Abstract:
The abundance of natural resources can adversely affect the macroeconomic stability of countries. Developing economic institutions that support the proper management of extractive industry resources is one of the fundamental factors for maintaining macroeconomic stability and generating long-term economic growth. This paper evaluates the impact of terms-of-trade shocks on fiscal performance and economic growth in the countries of the Andean region. To adequately capture the variation in both the magnitude of shocks and the sensitivity of economic and fiscal variables to those shocks, this pape

Abstract:
Significant progress on gender equality has been made in past decades, but in recent years gender and sexual rights are increasingly under threat from a global wave of gender backlash. This is not new. Feminists have long faced resistance while building strategic steps towards greater gender justice and equality. But today, diverse anti-gender actors have gained in strength, funding and impact, amid wider global political shifts, which has resulted in a new and complex political landscape. Gender advocates face explicit violence, harassment, intimidation or threats of violence offline, and new

Abstract:
Grand Canyon National Park is all about time and timescales. Time is the currency of our daily life, of history, and of biological evolution. Grand Canyon’s beauty has inspired explorers, artists, and poets. Behind it all, Grand Canyon’s geology and sense of timelessness are among its most prominent and important resources. Grand Canyon has an exceptionally complete and well-exposed rock record of Earth’s history. It is an ideal place to gain a sense of geologic (or deep) time. A visit to the South or North rims, a hike into the canyon of any length, or a trip through the 277-mile (446-km) len

Abstract:
This case study unfolds the evolution of a small and local Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Service Initiative for Voluntary Action (SIVA), set up in 1994 in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, in Southern India—an area in which industrialsation and commercial development have been ignored for a long time. Diving deep into local issues at the grassroots level, the founder Subramania Siva, addressed the needs of distressed, marginalised families directly. SIVA Trust began small, and remained in a hyper-local mode for close to 30 years, but made a disproportionately large impact due to the founder’s pe

Soil degradation remains a critical challenge across Europe, threatening environmental sustainability, agricultural productivity, and human well-being. In response, the European Commission’s Mission Soil initiative aims to establish 100 Living Labs (LL) and Lighthouses by 2030 to promote innovative and sustainable soil management. Living Labs are defined by three core principles: co-creation, user-centered innovation, and real-world setting, enabling diverse stakeholders to jointly develop, test, and scale solutions that address soil-related challenges and soil health. Abstract:
This paper examines whether the current level of debt in the country, given the national government’s fiscal policy and plans, remains on a sustainable path. By end-2021, a year after the peak of the public health and economic crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the country’s debt-to-GDP ratio had already climbed to 60.5 percent, over 20 percentage points above pre-pandemic levels and slightly above the government’s indicative cap. Several empirical exercises were performed in this paper to investigate the country’s fiscal solvency, namely by (1) providing a historical decomposition
