Abstract:
Environmental issues near roads become more and more important in our society daily life. One of the most critical environmental issues is traffic noise. The present paper study louvred noise barrier designed by authors. The louvred noise barrier provides sound attenuation while allowing airflow and sunlight through it. Since the airflow resistance of the barrier is low, it requires a shallow foundation compared to conventional noise barriers. The sound attenuation performance of the louvred noise barrier was tested experimentally in a sound transmission chamber. Airflow resistance simulated using a computational fluid dynamics model. The simulation and experimental study were done with different louvred noise barrier setup: change of louvre blade angle and sound-absorbing material thickness. The results showed potential for future development for the field testing. Sound attenuation was highest in 2500 Hz and 3150 Hz octave frequency bands. Depending on the louvred barrier setup, sound attenuation was up to 28 dB(A) in mentioned frequency bands. The equivalent sound pressure level reduced up to 17 dB(A). The results showed that an increase in the louvre blade angle increases sound attenuation and increases airflow resistance.

Abstract:
This paper presents parametric and multi-objective optimization (MOO) approach in optimizing daylight and energy consumption by incorporating louvres shading devices depicting three different sky conditions: Birmingham, UK, Jakarta, Indonesia, and Sydney, Australia. The study aims to observe the best louvre design configuration for each given context. The proposed optimization system iterates the logic of the louvre shading device as the dynamic design parameters such as overhang, blade size, spacing, and blade rotation, together with the room orientation to achieve maximum useful daylight illuminance (UDI) and the shading aperture while simultaneously reduces energy consumption. A total of 8509 simulations for three cities have been run and distributed for the purpose of this research. The results of MOO stated an improvement in UDI for Birmingham, Jakarta, and Sydney of 80%, 146.26%, and 79.48%, and cooling energy consumption of 28%, 3.26%, and 2.99% respectively.

Abstract:
The Archives des Musées Nationaux in the Palais du Louvre comprise the archives of the Louvre itself, and of the Direction des Musées de France including the Réunion des Musées Nationaux. The archives of the Louvre include both ‘les registres de copistes’, a record of artists who sought entry to the Louvre, to visit and to make copies, during 1821-1850, and ‘les registres des salons’, covering the years 1824-1853 when the salons were still held in the Louvre. Together these comprise an invaluable source of information on artists in the first half of the 19th century, including as they do details of particular works, and artists’ addresses. A detailed analysis of this documentation was scheduled to begin at the start of 1990.

Abstract:
This short study considers the artist Hubert Robert’s Imaginary View of the Grande Galerie in the Louvre in Ruins and Design for the Grande Galerie in the Louvre, a pair of pendants that were exhibited at the 1796 Salon du Louvre and are now part of the national museum’s permanent collection. Robert’s thought-provoking display explored the formation of the national collection at the Louvre as part of the broad spectrum of revolutionary iconoclasm. This article examines Robert’s contribution to emerging debates about patrimoine and his professional role working as keeper for the Louvre in relation to the production and exhibition of the views representing the museum. It proposes that while various interpretations were plausible, Robert presented his views of the Louvre’s transformation from a royal palace into a republican museum as a process characterized by creation and destruction.

Abstract:
The Grands Magasins du Louvre was born in 1855 in the shadow of the Grand Hôtel du Louvre, in an expanding area following the works of Haussmann, only two years after the creation of the Bon Marché. Their creation is strongly linked to the project and the network of the Pereire brothers who wish to develop trade and luxury tourism in Paris. Louvre shops are quickly becoming one of the leading department stores, and even the most important by turnover in the 1870s and 1880s, as well as occupied space. Indeed, at first locked by the hotel, the store led by its two managers Chauchard and Hériot will engulf all the surrounding shops, as well as the hotel in 1879. They adopt the slogan of "the largest stores in the world". This first foot in the hotel industry will encourage its leaders to continue their expansion in this area by operating three additional hotels, the Terminus Saint-Lazare, the hotel d'Orsay and Crillon. The Grands Magasins du Louvre will therefore be the only department store to have invested in a sector other than commerce to diversify its activities. At the end of the nineteenth century, the store seems to know its heyday extending its influence on the national territory and abroad and sourcing goods from around the world. But the First World War and especially the economic crisis of the 1930s brought him a hard blow which he will not recover. In 1939 it first filed the balance sheet, before the closure was interrupted by the war. It will continue to survive after the Second World War, before finally disappearing in 1974

Abstract:
The fragments of Greek architecture, which are conserved in the Louvre Museum are very various. They come from different sites and monuments, represent different architectural types of elements and date between the archaic and the late Hellenistic period. Discovered during the surveys and excavations of numerous French missions, organized during the 19th century, in Greece and Asia minor, they come from different types of monuments : temples (like Assos, Artemis leucophryene at Magnesia on Maeander, Apollon of Didyma, Athena of Priene, Apollon of Delos and Bassai, Zeus of Olympia), public buildings (Miletus, Phocaea, Pella, Eleusis), or palaces, like vergina. Several fragments come from unknown buildings. They are partly published but these publications are ancient and non complete and have not been revised recently. The interest of these fragments must be proved because they have to be better known and valorised

Abstract:
The symbolic force of the Louvre expresses itself through its latest territorial model. Instrumental to the French diplomacy, The Louvre embodies the French cultural influence on a French region in urban reconstruction (Hauts de France) or in countries in economical or political re-structuration (Émirats arabes unis, Iran). In a mondialisations context (Ghorra-Gobin, 2005), this reputation linked to the Louvre representations favours a locus desire. Our analysis of these representations emphasizes the fact that this géosymbol (Bonnemaison, 1981), present in the collective imaginary, is instrumental in the multiplication of the Louvre sites. The Louvre museum, the Louvre-Atlanta, the Louvre-Lens, the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Louvre Téhéran, plus the professional networks, partnerships, works of art circulation are as many aspects that facilitate the emergence of something superior to a network: the notion of a Louvre territory that can be understood by its temporalities (Braudel). Most importantly, the propagation of the Louvre (as a model) raises various questions as the museum itself is defined by its sacred part (i.e. its collections). This research work is an attempt to answer a crucial question: how (with this sacred part as a starting point), can the Louvre be an actor to the linkage of various loci (places) in a mondialisations context and how can the Louvre in fine initiate the creation of a territory. To conclude with, this research is an invitation to think about the impact (and evolution) of a Louvre territory in terms of an archipelago or of multi-situated territory. Our references to approach the territory concept are Guy Di Méo’s on territoriality and Yves Lacoste and Claude Raffestin’s in political geography on asymetrical relationships and power issues

Abstract:
The Louvre Museum keeps 302 Egyptian statues of the New Kingdom. Such a collection is rich enough to obtain some results which should be transposable to the complete Egyptian statuary of the period. The present work is dealing with this corpus from two angles. First, quantitative and qualitative analysis according to modern criteria. Second, attempt of analysis according to ancient Egyptian criteria, explicits and implicits. These last ones can particularly be deduced from the relations between two dimensional images, which are issued from the writing, and their transcription in volume, in other words the statuary. Then it is found that the conception of statuary is based on fundamental aspects of mobility and immobility, of action and inaction and, generally speaking, that it corresponds to aspective rules so characteristic of Egyptian thought, with the frequent manifestation of the perspective point of view which is superimposed to these basic rules

Abstract:
The egyptian collections of the louvre museum include more than 50 000 objects, very different, most of them without known provenience. Nevertheless, it is possible to give an unity to this heterogeneous collection by the means and by the purposes of specifical research, whose major steps are studied here: first of all, find the identity of the pieces, studying archives and history of the collections. Then, analyse methods of classification, registration and documentation, focusing on the dialectical links between egyptological knolewdge and elaboration of analysing patterns for the objects. This two steps are necessary to begin more conventional research. To illustrate this last kind of work, three exemples of personnal research applicated to the collections of the louvre museum are presented : studies on pharaonic musicology, on metal work (technical problems, jewellery, statuary) and research on the beginning of writing in the nile valley

In ASME 2006 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition. ASMEDC, 2006. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/imece2006-14452.

Abstract:
Louvered fins are used in compact heat exchangers to increase heat transfer by interrupting thermal boundary layer growth thereby increasing the convective heat transfer coefficients and reducing the air side resistance. Recently, it has been experimentally shown that heat transfer along the tube wall can be augmented by the placement of delta winglets on the louvers at an angle to the flow. The focus of this combined experimental and computational study is to determine the effect of realistic winglets on tube wall heat transfer. Comparisons of the computational simulations were made to the experimental results, which were obtained using a twenty times scaled model. Winglet performance characteristics were studied on solid louvers and pierced louvers whereby the latter simulates what would occur for a manufactured louver having a winglet. For a solid louver having a winglet, the tube wall heat transfer augmentation was found to be as high as 5.4%. Pierced louver cases were observed to produce slightly higher heat transfer augmentations than solid louver cases. Computational results suggest that the mechanism behind tube wall heat transfer augmentation is flow redirection and not winglet induced vortices.

Abstract:
Abstract In this study, the air side heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of flat tube with louvered fins compact heat exchangers have been experimentally investigated. Three samples of heat exchangers, i.e., one without fins, one with flat louver fins and one with corrugated louver fins are studied. The louvers in the present samples have small louver pitch (Lp = 0.8mm) and high louver angle (θl = 37°) due to the space constraints in automotive applications. The performance tests were conducted in a high standard test facility which are composed of an evaporator chamber, condenser chamber and auxiliary units. In our study, only evaporators are tested and hence the condenser section is the same during the tests. Experimental results under the wet surface conditions show that the cooling capacity and pressure drop performances of evaporator with flat louver fins (HX2) is higher than the one with corrugated louver fins (HX3) while the evaporator without fins has the minimum heat transfer due to no interruptions. This can be due to higher number of tubes in the case of HX2 having small tube pitch. However, the overall performance (ratio of heat transfer per unit volume to pressure drop per unit volume) of HX2 is better than HX3 which signifies the importance of corrugated louver fins.

Abstract:
Three subscale, cylindrical combustors were rig tested on natural gas at typical industrial gas turbine operating conditions. The intent of the testing was to determine the effect of combustor liner cooling on NOx and CO emissions. In order of decreasing liner cooling, a metal louvre-cooled combustor, a metal effusion-cooled combustor, and a backside-cooled ceramic (CFCC) combustor were evaluated. The three combustors were tested using the same lean-premixed fuel injector. Testing showed that reduced liner cooling produced lower CO emissions as reaction quenching near the liner wall was reduced. A reduction in CO emissions allows a reoptimization of the combustor air flow distribution to yield lower NOx emissions.
