We systematically studied the electromagnetic properties of carbon nanohorns (CNHs) and polystyrene composites filled with CNHs in static regime, low frequency and microwave regions. CNHs were synthesized using the direct current arc-discharge method using solid graphite rods and graphite rods filled by melamine mixed with graphite powder. Transmission electron microscopy and thermo-gravimetric analysis showed that CNH agglomerates are the main product, while the addition of melamine promotes the formation of graphite balls. The effect of stoichiometry, i.e. Ca/Cu ratios (CaCu3xTi4O12, x = 0.8, 0.9, 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2) on the microstructure and electrical properties was investigated. The grain sizes of CaCu3xTi4O12 composition increased sharply with the increase of copper, from ~1 μm with x = 0.8 to ~50 μm with x = 1.2. The real part of dielectric permittivity changed dramatically, the pellet with x = 1.0 had the highest dielectric permittivity ~160, 000 at 1 kHz. Furthermore, the dielectric permittivity of all pellets was impressively large values (between 10, 000 to 1, 000,000 at 100 Hz) and was nearly constant ov

Recovering material properties of the subsurface using ground-penetrating radar (GPR) data of finite bandwidth with missing low frequencies and in the presence of strong attenuation is a challenging problem. We have adopted three nonlinear inverse methods for recovering electrical conductivity and permittivity of the subsurface by joining GPR multioffset and electrical resistivity (ER) data acquired at the surface. All of the methods use ER data to constrain the low spatial frequency of the conductivity solution. The first method uses the envelope of the GPR data to exploit low-frequency conte

The results of experimental measurements of the complex dielectric permittivity (CDP) of sand and powders of quartz granules saturated with a saline solution with a conductivity from 0 to 0.77 S/m are presented. The measurements were carried out at the frequencies from 1 kHz to 5 GHz. It is shown that in the frequency range from 10 kHz to 100 MHz, the dielectric characteristics can be modeled by three relaxation processes. The parameters of these processes are described by the Debye and Cole-Cole formulas. For two low-frequency processes, regression equations that relate the parameters of the

Metacomposites with negative permittivity have triggered tremendous fundamental and practical attention in recent years. In this paper, Ti3SiC2 MAX phase/Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) metacomposites with different Ti3SiC2 content were prepared. Weakly negative permittivity value (between [Formula: see text] and 0) was observed near percolation (Ti3SiC2 content of 60[Formula: see text]wt.%), attributing to moderate carrier concentration in Ti3SiC2 networks, and negative permittivity was tuned by tailoring conductive Ti3SiC2 networks. Using the method of solid-phase synthesis, we obtained ceramic samples with a structure like tetragonal tungsten bronzes, pure Ca0.3Ba0.7Nb2O6 (CBN30) and with modifying additives SrTiO3, KTaO3, or LiTaO3. The dispersion of the permittivity in the frequency range from 1 Hz to 10 MHz, the temperature dependences of the permittivity (in the given frequency range) and the pyroelectric coefficient are studied. It is shown that if the introduction of the LiTaO3 impurity into the composition of CBN30 destabilizes the dielectric characteristics at frequencies above 100 kHz, then the SrTiO3 impurity i

The aim of this research work is to study the dielectric and microwave properties of the three ceramic composites Al2O3-TiC, Al2O3-0.3TiC and Al2O3-0.7TiC. The results obtained show that the effective permittivity increases with the increase in the filling rate of titanium carbide TiC inclusions and their contrasts. As for the classical mixing laws, they make it possible to estimate permittivity for low volume fractions and low contrasts. The values of the real part of the complex permittivity decrease with frequency increase in the two bands X and Ku, while the imaginary part is approximately

We report the dielectric characterization of three commercially available, high-permittivity Rogers laminates in the sub-terahertz range, by means of terahertz time-domain spectroscopy measurements in reflection mode. A transmission-line model is developed to obtain the reflectance spectra as a function of the frequency-dispersive complex relative permittivity of the substrates. The latter is fitted through optimization to a single Lorentzian term, which is shown to accurately reproduce the measured reflectance spectra. The substrates RO3010 and RT/duroid 6010.2LM exhibit significant frequency
