the apparition of the disease due to a founder effect. The mutation rate of the gene must have remained constant according to the selection coefficient at the locus, corresponding to a lethal disease whose fitness is zero. Conclusions: The prevalence of fucosidosis in Holguín province is one of the highest worldwide and is the result of the combination of the founder effect due to genetic drift of the Q427X mutation, with parental consanguinity and genetic isolation due to socioeconomic causes

Abstract:
Abstract. This study was conducted to determine the polymorphisms of the POU1F1 gene and their relationships with milk yield and components, litter size, birth weight, and weaning weight in goats. For this purpose, a total of 108 Saanen goats from two different farms (Bornova and Manisa) were used as animal materials. Polymorphisms at the exon 6 and the 3′ flanking region of the POU1F1 gene were determined by using PCR-RFLP with PstI and AluI restriction enzymes and DNA sequencing analyses. Two alleles and three genotypes were identified by AluI or PstI digestions of the POU1F1 gene. The genotypes frequencies of TT, TC, and CC were 64.8 %, 31.5 % and 3.7 % for the PstI locus; 54.6 %, 31.5 % and 13.9 % for the AluI locus, respectively. T allele frequencies (0.56 and 0.88 for the AluI locus, 0.80 and 0.81 for the PstI locus, respectively) were predominant in both loci at the Bornova and Manisa farms. In terms of POU1F1-AluI and POU1F1-PstI loci, two populations were found to be in Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium. In the POU1F1-AluI locus, significant associations were found between genotypes and lactation milk yield and litter size. Similarly, a significant relationship between genotypes and birth weight in the POU1F1-PstI locus (p<0.05) was determined. The TC and CC genotypes were observed to be higher than the TT genotype for lactation milk yield and litter size at the POU1F1-AluI locus. Birth weight was found to be higher in animals that have the CC genotype at the POU1F1-PstI locus. In conclusion, the POU1F1 gene can be used as a molecular marker for economic features like reproduction, growth, milk content and yield in Saanen goats.

Abstract:
Despite ongoing efforts to reduce maternal mortality in Nigeria, the uptake of skilled birth attendance remains persistently low, especially in rural areas. While structural and socio–demographic barriers have been widely studied, less attention has been paid to psychological determinants of maternal healthcare-seeking behavior in low-resource settings. This study explores how the locus of control influences the use of skilled birth care among postpartum women in rural Edo State, Nigeria, and whether neuroticism serves as a mediating factor in this relationship. We draw on data from a cross-sectional survey involving 1411 women aged 15–45 who had given birth within the two years preceding the study. Participants were recruited from 20 randomly selected communities across two rural Local Government Areas. Data were collected using structured interviews that included validated measures of locus of control, neuroticism, and self-reported use of skilled birth care. We applied the Baron and Kenny mediation framework using linear and logistic regression models with standardized coefficients, adjusting for education, household wealth, and women’s decision-making autonomy. The findings show that women with a more external locus of control were significantly less likely to utilize skilled birth care (p < 0.01), and that neuroticism partially mediated this effect. Higher levels of neuroticism were associated with a reduced likelihood of engaging with skilled maternity care services. These results highlight the importance of psychological traits in shaping maternal health behaviors. Integrating psychosocial interventions, such as emotional support, cognitive reframing, and community health education, into maternal healthcare programs may improve service uptake in marginalized rural populations.

Abstract:
In developed countries, pregnancy-related listeriosis accounts for 20–43% of total invasive listeriosis. This work describes the first pregnancy-related listeriosis survey in Italy based on two data sources, that is, mandatory notification system and regional laboratory-based network. Out of 610 listeriosis cases reported over a 10-year period, 40 were pregnancy-related (6.6%). Among these, 29 pregnancy-related isolates were available and have been analysed with serotyping, Pulsed-Field Gel Electrophoresis, and Multi-Virulence-Locus Sequence Typing. No maternal fatality was recorded, but 11 (29.7%) pregnancies resulted in a foetal death, a miscarriage, or a birth of a foetus dying immediately after birth. The average incidence of pregnancy-related listeriosis was 4.3 cases per 100000 births, and the proportion of pregnancy-associated listeriosis among ethnic minorities was significantly higher compared to the general population (30.0% versus 3.5%,P<0.01).L. monocytogenesisolates belonged to serotypes 1/2a, 1/2b, and 4b, with the latter significantly more prevalent among pregnancy-related isolates. Twenty different pulsotypes were distinguished and 16 out of the 29 isolates were classified into seven clusters. A total of 16 virulence types (VTs) were identified. Five VTs accounted for 45% of the total cases and coincided with those of previously described Epidemic Clones (ECs) ofL. monocytogenes.

There have been divergent opinions as to the suitability of the various indicators of locus of control in business management research. This study examines how the indicators of internal locus and strategic locus of control function in the small business context. The study examines first the interrelations between these indicators and then relation between each of the indicators and the firm's strategic factors. The indicators of locus of control differed from each other in their relation to external control. The indicator of strategic locus of control correlated with the firm's targets, strategic decision-making and success. On the other hand the indicator of internal locus of control is useful in research on entrepreneurship and the birth of new firms.

Abstract:
Abstract Objective To investigate to what extent locus of control, self-esteem, psychological distress, physical exercise, as well as socio-demographic factors are associated with obesity in 42-year-old adults in a longitudinal birth cohort study. Method The sample consisted of 5645 participants born in Great Britain in 1970 and followed up at 10, 34 and 42 years with data on body mass index measured at 34 and 42 years. Results There was an increase of adult obesity from 15.5% at age 34 to 21.2% at 42 years. Locus of control and self-esteem measured at age 10 years, psychological distress and educational qualifications assessed at age 34, and current occupational levels and physical exercise were all significantly associated with adult obesity at age 42. The associations remained significant after controlling for birth weight and gestation, maternal and paternal BMI, childhood BMI, and intelligence. Conclusion Childhood locus of control and self-esteem, educational qualifications, psychological distress and physical exercise were all significantly and independently associated with adult obesity.
