Abstract:
Aim. To clarify the endoscopic mucosal change of the stomach caused by Lugol's iodine solution spray on screening esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD).Methods. Sixty-four consecutive patients who underwent EGD for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma screening were included in this study. The records for these patients included gastric mucosa findings before and after Lugol's iodine solution was sprayed. The endoscopic findings of the greater curvature of the gastric body were retrospectively analyzed based on the following findings: fold thickening, exudates, ulcers, and hemorrhage.Results. Mucosal

Background: It is often challenging to distinguish between dysplastic and normal mucosa during surgery. Use of staining agents that will identify abnormal mucosa may improve results. Because Lugol's iodine is readily available, simple to use, and cost-effective, it was chosen as the preferred staining agent. To determine the effectiveness of Lugol’s iodine application in achieving R0 resection in early-stage oral cavity malignancy and thereby leading to better outcomes after treatment. Abstract:
Background and Aim: Balantidium coli is a protozoan that can infect humans and non-human primates, being the domestic pigs the animals most affected by this parasite. This study aimed to compare the performance of five coprological methods for diagnosis of Balantidium coli cysts in fecal samples from pigs. Materials and Methods: From September to December 2019, 558 fecal samples were collected from the rectum of backyard pigs in the Bucaramanga metropolitan area, Colombia. The average age of the sampled animals was 3-4 months. Fecal samples collected were tested using the following coprologica

6065 Background: Oral cavity and oropharynx cancer are increasing worldwide but survival has not significantly improved over the last thirty years. Presence of dysplasia or carcinoma in-situ at surgical margins following resection of squamous carcinoma (SCC) of the head and neck is associated with increased local recurrence and reduced survival. While carcinoma can usually be distinguished from normal mucosa, dysplasia is less readily distinguished at operation. Abstract:
Objective. To evaluate the use of flexible esophagoscopy and chromoendoscopy with Lugol’s solution in the detection of early esophageal carcinomas (second primary carcinomas) in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (HNSCC).Methods. All patients with newly diagnosed HNSCC underwent office-based Lugol's chromoendoscopy. After flexible esophagoscopy with white light, 3.0% Lugol's iodine solution was sprayed over the entire esophageal mucosa. Areas with less-intense staining (LVLs) were evaluated and biopsies taken.Results. 132 patients with HNSCC were enrolled in this study.

Abstract:
Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy is the most important test used to diagnose esophageal disease. Proper insertion of the endoscope is essential for accurate examination of the esophagus. However, due to coughing or the gag reflex, esophageal examinations can be difficult. Further, when a central ridge is present in the middle of the pyriform sinus, careful approach is necessary. Chromoendoscopy of the esophagus includes acetic acid chromoendoscopy for Barrett’s esophagus and lugol’s iodine chromoendoscopy for squamous cell carcinoma. In recent times, electronic chromoendoscopy is widely used.
