Abstract:
Abstract In this article, I posit that Ngũgĩ’s oeuvre presents numerous instances of love, betrayal, and adultery. While love and adultery are limited to personal spaces, betrayal occurs in both the personal and political spheres in Ngũgĩ’s works. In the novel A Grain of Wheat, betrayals in the personal sphere are juxtaposed with betrayals in the political sphere. The betrayal within the political sphere has implications for the personal relations of the characters. Political ideals are betrayed by the complex and divided characters in Ngũgĩ’s narratives. The characters are not spared betrayal

What is the relationship between art and life, theatre and history? Two contemporary works, David Henry Hwang’s play M. By presenting twists of characters’ real-life relationships entwined with Western and Eastern operatic fantasies, Hwang and Chen complicate the 19th-century European romantic opera cliché of “tragic women dying f

In his writings, William Shakespeare tries to dig deep in the human feelings such as envy, hatred, love and betrayal that manifest themselves eventually in physical acts. His depiction of such issues seems so realistic; reflecting the psychological depth of his characters and leads to the audience to a better comprehension of the human nature. In this respect, the theme of betrayal in his plays should be put within a wider context. He delves deep in his characters minds, both the victims and the victimizers, to probe the feelings that cause people betray each other.

This study seeks to understand the many connections and intersections between Jordan's literature and film. In his Preface to the second edition of Formalism (1921), Scheler showed no doubts: the false heroism of duty and work, taught widely in German philosophy starting with Kant, is at the origin of the betrayal of joy and love as the original sources of all well-being, and is also the cause of the frightful disorder of the heart that afflicts the contemporary idea of work. For Scheler, it was a matter of retracing a horizon of meaning that, drawing upon that aknowledged source of the ontological dynamism that is love, can reintegrate work into the overall becoming of being, freeing it from the ec

When artists commit morally egregious acts, it often generates emotional conflict in their fans. For art lovers, a defining aspect of revelations about artists’ immoral behavior is how it makes them feel. They love the art but feel disgusted and betrayed by the artist’s actions. In particular, it argues that the artwork of immoral artists has a special role to play in helping us reconcile the conflicting attitudes
