Abstract:
Abstract In this article, I posit that Ngũgĩ’s oeuvre presents numerous instances of love, betrayal, and adultery. While love and adultery are limited to personal spaces, betrayal occurs in both the personal and political spheres in Ngũgĩ’s works. In the novel A Grain of Wheat, betrayals in the personal sphere are juxtaposed with betrayals in the political sphere. The betrayal within the political sphere has implications for the personal relations of the characters. Political ideals are betrayed by the complex and divided characters in Ngũgĩ’s narratives. The characters are not spared betrayal

His depiction of such issues seems so realistic; reflecting the psychological depth of his characters and leads to the audience to a better comprehension of the human nature. In this respect, the theme of betrayal in his plays should be put within a wider context. He delves deep in his characters minds, both the victims and the victimizers, to probe the feelings that cause people betray each other.

Abstract:
Could even the most ideal love justify betrayal? The author invites the reader to examine Boris Pasternak’s Doctor Zhivago through the lens of wrongdoing and forgiveness. She ponders whether Lara Antipova and Yura Zhivago can justify their actions with the beauty and the force of their love. In the light of the moral consequences of their actions, she finds such justification to be impossible. In her view the novel, culminating in the main characters’ deaths, opens itself to a transcendental sphere in which wounded people are laid bare in their humanity before themselves, free of the baggage o

Abstract:
Many of Eugene O’Neill’s characters deal with the complications of love. That is, declarations of love are not necessarily reciprocated. When this is the case, the lovers suffer unrequited love, which has been a frequent topos in classical as well as modern texts. Unrequited love encompasses three stages: the rejection, betrayal, or death of the beloved; the lover’s frustration; and finally, his or her reaction to the issue. This article, after presenting a short history of this topos, examined in a selection of classical texts, attempts to study the role it plays in Eugene O’Neill’s tragedy B

ABSTRACT: In December 2023, Taylor Swift attended a comedy show fundraiser for Palestinians in Gaza. A qualitative study was conducted with 23 11th and 12th grade students who self-identified as emotionally connected to both Israel and Swift to assess how these students understood Swift's attendance and whether it affected their parasocial relationships with her. By making use of the concepts of influencer betrayal and parasocial breakups, I demonstrate the ways in which the adolescents tried to make sense of how a celebrity with whom many felt close to could choose to attend an event whose pu

References to the concept of evil can be found scattered throughout Agatha Christie’s novels. It is, however, rare to encounter this as a prevalent theme, especially in the novels which feature her private detectives Poirot, Marple and Tommy and Tuppence. It is my contention in this article that it is not until two of her late novels Endless Night (1967) and The Pale Horse (1961) that Christie foregrounds the issue of evil and concurrent themes of psychotic and obsessive love and desire. Of course, there are multiple examples of the intersections between love and evil, involving betrayal, tric

AbstractShakespeare's Troilus and Cressida is a notoriously bleak and problematic play: a dark comedy, a witty tragedy, an X-rated romance. A love story set during the Trojan War, the play appears to treat both love and war with utter cynicism. Ulysses drives the plot, craftily luring a despondent Achilles back onto the battlefield, and exposing Troilus to the betrayal of his beloved Cressida. A world-class manipulator and debunker of love and honor, Ulysses casts a shadow over this sour play, though he seems curiously unaffected by his skeptical outlook. A few critics have argued that Ulysses
