Due to the frequency response periodicity of distributed transmission line, microstrip band-pass filter usually produces parasitic pass-band and outputs harmonics away from the center frequency of main pass-band. Based on the study of rectangular ring defected ground structure, a 5-order microstrip LPF(low-pass filter) was designed using the single-pole band-stop and slow-wave characteristics of the rectangular ring DGS(Defected Ground Structure) and SISS(Step-Impedance Shunt Stub) structure. Abstract Currently, most microwave filters are designed using sophisticated computer-aided design (CAD) tools, which primarily based on the insertion loss method. The image parameter method (IPM), which can provide an effective control for the passband and stopband of microwave filters without any use of lumped prototypes, is paid little attention to microwave filter design. In this paper, the detailed design procedures for synthesizing microwave low-pass filter (LPF) and optimizing the performance of Butterworth filter with IPM are proposed. In this paper, the main work is focused on the design, simulation and fabrication of 2012-type low pass filter(LPF) using the technology of low temperature co-fired ceramic(LTCC). The three-order and -type LPF with 130MHz cut-off frequency and 260MHz out-band rejection is successfully implemented using two kinds of green tape with relative permittivity of 14 and relative permeability of 60 respectively. The measured results agree well with the simulated data and the design process is proved to be effective and reasonable.
