Abstract:
Jean-Baptiste Louvet's short but interesting career (1760-1797) splits in two chronological parts. This inspired writer first wins fame with 'Les Amours du Chevalier de Faublas', a romantic work of fiction published between 1787 and 1789. .

Abstract:
The Grands Magasins du Louvre was born in 1855 in the shadow of the Grand Hôtel du Louvre, in an expanding area following the works of Haussmann, only two years after the creation of the Bon Marché. Their creation is strongly linked to the project and the network of the Pereire brothers who wish to develop trade and luxury tourism in Paris. Louvre shops are quickly becoming one of the leading department stores, and even the most important by turnover in the 1870s and 1880s, as well as occupied space. Indeed, at first locked by the hotel, the store led by its two managers Chauchard and Hériot will engulf all the surrounding shops, as well as the hotel in 1879. They adopt the slogan of "the largest stores in the world". This first foot in the hotel industry will encourage its leaders to continue their expansion in this area by operating three additional hotels, the Terminus Saint-Lazare, the hotel d'Orsay and Crillon. The Grands Magasins du Louvre will therefore be the only department store to have invested in a sector other than commerce to diversify its activities. At the end of the nineteenth century, the store seems to know its heyday extending its influence on the national territory and abroad and sourcing goods from around the world. But the First World War and especially the economic crisis of the 1930s brought him a hard blow which he will not recover. In 1939 it first filed the balance sheet, before the closure was interrupted by the war. It will continue to survive after the Second World War, before finally disappearing in 1974

Abstract:
Louvered fins are used in compact heat exchangers to increase heat transfer by interrupting thermal boundary layer growth thereby increasing the convective heat transfer coefficients and reducing the air side resistance. Recently, it has been experimentally shown that heat transfer along the tube wall can be augmented by the placement of delta winglets on the louvers at an angle to the flow. The focus of this combined experimental and computational study is to determine the effect of realistic winglets on tube wall heat transfer. Comparisons of the computational simulations were made to the experimental results, which were obtained using a twenty times scaled model. Winglet performance characteristics were studied on solid louvers and pierced louvers whereby the latter simulates what would occur for a manufactured louver having a winglet. For a solid louver having a winglet, the tube wall heat transfer augmentation was found to be as high as 5.4%. Pierced louver cases were observed to produce slightly higher heat transfer augmentations than solid louver cases. Computational results suggest that the mechanism behind tube wall heat transfer augmentation is flow redirection and not winglet induced vortices.

Abstract:
The paper studies the effect of large louver angles on the performance of large pitch multilouvered fins at low Reynolds numbers. The Reynolds number based on face velocity and louver pitch is varied between 50 and 300. Louver angles are varied from 20° to 60° for fin pitch ratios of 1.5 and 2.0. It is found that increasing louver angle has a favorable effect on flow efficiency up to a certain point, beyond which the flow efficiency decreases. The maximum flow efficiency is realized at smaller louver angles as the Reynolds number increases. The drop in flow efficiency is attributed to the development of recirculation zones which act as blockages. In spite of the decrease in flow efficiency, the heat transfer coefficient increases with louver angle for all the cases studied. It is found that as louver angle increases, impingement heat transfer at the leading surface of louvers becomes a dominant mode of heat transfer. Friction factors also increase with louver angle, primarily due to an increase in form drag.

MAGNA STEYR Space Technology was authorised by the European Space Agency (ESA) to develop to breadboard level a low mass micro engineered device able to change the heat rejection capability of a radiator and to protect it against external radiation variations. Previous works of MAGNA in the field of thermal control systems was the thermal design, manufacturing and verification of the ROSETTA thermal Louvres [5]. Thermal Louvres in satellite applications are used for thermal control to avoid overheating of the new generation satellites by exposed or shadowed radiator area. The closing and opening of the louvers wings is performed by thermal controlled actuators. The Louvres system is designed to be controlled by solar radiation. The challenge in the project was the design, manufacturing and verification of louvers with less mass but higher efficiency than current louvers.

Abstract:
Abstract In this study, the air side heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of flat tube with louvered fins compact heat exchangers have been experimentally investigated. Three samples of heat exchangers, i.e., one without fins, one with flat louver fins and one with corrugated louver fins are studied. The louvers in the present samples have small louver pitch (Lp = 0.8mm) and high louver angle (θl = 37°) due to the space constraints in automotive applications. The performance tests were conducted in a high standard test facility which are composed of an evaporator chamber, condenser chamber and auxiliary units. In our study, only evaporators are tested and hence the condenser section is the same during the tests. Experimental results under the wet surface conditions show that the cooling capacity and pressure drop performances of evaporator with flat louver fins (HX2) is higher than the one with corrugated louver fins (HX3) while the evaporator without fins has the minimum heat transfer due to no interruptions. This can be due to higher number of tubes in the case of HX2 having small tube pitch. However, the overall performance (ratio of heat transfer per unit volume to pressure drop per unit volume) of HX2 is better than HX3 which signifies the importance of corrugated louver fins.

Abstract:
Boiler building in power plant includes various types of different equipments. These equipments can be boiler itself and others delivering energy which are acting as heat sources. Moreover, complex piping system to deliver hot steam to turbine and other auxiliary components add additional heat sources and make internal arrangement even more complex. In this study, ventilation analysis is performed to find proper location of openings such as louvers and windows, which ensures desired heat transfer. Various openings provide air passage to reduce stagnation area of high temperature inside enclosed structure. Ventilation analysis is applied to entire internal space of the enclosed structure with standard k-ε model. Opening size of the louver determines amount of air flow which gives direct cooling effect. Different combinations of the louver locations are studied together with size variations to find optimum condition for better ventilation. The location of louver is found as important factor in the ventilation effect. Vertical location change, especially, results enhanced cooling effect which provides effective passive design concept. The opening size of louver is found to have proportional effect on cooling. From the analysis, it is also found that high local temperature can be removed effectively by lowering upper louver location.

Abstract:
In the present study, 3-D numerical simulations on heat and fluid flow characteristics of double-row multi-louvered fins heat exchanger are carried out. The heat transfer improvement and the corresponding pressure drop amounts were investigated depending on louver angles in the range of 20° ≤θ≤ 30°, louver pitches of Lp = 2,7mm, 3,5mm and 3,8mm and frontal velocities of Uin between 1.22 m/s and 3 m/s. The results are reported in terms of Colburn j-factor, Fanning friction factor f and area goodness factor j/f based on louver angle, louver pitch and Reynolds number. To understand local behavior of flow around louvered fins and heat exchanger tubes, flow visualization results of velocity vectors and stream-lines with temperature counters are presented. It is investigated that increasing louver angle enhances convective heat transfer while hydraulic performance decreases due to increased pressure drop. The flow noticeably behaves louver directed for all louver angles The flow can easily travel between different fins. This case study has been done to design and manufacture an industrial louver fin heat exchanger.

Abstract:
Abstract Within the present investigation, a louver slot is employed upstream of an array full coverage film cooling holes. Cooling air is supplied using a combination arrangement, with cross-flow and impingement together. The louver consists of a row of film cooling holes, contained within a specially-designed device which concentrates, and directs the coolant from a slot, so that it then advects as a layer downstream along the test surface. This louver-supplied coolant is then supplemented by coolant which emerges from different rows of downstream film cooling holes. The same coolant supply passage is employed for the louver row of holes, as well as for the film cooling holes, such that different louver and film cooling mass flow rates are set by different hole diameters for the two different types of cooling holes. The results are different from data provided by past investigations, because of the use and arrangement of the louver slot, and because of the unique coolant supply configurations. The experimental results are given for mainstream Reynolds numbers from 107000 to 114000. Full-coverage blowing ratios are constant with streamwise location along the test surface, and range from 3.68 to 5.70. Corresponding louver slot blowing ratios then range from 1.72 to 2.65. Provided are heat transfer coefficient and adiabatic effectiveness distributions, which are measured along the mainstream side of the test plate. Both types of data show less variation with streamwise development location, relative to results obtained without a louver employed, when examined at the same approximate effective blowing ratio, mainstream Reynolds number, cross flow Reynolds number, and impingement jet Reynolds number. When compared at the same effective blowing ratio or the same impingement jet Reynolds number, spanwise-averaged heat transfer coefficients are consistently lower, especially for the downstream regions of the test plate, when the louver is utilized. With the same type of comparisons, the presence of the louver slot results in significantly higher values of adiabatic film cooling effectiveness (spanwise-averaged), particularly at and near the upstream portions of the test plate. With such characteristics, dramatic increases in thermal protection are provided by the presence of the louver slot, the magnitudes of which vary with experimental condition and test surface location.
