Abstract:
In the present study, we observed seasonal variations in the density of decapod larvae as well as changes in density related to diurnal and tidal cycles. Among the decapod larvae collected, portunids and grapsids were the most abundant, especially during nocturnal ebb tides and near the surface. The same results were obtained in late winter (September) and late summer (March). These results demonstrated a flow of decapod larvae from Guanabara Bay to adjacent coastal waters. Luciferid (Lucifer faxoni) was the only group with high densities during flood tides and we suggest this is an evidence o

AbstractAlthough there has recently been significant work published on the relationship between twentieth-century French (anti-)philosopher Georges Bataille's theories of religion and violence, and the sound and politics of black metal, little has been done to address Bataille's and black metal's shared concern with the problem of ‘authenticity’. Their concern, determined by their complicity with ‘evil’, is centred on a critique of modernity. I will read, with a specific focus on the second wave of Norwegian black metal, black metal's connivance with evil through Bataille's notion of authentic

In his conception about metaphors, Lucian Blaga introduces two concepts in order to place metaphor in a philosophical perspective: revelatory and plasticizing (manufactory) metaphors. They contribute to knowledge and to man’s being, perception of the world and apprehension of the world in different ways. The main difference becomes clearer by reference to the Blagian conception regarding the philosophy of man living in the horizon of mystery and revelation. At the same time, these two types of metaphors are discussed in connection to the two types of knowledge proposed by Lucian Blaga, lucifer

The population ecology of luciferids has been scarcely studied. This study examined the distribution and population parameters of Belzebub faxoni and Lucifer typus in the western Gulf of Mexico. Samples were collected using a Bongo net at 82 sampling stations during three periods (July, January, and October–November). Abundance data of species were subjected to a regression tree analysis to determine the main factors affecting their distribution. In addition, total length data of individuals were fitted to a logistic equation to estimate the size at first maturity. Food availability was the ke

On route, I examine another question – namely whether agents can, without having any relevant false beliefs, perform actions motivated by the badness of those actions. The main worry is the compatibility of action for the sake of the bad with the thesis of the Guise of the Good (roughly that actions undertaken with an intention to perform them are undertaken because they are, as the agents see things, good in some respects).
