To identify a model legume experimental system for studying low temperature signaling and cold acclimation, cold-induced expression and regulation of homologues of alfalfa (Medicago sativa) cold acclimation-specific genes cas15 and cas30 were examined in M. arborea (relatively frost tolerant) and M. truncatula (relatively frost sensitive). Both cas15 and cas30 genes are present in the genomes of both species but whereas both genes are cold-induced in M. arborea, only cas15 is induced in M. truncatula. Cold-induced expression of these genes is inhibited by calcium chelators and channel blockers

[Truncated abstract] The salient feature of next generation infrared (IR) on-chip integrated sensors is likely to be sensitivity in a narrow wavelength band that is tuneable over a selected range of the IR spectrum. It is proposed that this can be achieved by the integration of present-day HgCdTe IR detectors with thin-film based microelectro- mechanical systems (MEMS) optical mirror technology. Narrow-band sensitivity is obtained by optical resonance phenomena within a Fabry-Perot (FP) cavity, that is created by two Bragg reflectors and is monolithically integrated with an HgCdTe IR detector.

Low-temperature energy systems are processes that operate below ambient temperatures and make use of refrigeration cycles, where the main energy consumption is due to the shaft work required to drive the compressors. Very-low-temperature energy systems, also known as cryogenic processes, operate at around -150°C and below. Due to increasing demand of products from cryogenic processes and tighter environmental regulations, existing plants need to be revamped to increase their energy efficiency or adapt to new processing capacities. Two different case studies were investigated and the dynamic heat demand profiles, simulated for each building, were used to evaluate plate radiators connected to single and double string heating loops. The method considered an optimisation procedure, based on supply and return temperatures, to obtain the required logarithmic m
