Abstract:
From its establishment in 1892 until the 1920s the largest Finnish ethnic church in the United States, the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, better known as the Suomi Synod, was among the staunchest defenders of Finnish language and culture. Tightening immigration laws and increasing demands for national unity in the 1920s led many immigrant inst

One of them is a new translation of The Emigration of the Saxon Lutherans in the Year 1838 and Their Settlement in Perry County, Missouri , written in German by an LCMS pastor, Johannes Friedrich Koestering, twenty-five years after its immigrant forebears a

Abstract:
Nothing has influenced and affected the Lutheran Church in the U.S.A. in the past century more than the doctrine of the Church and its Ministry. When the first Norwegian immigrants entered the U.S. in the middle of the 19th century, there were not enough Lutheran pastors to minister to the spiritual needs of the people. Looking specifically at the changes in the region between 1925 and 1988–1990, the analysis shows that mainline, Black, and conservative Protestant groups moved congregations to
